Agile and Scrum burning me down please help me figuring out the truth

hi all, in the last while I installed MS-TFS 2008 then started to get myself prepared to use Agile Process Guidance template shipped with the TFS. with little googling I passed through Mike Cohn materials: I watched his conference in youtube "sponsored by google: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb9Rzyi8b90 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeT0pOVg0EI Read his book "Agile Estimating and Planning" Watching the video series in his website: http://www.mountaingoatsoftware.com/presentations-tag/video-recorded I was very happy while absorbing and eating the techniques he is using with the teams and how agile and scrum is such a great software process/methodology until I saw Mike answering a question regarding an architect role and talking about the requirements document... at that point everything start falling apart due to the following: Last year I had been assigned to make full analysis "including requirements gathering" for big project "very high priority project". within 2 months of hardwork, dedication and commitment I delivered the whole analysis with full satisfaction of the customer and my BOSS and ZERO amendments. Later on, the project entered the architecting, development ... phases. due to the fact that the system included many competitive and exciting features I requested patenting it and its going in the process... so imagine you are the kind of person who used to love facing all kind of challenges and returning with excellent experience and results for the stakeholders and yourself, How fairly agile and scrum processes will credit and admit your talent and passion while the scrum master/coach treat the team as one unit that accomplish user stories and converge through trial and error approach??!!!! with that dark thoughts about agile and scrum I found many people "anti agile" and on top of them is "Crispin Rogers Johnson": http://agile-crispin.blogspot.com/ that guy made anti statement for everything Mike Cohn used to talk about. How to fix RapidXML String ownership concerns?

RapidXML is a fast, lightweight C++ XML DOM Parser, but it has some quirks. The worst of these to my mind is this: 3.2 Ownership Of Strings. Nodes and attributes produced by RapidXml do not own their name and value strings. They merely hold the pointers to them. This means you have to be careful when setting these values manually, by using xml_base::name(const Ch *) or xml_base::value(const Ch *) functions. Care must be taken to ensure that lifetime of the string passed is at least as long as lifetime of the node/attribute. The easiest way to achieve it is to allocate the string from memory_pool owned by the document. Use memory_pool::allocate_string() function for this purpose. Now, I understand it's done this way for speed, but this feels like an car crash waiting to happen. The following code looks innocuous but 'name' and 'value' are out of scope when foo returns, so the doc is undefined. void foo() { char name[]="Name"; char value[]="Value"; doc.append_node(doc.allocate_node(node_element, name, value)); } The suggestion of using allocate_string() as per manual works, but it's so easy to forget. Has anyone 'enhanced' RapidXML to avoid this issue?

incorporate simple vimeo video request with jquery carousel

Hi, I did a tutorial for a jquery carousel that scrolls a ul. At the moment the ul is hardcoded, but I want to use a simple call to vimeo api to bring in the videos for a certain user into the carousel. I have uploaded my code here: http://www.welchcreative.co.uk/wp-content/infinitecarouselvimeo.zip My problem is that I don't know where I should put the code for the simple vimeo call, because at the moment, I think that the problem is that the vimeo videos load after the jquery stuff because it uses window.onload rather than document ready and I can't seem to work out how to put the two and two together. Ideally, 1. the code loads the vimeo videos first and puts them in a ul wiht the correct classes. 2. the carousel code then acts on the list above. in that order. I hope that isn't too vague. It's a pretty simple idea. I'm new to javascript and jquery. Thanks Andy

Firefox extension is freezing Firefox until request is completed

For some reason the function is freezing along with firefox until it fully retrieve the stream from requested site. How to hide check all, clear all checkbox

I am having check box in the column header. The function of this is to check or uncheck all the check boxes in that column.If the row check box is checked and say delete, that row can be deleted from the dataTable. If the row object is used in some other table as a foreign key i put '-' in that row instead of check box which indicates that row cannot be deletable. In these cases if all the row has '-" , there is no need to have the header check box. How to programatically hide this 'Check All | Clear All' check box, if there is nothing to be removed. It would be even preferable to hide the 'Remove' button if there is no selection to be made. What are the best practices to address the above scenario. htaccess mod_rewrite check file/directory existence, else rewrite?

