• Controlling Windows Media Player through PHP / batch files

  I'm currently writing a tiny webapp for my HTPC (actually, a PC serving as both a media player and web- / fileserver) that will allow me to remotely control the playing of audio, without having to turn on my TV just to switch songs. I'm using Windows Media Player as my audio player of choice, and I thought I could control it through PHP's COM Class. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find any documentation or examples on controlling WMP through this interface. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? A second (and much less preferable) solution would be to use PHP's exec() call to start batch files that, in turn, control WMP.

• How to detect crashing tabed webbrowser and handle it?

  I have a desktop application (forms) with a tab control, I assign a tab and a new custom webrowser control. I open up about 10 of these tabs. Each one visits about 100 - 500 different pages. The trouble is that if 1 webbrowser control has a problem it shuts down the entire program. I want to be able to close the offending webbrowser control and open a new one in it's place. Is there any event that I need to subscribe to catch a crashing or unresponsive webbrowser control ? • How does Google implement Microsoft Exchange access?

  I know with Android 2.x there is the ability to tap into Microsoft Exchange, for at least email, if not calendar and contacts. I would like to see how this was accomplished. Particularly because Microsoft Exchange exposes SOAP web services, and I understand there is no native Android support for SOAP. Since this is open source, shouldn't I be able to find something in the Android source? If so, can you point me in the right direction of where to find it in the ~4Gig (!) source? I want to develop an application that accesses Exchange contacts and calendars, but don't want to reinvent that piece. Any other guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

  I'm looking for a good jQuery or CSS, or combo, library to enance my left side menu in an an intranet application. I don't like the 'hover only' expand/collapse style of the ASP.NET Menu control on its own, and I don't like the 'icon-click only' expand/collapse style of the TreeView control on its own. I plan on trying the CSS Control Adapters, to render the menu with some self-respect, i.e. as nested <ul> or <ol> elements instead of the usual orgy of tables. Beyond that, I need something to give a bit of style and menulike behaviour to these nested lists, and I would prefer a jQuery plugin for this. Which should I use?

  Hi all, I am curious about the security of PHP on an HTML webpage where PHP code is embedded (a webpage that would exist on the server as "webpage.php") or on a PHP script that may be referenced by an HTML page (that is, a PHP script that is not actually part of a webpage that exists on the server as "something.php" and is referenced by "webpage.html"). Getting to the point, let us say that if the source code of my PHP script is known by anyone it would be a very big problem. I know that when you view the source of a PHP page in a browser the PHP script is not shown, but what if the PHP server failed and the HTML still loaded (is this even possible), would a user be able to see the PHP script? To be more general, is there ANY possible way that a user could access the source of a PHP script from a web browser, and if so, how do I prevent it?

• How to retrieve path for a file embedded in Resources (Resource Manager)

  I am trying to retrieve file path for a html file that is embedded in resource (resx file) in VS2008 C# project. I want to give path of this file to native webbrowser control (PIEHtml) to be able to navigate (DTM_NAVIGATE) in my application. I know I can pass the string to this control using DTM_ADDTEXTW but since html text size is so big, I dont want to pass string to the control. I need to somehow extract the file path for this html file embedded inside resource manager. I tried using but this does not give the file path of html inside assembly: private ResourceManager resManager = new ResourceManager("AppName.FolderName.FileName", System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); this.lbl.Text = resManager.GetString("StringInResources"); and also read Retrieving Resources in Satellite Assemblies but it did not solve my problem.   I know that peripheral devices such as a hard driver, a floppy driver, etc are controlled by reading/writing certain control registers on their device controllers. I am wondering about the following questions: Is it true that when these peripheral devices are plugged onto the computer, the addresses(port numbers) of their control registers are thus determined by how they are attached to the address bus (i.e. the hard-wiring)? Who makes the scheme of the port number assignment? If I was given a naked computer(with no operating system and with many peripheral devices), how could I figure out the port number assignment so I can use them to control peripheral deveices.

• Avoiding Nested Blocks

  If there is a view controller that wants to execute a number of block based tasks one at a time, how can the control be given back to the view controller after a completion block has executed. Lets say ViewControllerOne wants to execute a number of tasks, each relying on the result of the previous one, how would this control be given back to the viewcontroller after each completion block has been executed? I started thinking about this and I was heading towards a deeply nested block pattern that will surely only cause confusion to whoever else reads or tests it. A task executes and the completion block returns the result or error which is needed by the next task, which has its own completion task, that the next task relies on and so forth. How can the control be managed in one place, the viewcontroller? Would the completion block just call the next function that handles the next task, using a pointer to the view controller?

• XAML : How to change background color only in Design mode?

  I have a control with white text foreground color and transparent background color. Later on this usercontrol will be added into a different control that carries the real background color. However during designing this, control due white foreground on white background in VS 2010, I can't obviously see anything. In there anyway to define a different color for just the design time?   I've seen in WPF where you can bind control values to properties of other controls. How is that binding accomplished in C++? For example, if I have a class called Car and a guage control called RPM, how do I tie the value of RPM to the member variable Car.RPM, so that when Car.RPM changes, it is automatically (as in without a specific update call coded by me) reflected by the RPM control? General answers or directions to pertinent resources would be fine also, as I'm just beginning to dabble in C++ and haven't had much Google luck with this particular question.

