• Refactored App Engine project - now Eclipse is infinitely building the project without end

  I renamed some files in my App Engine project and refactored code, changing references to variables. Everything seemed fine until I changed the references in the web.xml for the project. Then I got a complaint about some error with the DataNucleus enhancer and now the project build process is stuck at 22%. I tried stopping Eclipse and restarting but the build process keeps hanging. Any tips on how to clean out whatever it's getting stuck on?

I've noticed that some form processors make a mess out of posted TinyURLs (converting the thing to a broken 'tinyurl": "http:\/?\/?tinyurl.com\/?whatever", "ok": tr') while leaving alone other plain URLs. I've seen it happen in WordPress, and I've seen it here on SO (eg.: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2508690/whats-the-most-efficient-way-to-setup-a-multi-lingual-website - second comment to first answer). Has anybody looked into what component or function is doing this? Is there a way to prevent it?

  Posting a video on tumblr.com allows you to just paste the URL of the video on youtube, vimeo, whatever and tumblr automatically does the embedding for you. I assume that this would be nothing more than a mapping between an URL-regex and the belonging HTML construct for embedding the video. Or it is just parsing the response of the URL and getting the construct from there. Is there already any utility, preferably in Java, for doing this? If not, how would you do it?

• Good policy to force all developers in a company to use the same IDE?

  In my organization they are thinking about rolling out Eclipse company wide but I prefer using another editor (UltraEdit). I do not have any good arguments against this except subjective opinions that a developer should get to use whatever he/she wants as long as he's productive enough. This to make the developer a happy employee :-) Do you guys think its a good policy to force all developers in the same company to use the same IDE? Would there be any technical (dis)advantages of this decision?

• Ruby: How can I have a Hash take multiple keys?

  I'm taking 5 strings (protocol, source IP and port, destination IP and port) and using them to store some values in a hash. The problem is that if the IPs or ports are switched between source and destination, the key is supposed to be the same. If I was doing this in C#/Java/whatever I'd have to create a new class and overwrite the hashcode()/equals() methods, but that seems error prone from the little I've read about it and I was wondering if there would be a better alternative here.

  Visual Studio 2010 adds a zoom setting on the bottom left of the text editor (to the left of the horizontal scroll bar) and also adopts the control + mouse scroll idiom for zooming in and out. The former is fine, but I dislike the latter as I am occasionally still holding control when I start scrolling my source code (which results in the text size radically changing and completely throwing me off whatever I was doing). How do I disable it?

  open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/var/www/vhosts/domain.com) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs:/tmp) How do I securely fix this? This is preventing me from listing and creating directories outside of the current directory.   I work with Zend Framework a lot and I just took a peek at Kohana, and it strikes me as odd that this is a typical scenario in these frameworks: throw Some_Componenents_Exception( 'invalid argument' ); Where I believe this wouldn't be mouch more useful: throw Some_Components_InvalidArgumentException( 'whatever discription' ); Because it is easier to catch. I suspect, but immediately admit it's prejudiced, that the former practice is common in the PHP community. Should we, the PHP community, start using these descriptive types of expections more?
