• How can I get full filenames from Git difftool (for Microsoft Word "Compare Documents" feature)?

  I am using the latest version of Git (1.6.6) on a Mac. My wife wants to use Git to manage her fiction writing as long as she can still use Microsoft Word 2008 (Mac). Instead of pushing her into saving everything as plain text, I would like to use Git Difftool to pass the files to Word and use Word's Compare Documents feature. She wouldn't be able to use Git Diff since Word docs are binary files but she could still use Git Difftool. I have written an Applescript which takes two filenames in this format: /Users/foo/Documents/my_novel.docx and opens Word to do the file comparison. However, Git Difftool seems to only pass the bare filenames (e.g. my_novel.docx) as parameters. Is there anyway to get the full filenames from Git Difftool? Thanks, Doug

• WinHTTP and Windows 7 x64: Error

  I have an application which uses WinHTTP, and it seems under Windows 7 (64-bit; have yet to test the 32-bit version) the call to WinHttpOpen fails, returning "The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation." This corresponds to error code 5023, and occurs for the Administrator as well as a standard user. The C++ DLL containing this call was compiled using Visual Studio 2008 (32-bit) on a Windows XP Professional system. Other than Outlook 2007, this is an otherwise clean install in a VM. Thanks!

• Subsonic 3 fails to identify Stored Procedure Output Parameter

  Hi using Subsonic 3.0.0.3 it appears there is some issue with Subsonic identifying Stored Procedure paramters as output parameters. In the StoredProcedures.cs class I find my stored procedure definition but the last parameter is defined incorrectly as a 'AddParameter'. sp.Command.AddParameter("HasPermission",HasPermission,DbType.Boolean); When I sp.Execute() and attempt to read the value of the sp.Command.OutputValues[0] the value is null. If the definition is edited to be like this; sp.Command.AddOutputParameter("HasPermission", DbType.Boolean); Then the value is returned and is correct value type I am not sure how I 'fix' this - as everytime I regen the SP class via the 'Run Custom Tool' the parameter definitions require editing. Should I edit a T4 template somehow? Please advise. EDIT: I forgot to mention I am using MS SQL 2008 (10.0.2531)

Common Update 29 Dec 08 Been trying out Aaron Stebner's suggestions to place 64-bit assemblies onto an isolated location (e.g. C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\GAC_64) and creating additional entries in the registry like HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft.NETFramework\AssemblyFolders\GAC_64 or HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft.NETFramework\v2.0.50727\AssemblyFoldersEx\GAC_64 but Visual Studio 2005 is still not picking it up....

  hello all, i am working on vista, and using python 2.6.4. i am using a software which uses a python script. but then i bumped into the message "cannot find vcvarsall.bat". so i installed visual c++ 2010. still the file is not found though it is there. my guess (a very uneducated one...) is that somewhere the path is wrong, because i also have an old visual 2008 (pretty empty) folder. since i have little idea in programming i have no idea where to make the changes for the new path. do i change something in the registery or in the script. i would be happy if somebody could help (preferably in lamen terms). thanx. • Connecting TFS2008 server to Sharepoint (WSS3)

  I have recently upgraded from TFS2005 to 2008, and in doing so, lost the connection to Sharepoint so now I cannot access my project portal from VSS or TFS Web. I have a working WSS 3.0 installation on the same server as TFS, and TFS is working fine other than the Sharepoint disconnect. I have even been able to go into Sharepoint and create a site for my project. The only thing left is to find the configuration item in TFS for my project that says, "Project portal is here...". Does anyone know where I might find this setting?

  I developed a Windows service using C#.NET to generate PDF report. To generate PDF file I am using a third party dll. The application is running in my Windows XP platform. When I deployed the service in Windows Server 2008 64 bit version, I got this error: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {46521B1F-0A5B-4871-A4C2-FD5C9276F4C6} failed due to the following error: 80040154. I registered the DLL using the regsvr32 command. I able to see this CLSID in the registry. But the problem persists. What could be the problem?

  I am having a lot of trouble finding good information on how to call a standard SOAP/WSDL web service with Android. All I've been able to find are either very convoluted documents and references to "kSoap2" and then some bit about parsing it all manually with SAX. ... Ok, that's fine but it's 2008 so I figured there should be some good library for calling standard web services. The Web Service is just basically one created in NetBeans. I would like to have IDE support for generating the plumbing classes. I just need the easiest/most-elegant way to contact a WSDL based web service from an Android based phone. Thanks.