I have a very heavy htaccess mod_rewrite file that runs my application. As we sometimes take over legacy websites, I sometimes need to support old urls to old files, where my application processes everything post htaccess. My ultimate goal is to have a 'Demilitarized Zone' for old file structures, and use mod rewrite to check for existence there before pushing to the application. This is pretty easy to do with files, by using: RewriteCond %{IS_SUBREQ} true RewriteRule .* - [L] RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} 200 RewriteRule .* - [L] RewriteCond Public/DMZ/$1 -F [OR] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ Public/DMZ/$1 [QSA,L] This allows pseudo support for relative urls by not hardcoding my base path (I cant assume I will ever be deployed in document root) anywhere and using subrequests to check for file existence. Works fine if you know the file name, ie http://domain.com/path/to/app/legacyfolder/index.html However, my legacy urls are typically http://domain.com/path/to/app/legacyfolder/ Mod_Rewrite will allow me to check for this by using -d, but it needs the complete path to the directory, ie RewriteCond Public/DMZ/$1 -F [OR] RewriteCond /var/www/path/to/app/Public/DMZ/$1 -d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ Public/DMZ/$1 [QSA,L] I want to avoid the hardcoded base path. I can see one possible solutions here, somehow determining my path and attaching it to a variable [E=name:var] and using it in the condition. Another option is using -U, but the tricky part is stopping it from hijacking every other request when they should flow through, since -U is really easy to satisfy. Any implementation that allows me to existence check a directory is more than welcome. I am not interested in using RewriteBase, as that requires my htaccess to have a hardcoded base path.

MVC2 and jquery.validate.js

I am experiencing some confusion with jquery.validate.js First of all, what is MicrosoftMvcJqueryValidation.js. It is referenced in snippets on the web but appears to have dissapeared from the RTM MVC2 and is now in futures. Do I need it? The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to use the validator with MVC and I can't get it to work. Getting a binary file from resource in C#

Hello, I am having a bit of a problem, I am trying to get a PDF as a resource in my application. Original Error: PDF startxref not found" When I was just opening the file via a path to the static file in my directory it worked fine. I have tried using different encodings UTF-8, UTF-32, UTF-7, ASCII, etc etc.... As a side note I had the same problem with getting a Powerpoint file as a resource, I was finally able to fix that problem by converting the Powerpoint to xml and using that. I have considered doing the same for the PDF but I am referencing elements by field name which does not seem to work with XML PDFs. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance!

Problem with Chrome - embed windows media player

Hi. I am having a problem. I embed WMP in my page, and I need to hide buttons from player. I make it to hide them in IE and FF, but I can't make it happen in Google Chrome. DataTables - Remove DataTables from HTML Table created in different JavaScript File

So I have a site I visit everyday for work. The DataTables implementation on this site is atrocious. The DataTable is applied to an HTML table that is generated when the page is rendered and then the DataTable is initialized on it. I figured this is great because I can create a little TamperMonkey script to remove the horrible DataTable and create one that functions how I need it to. The DataTable is created via inline Javascript at the end of the document body. I tried the following per the DOCs for the destory() method. // ==UserScript== // @name // @version 0.1 // @description Makes the Invoice Table more user friendly // @include URL // @require http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js // @require http://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/datatables/1.10.1/js/jquery.dataTables.min.js // @copyright 2014+, Me // ==/UserScript== $(function() { var t = $('#customer_invoices').DataTable(); t.destroy(); }); It does not "remove those enhancements and return the table to its original un-enhanced state, with the data shown in the table" as stated in the docs. It does not appear to do anything. I think it is either because the table has not been Datatable initialized yet, or that I am not able to access the original DataTable initialization in a different scope. Any help is greatly appreciated as this has me banging my head on the desk.

