  Have you ever wondered how to disable useless or insecure browser plug-ins in Google Chrome? Here’s the lowdown on how to get rid of Java, Acrobat, Silverlight, and the rest of the plugins you probably want to get rid of. Disabling Plugins in Google Chrome If you head to about:plugins in your address bar, you’ll probably see a list of plugins, but won’t be able to disable them yet. What you’ll need to do is switch over to the Dev channel of Chrome, which gives you access to all the latest features—though you might be warned that sometimes the dev channel might be less stable than the release or beta channels. Ready to proceed? Head to the Dev Channel page, and then click the link to run the installer. You’ll be prompted to restart Chrome when you’re done. Note that Mac and Windows users can both run an installer to switch. Linux users will have to install a package. Note: Once you’ve switched to the Dev channel, you can’t really switch to the stable channel. You’ll have to uninstall Chrome and then reinstall the regular version. Now that you’ve switched to the dev channel and restarted your browser, head to about:plugins in the address bar, and then just disable each plugin you really don’t need. Plugins you can generally live without?  Java, Acrobat, Microsoft Office, Windows Presentation Foundation, Silverlight. These will be on a case-by-case basis, of course, but the vast majority of large websites don’t require any of those. So far I have managed to use the udisks --mount/dev/sdf command in terminal, but get a message that I have not stated a filetype "john@john-desktop:~$ udisks --mount /dev/sdf Mount failed: Error mounting: mount: you must specify the filesystem type" This is the result I get when trying to mount the usb floppy disk drive. Also I haven't found instructions to installing gnome-classic on a server edition(although it shouldn't make a difference).How do I get it to work?

• Logstash shipper & server on the samebox

  I'm trying to setup a central logstash configuration. However I would like to be sending my logs through syslog-ng and not third party shippers. This means that my logstash server is accepting via syslog-ng all the logs from the agents. I then need to install a logstash process that will be reading from /var/log/syslog-clients/* and grabbing all the log files that are sent to the central log server. These logs will then be sent to redis on the same VM. In theory I need to also configure a second logstash process that will read from redis and start indexing the logs and send them to elasticsearch. My question: Do I have to use two different logstash processes (shipper & server) even if I am in the same box (I want one log server instance)? Is there any way to just have one logstash configuration and have the process read from syslog-ng --- write to redis and also read from redis --- output to elastic search ?   My problem is as follows. I have an array of n strings with m < n of them distinct. I want to create a one-to-one function which assigns each of the m distinct strings to the numbers 0 ... m-1. For example, if my strings are: Bob, Amy, Bob, Charlie, Amy then the function: Bob -> 0, Amy -> 1, Charlie -> 2 would meet my needs. I have thought of three possible approaches: Sort the list of strings, remove duplicates, and construct the function using a search algorithm. Create a hash table and check each string to see if it is already in the table before inserting it. Sort the list of strings, remove duplicates, and put the resulting list into a hash table. My code will be written in Java, and I will likely use standard Java algorithms: merge sort for sorting, binary search for searching, and whatever the standard Java hash table algorithm is. Question: Assume that after creating the function I will have to evaluate it on each of the n original strings. Which of the three approaches is fastest? Is there a better way? Part of the problem is that I don't really know what's going on "under the hood" in standard hashing algorithms. Any help would be appreciated.

  I'm new to Ubuntu. I installed Ubuntu 13.04 in my desktop. My pc's configuration is Intel 2.4 Ghz Intel 845 motherboard RAM 768 MB. After successful installation of Ubuntu 13.04, I logged into it, after logging in only default wallpaper is visible, there is no Task bar, no icons, it does not recognizes dongle and therefore there is no internet connection, terminal can be started by pressing Alt+Ctrl+t. I recently upgraded to 14.04 LTS, and now the switcher only shows a single workspace. I read several posts that talk about similar problems, but I wasn't able to get a viable clue. • Mouse settings/properties dialog box won't open in Windows 7

  Hi, I have a problem trying to open my computer's mouse settings by either going to the command prompt and typing, 'control mouse', 'main.cpl' (as researched online) or simply by trying to go to the Control Panel and clicking on 'Mouse' under Hardware and Sound section. I have also tried running cmd as Administrator and trying the above commands but that is of no help. Lastly, if I search for 'mouse' and click 'Mouse' from the Windows search bar, that doesn't work either. In the past I had bought and installed Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000 software and have just now bought and installed HP's Wireless Comfort Mobile mouse. Any help in this regard is highly recommended. I won't be able to restore or reinstall my laptop since it's a heavy use machine. Thanks! Yasser

• Display Driver Issue on an hp TX2-1160ea Notebook

  I'm new to Linux and recently switched to Ubuntu 11.04 due to my project requirement. My laptop has been freezing and going to black screen of death when I run anything related to display (Share desktop, stream video, etc). Today I went through the Ubuntu forum to install the appropriate graphic driver and, after doing it, I rebooted my PC. It gave an error before login saying "select the recovery mode" and after clicking OK, it didn't give the same error on reboot but I've lost the 11.04 graphical interface and all I see is the interface of Ubuntu v10 with slow visuals (even scrolling up/down on browser is really slow). For the reference, here's a desktop screenshot so that you can understand the situation. Also the laptop is overheating. How can I fix this problem? How can i get the Ubuntu 11.04 view back? I also tried Google, but couldn't find any issue like this.   I am having a weird problem with Eclipse documentation tooltips. When I startup Eclipse the tooltip works as expected: But after I press the down button the tooltip turns black: and stays like that for the rest of the session. I am using Eclipse Galileo and Ubuntu 11.04 with the classic desktop. EDIT: I am only experiencing this problem in PHP Development Tools. The tooltips work in Java and Python projects.

• Choose Custom New Tab Pages in Chrome

  For most people the default New Tab Page in Chrome works perfectly well for their purposes. But if you would prefer to choose what opens in a new tab for yourself then you will definitely want to have a look at the “Define your own new tab!” extension for Google Chrome. Before Unless you are using a Speed Dial (or similar) extension each time you click on the “New Tab Button” you get the same old page. It would certainly be a lot more satisfying if you could choose custom webpage(s) to open as new tabs. After Once you have the extension installed the best thing to do is click on the “New Tab Button”. That will open up the “Options Page” where you can enter one or two custom website URLs of your choosing. Once you have your custom URLs entered click on “Save”. As soon as you click on the “New Tab Button” your new custom webpage(s) will open. If you chose two webpages the first choice will open focused on the “right side” instead of the “left”. Clicking on the “Home Button” will also open the webpage(s) that you chose. The webpage(s) that you chose will also open as your starting “Home Pages” each time that you start your browser. Conclusion If you have wanted to choose your own custom “New Tab Page” then this is the extension that you have been waiting for.
