• ASP.NET MVC3 Custom Membership Provider - The membership provider name specified is invalid.

  I'm implementing a custom membership provider, and everything seems to go swimmingly until I create a MembershipUser object. At that point, I receive the error: The membership provider name specified is invalid. Parameter name: providerName In web.config the membership key is <membership defaultProvider="MembersProvider"> <providers> <clear/> <add name="MembersProvider" type="Members.Providers.MembersProvider" connectionStringName="ApplicationServices" enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="true" requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false" requiresUniqueEmail="false" maxInvalidPasswordAttempts="5" minRequiredPasswordLength="6" minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="0" passwordAttemptWindow="10" applicationName="DeviceDatabase" /> </providers> </membership> When creating the MembershipUser object from my custom User class: public static MembershipUser ToMembershipUser(User user) { MembershipUser member = new MembershipUser ("MembersProvider" , user.Name , user.Id , user.EmailAddress , user.PasswordQuestion , user.Comment , user.IsApproved , user.IsLockedOut , user.DateCreated , user.LastLoginDate ?? My feeling is that the new MembershipUser(...) providerName parameter is supposed to match what's set in web.config, but, since they match already, I'm at a loss as to how to proceed. Is there a convenient way to get the name of the active membership provider in code? I'm starting to think that using the built-in membership system is overkill and more trouble than it's worth. Edit Not sure if it's relevant, but the custom membership provider class is in a class library, not the main WAP project.   Hi. We just upgraded to visual studio 2010 RC1 and all of a sudden our controls inside tabcontainer disappeared from the designer file. Actually, it all seemed good in the beginning, the project compiled nicely, but as soon as we did any change in the markup of a page and build the code for the controls inside the tabcontainer disappeared and we got errormessages like so "Error 3 The name 'ddlPeriodicityStartInMonth' does not exist in the current context " Does anyone know if any changes are made to tabcontainer to visual studio 2010 or if this just is a bug? • Adding UIView animation mysteriously changes starting frame

  I'm working on an app that shows a thumbnail of a photo taken by the user. In order to show a seemless transition from the full-screen image shown in the UIImagePickerController to the thumbnail, I set the frame on my copy of the image to [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds] and then change the frame to match the frame of an invisible button. (The button allows users to re-take their photo by tapping the thumbnail image.) The trouble is that the starting x-origin of my UIImageView (imageView) is mysteriously starting nearly offscreen to the left: As you can see from the alert, the imageView purports to be located at (0,0), yet it's displaying at something like (-255,0). Update — Other weirdness worth mentioning in case it's relevant: It turns out the offset changes depending on the orientation of the camera when the photo was taken. If I take the picture with the phone upside-down, for instance, then the image gets offset vertically as well as horizontally. The picker seems to be filling the image's imageOrientation incorrectly: I have to hold the phone sideways, Home button on the left, to get an image with UIImageOrientationUp. At one point I experimented with setting imageView.clipsToBounds = YES;, which revealed that my image view's frame is in fact correct. Rather, it's the UIImage's placement within the UIImageView that gets offset. Fwiw, the image view's contentMode is the default, UIViewContentModeScaleToFill.

• Using OpenID as the only authentication method

  I have read the other questions and they mostly talk about the security of doing so. That's not entirely my concern, mostly because the website is question is a browser-based game. However, the larger issue is the user - not every user is literate enough to understand OpenID. Sure RPX makes this pretty easy, which is what I'll use, but what if the user does not have an account at Google or Facebook or whatever, or does not trust the system to log in with an existing account? They'd have to get an account at another provide - I'm sure most will know how to do it, let alone be bothered to do it. There is also the problem of how to manage it in the application. A user might want to use multiple identities with a single account, so it's not as simple as username + password to deal with. How do I store the OpenID identities of a user in the database? Using OpenID gives me a benefit too: RPX can provide extensive profile information, so I can just prefill the profile form and ask the user to edit as required. (security concerns over say, logging in with their Google account for example) How do I store the identifier in the database? (I'm not sure if the tables above are right) What measures do I need to take in order to prevent someone from logging in as another user and happily doing anything with their account? (as I understand RPX sends the identifier via HTTP, so what anyone would have to do is to just somehow grab it then enter it in the "OpenID" field) What else do I need to be aware of when using OpenID?

Given a generic type parameter, how can I call a static method on the generic class? The static method has to be available, given the constraint.

  After running chkdsk C: /F /R and finding out that my hard disk has 24 KB in bad sectors (log is posted below), I decided to run Windows 7's System File Checker utility (sfc /scannow). SFC showed the ff. message after I ran it: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log." Since the CBS.log file is too large, I ran findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" (as per Microsoft's KB 928228 article) to only get the log text pertaining to the corrupt files. (log is also posted below) How do I troubleshoot and repair the corrupted files mentioned by sfc /scannow? • How to add XML elements into the toolbox in Visual Studio 2010 RC

  I'm trying to edit an XML schema in Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate RC, but when I go to the toolbox (with the schema open and focused) there's absolutely nothing in the Toolbox view, even when every tutorial out there that I've read tells me that there should be. I've tried using the context menu option for resetting the Toolbox to no effect. Is there something I'm missing ? Something I need to install to get this feature of Visual Studio going ?

  Hi, I am trying to talk to a SOAP web service using SUDS and Python. After lots of messing around learning Python (yes I am new to this) and working out how to use SUDS I have come across a problem. The signature of the web method I am calling, according to suds, is (FWTCaseCreate){ ClassificationEventCode = None Priority = None Title = None Description = None Queue = None DueDate = None AssociatedObject = (FWTObjectBriefDetails){ ObjectID = (FWTObjectID){ ObjectType = None ObjectReference[] = <empty> } ObjectDescription = None Details = None Category = None } Form = (FWTCaseForm){ FormField[] = <empty> FormName = None FormKey = None } Internal = None InteractionID = None XCoord = None YCoord = None } So I use SUDS to create the classes that I want and send it to the method. However I get an error. So I turned logging on and I can see that the XML that is being sent is not correct which is causing a deserialize error.   The standard HTTP Authentication for SOAP passed the password etc in cleartext,and I'm looking for an alternative, possibly a key based mechanism to authenticate web services in lieu of the password. OAuth is gaining a lot of popularity; would it be appropriate, and how would I implement it? Or perhaps there are other methods I should use. The project itself is relatively simple, with just a one or two methods to be exposed, but security is of the utmost importance.
