  • Most Lite-Weight XML Parser with XPath and Wide-char Support

    I want a lite-weight C++ XML parser/DOM that: Can take UTF-8 as input, and parse into UTF-16. Maybe it does this directly (ideal!), or perhaps it provides a hook for the conversion (such as taking a custom stream object that does the conversion before parsing). Offers some XPath support. I've been looking at RapidXML, the Kranf xmlParser, and pugiXML. The first two of those might permit requirement #1 by way of a hook. The third, pugiXML, supports the #2 requirement. But none of those three fulfill both requirements. What is the smallest (free) library that can handle both requirements?

I've read up on their syntax, and I can't seem to figure out how to make it work with templates.     I want to remove spaces from strings where the space is preceeded by a digit or a "." and acceded by a digit or ".". I have strings like: "50 .10", "50 . 10", "50. 10" and I want them all to become "50.10" but with an unknown number of digits on either side. I'm trying with lookahead/lookbehind assertions like this: $row = str_replace("/(?<=[0-9]+$)\s*[.]\s*(?=[0-9]+$)/", "", $row); But it does not work...

    Hi to all, first i would like to say i am Newbie in C++. As part of my master thesis i am writing a program in C++ which also get as parameters the variables m and d (both integers). Were d is the power of 2 (this means 2^d elements). Parameter m define the number of possible interactions between one element and the total group (2^d elements). The number of possible interactions is computed as following: \kappa = \sum_{i=0}^m\binom{d}{i} (at present i generate vector of vectors for 2^d x \kappa, but my Prof. would like me to create different statistics to different m's. My first though was to to generate a dynamic array of m arrays of different sizes... Then i though of defining a 3-dim array with the biggest needed 2d array, but also program speed is important (e.g d = 20). i would like to ask for your advice how to define such kind of dynamic array that will also be fast.   • Memory read/write access efficiency

    I've heard conflicting information from different sources, and I'm not really sure which one to believe. As such, I'll post what I understand and ask for corrections. Let's say I want to use a 2D matrix. There are three ways that I can do this (at least that I know of). 1: int i; char **matrix; matrix = malloc(50 * sizeof(char *)); for(i = 0; i < 50; i++) matrix[i] = malloc(50); 2: int i; int rowSize = 50; int pointerSize = 50 * sizeof(char *); int dataSize = 50 * 50; char **matrix; matrix = malloc(dataSize + pointerSize); char *pData = matrix + pointerSize - rowSize; for(i = 0; i < 50; i++) { pData += rowSize; matrix[i] = pData; } 3: //instead of accessing matrix[i][j] here, we would access matrix[i * 50 + j] char *matrix = malloc(50 * 50); In terms of memory usage, my understanding is that 3 is the most efficient, 2 is next, and 1 is least efficient, for the reasons below: 3: There is only one pointer and one allocation, and therefore, minimal overhead. 2: Once again, there is only one allocation, but there are now 51 pointers. This means there is 50 * sizeof(char *) more overhead. 1: There are 51 allocations and 51 pointers, causing the most overhead of all options. In terms of performance, once again my understanding is that 3 is the most efficient, 2 is next, and 1 is least efficient. Reasons being: 3: Only one memory access is needed. We will have to do a multiplication and an addition as opposed to two additions (as in the case of a pointer to a pointer), but memory access is slow enough that this doesn't matter. 2: We need two memory accesses; once to get a char *, and then to the appropriate char. Only two additions are performed here (once to get to the correct char * pointer from the original memory location, and once to get to the correct char variable from wherever the char * points to), so multiplication (which is slower than addition) is not required. However, on modern CPUs, multiplication is faster than memory access, so this point is moot. 1: Same issues as 2, but now the memory isn't contiguous. This causes cache misses and extra page table lookups, making it the least efficient of the lot. First and foremost: Is this correct? Second: Is there an option 4 that I am missing that would be even more efficient?

