  I've created a Spring Roo project. Everything looks fine. Now I want to add a form with a text input and a button to my index.jspx. This form will change a static field currentUser in my ToDo class.   I ran into troubles with MySQL on my CentOS. I had some problems and backed up my database and removed mysql with all dependencies. After that I ran reinstalled: yum groupinstall "MySQL Database" Installed without errors. Running the mysql daemon: service mysqld start Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon. • how to make war file take up less memory

  I need help on how to decrease the memory usage of my web app. so I can fit more into my webserver. so I'm building a java web app with JSF 2.0 developing in eclipse helios and running on an Apache tomcat Server. And I have a dedicated virtual server with a tomcat aswell where I deploy these war files. the webApp is about 35MB in size ( it has a lot of jars and such) but when I deploy it to my tomcat webserver, I can see it takes about 300MB of RAM, is this normal? my dedicated server only has 2GB of ram from which normally have 1 to use. so I as soon as I deploy 3 apps I get an OOM error, I've gotten permgen OOM and a out of swamp Memory error; to fix this I upped my MaxPermGen to about a gig and resytarted the server to get back some swamp space. so I tried deploying smaller older apps ( about 15MB) and they take up waay less memory. If I have 1 GB of ram I want to be able to fit more apps into my webserver without getting any OOM Errors. now I found this stack overflow Question, Can that be applied to my case? and if so, which are the common folders in the tomcat server? anyone done this before or have a different more effective, not so complicated approach? Any ideas, and or commets are more than appreciated. Thanks! Myy

• Reading same file from multiple threads in C#

  Hi. I was googling for some advise about this and I found some links. The most obvious was this one but in the end what im wondering is how well my code is implemented. I have basically two classes. One is the Converter and the other is ConverterThread I create an instance of this Converter class that has a property ThreadNumber that tells me how many threads should be run at the same time (this is read from user) since this application will be used on multi-cpu systems (physically, like 8 cpu) so it is suppossed that this will speed up the import The Converter instance reads a file that can range from 100mb to 800mb and each line of this file is a tab-delimitted value record that is imported to another destination like a database. The ConverterThread class simply runs inside the thread (new Thread(ConverterThread.StartThread)) and has event notification so when its work is done it can notify the Converter class and then I can sum up the progress for all these threads and notify the user (in the GUI for example) about how many of these records have been imported and how many bytes have been read. It seems, however that I'm having some trouble because I get random errors about the file not being able to be read or that the sum of the progress (percentage) went above 100% which is not possible and I think that happens because threads are not being well managed and probably the information returned by the event is malformed (since it "travels" from one thread to another) Do you have any advise on better practices of implementation of threads so I can accomplish this? • Unit test project doesn't recognize the classes it was generated from

  I have a fairly simple file-system website consisting of one aspx page and several classes in separate .cs files. Everything is on my own HD. The web app itself builds and runs fine. Out of curiosity I decided to try out Visual Studio's nifty, easy-to-use unit test feature. So I opened each class file and clicked Create Unit Tests. VS generated a test project containing a set of test classes and some other files. Easy! But when I try to build or run the test project it throws a series of build errors, one for every class: The type or namespace name 'class-name' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?). Somebody asked if my test project has a reference to the original project. Well no, because the original project is a file-system website. It has no bin folder and no DLL, so there's nothing to reference as far as I can tell. I would think that since VS generated these unit tests it would generate whatever references it needs, but apparently not. Is generating unit tests for file-system web apps an undocumented no-no, or is there a magic trick to getting it to work?

• LinqToSql Select to a class then do more queries

  I have a LINQ query running with multiple joins and I want to pass it around as an IQueryable<T> and apply additional filters in other methods. The problem is that I can't work out how to pass around a var data type and keep it strongly typed, and if I try to put it in my own class (EG: .Select((a,b) => new MyClass(a,b))) I get errors when I try to add later Where clauses because my class has no translations into SQL. Is there any way I can do one of the following: Make my class map to SQL? Make the var data-type implement an interface (So I can pass it round as though it's that)? Something I haven't though of that'll solve my issue? • steps to fix a project that won't compile

  Hi Pulling my hair out in trying to get a simple window based project to compile. I am running both 3.2.2 and 3.2.3 versions of Xcode. The latter is set up in a separate folder. Originally I used the latter to create and compile my project against the new 4.0 sdk. It compiled fine. Then I made the mistake of deleting some sdks I thought I no longer needed. Ever since I can no longer compile. Right now I get a dozen or so errors similar to the following "_OBJC_CLASS_$_CATransition", referenced from: objc-class-ref-to-CATransition in ViewTransitionsAppDelegate.o My active executable is the iphone simulator 4 and Base SDK is iPhone device 3.0. I tried reinstalling the xcode3.2.3 installer, no difference. I'm totally stymied, as my project WAS working and compiling fine, both to the simulator and external device. Are there any best practices or recommended steps in fixing or rebuilding a project when it won't compile? Any help welcome!