  I want to debug on the customer's machine (Windows Server 2003) to track a problem, and out product is based on .NET 2.0. I want to use DbgCLR.exe to debug a file AAA.dll, what I did is: install .NET 2.0 SDK on the customer's machine (to get the DbgCLR.exe) copy the symbol file AAA.pdb to the same directory with AAA.dll get the source file for AAA.dll the AAA.dll will be loaded by w3wp.exe, so in the DbgCLR Tools-Attach to Process, then I choose w3wp.exe File-Open-File open the source file and add a breakpoint in the function which will be callled but the breakpoint seems do no work because there is an warning icon on it and says : the breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document. On my computer (Windows XP) which has the debug version of whole source code, I did nearly the same thing as above but the different is: I attached aspnet_wp.exe to do the debug and it works What should I do to let it work on the customer's machine?

  I'm trying to hide all panels on a page, when a button click occurs. This is on a web content form, within a master page. The panels are within an Update Panel, and I tried foreach(Control c in updatePanel.Controls) { } and this didn't work either. I also tried : foreach(Control c in Page.Controls) { } and that didn't work either. Any idea what I'm missing here?

• MVC Serve audio files while preventing direct linking using HttpResponseBase

  I need to be able to serve audio files to an mvc app while preventing direct access. Ideally the page would render with a player control so the user can start/stop the audio linked to the database record (audio files are in a folder not the db). I have a controller action like this: Response.Clear(); Response.ContentType = "audio/wav"; Response.TransmitFile(audioFilename); Response.End(); return Response; and the view uses the RenderAction method <% Html.RenderAction("ServeAudioFile"); %> this works but it won't display inline on the existing view, it opens a new page with just the media control. Am I totally barking up the wrong tree or is there a way to embed the response in the existing view? works exactly as I would like but I can't control access to the file.

• Is it bad practice to assign a css class for the sole purpose of finding it with jQuery?

  I'm using ASP.NET, not the newest one with that clientIdMode stuff. So, the control ids are generated and funky. There are lots of ways of passing ids around, but lately I've been assigning a 'fake' css class to the control I'm interested in. Then in a js file I use jQuery to find the control. Is this bad practice? It seems a lot like the ajaxControlToolkit's behaviorId to me... Is the behaviorId bad practice as well?

• Should I be worried about sending Apk to client before getting paid?

  I am working on an Android app for a client. The app is practically finished, and next week I'll have a meeting with the client to present it. He'll test everything, and upon approving it he will make the payment and I'll give him the source code and publish it on Google Play. Today he called me asking for the Apk so that he can start testing it. I am worried that if we don't close the deal (for one reason or another) he might get someone to reverse engineer the Apk and get my source code/app anyway, even if obfuscated with ProGuard (I never tried, but according to this SO thread it's not that difficult to reverse engineer an Apk). My question: Am I being paranoid here and should just send the client the Apk (cause perhaps the ProGuard obfuscation is enough to make the source code useless) , or are my worries reasonable and I should stick to getting paid before delivering anything?

• Lining up the text in a tool tip, with the text in a combobox

  I see a lot of programs where if the text doesn't fit inside the bounds of the control, you can put your mouse over the control and the tooltip text will show you the full unclipped text, and also the tooltip text lines up completly with the text in the control. I'm trying to do that with a combobox in VB 2005 (.net version 2.0). In the tooltip draw event I've tried setting the tooltip location to the location of the AssociatedControl.DisplayRectangle, and the AssociatedControl.ClientRectangle. Each of these seem to put the tooltip text in the top left corner of the combobox, just slightly offset from the text in the combobox. Is there some type of padding I need to account for? or what's going on here?

• Visual-C++ Linker Error

  I have a class called MODEL in which public static int theMaxFrames resides. The class is defined in its own header file. theMaxFrames is accessed by a class within the MODEL class and by one function, void set_up(), which is also in the MODEL class. The Render.cpp source file contains a function which calls a function in the Direct3D.cpp source file which in turn calls the set_up() function through a MODEL object. This is the only connection between these two source files and theMaxFrames. • How can I use EF in windows forms to insert new data ?

I'm building win app with EF by adding edmx as data source then drag and drop the tables to get navigator and binding source .. when I press the add button in the navigator it allows me to enter new data but when I save the context I get NULL data for all fields except the auto increment field ( the ID field ).... What should I do to save many entries ...? DO I have to loop over all the entities in the binding source and add them to the context ?? Thanx in advance Update: I forgot to say that when i use data grid view it adds the items correctly but with "Details" it didn't ..

• An exception to the "only one implementation" rule ?

  While I was reading the accepted answer of this question, I had the following question: Typically, methods are defined in header files (.hpp or whatever), and implementation in source files (.cpp or whatever). One of the main reasons it is bad practice to ever include a "source file" (#include <source_file.cpp>) is that its methods implementation would then be duplicated, resulting in linking errors. When one writes: #ifndef BRITNEYSPEARS_HPP #define BRITNEYSPEARS_HPP class BritneySpears { public: BritneySpears() {}; // Here the constructor has implementation. }; #endif /* BRITNEYSPEARS_HPP */ He is giving the implementation of the constructor (here an "empty" implementation, but still). But why then including this header file multiple times (aka. on different source files) will not generate a "duplicate definition" error at link time ?
