  • Is release without prior retain dangerous?

    - by BankStrong
    I have some code which I think has extra release statements. Is the code incorrect? What is the end result? I don't understand memory management well yet - even after reading lots of articles and stackoverflow answers. Thanks for straightening me out. NSMutableArray *points = [NSMutableArray new]; for (Segment *s in currentWorkout.segments) { [points addObjectsFromArray:[s.track locationPoints]]; } [routeMap update:points]; [points release];

  • Two PickerViews in save View issue?

    - by NextRev
    I'm trying to have 2 pickerviews in the same view. It works except for two things. If one pickerview has more rows than the other the app crashes when picking an item from the pickerview with more items. Also I created an NSLog for the pickerviews and the console shows that I'm picking two items at once when in fact i'm only dealing with one pickerview. I know it sounds a bit confusing but I'm including all the code. Thank you in advance. list and list2 are NSMutableArrays list has 4 items list2 has 5 items There error: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '* -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (4) beyond bounds (4)' -(NSInteger)numberOfComponentsInPickerView:(UIPickerView *)thePickerView{ if([thePickerView isEqual:pickerView1 ]){ return 1; } else if([thePickerView isEqual:pickerView2]){ return 1; } else{ return 0; } } -(NSInteger)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)thePickerView numberOfRowsInComponent:(NSInteger)component{ if([thePickerView isEqual:pickerView1 ]){ return [list count]; } else if([thePickerView isEqual:pickerView2]){ return [list2 count]; } else{ return 0; } } -(NSString *)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)thePickerView titleForRow:(NSInteger)row forComponent:(NSInteger)component{ if([thePickerView isEqual:pickerView1 ]){ return [list objectAtIndex:row]; } else if([thePickerView isEqual:pickerView2]){ return [list2 objectAtIndex:row]; } else{ return 0; } } - (void)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)thePickerView didSelectRow:(NSInteger)row inComponent:(NSInteger)component { NSLog(@"Selected item %@. • UIPageControl bug: showing one bullet first and then showing everything

    - by user313551
    I have some strange behavior using a UIPageControl: First it appears showing only one bullet, then when I move the scroll view all the bullets appear correctly. Is there something I'm missing before I add it as a subview? Here is my code imageScrollView.h : @interface ImageScrollView : UIView <UIScrollViewDelegate> { NSMutableDictionary *photos; BOOL *pageControlIsChangingPage; UIPageControl *pageControl; } @property (nonatomic, copy) NSMutableDictionary *photos; @property (nonatomic, copy) UIPageControl *pageControl; @end Here is the code for imageScrollView.m: #import "ImageScrollView.h" @implementation ImageScrollView @synthesize photos, pageControl; - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { if ((self = [super initWithFrame:frame])) { // Initialization code NSLog(@"%@",pageControl); } return self; } - (void) drawRect:(CGRect)rect { [self removeAllSubviews]; UIScrollView *scroller = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,self.frame.size.width,self.frame.size.height)]; [scroller setDelegate:self]; [scroller setBackgroundColor:[UIColor grayColor]]; [scroller setShowsHorizontalScrollIndicator:NO]; [scroller setPagingEnabled:YES]; NSUInteger nimages = 0; CGFloat cx= 0; for (NSDictionary *myDictionaryObject in photos) { if (![myDictionaryObject isKindOfClass:[NSNull class]]) { NSString *photo =[NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://www.techbase.com.mx/blog/%@", [myDictionaryObject objectForKey:@"filepath"]]; NSDictionary *data = [myDictionaryObject objectForKey:@"data"]; UIView *imageContainer = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, self.frame.size.width, self.frame.size.height - 30)]; TTImageView *imageView = [[TTImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, self.frame.size.width, self.frame.size.height - 30)]; imageView.urlPath=photo; [imageContainer addSubview:imageView]; UILabel *caption = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,imageView.frame.size.height,imageView.frame.size.width,10)]; [caption setText:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",[data objectForKey:@"description"]]]; [caption setBackgroundColor:[UIColor grayColor]]; [caption setTextColor:[UIColor whiteColor]]; [caption setLineBreakMode:UILineBreakModeWordWrap]; [caption setNumberOfLines:0]; [caption sizeToFit]; [caption setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:@"Georgia" size:10.0]]; [imageContainer addSubview:caption]; CGRect rect = imageContainer.frame; rect.size.height = imageContainer.size.height; rect.size.width = imageContainer.size.width; rect.origin.x = ((scroller.frame.size.width - scroller.size.width) / 2) + cx; rect.origin.y = ((scroller.frame.size.height - scroller.size.height) / 2); imageContainer.frame=rect; [scroller addSubview:imageContainer]; [imageView release]; [imageContainer release]; [caption release]; nimages++; cx +=scroller.frame.size.width; } } [scroller setContentSize:CGSizeMake(nimages * self.frame.size.width, self.frame.size.height)]; [self addSubview:scroller]; pageControl = [[UIPageControl alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(self.frame.size.width/2, self.frame.size.height -20, (self.frame.size.width/nimages)/2, 20)]; pageControl.numberOfPages=nimages; [self addSubview:pageControl]; [scroller release]; } -(void)dealloc { [pageControl release]; [super dealloc]; } -(void)scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)_scrollView{ if(pageControlIsChangingPage){ return; } CGFloat pageWidth = _scrollView.frame.size.width; int page = floor((_scrollView.contentOffset.x - pageWidth /2) / pageWidth) + 1; pageControl.currentPage = page; } -(void)scrollViewDidEndDecelerating:(UIScrollView *)_scrollView{ pageControlIsChangingPage = NO; } @end