• Can I version dotfiles within a project without merging their history into the main line?

  I'm sure this title is fairly obscure. I'm wondering if there is some way in git to tell it that you want a certain file to use different versions of a file when moving between branches, but to overall be .gitignored from the repository. Here's my scenario: I've got a Flash Builder project (for a Flex app) that I control with git. Flex apps in Flash Builder projects create three files: .actionScriptProperties, .flexProperties, and .project. These files contain lots of local file system references (source folders, output folders, etc.), so naturally we .gitignore them from our repo. Today, I wanted to use a new library in my project, so I made a separate git branch called lib, removed the old version of the library and put in the new one. Unfortunately, this Flex library information gets stored in one of those three dot files (not sure which offhand). So when I had to switch back to the first branch (master) earlier, I was getting compile errors because master was now linked to the new library (which basically negated why I made lib in the first place). So I'm wondering if there's any way for me to continue to .gitignore these files (so my other developers don't get them), but tell git that I want it to use some kind of local "branch version" so I can locally use different versions of the files for different branches.

  Few questions: I'm using CI and JQuery AJAX. In my code below, I assemble dataString, which by default, is appended to the URL as a query string. I've changed the AJAX "type" to POST, so my question is - how do I access dataString in my CI app? It would seem I still have to use $name=$this->input->post('name') Which to me, makes setting dataString redundant? -- I've tried searching but can't really find anything concrete. Would it be possible to still make use of CIs validation library and AJAX? if($this->form_validation->run() == FALSE) { // what can i return so that my CI app shows errors? } Normally you would reload the contact form or redirect the user. In an ideal world I would like the error messages to be shown to the user.   (programming Android in Eclipse) I am trying to set up a delay in changing the text in a button. I am getting errors only after there is a delay and the text needs to be changed. • Check if file is locked or catch error for trying to open

  I'm trying to handle the problem where a user can try to open, with an OpenFileDialog, a file that is open by Excel. Using the simple FileInfo.OpenRead(), it chucks an IOException, "The process cannot access the file 'cakes.xls' because it is being used by another process." This would be fine to display to the user except that the user will actually get "Debugging resource strings are unavailable" nonsense. It seems not possible to open a file that is open by another process, since using FileInfo.Open(FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.ReadWrite) chucks a SecurityException, "File operation not permitted. Access to path 'C:\whatever\cakes.xls' is denied.", for any file. Rather unhelpful. So it's down to either finding some way of checking if the file is locked, or trying to catch the IOException. I don't want to catch all IOExceptions and assume they're all locked file errors, so I need some sort of way of classifying this type of exception as this error... but the "Debugging resource strings" nonsense along with the fact that that message itself is probably localized makes it tricky. I'm partial trust, so I can't use Marshal.GetHRForException. So: Is there any sensible way of either check if a file is locked, or at least determining if this problem occurred without just catching all IOExceptions?

  How can I retrie infromation from delete rows. I delete some rows from table in dataset, then I use method GetChanges(DataRowState.Deleted) to get deleted rows. I try delete rows in original table on server side, but it finished with this errors. System.Data.DeletedRowInaccessibleException: Deleted row information cannot be accessed through the row. • Syntax error results in blank page

  I am new to wicket and trying to get some things working. One thing that annoys me a lot is that I get a blank (0 chars of text) page whenever there is a syntax error on a page. Striped down example: Test.html header stuff: doctype ... html ... head ... body ... <span wicket:id="msgTest" id="message">MSG</span> footer stuff: /body ... /html Test.java public class Test extends WebPage { public Test() { add(new Label("msgTest", "Hello, World!")); } } This will output the page as expected. Now, lets introduce an error: header stuff: doctype ... html ... head ... body ... <span wicket:id="msgTest2" id="message">MSG</span> footer stuff: /body ... /html I changed the label-id to something different then what the source-file expects. If I run this code I get the already mentioned blank page. However, for every request to a page with such a syntax error I get an error report in the log-file of around 1000+ lines. This error-report is basically just wicket-generated html of a page which describes the error. This makes me wonder why wicket isn't displaying the error-stuff instead of the blank page. I'm not very experienced with wicket but to me it somehow looks like wicket is having trouble rendering its own error-page code. It would be nice to know how one goes about finding syntax-errors with wicket. Reading through a 1000+ line error-report for a small error like a misplaced character seems a bit tedious.   I've built a custom jQuery rotator using just basic animation to rotate the 3 Divs (images). I've built the function and then reinitiate the function using it as a call back. • too much recursion in javascript with jquery mouseover

  I am a JS novice. Using some code I found here to help me with mouseover scale/rotate images but now when I try to apply it to more than one object I'm getting errors saying "too much recursion". Before the function didn't take any arguments, it just was on s_1 and it worked fine. • Installing Ruby via rbenv fails

