• HTML Chrome Audit Specify Image Dimensions

  I just started using the chrome developer tools for some basic html websites and I used the audit tool. I had two identical images, one with the height and width attribute, and one without. On the Resources section, both the latency and the download time were identical. However, the Audit showed Specify image dimensions (1) A width and height should be specified for all images in order to speed up page display. Does this actually help? And are there any other ways to speed up page time? This is only a splash page for the website I am building and as such it is only html, no css or javascript or anything. I have already compressed the images but I want to speed up load time even more. Is there a way?

• Shell Extension: DragQueryFile returns at most 16 (in Windows 7)

  I've writtten a shell extension (guided by The Complete Idiot's Guide to Writing Shell Extensions) which worked as it should until I upgraded to Windows 7(32bit). Now, the function DragQueryFile UINT uNumFiles = DragQueryFile(hDrop,0xFFFFFFFF,NULL,0); returns the right number of selected files until the number is above 16. Then always 16 is returned. I've tested it in XP(32) and Vista(32), there it works, in Windows7 (32/64) it doesn't. Any ideas? Thanks.

  I have SlideShowPro, a Flash photo app that loads an XML file with the paths to the images. Now I don't want people to go sniff in the XML file to get to the images. I tried changing the file images.xml to spacer.gif and it seems to work fine. But I would like to know if I would run into any problems changing the extension. btw already used a few techniques to make the images not so accessible, I know there is no bulletproof solution. Obfuscating the XML file is just another trick..

• Call glutinit in a PHP extension

  Hi guys, I am developing a php extension that require the use of opengl. I tried to initialize the library with glutinit; it works in CLI environment but when I tried on browser it doesn't seem to execute the code. The code is actually executed on the server side. It is part of a process to extract features from an image, and the server will return a list of closest image to the user. I very new to opengl, so I'm not sure what kind of error is this, does anybody have any knowledge with this?

Shouldn't it need to parse HTML source FIRST Before it parses CSS file (I assume which triggers the 'Recalculate Style') and Java Script file (I assume which triggers the 'Function Call')

• This regx does not work only in Chrome

  Hi i just put up a validation function in jScript to validate filename in fileupload control[input type file]. The function seems to work fine in FF and sometimes in ie but never in Chrome. Basically the function tests if File name is atleast 1 char upto 25 characters long.Contains only valid characters,numbers [no spaces] and are of file types in the list. • Firefox extension dev: observing preferences, avoid multiple notifications

  Let's say my Firefox extension has multiple preferences, but some of them are grouped, like check interval, fail retry interval, destination url. Those are used in just single function. When I subscribe to preference service and add observer, the observe callback will be called for each changed preference, so if by chance user changed all of the settings in group, then I will have to do the same routine for the same subsystem as many times as I have items in that preferences group. It's a great redundancy! What I want is observe to be called just once for group of preferences. Say extensions.myextension.interval1 extensions.myextension.site extensions.myextension.retry so if one or all of those preferences are changed, I receive only 1 notification about it. In other words, no matter how many preferences changed in branch, I want the observe callback to called once.

• C# extension method doesn't seem to exist

  I can't seem to get the following extension method to be found in another class in the same namespace (MyProject.Util). using System.Collections.Specialized; namespace MyProject.Util { public static class Extensions { public static string Get( this NameValueCollection me, string key, string def ) { return me[key] ?? def; } } } As you can see it's basically another version of foo[bar] ?? baz, but I still don't understand why VS2008 fails to compile telling me that no version of Get takes two arguments. Any ideas?

• Telerik RadAjaxManager and Mouse Events in Chrome

  Whenever I'm using Telerik's RadAjaxManager in Chrome, the events sent to any mouse events I'm using are passed as null. For instance, the following: <img id="Image1" src="image.gif" onclick="alert(event)" /> <rad:RadAjaxManager ID="RadAjaxManager1" runat="server"> <AjaxSettings> </AjaxSettings> </rad:RadAjaxManager> Alerts null when clicking the image. This does not happen in IE or FF. The version of the RadAjaxManager is 1.8.5.0. I'm guessing the problem does not occur in later versions, but an upgrade is not an option at the moment. I tried Telerik's support forum, but they didn't really provide any answer. What could cause such a problem? And how can it be dealt with?

  I'm having problems with cache, I think. I have a website in Joomla, and I have some .css (layout.css, position.css, .... ) and I have at home of the website, 3 buttons, I tested in localhost, and when I see the home well, I upload everything to production, to my server. Now, I just edited some styles of these buttons, for example, the width, in order to see them better...but I'm having a problem with the cache, because sometimes I see them with new changes, but other times I see with the old styles.....I realized that this happens especially with chrome Could you help me, please?   Hi, i've written this peace of code: var a=function(){ }; a.name="test"; a.prop="test2"; Now if i debug the code with the console: console.log(a.name); console.log(a.prop); In Firefox i get a.name="test" and a.prop="test2", while in Safari and Chrome i get a.prop="test2" but a.name="". It seems that there's no way to assign a "name" property on a function in Webkit browsers. Do you know why? But the most important thing is, do you know a workaround for that?

  I have inherited development of a Java/SWT application running on Windows only. One of the feature requests that I need to scope is a Google-chrome-type title bar in place of the SWT windows title bar. The application's tabs appear at the same level as the window control buttons. My understanding is that I will need to: write a Windows widget capable of rendering the custom look and managing tabs as opposed to menus. expose the Windows widget as a dll for use in Java via JNI write a custom SWT widget to wrap it and expose the tab management interface. I have a lot of experience with Java programming, GUI programming with Swing/AWT, and non-GUI C# programming. Windows GUI programming and SWT are new to me so I'm not sure where to start. The best I have found so far is a 2001 article on writing your own SWT widget. My biggest unknown is the best way to implement a custom Windows application-window.

• Chrome starts to load image then show broken link icon

  Chrome (21.0.1180.79 m) On several random pages it has started to load an image and then suddenly the image disappears and there's only the broken image icon. If I right click the icon and choose to open the image in another window then the image opens, so it seems to me that it isn't a problem with the page? • CSS: Size of buttons in Chrome is different than Firefox

Any ideas why? UPDATE: If you're wondering why I have the negative margin - it's because between the input field and the input button - there is too much space.

  In my chrome extension I call this: jsonPost = { email:"[email protected]", password:"demo", content: $('#selected_text').val(), notification_type: $('#notification_type').val(), name:$('#notification_name').val() } $.post('http://localhost:3000/api/create.json', jsonPost, function (data) { console.log("type of data = " + typeof(data)); console.log("data in function = " + data); } The data makes it to the server. But the response is lost, in the console ---type of data = String ---data in function = So for some reason I am not getting the response back. Works from the browser. I even tried doing a get against cnn.com and got no response. any ideas? thanks

I believe that it has something to do with "commands.hasOwnProperty(command)" that is preventing it from working properly. I am using JQuery the javascript library to build the website, and I need to know how to solve this problem, or an alternative.
