  • Some URLs fail to load on Windows web portal

    I’m working in a large data center and have been assigned to troubleshoot and issue with a windows (IIS) web server that acts as a portal for a customer of the data center. This portal server is on a DMZ at the local data center. I don’t have access to the portal desktop and am relying on an off-site administrator to work with me to do testing and report the condition of the portal. He tells me there are no software firewalls or other filtering configured. While most of the remote web pages work fine, several of the URSs the portal is suppose to serve up fail to load. I had wireshark installed on the portal system and had a capture taken of one of the failures. I used IE to access one of the remote web servers at issue. I could see the TCP SYN-ACK coming back from the remote server, but after several HTTP GETs fail to get a response the portal server sends a reset. The webmaster of the remote web server assures me that no sites are being blocked. I had a capture taken outside the local firewall, so there should be no issue there. Another tech set up a laptop and used the IP address of the portal (we took the portal off-line for the test). The laptop loads the URL as expected. I tried having Firefox loaded to make sure that the HTTP GET was not mal-formed. Same failure as with IE. So, it seems it is not the remote web server or the network, because there was no problem with the laptop. At this point, I’m not sure what other questions to ask or tests to do.

  • Disk Error on Boot (Possible boot sector issue)

    I own a 4-5 year old Dell Dimension E510 with Windows XP: Media Center Edition. I have 2 drives installed: C Drive: Windows XP: Media Center Edition G Drive: 2 partitions: Windows 7 (beta) Windows XP (professional) That is also the order they are connected. The C Drive is my primary drive. When I attempt to boot the computer, the bios loading screen appears normally; the progress bar moves and it's fine. The very next page, however, supposed to be a boot choice. When I installed Windows 7 onto the G Drive in context of the C drive it added a boot selector to the C drive's boot sequence. It gives me the option of booting Windows 7 or Windows XP: Media Center Edition. However, my problem is now this: After the bios screen I previously mentioned, instead of a boot selector, I receive the following error: A disk read error occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart. The drive is spinning up normally. I hear no odd noises/clicks/scraping coming from it, even after disabling the other drive to listen to it carefully. According to me, it's a boot sector issue. I have never experienced this before, but maybe during a recent shutdown, Windows XP: MCE errored out and ruined the boot sector. Dilemma! I don't have the Windows XP: MCE disc, because it was installed by the factory. I have accessed the hidden partition on the drive before (you hit a key combination on the bios screen and it comes up with an interface to fix your drive). However, I don't want to reformat the drive (which is what the interface gives me the option to do). I want to possibly fix the boot sector. How can I achieve that?

Any idea? Edit: in the end the object (space ship) has to rotate like a clock pointer, as if it is turning right/left.

  • CSS / jQuery Vertically and Horizontally Center DIV

    I'm trying to vertically and horizontally center this div even when there is content to scroll and the user is scrolling down the page. The following test works fine in IE, but in Firefox I get a weird flickering affect when hovering over the thumbnail image.   • Help me re-center a ModalPopup within an iframe when the iframe's parent window scrolls

    I have a web page with an iframe in it (I don't like it, but that's the way it has to be). It's not a cross-domain iframe so there's nothing to worry about there. I have written a jQuery extension that does the centering of a ModalPopup (which is called from an overridden AjaxControlToolkit.ModalPopupBehavior._layout method) based on the width and height of the iframe's parent, so that it looks centered even though the iframe is not in the center of the page. It's a lot of tricky stuff, especially since the web page I added the iframe to runs in quirks mode. Now, I've also overridden AjaxControlToolkit.ModalPopupBehavior._attachPopup, so that when the parent window resizes or scrolls, the ModalPopup inside of the iframe recenter's itself relative to the new size of the parent window. However, the same code that attaches the popup to the parent window's resize event does NOT work for the parent window's scroll event.     Hi all! I'm a real noobie with flash and I was wondering if somebody could help me with this one. I have this actionsript 3 code, where the cursor image "ball_mc" follows the mouse's position with a slight delay: stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,followBall); function followBall(event:Event):void { var dx:int = ball_mc.x - mouseX; var dy:int = ball_mc.y - mouseY; ball_mc.x -= dx / 5; ball_mc.y -= dy /5; } 1) How can I get the cursor image automatically return to the center of the stage on mouseout? As of now, it stays at the position where the mouse leaves the stage. 2) How can I reverse the movement of the mouse? So that when I, for example, move mouse to the right, the cursor image would move to the left? And when moving the mouse up, the image would go down. The stage is 800 x 250 pixels, in case that makes any difference.