  • As-You-Type-Searching with Core Data / NSFetchedResultsController

    - by Snej
    I implemented an as-you-type-searching (text search on single attribute) by fetching with performFetch: after each given character by the user. The performFetch: is running in a background thread to avoid keyboard freezes. But while typing many useless fetches are started. A NSOperationQueue might be an option, but I wonder if there are other approaches for this quite usual search behavior. What's best practice to notice when fetching is done and the table view is updated with the previous fetch to start a new fetch?

  • Passing a string representing my format specifier into stringWithFormat and seeing issues

    - by Jeff
    If I call "[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Testing \n %@",variableString]"; I get what I would expect, which is Testing, followed by a new line, then the contents of variableString. However, if i try NSString *testString = @"Testing \n %@"; //forgive shorthand here [NSString stringWithFormat,testString,variableString] the output actually literally writes \n to the screen instead of a newline. any workaround to this? seems odd to me

  • Implementation of Nib project to Storyboard, Xcode

    - by Blake Loizides
    I have made a tabbed bar application in storyboard in xcode. I,m new to xcode. I got a Sample TableView XIB project from apple that I edited to my needs,The project has a UITableView that I Customized with Images, And with help of a certain forum member I was able to link up each image to a New View Controller. I tried to port or integrate My Nib Project Code to my StoryBoard Tabbed Bar Application.I thought I had everything right had to comment out a few things to get no errors, But the project only goes to a Blank Table View. Below are 2 links, 1 to my StoryBoard Tabbed Bar Application with the Table Code that I tried to integrate and the other My Successful Nib Project. Also is some code and pictures. If anybody has some free time and does not mind to help I would be extremely grateful for any input given. link1 - Storyboard link2 - XIB DecorsViewController_iPhone.m // // TableViewsViewController.m // TableViews // // Created by Axit Patel on 9/2/10. // Copyright Bayside High School 2010. • How to restrict rightBarButtonItem size in UINavigationBar ?

    I create a rightBarButtonItem with this method : - (UIBarButtonItem *)customBarButtonWithSelector:(SEL)callback { UIButton *customButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; customButton.bounds = CGRectMake(0, 0, 30.0f, 30.0f); return [[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:customButton] autorelease]; } At execution time the selector is fired when the bar is touched outside the button (near the middle). Is there a way to restrict the event responder in the defined bounds or in a acceptable range ?

