    Now this is weird. Copied a chunk of a text from somewhere into clipboard. Ran mvim from a tmux buffer. Opened a file in MacVim. Pasted the text. MacVim results with the error: E353: Nothing to register + Nothing gets pasted. The plot thickens: I try to copy this error -- paste fails. I go over the same steps, this time running MacVim from a regular Terminal window (without tmux) -- Everything is in its right place. Whaa?

    How does FTP servers normaly handle rename to a file that aready exist? That is, will the existing to-file be overwritten or will I get an error? Is there some specification about how FTP servers should handle this, or is it OS or implementation dependent? vsftpd on Linux seems to overwrite, with FileZilla on Vista I get 550 file exists...

  • Safari MAC proxy bypass for IPv6

    I'm a first-time n00b on Mac ; (but have been doing computers since before PC's). This Mac has 2 VLANs, vlan0 in IPv4, vlan1 in IPv6. Safari can surf via IPv4 squid proxy OK. Safari can surf via IPv6 natively, if I switch off the proxy, OK. How do I set up the Settings - Network - Interface - Advanced - Proxies to "bypass" IPv6 ? Current Settings include variations along the lines of ... "*.local, 10.0.0.0/8, 192.168.0.0/16, 172.16.0.0/12 , ::, ipv6 " but don't work as expected. I want Safari to go out on its own with IPv6, not crash at the proxy with "malformed URL" Thanks, //rhi

  • Setting up a proxy for FTP - Windows

    Hi folks, I have 2 windows machines and a server. 1 is my laptop, the other is a workstation that the IP of which is white-listed on the server. The laptop has a dynamic IP, so the IP cannot be white-listed. I would like to be able to perform FTP transfers from my laptop to the server, while using the workstation as a proxy. Both machines are using Windows 7. Is this possible? Help would be amazing!

  • Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0.10: Messages are being sent back to me

    When I send an email and I get a response, more often than not, in the To: is my email address. However, my email address also ends up in the From: column.The reply-from address is nowhere to be found;so I don't have any address with which I can send my reply, as both of them have just my email address. What am I doing wrong here? Is there some set-up in my Tools Options which is incorrect? The set-up in Options is pretty difficult to understand and it doesn't offer any to or reply-from choices. This is critical because I just cannot answer my emails because there is no one I can send a reply to.

  • Installing TKInter for Python 2.6.5

    Well today's been a bit of shock. After running port -v selfupdate followed by an attempt to run sudo port install py26-ipython MacPorts went around installing a whole host of stuff, including updating my Python from 2.6.4 to 2.6.5. It's nice but unexpected in a creepy way. So I tried to install TKInter using MacPorts with port search tkinter yielding: py-tkinter @2.4.6 (python, graphics) Python bindings to the Tk widget set py25-tkinter @2.5.4 (python, graphics) This is a stub. tkinter is now built with python25 Found 2 ports. So I tried sudo port install py25-tkinter and then it tries to install Python 2.5.5. There must be an easier way to install TkInter without being faffed around... help please?

  • how to properly set environment variables

    I've recently started using Windows (having used Ubuntu up until now) and I find myself unable to properly set environment variables. Whenever I set them they don't seem to work. I've been going to Start-Edit Environment Variables for your Account and editing the PATH value in the upper half of the GUI. Here's what I've got so far. ;C:\Chocolatey\bin;C:\tools\mysql\current\bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\bin;C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\bin\;C:\Python33\Scripts; These are each the parent directories of the executables I'd like to be able to run by name from CMD, but mysql, git, and pip aren't being recognized. Am I doing something wrong syntactically or at a general understanding level? I'd like to be able to run these commands without having to specify the full path to the executables every time.     I'm currently setting up a home-server using a Raspberry Pi with an external hard-disk connected via usb. However, my hard-drive will never spin down when being idle. Specifically, I’d like a to open a MS Word document and have my citation manager open simultaneously (EndNote supports this function within MS Word preferences, but I recently switched citation managers).   • How do you automatically close 3rd party applications when LiberKey is shut down?

    Within LiberKey, I have added my own portable applications that are not included within the LiberKey library. When you go into the Properties menu for the app in the LiberKey UI, the Advanced tab has an option for Autoexecute. This dropdown menu seems to have no visible effect, at least on my current installation. I found that I could right click within the primary GUI and select "Add software group", add all 3rd party applications, then go to the Advanced tab within THAT Properties screen and select Autoexecute - "Always on startup". This solved the problem for starting the apps when LiberKey starts. However, now I'm having the same issue when closing out LiberKey. I have created a new 3rd party app that calls the same .exe, but sends the Parameter "/close". I then went to the Advanced tab and selected Autoexecute - "Always on shutdown". Seems pretty logical right? But the apps will not close on LiberKey shutdown. I cannot handle the app close-outs in the same way with a software group, as I did with the startup issue because the Autoexecute drop-down does not have an "Always on shutdown" option. Unfortunately, many of the Q&A forums on liberkey.com are in French and I took Spanish in high school. Otherwise I've not been able to find a workable answer. Any suggestions?