  Problem: I installed ruby, but it is not recognized correctly. I'm following the deploying to VPS: https://github.com/railscasts/335-deploying-to-a-vps I am setting my server on ubuntu 12.04 LTS to deploy my rails app. I'm following the railscast on deploying to a VPS, and trying to install ruby through rbenv. It seemed everything was installed correctly, but when I tried to check the ruby version, it gave me errors. • CGContextDrawImage returning bad access

  Hello guys, I've been trying to blend two UIImage for about 2 days now and I've been getting some BAD_ACCESS errors. First of all, I have two images that have the same orientation, basically I'm using the CoreGraphics to do the blending. One curious detail, everytime I modify the code, the first time I compile and run it on device, I get to do everything I want without any sort of trouble. Once I restart the application, I get error and the program shuts down. Can anyone give me a light? I tried accessing the baseImage sizes dynamically, but it gives me bad access too. Here's a snippet of how I'm doing the blending. • C++ Exception Handling

  So I was writing some code and I noticed that apart from syntactical, type, and other compile-time errors, C++ does not throw any other exceptions. So I decided to test this out with a very trivial program: #include<iostream> int main() { std::count<<5/0<<std::endl; return 1 } When I compiled it using g++, g++ gave me a warning saying I was dividing by 0. But it still compiled the code. Then when I ran it, it printed some really large arbitrary number. When I want to know is, how does C++ deal with exceptions? Integer division by 0 should be a very trivial example of when an exception should be thrown and the program should terminate. Do I have to essentially enclose my entire program in a huge try block and then catch certain exceptions? I know in Python when an exception is thrown, the program will immediately terminate and print out the error. What does C++ do? Are there even runtime exceptions which stop execution and kill the program?

• How to create TestContext for Spring Test?

  Newcomer to Spring here, so pardon me if this is a stupid question. I have a relatively small Java library that implements a few dozen beans (no database or GUI). I have created a Spring Bean configuration file that other Java projects use to inject my beans into their stuff. I am now for the first time trying to use Spring Test to inject some of these beans into my junit test classes (rather than simply instantiating them). I am doing this partly to learn Spring Test and partly to force the tests to use the same bean configuration file I provide for others. In the Spring documentation is says I need to create an application context using the "TestContext" class that comes with Spring. I believe this should be done in a spring XML file that I reference via the @ContextConfiguration annotation on my test class. @ContextConfiguration({"/test-applicationContext.xml"}) However, there is no hint as to what to put in the file! When I go to run my tests from within Eclipse it errors out saying "failed to load Application Context"....of course.

• I want to request JSON inside of a WordPress page.

  Hello Everyone, For the last few hours I've been trying to set up this http://code.google.com/apis/books/docs/dynamic-links.html on a WordPress blog. Google's API sends back a JSON response (which is supposed to be "put" into _GBSBookInfo variable). However, that variable never is assigned so my javascript callback function explodes saying the variable doesn't exist. So far, all of my javascript is in the WordPress header. I tried this outside of WordPress and it works fine. • Creating a cocoa Application without nib files/fully pragmatic

  Yes, I know this goes against the whole MVC principle! However, I'm just trying to whip up a pretty trivial application - and I've pretty much implemented it pragmatically. However, I have a problem... I create an Empty Project, copy all the frameworks over and set the build settings - and I get errors about the executable.. or lack of executable. The build settings all appear fine, but it tells me there is no executable - it will build + run fine.. however it doesn't run. There is no error either - it just appears to run very fast and cleanly! Unless I try and run gdb which politely tells me I need to give it a file first.. Running… No executable file specified. Use the "file" or "exec-file" command. So I created a Cocoa Application, removed all the stuff I didn't need (i.e the MainMenu.xib file..) and now I can compile my code perfectly.. however it dies with complaining that its "Unable to load nib file: MainMenu, exiting" I have gone through the Project Symbols and see that the code actually relies upon the nib file heavily, even if you don't touch it code-wise. (MVC again I guess..) So my question is - is there a simple way to compile just what you code, no added nib files, just the code you write and the frameworks you add? I assume it would be a blank project but my experience tells me otherwise?!

  In C++ program, I am trying to #import TLB of .NET out of proc server. I am not really interested in the having the base object .NET object methods like GetType(), Equals(), etc. But GetType() seems to be causing problems. Some google research indicates I could #import MSCORLIB.TLB (or put it in path), but I can't get that to compile either. Any tips?

• Expression Blend doesn't recognize command objects declared in code behind file

  I have a WPF UserControl. The code behind file declares some RoutedUICommand objects which are referenced in the XAML. The application builds and runs just fine. However Expression Blend 3 cannot load the XAML in the designer and gives errors like this one: The member "ResetCameraCommand" is not recognized or accessible. The class and the member are both public. Building and rebuilding the project in Blend and restarting Blend hasn't helped. Any ideas what the problem is?
