• Passing Date Parameter to BAM

  In the past I wrote a blog on passing ADF parameter to a BAM page. This sample can be further extended for parameter of any data type. • Security Alert For CVE-2010-4476 Released

  Hello, this is Eric Maurice again. Oracle just released a Security Alert with a fix for the vulnerability CVE-2010-4476, which affects Oracle Java SE and Oracle Java For Business. This vulnerability is present in Java running on servers as well as standalone Java desktop applications. Its successful exploitation by a malicious attacker can result in a complete denial of service for the affected servers. While only recently publicly disclosed, a number of Internet sites have since then reproduced details about this vulnerability, including exploit codes, which may result in allowing a malicious attacker to create a denial of service condition against the targeted system. Oracle therefore strongly recommends that affected organizations apply this fix as soon as possible. Please note that a fix for this vulnerability will also be included in the upcoming Java Critical Patch Update (Java SE and Java for Business Critical Patch Update - February 2011), which will be released on February 15th 2011. Note that the impact of this vulnerability on desktops is minimal: the affected applications or applets running in Internet browsers for example, might stop responding and may need to be restarted; however the desktop itself will not be compromised (i.e. no compromise at the desktop OS level). Oracle therefore recommends that consumers use the Java auto-update mechanism to get this fix. This will prompt them to install the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment 6 update 24 or higher (JRE), which includes the fix for this vulnerability. JRE 6 update 24 will also be distributed with the Java SE and Java for Business Critical Patch Update - February 2011. • Last-modified date not showing up in indexed documents

  We have tried everything, pushing feeds, setting up fields in "document dates" screen to enable all documents in the index to contain a value for Last-modified date. Nothing seems to make documents retain a "last-modified date" in the index. How does one enable a last-modified date for all documents in the index? Note: the meta value will come from an external xml source (not a database). Followed the google instructions for our gsa version (6.4.0.G.22). Yes I know the GSA version is quite old, we've been told by our google-representative support team themselves, that updating the GSA to the latest version "should" resolve the problem, and by "should" I mean, their GSA did the same thing (no last-modified date) and updating our GSA is another can of worms story :)

• JEE frameworks, a road map to learn? and should I learn them?

  Background Information I have been into programming since past 1 years professionally, my day to day work includes writing BIRT reports, designing and validating forms using JEE (struts/spring, hibernate). I don't have a comp Sci 4 year degree (Electronics), so I have very Limited experience in comp Sci. Question JEE frameworks (struts1/2, spring, hibernate etc) are hot nowadays, however java world have a tendency of building A4j, B4J... mayway4J kind of stuff (and I am tired of it). AFAIK, frameworks are nothing but bunch of XML config files and hundreds of classes built to cram (by developer). And sooner then later a new framework come into picture that says I am the best among all. So My Question is - 1.What will you do to learn a framework (many frameworks) considering that it can be obsolete till you'll be master in it (Learning frameworks can take significant amount of time)? 2.Considering early into your career, will you give a damn that how well someone knows framework (knowing frame work is important but still..) and why/how should I learn a framework knowing I have to (un)learn it in order to learn other one (plenty of of 4Js....)? I am just trying to get a big picture, that, if you're in place of me, what would be your learning/cramming strategy (Road map)? I am not intended to start a holy war between A versus B, (frameworks are more or less essential).

  Can anyone advise me how I can go about disabling Tomcat6 from displaying stacktrace output to the browser? Tomcat: 6.0.29 I have made the following changes to /opt/apache-tomcat-6.0.29/conf/web.xml <error-page> <exception-type>java.lang.Throwable</exception-type> <location>/error.jsp</location> </error-page> I'm told putting this in place will give a white screen if the file doesn't exist, however I'm getting stack traces to the screen.

