  • How to calculate Content-Length for a file download within Kohana PHP?

    I'm trying to send a file from within a Kohana model to the browser, but as soon as I add a Content-Length header, the file doesn't start downloading right away. Now the problem seems to be that Kohana is already outputting buffers. An ob_clean at the begin of the script doesn't help this though. Also adding ob_get_length() to the Content-Length isn't helping since this just returns 0. The getFileSize() function returns the right number: if I run the script outside of Kohana, it works. I read that exit() still calls all destructors and it might be that something is outputted by Kohana afterwards, but I can't find out what exactly. Hope someone can help me out here...   • Does a native php (5+) function exist that does the following in 1 line?

    function array_value_from_key($array,$key) { return !empty($array[$key]) ? $array[$key] : null; } The reason I ask is because I have a class function that returns an array. Instead of having to do $myArray = myClass::giveMeArray(); $myValue = $myArray[$myKey]; I'd like to do something along the lines of $myValue = array_value_from_key(myClass::giveMeArray(),$myKey); When an object is returned, you can chain the object such as $myValue = myClass::giveMeObject()->aValue; Voila, nice and clean.. not being able to find what seems to be a simple and trivial function is driving me crazy... PS.. one more example of how I'd like to use such a function if(arrayKeyVal(aClass::giveMeArray(),$myKey)) { do_something(); }

    I have a 200kb file, what I use in multiple pages, but on each page I need only 1-2 lines of that file so how I can read only these lines what I need if I know the line number? Check to see if its domain1 or domain2 and the value that follows "variable-" So it should create a multi-dimensional array, which would have 2 items: domain + value. Whats the best way of doing that?

  • PHP, MySQL - would results-array shuffle be quicker than "select... order by rand()"?

    I've been reading a lot about the disadvantages of using "order by rand" so I don't need update on that. I was thinking, since I only need a limited amount of rows retrieved from the db to be randomized, maybe I should do: $r = $db->query("select * from table limit 500"); for($i;$i<500;$i++) $arr[$i]=mysqli_fetch_assoc($r); shuffle($arr); (i know this only randomizes the 500 first rows, be it). would that be faster than $r = $db->("select * from table order by rand() limit 500"); let me just mention, say the db tables were packed with more than...10,000 rows. why don't you do it yourself?!? - well, i have, but i'm looking for your experienced opinion. thanks!

    I am getting this error when I pass an invalid SQL string... I spent the last hour trying to find the problem assuming - It's not my SQL it must be the db handle... ANyway, I've now figured out that it was bad SQL... What I want to do is test the result of the mysql_query() for a valid resultset. I am simply using empty($result)... Is this the most effective test? Is there a more widely accepted method of testing a resultset for a valid result?

    I need to produce a string for use in an query e.g. SELECT whatever from Keywords.word IN (here); At the moment I have string which could be $search = "one word or four"; or $search = "one"; or $search = "one one"; I need to validate this into some acceptable for my query. I want a unique list of words, separated with a comma up to a maximum of three. This is what I have so far. $array = explode(" ",$search); $unique = array_unique ($array); I'm sure there must be a quicker way than evaluating each of the items for blank and selecting the first three.

    I am trying to test if the uploaded file is the image type I want. If it isn't a gif,jpeg, png, it should echo "Problem". But when I execute this code, it always says there's a problem. What's wrong with my if statement? $uploadfile_type=$_FILES['userfile']['type']; if ( ($uploadfile_type !='image/gif') || ($uploadfile_type !='image/jpeg') || ($uploadfile_type !='image/png')) { echo 'Problem: file is not a gif or jpeg or png!'; exit; } This code works when I am only checking one type of image.   • How should I make up for the lack of static initializers in PHP?

    I'm thinking about putting every class into a separate file and doing the static initialization outside of the class definition. The problem with this is the fact that the initialization will happen before the said class is actually needed (it will happen when the file which contains the class is included for the first time). It's a problem, because it may happen that the class won't be used at all, hence the initialization is unnecessary. And I think the practice of including the used files not in the beginning of your code is simply a dirty technique. If anybody has a viable solution to this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

  • In PHP can I check a boolean on a function call?

    I have a function which checks the passed value and returns false or true, if false I want it to add something to an array. The code I've written is below. if(!check_input($_POST['username'])){ $errors[] = "Username"; } Right now it adds to my array anyway, regardless of what is entered in the form. Is the way I've written that the correct way to check if the return from check_input() is false? I've checked the function's logic by altering the returns to echoes and it's returning the correct value, I'm just not sure if I'm checking it wrong. I'd previously attempted to write it as $X=check_input etc, and then if(check_value == false) but that doesn't seem to give me the desired result either. Hmmm a quick pointer please!

  • Can I prevent IMAP from grabbing files over X mb using PHP?

    I'm building a little script that will connect to an IMAP account and grab the content of the email and also the attachments. It works well for the most part, but when a really large file comes in, it causes the script to time out. Is there any way that I can check the file size before trying to grab it? I think that would be the simplest solution. Otherwise, I may have to upgrade to a server that has more memory.