  • Unable to use NSURLConnection to get contents of password/username protected webpage

    - by bubster
    I am trying to get the contents of a webpage that requires a password and user name to access. I am using a NSURLConnection object to get it however when I write the NSMutableData object that is returned to a file all I get is the login page. Normally when you try to load the password protected page when you are not logged in it redirects to the login page however I thought that if I provided valid credentials then this I would be able to view the password protected page. Also I do not know if it is relevant the website is using a microsoft mysql database on an IIS (internet information server). Note: [protectionSpace authenticationMethod] returns NSURLAuthenticationMethodServerTrust I am pretty unfamiliar with this so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Below is all of the relevant code: - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveResponse:(NSURLResponse *)response { // This method is called when the server has determined that it // has enough information to create the NSURLResponse. // It can be called multiple times, for example in the case of a // redirect, so each time we reset the data. // receivedData is an instance variable declared elsewhere. [receivedData setLength:0]; } - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data { // Append the new data to receivedData. // receivedData is an instance variable declared elsewhere. [receivedData appendData:data]; } - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)error { // release the connection, and the data object //[connection release]; // receivedData is declared as a method instance elsewhere //[receivedData release]; // inform the user NSLog(@"Connection failed! Error - %@ %@", [error localizedDescription], [[error userInfo] objectForKey:NSURLErrorFailingURLStringErrorKey]); } - (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { // do something with the data // receivedData is declared as a method instance elsewhere NSLog(@"Succeeded! The authentication method is %@", [protectionSpace authenticationMethod]); secureTrustReference = [protectionSpace serverTrust]; //SecTrustResultType *result; //OSStatus status = SecTrustEvaluate(secureTrustReference, result); //NSLog(@"Result of the trust evaluation is %@",status); return YES; } - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveAuthenticationChallenge:(NSURLAuthenticationChallenge *)challenge { NSURLCredential *newCredential; newCredential = [NSURLCredential credentialWithUser:@"username" password:@"password" persistence:NSURLCredentialPersistenceForSession]; newCredential = [NSURLCredential credentialForTrust:secureTrustReference]; // [[challenge sender] useCredential:newCredential forAuthenticationChallenge:challenge]; // [[challenge sender] continueWithoutCredentialForAuthenticationChallenge:challenge]; } #pragma mark - View lifecycle - (void)viewDidLoad { receivedData = [[NSMutableData alloc] init]; [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. // Create the request. • button inside table view cell shows highlighted state on tapping on cell

    - by Vivek Dandage
    Hi there! I have an issue with the background image of button which is dependent of button state. I have a button inside customized table view cell and i have set different images for button's different states. Please look into the code below. [btnNow setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"now_norm.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [btnNow setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"now_focus.png"] forState:UIControlStateHighlighted]; Whenever i tap on the actual button this works great but if i tap on area outside of button but which is still inside that same cell then this button changes its background image from UIControlStateNormal to UIControlStateHighlighted. If i remove background image from UIControlStateHighlighted state then this issue doesn't exists but i need pressed state of the button. Please help me out. Thanks in advance! Vivek Dandage.

  • Quartz 2D's drawing text and NSTimer in custom method

    - by coure06
    i want to show text using quartz 2d. Text will be drawing randomly on different position after each 1 seconds. I am not sure how i can use NSTimer with quartz 2D text. I can draw text in drawRect method where graphics context is already available. How i will draw text using my custom method myDraw which will be called after 1 second using NSTimer? If i create my custom Method the graphics context is not available in that method.