i am trying to do a basic column chart. i have looked the examples but not sure why i do not see any graph (lines). JAXB: How to avoid repeated namespace definition for xmlns:xsi

I have a JAXB setup where I use a @XmlJavaTypeAdapter to replace objects of type Person with objects of type PersonRef that only contains the person's UUID. This works perfectly fine. However, the generated XML redeclares the same namespace (xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance") every time it's used. While this is generally okay, it just doesn't feel right. How can I configure JAXB to declare xmlns:xsi at the very beginning of the document? Can I manually add namespace declarations to the root element? Does anyone know how I can get the values I should be sending there, and how I can make rails read it from HTTP POST rather than trying to find it as a cookie?

Fade HTML element with raw javascript

It's my second question of the day related to the same problem, so I apologize for that. I was able to put together a function to "fade out" an element, and it works just fine, my problem is that when I try to reverse it, so the element "fades in" it does not work. I've tried to change the obvious, but I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. My code so far is as follows: Given I have a "div" like so: <div id="test" style="width:200px; height:200px; display:block; opacity:1; background-color:red;"></div> The JavaScript function that I'm using to fade it out is: var getElement = document.getElementById('test'); function fadeOut(elem, speed){ if(!elem.style.opacity){ elem.style.opacity = 1; } var desvanecer = setInterval(function(){ elem.style.opacity -= .02; if(elem.style.opacity < 0){ clearInterval(desvanecer); } }, speed / 50); } fadeOut(getElement, 500); Could somebody take a look at this and let me know what I'm doing wrong, all I want to do is "FADE IN" an element to an opacity equal to "1". By the way, I can't use jQuery, however I'm eager to learn this way. Thanks

jqGrid - edit function never getting called

I'm having a problem with JQGrid using ASP.NET MVC. I'm trying to follow this example (after you go to that link, over on the left side of the page please click Live Data Manipulation, then Edit Row), but my edit function is never getting called (i.e. it's never getting into the $("#bedata").click(function(). Perform case-insensitive lookup on an Array in MongoDB?

So, I've decided to get my feet wet with MongoDB and love it so far. It seems very fast and flexible which is great. But, I'm still going through the initial learning curve and as such, I'm spending hours digging for info on the most basic things. I've search throughout the MongoDB online documentation and have spent hours Googling through pages without any mention of this. I know Mongo is still quite new (v1.x) so it explains why there isn't much information yet. I've even trying looking for books on Mongo without much luck. So yes, I've tried to RTFM with no luck, so, now I turn to you. I have an Array of various Hashtags nested in each document (ie: #apples, #oranges, #Apples, #APPLES) and I would like to perform a case-insensitive find() to access all the documents containing apples in any case. It seems that find does support some regex with /i, but I can't seem to get this working either. Anyway, I hope this is a quick answer for someone. Here's my existing call in PHP which is case sensitive: $cursor = $collection->find(array( "hashtags" => array("#".$keyword)))->sort(array('$natural' => -1))->limit(10); Help?

how to handle base tag target attribute in iphone uiwebview to open new window

When the links are supposed to open a new window, iphone uiwebview won't trigger an event when user click these links. We had to use javascript to do some trick to the target attribute of the links. I can handle 'a' tag to open in the '_self' window with the trick without problem. But when I do it the same way with the 'base' tag. it doesn't work. I believe the base target is set by the javascript. But the base tag is in the head, which may be handled by the uiwebview before my javascript executed, so the target change may not reflected in the webkit engine. Could someone please give some suggestion, so I can open the link in the same uiwebview? How to maximize a floating div width when one div is removed or hidden?

I have two div columns sidebar(left) and page-content(right). I toggle removing and adding 'sidebar' using jquery but unable to maximize '#page-content' to take up the empty space when sidebar is removed.I tried removing 'margin-left:250px;' but the #page-content is going to the bottom. In short i want Toggle before | sidebar | page-content | Toggle after | page-content | but it happens like | sidebar | | page-content | Please help. Here is the css and jquery used.