  • Feedback on Using ZFS and FreeBSD

    I need to create a server that will be used solely for backing up files. The server will have 2TB of storage to begin with but I may want to add additional storage later on. As such, I am currently considering using FreeBSD + ZFS as the OS and file system. Is ZFS a reliable, trusted file system? Should I use it in this scenario? I have read that ZFS should be used with OpenSolaris over FreeBSD as OpenSolaris is usually ahead of the curve with ZFS as far as version updates and stability. However, I am not interested in using OpenSolaris for this project. An alternative option that I am considering is to stick with ext3 and create multiple volumes if need be, because I know that I will not need a single, continuous volume larger than 2TB.   • Excel: ROUND & MOD giving me strange DATE results

    This is sort of related to a previous question. My formula, which seemed to work fine yesterday now gives strange results. Today is the 30th of March (30/03/10). It's 10:11am on the clock that the computer is using for the time stamp in the NOW() part of my worksheet. Below is the formula and a screen shot of the results/columns. QUESTION: Why ddoes it show 1/2 day, and also where does 23 1/2 come from? The NOW() is in a hidden column (F2)...which I forgot to unhide before I took the screen shot. =IF(ISBLANK(I2),ROUND(MOD(H2-F2,24),2),ROUND(MOD(I2-F2,24),2)) Thanks Mike

If evrouter requires xserver to be up, how do I get init to wait until after xserver starts to run this script? If xserver restarts will this script run automatically? Running this with sudo services evrouter start still results in this error, can init.d scripts not tell where my display is? (Not exactly familiar with init, runlevels, etc)

    I'm pretty sure the options consist of Just don't do it (use a nice open standard file format). Not great when someone sends you something. Translate the format on Windows. I think you need Publisher, the viewer won't even print. But you can download a trial version for a once off (been there, done that). Submit the file for online translation to PDF. www.pdfonline.com/convert-pdf/ Use a Windows VM, wine, crossover office, Win4Lin, or otherwise run Publisher "under" linux. What I really want to do is convert it to something nicer natively under Linux.

  • DVD Drive Failing on Windows 7

    I have x64 Windows 7 running on an ASUS M50VM. The DVD drive works completely unreliably if not at all. But the story is not that simple so bear with me...here are the gory details. When I first got the machine it came with Windows XP and I upgraded it to Windows Vista X64 and the DVD worked fine. When Windows 7 RC2 came out I tried it on a Virtual Machine and I liked it so much that I upgraded the machine to Win7 RC1. The DVD worked fine. Of course, RC1 was going to start spontaneously rebooting, so when Windows 7 was released I DID A CLEAN INSTALL of Windows 7. Just to clarify...by clean install I mean I did a FORMAT of the HARD DRIVE and INSTALLED it from scratch. EVER since then the DVD mostly doesn't work. I can sometime read from disk but that will often hang. (Please see my description below of HANG for details.) CD or DVD writes ALWAYS fail with a HANG (I have done a successful write only one time.) Here is what I mean by HANG... *Explorer Window is unresponsive. *Any software accessing the DVD drive is unresponsive. *The DVD tray will not eject. *Using a paper clip will eject but the disk is usually spinning real hard. *Attempting to shut down windows will fail. I have waited as long as ten minutes but the whole OS seems to hang. I do a hard shutdown. *Sometimes accessing the DVD (when it does not cause a HANG) will still fail and the device will actually seem to disappear from the system until I reboot. A couple of other things. It is NOT a hardware failure. It is the Windows OS. I know this because I swapped out my DVD drive with a friend with the same model...his machine is fine (he is still running Vista X64) and my machine still fails. For what it is worth. I swapped out my primary disk with the INTEL 160GB SSD.   • How can I apply a DSP to my microphone in windows?

    I'd like to be able to run my microphone through arbitrary DSP filters--Mostly for compression and amplification, but also noise cancelation would be nice. I'd then like to take that output and put it back in a virtual audio device that I could use as input for skype, mumble, teamspeak, or any other VOIP program. With a program like Virtual Audio cable, I can do the 'fake devices' part but as far as I know it does not allow any kind of filtering inline. Does a program like this exist? Or some combination of programs that can be combined to accomplish this?

  • Linux DD command partition -to- partition

    I just used the DD command to copy the contents of one partition over to another partition on another drive, like this: dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sdb2 bs=4096 conv=noerror sda2 partition was 66GB and sdb2 was 250GB. I read that by doing this the extra space on the drive I am copying to will be wasted, is this true? I wasn't worried about loosing the extra space for the time being however, I just ran: sudo kill -USR1 (PID) to view the current status of DD and it has written over 66GB of data, will it continue to write data until it gets to 250GB? If so, is there a way to stop the process without corrupting it as waiting for it to write blank space seems like a waste of time.