• Source-control your BI Publisher reports

  Version control systems (VCS) like Subversion, Git and the others has been widely adopted and became the must-have tool in any software development project. Source artifacts and checked out, modified, checked in, all the history of changes is tracked by the VCS.  But what if the development tool stores the source/configuration artifacts not in your laptop's hard drive, but in some shared repository instead? Well, we definitely need a way for export/import our artifacts from/to this repository.   Oracle BI Publisher report development approach is based on such a shared repository model (catalog), and starting from BI Publisher 11.1.1.5 Oracle ships Catalog Utility, which can be utilized to export/import the reports from the command line.  To start using the BI Publisher Catalog Utility you should: Go to the file system of the server where BI Publisher binaries has been installed and locate the following file: <MW_HOME>/Oracle_BI1/clients/bipublisher/BIPCatalogUtil.zip Copy the file to your local filesystem and unzip it. I will refer to this unzipped directory as <BIP_CLIENT_DIR> below If you do not want to pass server BI Publisher server URL, username and password during each invocation, modify the corresponding values inside <BIP_CLIENT_DIR>/config/xmlp-client-config.xml Open the terminal window and go to <BIP_CLIENT_DIR>/bin Make sure that the following environment variables are set: JAVA_HOME, ORACLE_HOME Now it's time to run the utility: if you are on Linux - just run BIPCatalogUtil.sh and pass the parameters according to the utility documentation if you are on MS Windows the bad news are that the command script for MS Windows is missing, and support.oracle.com note 1333726.1 says that a temporary solution is "create a .cmd file by setting up a classpath and copying the same commands from the .sh script". • How to set up JBoss with S3_Ping on AWS?

  I'm looking into running clustered JBoss on Amazon Web Services (AWS). I'd like to try out S3_PING, i.e. making JBoss use an S3 bucket for dynamic node discovery etc, since no multicast is available. I found a piece of example config XML related to S3_Ping, but I'm not sure where in JBoss installation you're supposed to configure this. So, what JBoss config files would I need to tweak to get S3_PING working? Can anyone point me to a more complete example? JBoss 5.1.0 GA. (This is probably more a JGroups/JBoss question than anything else. I've already got the S3 bucket for this set up, so no problem there.)

  The following code attempts to access and print the user session ID from ADF Faces, using the session cookie that is automatically set by the server and the Http Session object itself. Dependent on the use case the session Id is looked up for, the difference may not be important. Another difference however, is of importance. The cookie reading only works if the session Id is added as a cookie to the request, which is configurable for applications in the weblogic-application.xml file. If cookies are disabled, then the server adds the session ID to the request URL (actually it appends it to the end of the URI, so right after the view Id reference). In this case however no cookie is set so that the lookup returns empty. In both cases however, the getId variant works.

• Pythonic use of the isinstance function?

  Whenever I find myself wanting to use the isinstance() function I usually know that I'm doing something wrong and end up changing my ways. However, in this case I think I have a valid use for it. I will use shapes to illustrate my point although I am not actually working with shapes. I am parsing XML configuration files that look like the following: <square> <width>7</width> </square> <rectangle> <width>5</width> <height>7</height> </rectangle> <circle> <radius>4</radius> </circle> For each element I create an instance of the Shape class and build up a list of Shape objects in a class called the ShapeContainer. Different parts of the rest of my application need to refer to the ShapeContainer to get certain shapes. Depending on what the code is doing it might need just rectangles, or it might operate on all quadrangles, or it might operate on all shapes. I have created the following function in the ShapeContainer class (the actual function uses a list comprehension but I have expanded it here for readability): def locate(self, shapeClass): result = [] for shape in self.__shapes: if isinstance(shape,shapeClass): result.append(shape) return result Is this a valid use of the isinstance function? Is there another way I can do this which might be more pythonic?

  Wow, creating IE Accelerators is superbly easy. If you want to learn how to create one, go here (some MSDN blog) and the MSDN documentation (clearly written). I was fed up of dictionary.com bringing all those popups and the stupid definitions of Google's dictionary. So I decided to scratch my own itch. I randomly stumbled on the site called Wordnik and it provides with all examples plus definitions plus lots more for words and its popup-free (as far as I know). So I decided to write and accelerator. • Debugging Node.js applications for Windows Azure