  • Remove pointer object whose reference is mantained in three different lists

    I am not sure how to approach this problem: 'Player' class mantains a list of Bullet* objects: class Player { protected: std::list< Bullet* > m_pBullet_list; } When the player fires a Bullet, it is added to this list. Also, inside the constructor of bullet, a reference of the same object is updated in CollisionMgr, where CollisionMgr also mantains a list of Bullet*. Bullet::Bullet(GameGL*a_pGameGL, Player*a_pPlayer) : GameObject( a_pGameGL ) { m_pPlayer = a_pPlayer; m_pGameGL->GetCollisionMgr()->AddBullet(this); } class CollisionMgr { void AddBullet(Bullet* a_pBullet); protected: std::list< Bullet*> m_BulletPList; } In CollisionMgr.Update(); based on some conditions, I populate class Cell which again contain a list of Bullet*. Finally, certain conditions qualify a Bullet to be deleted. Now, these conditions are tested upon while iterating through a Cell's list. So, if I have to delete the Bullet object, from all these places, how should I do it so that there are no more dangling references to it? std::list< Bullet*>::iterator bullet_it; for( bullet_it = (a_pCell->m_BulletPList).begin(); bullet_it != (a_pCell->m_BulletPList).end(); bullet_it++) { bool l_Bullet_trash = false; Bullet* bullet1 = *bullet_it; // conditions would set this to true if ( l_Bullet_Trash ) // TrashBullet( bullet1 ); continue; } Also, I was reading about list::remove, and it mentions that it calls the destructor of the object we are trying to delete. Given this info, if I delete from one list, the object does not exist, but the list would still contain a reference to it..How do I handle all these problems ? Can someone please help me here ?   • Lackadaisical One-to-One between Char and Byte Streams

    I expected to have a one-to-one correspondence between the character streams and byte streams in terms of how the classes are organized in their hierarchy. FilterReader and FilterWriter (character streams) correspond back to FilterInputStream and FilterOutputStream (byte stream) classes. However I noticed few changes as - BufferedInputStream extends FilterInputStream, but BufferedReader does NOT extend FilterReader. BufferedOutputStream and PrintStream both extend FilterOutputStream, but BufferedWriter and PrintWriter does NOT extend FilterWriter. FilterInputStream and FilterOutputStream are not abstract classes, but FilterReader and FilterWriter are. I am not sure if I am being too paranoid to point out such differences, but was just curious to know if there was design reasoning behind such decision.

    In a header file, I have forward declared two members of a namespace: namespace Foo { struct Odp typedef std::vector<Odp> ODPVEC; }; class Bar { public: Foo::ODPVEC baz; // C2036 }; The error generated by the compiler is: error C2036: 'Foo::Odp *': unknown size I'm guessing this is an issue with forward declaring Odp. How can I get around this?

    We upgraded from mockito-all-1.8.5.jar to mockito-all-1.9.0.jar and now see null pointers when using annotations for the classes being mocked. This worked in 1.8.5.

    If I do the following: int c0 = CHAR_MAX; //8 bit int c1 = CHAR_MAX; //8-bit int i = c0*c1; //store in 32-bit variable printf("%d\n", i); //prints 16129 We can see that there is no problem with to 8-bit numbers being multiplied together, and producing a 32-bit output. However, if I do int i0 = INT_MAX; //32-bit int i1 = INT_MAX; //32 bit variable long long int ll = i0*i1; //store in 64-bit variable printf("%lld\n", ll); //prints 1..overflow!! In this case, two 32-bit variables were multiplied together, overflowed, and then were assigned to the 64-bit variable. So why did this overflow happen when multiplying the ints, but not the chars? Is it dependent on the default word-size of my machine? (32-bits)

  • Compiler error when casting to function pointer

    I'm writing a bootloader for the PIC32MX, using HiTech's PICC32 compiler (similar to C90). At some point I need to jump to the real main routine, so somewhere in the bootloader I have void (*user_main) (void); user_main = (void (*) (void)) 0x9D003000; user_main(); (Note that in the actual code, the function signature is typedef'd and the address is a macro.) I would rather calculate that (virtual) address from the physical address, and have something like: void (*user_main) (void); user_main = (void (*) (void)) (0x1D003000 | 0x80000000); user_main(); ...but when I try that I get a compiler error: Error #474: ; 0: no psect specified for function variable/argument allocation Have I tripped over some vagarity of C syntax here? This error doesn't reference any particular line, but if I comment out the user_main() call, it goes away. (This might be the compiler removing a redundant code branch, but the HiTech PICC32 isn't particularly smart in Lite mode, so maybe not.)

This is since FooHolder has some event handlers that needs to be hooked/unhooked when the value of the property is changed. The property changed callback must be static, but the event handler is not.
