  • HTC Android device mounted as USB drive is read-only unless I'm root

    When I connect my HTC Incredible S to my Ubuntu 10.10 system as a USB drive, the device seems to mount OK, but is read-only unless I access it as root. For example, if I run nautilus, I can't drag and drop files to the SD-card in the phone, but if I run sudo nautilus I can. I have USB debug support set on the phone (Applications > Development > USB debugging) and I have added a rule for the device in /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules on my Ubuntu system. Any suggestions as to how I can mount the drive so that I can copy content to the SD card without needing to sudo? Update Following advice from waltinator, I added the following line to my /etc/fstab: UUID=3537-3834 /media/usb1 vfat rw,user,noexec,nodev,nosuid,noauto However, the Android device is still being auto-mounted on /media/usb1 with uid and gid root.   • A font like RomanS in appearance but with support for more characters (Autocad)?

    In a Autocad 2010 installation, the standard font used is RomanS. That font is so limited on characters, so when I use "text" command I cannot add "³" on text of cubic meters measures (a "?" is displayed instead of the "³" character - see isolated text on figure below and Font characters Latin Supplement range). When I use a dimension command, like multileader, Autocad "corrects" that issue using another font that support that missing character, resulting on an awful mixture (see text on multileader below - on multileader text properties, we can see 3m{\fArial|b0|i0|c0|p34;³}). I can easily change that font with another, like Verdana, Times New Roman... that have more characters than RomanS font, but I would like to use an alternative font more like RomanS in appearance. Any help?

I'm on a debian "squeeze" configured to use a smarthost. vi /etc/exim4/conf.d/acl/30_exim4-config_check_rcpt Add right after "acl_check_rcpt:" deny message = Domain $domain is prohibited for outgoing mails domains = lsearch;/etc/exim4/restricted_domains Reload exim, but the mails to the restricted domains continue to go out I also tried to add the acl_not_smtp after reading this post but without success either. vi /etc/exim4/conf.d/main/02_exim4-config_options Add "acl_not_smtp = acl_check_not_smtp" vi /etc/exim4/conf.d/acl/30_exim4-config_check_rcpt And add at the top of the file acl_check_not_smtp: deny message = Domain $domain is prohibited for outgoing mails domains = lsearch;/etc/exim4/restricted_domains Can anybody point me what i'm doing wrong please?   • Unable to delete all partitions on flash drive using Windows 7 OS??

    Recently I purchased an ADATA C802 8GB flash drive. Since the drive was new I decided to run some of the HD Tune Pro (v4.50) performance tests on it, mostly just for the heck of it. To avoid accidently destroying data HD Tune refuses to write to a drive unless there are no partitions on the drive. If you do attempt to write to a drive with partitions, it posts the message "Writing is disabled. To enable writing please remove all partitions." As you would expect, the ADATA came formatted with a single primary FAT32 partition in the Master Boot Record. But a number of unexpected things happened when I attempted to delete that partition. The first thing I tried was to use the Windows 7 (64-bit) Disk Management tool (diskmgmt.msc) to delete the partition. It would not let me. The context menu choice to delete that volume was not available. Next I opened up a command prompt window with Admin authority and ran diskpart. Diskpart deleted the volume for me. However, when I attempted to run an HD Tune write test on the drive I still got the "Writing is disabled" message. Huh??? So I fired up a utility I have which allows viewing drives at the sector level and verified that the partition table in the Master Boot Record was empty. No partitions. Yet HD Tune still thought there were partitions on the drive? So why was I still getting the "Writing is disabled" message from HD Tune Pro? And why wouldn't the Windows 7 Disk Management tool let me change the partitions on this drive. After doing the above, I plugged the ADATA into my MacBook. I was then able to format it as either a GPT or MBR partitioned drive with no problems. I am not looking for suggestions on how to format this drive. I can do that. What I do not understand and was hoping I might get insight into is why this drive behaves so strangely under Windows 7? And BTW, what's up with HD Tune Pro? BTW, if I plug the drive I formatted on my MacBook back into my Windows 7 64-bit system I still run into road blocks with the Disk Management tool. For example, I cannot delete all the GPT partitions on the ADATA so I can convert it into an MBR drive. I following Microsoft's instructions, the instructions just do not work with this ADATA flash drive. Anyone know what's up with this? It makes no sense to me. Has something changed in Windows 7 (Vista)??