  • Obtaining touch location for a uiscrollview touch

    - by LOSnively
    I have a uiscrollview as an element of a uiscrollviewcontroller, along with other view objects. The image scrolls and zooms as expected, when the scrollView is the top subview. However, I also need to get the screen location of the touch, in particular when there is no scroll action. (I understand the location may change during a scroll, but that's not important.) I haven't found a way to do that. In the scrollviewcontroller implementation I have customized all of the standard methods that should do this: "touchesShouldBegin...", "touchesBegan:...", "touchesEnded:...", and so on. As far as I can tell, none of these are being called during a touch event when the scrollView is the top subview. I've tried setting the delayContentTouches property to both YES and NO, and that doesn't seem to make a difference. As an alternative, I've tried putting a UIView as the top subview and then tried passing the touches to the now underlying scrollView. In this configuration, the standard methods are called and I can get the touch location, but I haven't found a mechanism for the touches to be passed to the scrollView so scrolling occurs. Doing something like sending the touch messages to the specific scrollView, or to "super" or just sending them to nextResponder doesn't do it. It seems I can make the scroll work or find the location of the touch but not both, depending on what the "top" subview is. I suspect this is trivial, but after two weeks of struggling, it's time to eat my embarrassment for not being able to do this seemingly simplest of things. I've read all of the related questions here on stackoverflow, tried most if not all of the suggestions, and so far, nothing has worked. I've looked through the various links and references suggested by the answers, including Apple's documentation, but none have pointed out the gap in my understanding. Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • How do you delete rows from UITableView?

    - by James
    This has been bugging me for hours now and i have not been able to figure it out. I am importing data into a tableview using core data and NSMutableArray. As shown below. CORE DATA ARRAY NSMutableArray *mutableFetchResults = [CoreDataHelper getObjectsFromContext:@"Spot" :@"Name" :YES :managedObjectContext]; self.entityArray = mutableFetchResults; TABLE VIEW - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSManagedObject *object = (NSManagedObject *)[entityArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } NSString *lat1 = [object valueForKey:@"Email"]; //NSLog(@"Current Spot Latitude:%@",lat1); float lat2 = [lat1 floatValue]; //NSLog(@"Current Spot Latitude Float:%g", lat2); NSString *long1 = [object valueForKey:@"Description"]; //NSLog(@"Current Spot Longitude:%@",long1); float long2 = [long1 floatValue]; //NSLog(@"Current Spot Longitude Float:%g", long2); //Getting current location from NSDictionary CoreDataTestAppDelegate *appDelegate = (CoreDataTestAppDelegate *) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSString *locLat = [NSString stringWithFormat:appDelegate.latitude]; float locLat2 = [locLat floatValue]; //NSLog(@"Lat: %g",locLat2); NSString *locLong = [NSString stringWithFormat:appDelegate.longitude]; float locLong2 = [locLong floatValue]; //NSLog(@"Long: %g",locLong2); //Distance Shizzle //Prime's Location CLLocation *loc1 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:lat2 longitude:long2]; //Home Location CLLocation *loc2 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:locLat2 longitude:locLong2]; double distance = [loc1 getDistanceFrom: loc2] / 1000; int myInt = (int)(distance + (distance>0 ? 0.5 : -0.5)); //NSLog(@"INT VAL :%i", myInt); NSMutableString* converted = [NSMutableString stringWithFormat:@"%.1f", distance]; [converted appendString: @" Km"]; //NSLog(@"Distance between Prime and home = %g", converted); if (myInt < 11) { cell.textLabel.text = [object valueForKey:@"Name"]; cell.detailTextLabel.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:converted]; } else { } // Configure the cell... return cell; } I am trying to get the table only to display results that are within a certain distance. This method here works apart from the fact that the results over a certain distance are still in the table, they are just not graphically visible. I am led to believe that i have to carry out the filtering process before the formatting the table but i can not seem to do this. Please help. My xcode skills are not brilliant so code suggestions would be helpfull.

  • Storing high precision latitude/longitude numbers in iOS Core Data

    - by Bryan
    I'm trying to store Latitude/Longitudes in core data. These end up being anywhere from 6-20 digit precision. And for whatever reason, i had them as floats in Core Data, its rounding them and not giving me the exact values back. I tried "decimal" type, with no luck either. Are NSStrings my only other option? EDIT NSManagedObject: @interface Event : NSManagedObject { } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSDecimalNumber * dec; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSDate * timeStamp; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * flo; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * doub; Here's the code for a sample number that I store into core data: NSNumber *n = [NSDecimalNumber decimalNumberWithString:@"-97.12345678901234567890123456789"]; Code to access it again: NSNumber *n = [managedObject valueForKey:@"dec"]; NSNumber *f = [managedObject valueForKey:@"flo"]; NSNumber *d = [managedObject valueForKey:@"doub"]; Printed values: Printing description of n: -97.1234567890124 Printing description of f: <CFNumber 0x603f250 [0xfef3e0]>{value = -97.12345678901235146441, type = kCFNumberFloat64Type} Printing description of d: <CFNumber 0x6040310 [0xfef3e0]>{value = -97.12345678901235146441, type = kCFNumberFloat64Type}