  • Horizontally and Vertically Center Modal Div IE Issue

    I'm trying to horizontally and vertically center a modal window inside a div. I want it to be cross browser compatible. You can see from the picture below that when I resize IE8 then click, "show modal" button it displays not exactly horizontally centered. This does not seem to be an issue with Chrome. Any thoughts?   • Center aligned form with equal width labels

    I have a very simple web form which consists of labels and input fields, however I can not seem to find a way of aligning the form in the center of the page and for the labels to have an equal width so that they appear neatly next to each other, one under the other. Also I am not able to set the width of the page (or any containing divs) as the page will be displayed on mobile devices with different screen sizes. Any suggestions as to how best style the form?   • Run both Authorize Filter and Action Filter on unauthenticated ASP.NET MVC request

    I have decorated my base controller with a couple of action filters. They work fine. One of those filters sets up the request - does things like set the culture based on the domain, etc. I also have a handful of actions that require authorization using the Authorize attribute. My problem is that when an user attempts to request a page they are not authorized to access, the authorization filter kicks in and redirects them to a page telling them that they cannot vie the page. The issue is that the action filters never run so the culture and other request data is never set. This effectively causes language to be wrong in the view and other data to be missing. I know that authorization filters run first but my question is this: How can I design this such that I can ensure that certain methods are always run before the view is returned, regardless of the authorization. Hope that makes sense.

  • Cocoa: getting a Table View cell to send action messages

    I'm really having trouble getting a Cocoa Table View cell to send action messages. At the most basic level, in IB there is an action assigned for the NSTextViewCell object, and after editing and pressing Return nothing happens. So I have an IBOutlet hooked up to the NSTextViewCell, and have been experimenting with NSActionCell messages to it. But the Table View seems to pretty much just ignore them. I've also tried subclassing NSTextViewCell, but the methods I'm seeing all look like they want to pass values to the object from somewhere, not return a value from inside the object to configure its behavior. I'm pretty new to programming and Cocoa -- can someone explain each thing that needs to be overridden and how and where to do it?

  • How to return model state from child action handler in ASP.NET MVC

    In my blog engine, I have one controller action that displays blog content, and in that view, I call Html.RenderAction(...) to render the "CreateComment" form. When a user posts a comment, the post is handled by the comment controller (not the blog controller). If the comment data is valid, I simply return a Redirect back to the blog page's URL. If the comment data is invalid (e.g. comment body is empty), I want to return the ViewData with the error information back to the blog controller and through the blog view to the CreateComment action/view so I can display which fields are bad. I have this working fine via AJAX when Javascript is enabled, but now I'm working on the case where Javascript might be disabled. If I return a RedirecToAction or Redirect from the comment controller, the model state information is lost. Any ideas?

    Say I have a page that display search results. I search for stackoverflow and it returns 5000 results, 10 per page. What I'd like to do is <%=Html.BuildActionLinkUsingCurrentActionPostData ("Next", "Search", new { Page = 1}); where the anonymous dictionary overrides anything currently set by previous action. Essentially I care about what the previous action parameters were, because I want to reuse, it sounds simple, but start adding sort and loads of advance search options and it starts getting messy. Im probably missing something obvious

    I have a navigation bar that uses JQuery to move between 4 stages of signup process. However I need to make sure everything is working with JS disabled. So I have these 4 link images at the bottom of the page and I need so that if one is clicked it posts to the current action so I can save all the form data and then redirect to the next stage. The redirect is easy enough as I will just pass a parameter in the route or form but I don't know how to post the method using just action links. I could put 4 different submit buttons with different classes for the image backgrounds etc but this feels wrong. Any ideas?

I can only send route values either as an object or as an RouteValueDictionary. So currently I send object ID and type and pull the object out of the datastore again in the action to which I redirected (like Results). // redirect to confirm view return RedirectToAction("ChangeSuccess", "Redirect", new { slug = tabgroup.Slug, contentType = tabgroup.ContentType }); But I would like to send an object there because I already have it in my updating controller action so I don't need to pull it out again. Is that possible somehow?

When the custom action reads this column like this: hr = WcaGetRecordString(hRecCertificate, vcpqAccount, &pwzTemp); it get's the string "[Property]". But I need "PropertyValue".   • help with rails render action vs routing

    I was using some image cropping example that I found online and now I got confused. There is actually no "crop" method in my controller. Instead (following the guide) I put a render :action => 'cropping', :layout=> "admin" In my create method. That renders a page the view called cropping.html.erb . It works fine but I have no idea how to link or render that page otherwise, like if I wanted to hit a URL directly or press a button to recrop an image. Should I actually create a crop method in my controller and hook it up via routing if I want to be able to do this, or is there a way within my view to link to the same place that renders the cropping action? Sorry about the confusion :) It doesn't help that the first version of the tutorial did have a cropping method and he removed it!! Any explanation on why one method is better over the other would be great. Thanks!!

  • 32 and 64 bit assemblies in one windows installer

    Hello, I have an application written in C# which depends on sqlite managed provider. The sqlite provider is platform dependent (there are two dlls for 32 and 64 bit applications with the same name). The application loads the desired one at runtime based on OS. The problem is that while creating an installer I cannot add 64 bit mode dll to the setup project as I am getting the following error: File '' targeting '' is not compatible with the project's target platform ''. I would use other installer but I have a custom action which must be invoked during the setup. So I wanted to know if there is an installer which will let me add 32 and 64 bit dll to it and execute custom action written in C#. One possible solution is to have two installers but I would like to avoid it if possible. Any suggestions?

It's basically possible to unserialize a database text result into a variable in an action and pass it to template, in which case it displays fine: $this->clean = unserialize($this->raw); <?php echo $clean ?> But not if called directly in a template: <?php echo unserialize($raw) ?> Would be interested in knowing why this is so and whether there's some workaround.