  • Cannot copy files from external USB HDD to computer

    Hello I have a HDD disk connected with a USB converter to my computer. It consists of two partitions, the first one is mounted automatically and I can grab all the files from it, but the second one I have to mount manually as a root in the command line, if I try to open it with nautilus it gives an error. The drive where the problem is is drive sdb1, sdb2 has the same settings but works fine. I am using Debian Wheezy. This is the fstab: /dev/sdb1 /media/usb0 auto defaults,gid=disk,umask=0777 0 0 /dev/sdb2 /media/usb1 auto defaults,gid=disk,umask=0777 0 0 And when I try to copy the files with this command (as root) cp -vr /media/usb0/* /home/user/Videos/ I get these types of errors: cp: reading `/media/usb0/.lang/file.ext': Permission denied cp: failed to extend `/home/user/Videos/.lang/file.ext': Permission denied How can I at least copy the files to my main HDD? I don't need to adjust them I only need to copy them!

    I'm trying to install Git on my Media Temple (dv) 4.0 server. I've followed these instructions: http://wiki.mediatemple.net/w/%28dv%29_4.0:Install_GIT It seems to have "installed", as there are a boat load of files in the following directory: /root/git-2012-06-06 However, when I perform any git command in the server: git: command not found My assumption is that something, somewhere isn't configured properly, but I have no idea where to start. Could anybody lend a hand / offer some pointers? (And if you hadn't guessed, I'm pretty new to all this, so please be kind!) Thanks very much Chris

  • Lighttpd not starting - no error

    I recently installed Lighttpd on Ubuntu Server 10.04 x86_64 and created several websites. What I do is include /etc/lighttpd/vhost.d/*.conf and put a configuration file for each website in that directory. The problem I have is when I "service lighttpd start" I get the message that the service started, there is no error message: root@178-33-104-210:~# service lighttpd start Syntax OK * Starting web server lighttpd [ OK ] But then if I take a look at the services listening, Lighttpd is nowhere to be seen: root@178-33-104-210:~# netstat -tap Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 localhost:mysql *:* LISTEN 829/mysqld tcp 0 0 *:ftp *:* LISTEN 737/vsftpd tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTEN 739/sshd tcp6 0 0 [::]:ssh [::]:* LISTEN 739/sshd So I'm looking at ways I could troubleshoot this. Edit: Sorry, I indicated I use CentOS but it's actually Ubuntu Server (I usually use CentOS but had to go with Ubuntu for that one).

  • Outlook rules not working together

    I have multiple Outlook (2010) rules and these 2 are having issues together: Rule 1: Apply this rule after the message arrives with blahname in the sender's address and move it to the BlahBox folder. Rule 2: Apply this rule after the message arrives from [email protected] move it to the NoReply folder. If I have rule 1 above rule 2, only rule 1 works (noreply emails stay in the Inbox folder). If I swap and have rule 2 above rule 1, only rule 2 works (blahname emails stay in the Inbox folder). What am I doing wrong; how can I fix this so it applies both rules on incoming email? I'm fairly certain the two rules should never intersect (blahname != domain.com). Also I do not have "this computer only" checked on any rules, I avoid client-only rules.

  • Ubuntu hangs after replugging the modem

    I am facing this issue on Ubuntu 12.04, which is for my Wimax modem with beceem chipset. If I replug the device Ubuntu goes in hang state. Its happens very often. If I plug the USB and restart it works most of the time. But it is very annoying to restart every time it hangs. The modem works smoothly in Windows 7. And it used to work OK in Ubuntu 11.10.     A simple question, but I have no concrete documentation to confirm my answer. When installing software with the make install command under a unix machine, the default path is going over to /usr/local/bin. I would like to update a package system-wide under /usr/bin. How (and where) do I change the command under make or make install to /usr/bin? Also - Can the package remain on /usr/local/bin but the systemwide usage of Python (the update being installed) be changed to /usr/local/bin from /usr/bin to avoid modifying the original installed version ?

    i need procmail to place incoming mail into specific folder depending on some set of rules. I know how i can accomplish this, but i need to write static set of rules in a specific file. What i really need is to configure procmail to use rules stored in mysql database. How i can do this? I've read a bit about that and one solution i found is to pipe message to a php/perl script and return a folder name to place message. But i have completely no i idea how to use php script as a rule and then use its return value.

I have a PHP file (which consumers a National Weather Service web service via SOAP, if it matters) that I need to run on a scheduled basis. I'm trying to set up a cron job in Webmin. I've never worked with webmin before; most of our hosts' cron control panels allow cron jobs to run PHP files like this with no issue. Is there some trick to getting webmin to read php as actual php?

  • CVS gives error files fail to update, but they are updated on the server

    We are using CVSNT on machine running Windows XP Pro. After using it for more than 5 years, today we have an issue with CVS. When we try to update a subdirectory in a repository, some of the files failed to update with message "Permission denied" and some files fail with the message "ABC.java is no longer in the repository". But when we login to the CVS machine itself and browse the subdirectory, we can see the files are there. We have checked the Windows folder permissions and they seem correct.