• Why is C# winforms application not working without VS.NET installed?

  Hi folks, I have a winforms c# app that has an embedded webbrowser control inside it generated through VS.NET 2008. We sink events by inheriting our events class from HTMLDocumentEvents2. public class IEHTMLDocumentEvents : mshtml.HTMLDocumentEvents2 { public bool onclick(mshtml.IHTMLEventObj pEvtObj) { // Clicking on an input (checkbox, radio, button, image) if (pEvtObj.srcElement.tagName == "INPUT") { // The following will result in a null pointer without VS.NET installed HTMLInputElementClass input = pEvtObj.srcElement as HTMLInputElementClass; } } } The code above works fine when clicking on elements in the webbrowser control on our dev machines with VS.NET installed. However it fails to cast the pEvtObj.srcElement when VS.NET is not installed. This immediately starts working when we install the most basic VS.NET with C# that you can. To note: The rest of the c# app works fine, and you can browser the web through the control fine as well, just that the events like the above 'onclick' can't be handled properly. • Delete merge history in a branch in TFS

  Suppose I have a main branch and a dev branch. Suppose I merge some stuff from dev into main. I check in the merge Now I decide "whoops, the dev branch wasn't really ready for me to merge into main yet." I want to tell TFS: remove that change set from main and forget that the merge ever happened. Rolling back the changeset is easy enough -- I can use the TFS powertools ROLLBACK command. on the Main branch (with the /changeset /recursive flags) However, I will get a warning from the rollback that the merge history for the files has not been deleted. Effect: Later, when dev is ready to be merged into main, the changes in the files that were rolled back previously are NOT merged into Main (this is because TFS "thinks" that those merges are already done. My goal: When I rollback, make TFS remove the merge history so that when I merge dev into main later on, everything merges. How can I do that? BTW: I'm using TFS 2008 SP1

• Why does Sitecore throw a NullReferenceException exception when I redirect to one of its pages?

  I'm running Sitecore 6.1 on Windows 2008, IIS7, and I'm trying to use the URL Rewrite Module to do a redirect. When I enable the rule and hit the URL that triggers it, I get a YSOD. The same rule works perfectly on a non-sitecore site on the same machine. According to the Failed Request Trace, the rewrite module does its thing just fine, but then Sitecore throws an exception, even if the redirect points to another server. This is probably a result of something I have misconfigured, but I just can't understand why it doesn't work. The details from the YSOD are below. • Visual Studio 2010 - Export Template menu option grayed out

  In Visual Studio, I want to make a simple C++ project and export it out as a template, so I can use the template to start new projects to save me time. But the Export Template menu option is always grayed out. I've not once been able to click it. Anyone know why? Anyone know how to accomplish what I need (besides the obvious "make a copy of an existing project in explorer")? It seems like project templates should be a no-brainer feature for VS. This seems to be the case for Visual Studio 2005, 2010 (I probably 2008 as well I haven't checked).

• How can the blank space in a C# comboBox be filled as a hint for the user?

  When a comboBox in C# is dynamically populated the comboBox appears blank until the user clicks on it to view the available items in the dropdown. Ideally, I would like to use this blank space (prior to clicking the dropdown) to be used to give the user a hint as to what s/he should do. For example, it might say something like, "Select such-and-such..." Is there a way to do this? I tried setting the Text property, but that didn't do anything. I am using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. Thanks.

  I have an application with a proxy class for my webservice - This works fine in all 32-bit machines. However the same app throws an exception in windows server 2008 64-bit machine. It looks like the temporary class could not be generated for the web service. The error in the event viewer is "error CS0008: Unexpected error reading metadata from file '' -- 'Bad Key.   So I have a stored procedure called Spr_EventLogCreate defined in my database. I have created a function import in my data model called LogEvent with no return type, and I can see this function in the Model Browser tree at MyModel.edmx MyModel EntityContainer Function Imports LogEvent. I thought I should then be able to call the function in my code as follows: var context = new MyModelEntities(); context.LogEvent(...); But the LogEvent() method is not present. I must be being really stupid here, but how do I call my imported function? Using VS 2008 and EF 3.5.

• Unable to launch the ASP.NET Development server because port '1900' is in use.

