  • Nice, clean, simple way of getting a dataset from ASP.NET to plain HTML jQuery or JavaScript library

    I know this is a probable open ended question, and I have tried looking around so much over the last year or two... maybe I am looking for a perfect place that doesn't exist! of course it's all about perception no less.. Anyway, just to clarify what I am trying to do and why: I want to be able to use (primarily for the moment) ASP.NET or services thereof to get a dataset - whatever the source data, I can obviously get a dataset of rows/Columns. I want to be able to, as simply as possible, get that data over to the client via xml/json/whatever, to then use in a "variety" of ways. "Variety" of ways meaning I would like to "easily" bind that data to say a grid, or a combo dropdown or just simply render to a textbox - BUT by referencing the dataset as I would say on the serverside. Now I know this all sounds simplistic, and I know there are lots of complications.. so I have tried the following so far over the last year or so: ExtJS - very good, nice solid framework, but just found it a bit too much to use in everyday basic apps - great if I was building a whole application with it Yahoo YUI - not looked recently, but I guess some of the concepts with ExtJS were similar? JQuery - of course to get data etc, it was ok, and I guess there are so many 3rd party plugins, that a mix and match might work? Adobe SPRY - ironically this was as close to getting a dataset style structure to Javascript/client, although it seemed to drop off/go quiet..? I maybe wrong.. I did have a very cursory play with Tibco GI and another one I cannot remember the name of! but again, it felt like it was great to build a whole app perhaps? Anyway, I am very amazed by all of the technologies coming out, and really not biased one way or the other, I really just want a very simple way of getting data from the server, and having a basic/very flexible way of working with that data in the client without using server technologies.. I need to keep the server flexible as I may need to use PHP, or java technologies not just .NET So again, sorry for the rambles, but if anyone out there has had a simple experience, or would like to share some ideas, it would be very welcomed!!     Hi, I did a Mod rewrite for my website so the URLs looks like this : http://www.mydomain.com/health/54856 http://www.mydomain.com/economy/strategy/911025/ http://www.mydomain.com/tags/obama/new So, the problem is that i make AJAX calls to a file here : http://www.mydomain.com/login.php And i don't want to write the FULL url or even use ../ trick because there isn't a fixed number of folders. So, what i want now, is something worked for my code to access the login.php from the root whatever the domain name is : $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "http://www.mydomain.com/login.php" });

  • Codeigniter: Submitting Forms

    How do I submit a form that can do two different things based on the URI? For example, if the URI contains a string "new" the form will submit differently than it would if "new" were not in the URI. I'm having trouble implementing this, as when a form is submitted, it takes the URI of whatever "form_open" says.

  • Why doesn't Apple make private APIs inaccessible?

    If Apple doesn't want developers using private APIs in the iPhone SDK, why don't they do something like mark the classes and/or methods with whatever the Objective-C equivalent of C#'s "internal" keyword? If the APIs are spread amongst multiple binaries, Apple could refactor them into dedicated private-API-only binaries to make this easier for them.

  • Where to keep a querystring parameter in session ?

    Users will get to my site using a specific parameter, e.g. : http://www.mysite.com/whatever/?keepTrackOfThisValue=foo or http://www.mysite.com/who/cares/?keepTrackOfThisValue=bar I would like to store the value of this peculiar parameter in Session everytime I found it in the QueryString. I'm currently using the Session_Start event in Global.asax in order to store this but I would like to override the value each time the parameter value change, which is not possible my way. Where would you do this ?

  • How to avoid last character truncation in editor

    Hi I am using WYSIWYG - jQuery plugin 0.4 for tinymce editor. whenever i am loading the editor, IFrame tag is created which is displayed is getting with textarea tag which is hidden. The problem here is the last character is getting truncated whatever we typed in the editor. I am seeing that hidden tag textarea is getting the value from the second character which is keyed from editor. Please let me know how to resolve this issue. Thanks Srinivas

  • iphone xml handing

    I want my app to read a XML via internet. Also I want to keep the previously download xml so next time I may not need to download again until certain hours is passed or whatever period of time according to settings. Do you recommend me to download it first and store locally before process it? Or should I process it while downloading (with libxml2 I guess)? What do you usually with apps using remote XML? Targeting 3.0 devices btw.

  • windows phone deserialization json

    I have a weird issue. so I am making a few calls in my app to a webservice, which replies with data. However I am using a token based login system, so the first time the user enters the app I get a token from the webservice to login for that specific user and that token returns only that users details. The problem I am having is when the user changes I need to make the calls again, to get the new user's details, but using visual studio's breakpoint debugging, it shows the new user's token making the call however the problem is when the json is getting deserialized, it is as if it still reads the old data and deserializes that, when I exit my app with the new user it works fine, so its as if it is reading cached values, but I have no idea how to clear it? I am sure the new calls are being made and the problem lies with the deserializing, but I have tried clearing the values before deserializing them again, however nothing works. am I missing something with the json deserializer, how van I clear its cached values? here I make the call and set it not to cache so it makes a new call everytime: client.Headers[HttpRequestHeader.CacheControl] = "no-cache"; var token_details = await client.DownloadStringTaskAsync(uri); and here I deserialize the result, it is at this section the old data gets shown, so the raw json being shown inside "token_details" is correct, only once I deserialize the token_details, it shows the wrong data. deserialized = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject(token_details); and the class I am deserializing into is a simple class nothing special happening here, I have even tried making the constructor so that it clears the values each time it gets called. public class test { public string status { get; set; } public string name{ get; set; } public string birthday{ get; set; } public string errorDes{ get; set; } public test() { status = ""; name= ""; birthday= ""; errorDes= ""; } } uri's before making the calls: {https://whatever.co.za/token/?code=BEBCg==&id=WP7&junk=121edcd5-ad4d-4185-bef0-22a4d27f2d0c} - old call "UBCg==" - old reply {https://whatever.co.za/token/?code=ABCg==&id=WP7&junk=56cc2285-a5b8-401e-be21-fec8259de6dd} - new call "UBCg==" - new response which is the same response as old call as you can see i did attach a new GUID everytime i make the call, but then the new uri is read before making the downloadstringtaskasync method call, but it returns with the old data

    I've always wondered this, and still haven't found the answer. Whenever we use "cout" or "printf" how exactly is that printed on the screen?. How does the text come out as it does...(probably quite a vague question here, ill work with whatever you give me.). So basically how are those functions made?..is it assembly?, if so where does that begin?. This brings on more questions like how on earth have they made openGl/directx functions.. break it down people break it down.:)

    How can I perform this query on whatever way: delete from sys.tables where is_ms_shipped = 0 What happened is, I executed a very large query and I forgot to put USE directive on top of it, now I got a zillion tables on my master db, and don't want to delete them one by one. UPDATE: It's a brand new database, so I don't have to care about any previous data, the final result I want to achieve is to reset the master db to factory shipping.

  • Should the PHP community start using more discriptive Exceptions?

    I work with Zend Framework a lot and I just took a peek at Kohana, and it strikes me as odd that this is a typical scenario in these frameworks: throw Some_Componenents_Exception( 'invalid argument' ); Where I believe this wouldn't be mouch more useful: throw Some_Components_InvalidArgumentException( 'whatever discription' ); Because it is easier to catch. I suspect, but immediately admit it's prejudiced, that the former practice is common in the PHP community. Should we, the PHP community, start using these descriptive types of expections more?
