• ASP.NET MVC + MySql Membership Provider, user cannot login

  Hello, I've been playing around with using MySql as the membership provider for asp.net mvc forms authentication. I've got things configured correctly as far as i can tell, and i can create users via both the register action and asp.net web config site. however, when i try to login with one of the users, it does not work. it returns an error as if i had entered a wrong password, or if the account doesn't exist. i have verified in the database that the account does exist. UPDATE So after debugging the login process in the code of the membership provider itself, i discovered that there is a bug in the provider. There is a discrepancy between the password hash that is stored in the database, and the has that is generated based on the inputted password. As a workaround for my issue, i changed the password format to 'encrpyted' and added a machine key to my web.config. I am still interested in figuring out the issue with the hashed format in the provider, and will spend some more time debugging it, and if i can figure out the problem, i will put together a patch and submit it.

• Is POSTing a Dictionary to an .NET MVC action possible?

  I have a form which contains a series of fields like: <input type="text" name="User[123]" value="Alice" /> <input type="text" name="User[456]" value="Bob" /> ... Where the index of the User array (123 and 456) are ID's associated with the value. I'm trying to update these values in the controller. My thinking is that a Dictionary that maps ID to name would work, but creating the action like: public void Save(Dictionary<string, string> user) { // ... } results in the user parameter being null. So, is passing a Dictionary possible? or, is there another method to achieve this?

  I'm dealing with a server running SQL Server 2000 SP1, and the logical filenames for one of the databases appear to contain trailing spaces. That is, this query: select replace(name, ' ', 'X') from sysfiles Returns the expected names plus a long string of Xs. How can I deal with this? I've tried running ALTER DATABASE... MODIFY FILE using the name (with and without spaces) and get an error message telling me the file does not exist.

  Hello everyone. I have a model Fix with a relationship HABTM Device model. Device model has a belongsTo to Device_type model, like this, for only getting the device type name: var $belongsTo = array('Device_type'=>array('fields'=>'name')); So, I need every Fix, its devices and its Device_types. When I make a Fix->find('all', array('recursive' => 2)) I expect to get every Device related to Fix (this works ok) and ALSO for every device, its Device_type.name (which is not working). This is what I get instead for every Device in the result (an empty array): ["Device_type"]=> array(0) { } Besides this, when I make this query for testing: Fix->Device->find('all'), it returns the current Device_type.names for every device related to fixes, which means models are related propertly. The database contains a list of people and the two choices of food they wish to have at a party (for example). I want to create some kind of Python web-service that will output a JSON object. An example of output should be like: { "guestlist": [ {"id":1,"name":"Bob","choice1":"chicken","choice2":"pasta"},{"id":2,"name":"Alice","choice1":"pasta","choice2":"chicken"} ], "partyname": "My awesome party", "day": "1", "month": "June", "2010": "null" } Basically every guest is stored into a dictionary 'guestlist' along with their choices of food. At the end of the JSON object is just some additional information that only needs to be mentioned once. The question that I have is regarding the method that I need to utilize to grab the data from my database, and create the JSON object. Do I need to use a standard Model/View structure of Django or can I get away with something that is much simpler since what I need to do is really simple?

  Hello I'm new to JPA and using persistence in Java anyway and I have two questions I can't quite work out: I have generated tags as: @JoinColumn(name = "UserName", referencedColumnName = "UserName") @ManyToOne(optional = false) private User userName; @JoinColumn(name = "DatasetNo", referencedColumnName = "DatasetNo") @ManyToOne(optional = false) private Dataset datasetNo; But in one of the constructors for the class, no reference is made to columns UserName or DatasetNo whereas all other columns in the class are referenced in the constructor. Can anyone tell me why this is? Both columns UserName and DatasetNo are 'foreign keys' on the entity Visualisation which corresponds to a database table of the same name. I can't quite work out the ORM. And when using entity classes, or POJO, is it better to have class variables like: private User userName; Where an instance of a class is specified or simply the key of that class instance like: private String userName; Thanks Mr Morgan.

The POJO lives in a different project and is often used without a persistence layer, my project wants to persist it in a database and do so without the overhead of mapping from a POJO to an entity and back. I understand that JPA entities are POJOs, but in order to use it I would have to include a library that implements javax.persistence and the other projects using the same base object have no use for a persistence layer. Is this possible? Is this a good idea?

I've got several webservers running on localhost on different ports within the Windows install. I cannot for the life of me get port forwarding to work so I can access those webservers from OSX. The DNS settings are setup to register the connections's addresses on the DNS server. nslookup shows both IP addresses for the server name. How is name resolution done in this case, i.e. which IP address does the DNS server return for a host lookup? Or does it return both, and the client selects one of the addresses?