  • Multiple servers acting like a single one with all the hardware?

    Hello, by now I have 10 servers for hpc, power computing oriented. My users need to launch several processes using qmake. The users are used to work with ubuntu 9.10, and the software from the repositories is switable for them. I've deployed ubuntu 9.10 to all 10 servers (pxe rocks). By now we work with parallel-ssh and cluster-ssh, which allows as to launch the same process to all servers. With this tools this tools the servers remain as independent but with the same software and the same launched command. Now we would like to go to next step and see all the servers as a single one with all the resources from the other 9 as if was its resources. The difference would be substantial in time to process and also time to design the command to launch. Any advice on wich software to use will be very useful? Thanks

  • sox mix nested scripts on amazon ec2 rhel linux

    I'm trying to use "sox" to mix some audio files. The command works great on my Mac terminal sox -m audio.wav "| sox upload.wav -p trim 2 1 pad 6" final.wav This mixes (not concatenate) audio.wav and a section of upload.wav from the 2nd second to the 3rd second and adds 6 seconds of padding in the front, and outputs to final.wav Now the problem is, the SAME EXACT command does NOT work my Amazon EC2 RHEL box. (sox is installed correctly). I get the following error sox soxio: Can't open input file `| sox upload.wav -p trim 2 2 pad 6': No such file or directory For some reason RedHat doesn't like the double quotes. Even though it is documented to be used this way. Thanks for your help!

  • Get active network interface on Windows

    I'm developing an application that provides a UI to windump, the packet sniffer. Windump has a "-D" parameter that lists all network interfaces it can find, and then you can specify which interface to listen on. However, I'd like to avoid forcing the user to manually configure which interface to listen on. On Unix, I can obtain the right network interface (en0, en1, etc.) via a call to ifconfig and some parsing of the output, but I cannot locate any equivalent Windows API or command that can yield similar information--ipconfig doesn't seem to obtain this data. Can anyone suggest either a Windows command-line tool or an API that can be called via VBScript to obtain this data so that I don't have to present the user with a dialog in my GUI telling them to select the right interface?

  • Postfix / Dovecot and Email Retrieval

    I have setup Postfix and Dovecot on an Ubuntu box following the instructions http://www.exratione.com/2012/05/a-mailserver-on-ubuntu-1204-postfix-dovecot-mysql/ I can see that email is being delivered to and accepted by the server, but the email is not available for retrieval via POP3. What could be missing in my configuraton? It seems that email is not being properly handed off to Dovecot.   • environment variable issue in shell

    I am using Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5. I know the theory that -- using export to set environment variable, the environment variable will apply to current and child environment, but without using export to set environment variable, the environment variable will only apply to the current environment. My confusion is, what is the exact definition of "child environment" and "current environment"? For example, $ var1=123 $ echo "Hello [$var1]" the value of var1 (which is 123) is printed in shell, but I think echo is a command invoked by current shell, and it (the echo command) should be a child environment of current shell and the value of var1 should not (because not using export var1=123) impact echo. Any comments? Thanks in advance!

    I recently bought the wonderfully looking and reviewed Amnesia The Dark Descent and I'm trying to install it. The first time I tried to download it, I had to stop in the middle of the download (may have broken something). I am currently more than entertained enough with World of Goo and Command & Conquer, but I will want to play Amnesia in the close future.

  • Firefox freezes frequently

    Good day, The application Firefox freezes very frequently and I have to use 'force quit" to get out and hence I lose all my activities and it is extremely frustrating. Only in one occasion, there was a pop-out message saying that this problem was going to be tracked but in all other occasions there is no tracking and no message I posted this error on Ubuntu community and it was stopped and I was told to post it on launchpad. I did try to do so with no success as after reading pages and pages which i really do not understand who would read them and why so many ridiculous and tedious rules and information, i even could not find the place or the way to post this bug. And I thought of this ASkUBUNTU and so i am posting here in the hope for some useful help and I have to mention I am new to Linux. Just a few minutes ago, I opened the Firefox through the Terminal and it crashed very quickly and there are some error messages and i copy and paste them hoping they can help thank you in advance and look forward to your help and solving this frustrating problem/bug and if you wish you may post it on Launchpad or do with report as you wish as long as the problem is solved.   • SSH broken, segfault error 4

I'm looking for help where to start to search for the error, i can still act as root via a serial console. edit: "server unexpectedly closed connection" only appears if i enter the correct password!