  In case you are developing a new web application with Node.js for Windows Azure, you might notice there is no easy way to debug the application unless you are developing in an integrated IDE like Cloud9. For those that develop applications locally using a text editor (or WebMatrix) and Windows Azure Powershell for Node.js, it requires some steps not documented anywhere for the moment. I spent a few hours on this the other day I practically got nowhere until I received some help from Tomek and the rest of them. The IISNode version that currently ships with the Windows Azure for Node.js SDK does not support debugging by default, so you need to install the IISNode full version available in the github repository.  Once you have installed the full version, you need to enable debugging for the web application by modifying the web.config file <iisnode debuggingEnabled="true" loggingEnabled="true" devErrorsEnabled="true" /> The xml above needs to be inserted within the existing “<system.webServer/>” section. The last step is to open a WebKit browser (e.g. Chrome) and navigate to the URL where your application is hosted but adding the segment “/debug” to  the end. The full URL to the node.js application must be used, for example, http://localhost:81/myserver.js/debug That should open a new instance of Node inspector on the browser, so you can debug the application from there. • Locally redirect Domain1.com to Domain2.com/subdir on one computer

  I am running a FreeBSD server and I want to redirect a specific website domain to another domain including subdirectory. I want to bypass that domain to alter the XML results it returns. I tried the hosts file solution, but that way I can only redirect to an IP address without subdir. So that's no solution. Is there another way to solve this? Installing something on the server if needed is not a problem. Unless it's a heavy program.

• htaccess rewrite and auth conflict

  I have 2 directories each with a .htaccess file: html/.htaccess - There is a rewrite in this file to send almost everything to url.php RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(exported/?|\.(php|gif|jpe?g|png|css|js|pdf|doc|xml|ico))$ RewriteRule (.*)$ /url.php [L] and html/exported/.htaccess AuthType Basic AuthName "exported" AuthUserFile "/home/siteuser/.htpasswd" require valid-user If I remove html/exported/.htaccess the rewriting works fine and the exported directory can be access. If I remove html/.htaccess the authentication works fine. However when I have both .htaccess files exported/ is being rewritten to /url.php. Any ideas how I can prevent it?

  Hi, this is Eric Maurice again! Oracle just released a Security Alert to announce the availability of fixes for two vulnerabilities (CVE-2010-0886 and CVE-2010-0887) affecting Oracle Java SE and Oracle Java For Business. Both vulnerabilities only affect Java when running in a 32-bit web browser. These vulnerabilities are not present in Java running on servers or standalone Java desktop applications and do not impact any Oracle server based software. The first vulnerability (CVE-2010-0886) affects the Java Deployment Toolkit (version 6 update 10 through 19) on Windows only. The second vulnerability (CVE-2010-0887) affects the Java Plug-in (version 6 update 18 and 19) on Windows, Solaris and Linux. Both vulnerabilities may allow an attacker to run commands on the user's system with the privileges of the user, whose system may have become compromised by visiting a malicious web site. Oracle rated the severity of both vulnerabilities with a CVSS Base Score of 10.0 because many Windows users grant themselves administrative privileges. However, on other platforms, or for Windows users with limited privileges, the CVSS Base Score is only 7.5, because a successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities cannot result in a full compromise of the affected system. Users can quickly determine if they are running vulnerable versions of Java by pointing their browser to http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml. • The Exceptional EXCEPT clause

  Ok, I exaggerate, but it can be useful… I came across some ‘poorly-written’ stored procedures on a SQL server recently, that were using sp_xml_preparedocument. Unfortunately these procs were  not properly removing the memory allocated to XML structures – ie they were not subsequently calling sp_xml_removedocument… I needed a quick way of identifying on the server how many stored procedures this affected.. Here’s what I used.. EXEC sp_msforeachdb 'USE ? SELECT DB_NAME(),OBJECT_NAME(s1.id) FROM syscomments s1 WHERE [text] LIKE ''%sp_xml_preparedocument%'' EXCEPT SELECT DB_NAME(),OBJECT_NAME(s2.id) FROM syscomments s2 WHERE [text] LIKE ''%sp_xml_removedocument%'' ‘ There’s three nice features about the code above… 1. It uses sp_msforeachdb. There’s a nice blog on this statement here 2. It uses the EXCEPT clause.  So in the above query I get all the procedures which include the sp_xml_preparedocument string, but by using the EXCEPT clause I remove all the procedures which contain sp_xml_removedocument.  Read more about EXCEPT here 3.