  I don't know what has got into my computer today. I was developing just fine in VS 2008 and testing my ASP.NET web site on my development server. Then suddenly, out of the blue, I can't run my web site any more! As soon as I hit F5, the message appears: Unable to launch the ASP.NET Development server because port '1900' is in use. And it doesn't matter what port I change to, it's always in use! AAARRRGGGHH!!! I have tried: Changing the port number Restarting Visual Studio Rebooting my machine Installing IIS Clue: My IIS refuses to start. But I didn't have IIS installed when I was happily working earlier, so that is probably not the issue; it might just be highlighting something else... Thanks in advance... Update: after rebooting, IIS does start, but the problem here persists.

  I am currently gathering some technology requirements for a site that will be a social network based. I don't want to re-invent the wheel so i am looking for some type of SDK or collection of tools that can provide me with a way of creating/managing a social network. I understand that no framework will probably fit my exact needs so I am also looking for a flexible/extensible framework. An example extension point would be allowing the user to provide sub networks, maybe a global network that could be sub classified as work and friends. Beyond that it would also be nice to somehow be able to import contacts from other networking sites (Facebook, Linked In, etc). My current technology suite will more than likely consist of the following: IIS 7.0 WCF Data Services SQL Server 2005/2008 ASP.NET front end. So my two questions are 1) C# Open Source Social Network SDK 2) C# Open Source Social Netowrk APIs (facebook, linked in, etc) If there is any more information you may need please let me know.

  If I have the following master-detail relationship: owner_tbl auto_tbl --------- -------- owner --- owner auto year And I have the following table data: owner_tbl auto_tbl --------- -------- john john, corvette, 1968 john, prius, 2008 james james, f-150, 2004 james, cadillac, 2002 james, accord, 2009 jeff jeff, tesla, 2010 jeff, hyundai, 1996 Now, I want to perform a query that returns the following result: john, corvette, 1968 jeff, hyundai, 1996 james, cadillac, 2002 The query should join the two tables, and sort all the records on the "year" field, but only return the first detail record for each master record. I know how to join the tables and sort on the "year" field, but it's not clear how (or if) I might be able to only retrieve the first joined record for each owner. Three related questions: Can I perform this kind of query using LINQ-to-SQL? Can I perform the query using T-SQL? Would it be best to just create a stored procedure for the query given its likely complexity?

  I need to read the location of the Temporary ASP.NET Files folder from VBScript as part of a post-installation task in an installer created using a Visual Studio 2008 deployment project. I thought I would do something like this: Set oShell = CreateObject("Wscript.Shell") strPath = oShell.RegRead("HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ASP.NET\2.0.50727.0\Path") and then concatenate strPath with "\Temporary ASP.NET Files" and be done with it. On an x64 system, however, I am getting the value from the WOW6432Node (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ASP.NET\2.0.50727.0), which gives me the 32-bit framework path (C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727), but on an x64 system, I actually want the 64-bit path, i.e. C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727. I understand that this happens because the .vbs file is run using the 32-bit script host due to the parent process (the installer) being 32-bit itself. How can I run the script using the 64-bit script host - or - how can I read the 64-bit values even if the script is run using the 32-bit script host?

• Data refresh and drill down problem with SSAS cube and excel services

  I have a SSAS cube which I am using in an excel document, prepare a report which has drill-down etc and i am publishing it to a sharepoint site. It gets published alright but when I try to drill down it throws an error "Data Refresh failed" etc.The data source and the sharpoint site are on the same machine(running windows server 2008) and we have windows authentication running. From what I have been able to find on the internet there is a problem with passing the windows authentication credentials to the database etc.But I have not been able to find the exact way to sort out these problem. What is the solution for this????

• I have a error building a .vdproj on msbuild with nant

  I'm getting used to using nant for build releases. But I have started to use asp.net MVC, and i choice make the setup for installation with a .vdproj . But, when I call the: < exec program="${dotnet.dir}/msbuild.exe" commandline='"./Wum.sln" /v:q /nologo /p:Configuration=Release' / in nant, my result is: [exec] D:\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\Wum\Wum.sln : warning MS B4078: The project file "Wum.Setup\Wum.Setup.vdproj" is not supported by MSBuild and cannot be built. Someone have some clue, or a solution? If I use the devenv, I'll have a problem? Thanks in advance.