    I run the TTCatalog application from the Three20 library and encountered this error when click on the "Photo Thumbnails" of the "Three20 Catalog": TTDASSERT failed: _cacheKey == request.cacheKey I look at the breakpoint and see that it is on line 119 of TTRequestLoader.m of the method addRequest. I know that it failed to do the assertion of the cacheKey, but why this error appears even on the sample application, does anyone encounter the same error? What is the workaround of this? Thanks, P/S: I downloaded the Three20 from the git directory just yesterday. So I assume this be the newest one.

  • How to remove animation glitch ?

    Hi all , I am downloading and then parsing some data on separate thread and then updating my ui on main thread with the following code but in this scenario I am getting animation "glitch" . • Show UIAlertView that is same as UIRemoteNotification when app is running in foreground

    - by Sidwyn Koh
    I understand that we can handle push notifications via the method: - (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didReceiveRemoteNotification:(NSDictionary *)userInfo and we can check if the app was running in the foreground: if (application.applicationState == UIApplicationStateActive ) { ... } How do we show the exact same notification with localisation? NSString *message = [[[userInfo valueForKey:@"aps"] valueForKey:@"alert"] valueForKey:@"loc-key"]; NSString *trueMessage = NSLocalizedString(message, nil); UIAlertView *alertView = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Alert" message:trueMessage cancelButtonItem:@"OK" otherButtonItems:@"Show", nil]; [alertView show]; This shows the raw unlocalized text, e.g. "You have a new alert from %1@ on %2@." My question is, how can we place the loc-args inside the UIAlertView as well, when the app is running in the foreground?

  • MVC model flow?

    - by fuzzygoat
    I am setting up an application using the MVC model and I have a query regrading the flow of information from the UI to the data model. What I need to do is place data from the UI in the model, what I have done is write a method in the view which collects the required data in an object and then passes it to the model. The model then takes ownership of the data so that the view can release its ownership. Does this sound sensible?

    Finally been making it through Apple's (rather dismal) documentation on the new UIActivityViewController class and the UIActivityItemSource protocol, and I'm trying to send different data sets to different actions called from the activity view. To simplify things, I'm looking at two things. A Facebook posting action, which should say "Check this out!" and also attach a URL to the post (with that cute little paperclip). A Twitter posting action, which should say "Check this out, with #hashtag!" and also attach that same URL (with the same paperclip). Here's the code I've got implemented right now. - (id)activityViewController:(UIActivityViewController *)activityViewController itemForActivityType:(NSString *)activityType { if ([activityType isEqualToString:UIActivityTypePostToFacebook]) { return @"Check this out!"; } else if ([activityType isEqualToString:UIActivityTypePostToTwitter]) { return @"Check this out, with #hashtag!"; } return @""; } - (id)activityViewControllerPlaceholderItem:(UIActivityViewController *)activityViewController { return @""; } And then when I set up this activity view controller (it's in the same class), this is what I do. UIActivityViewController *activityView = [[UIActivityViewController alloc] initWithActivityItems:@[self] applicationActivities:nil]; [self presentViewController:activityView animated:YES completion:nil]; My dilemma is how to attach that NSURL object. It's relatively easy when calling the iOS 6 SL-class posting modals; you just call the individual methods to attach a URL or an image. How would I go about doing this here? I'll note that instead of returning NSString objects from -activityViewController:itemForActivityType, if I return just NSURL objects, they show up with that paperclip, with no body text in the post. If I return an array of those two items, nothing shows up at all.

  • Why isn't my UITableView appearing in the correct scroll position?

    - by zbrimhall
    I have a split view-based app that presents a master-detail interface, and uses a popover to present the master list when in portrait mode. The popover presents a sectioned table view that ultimately gets populated by a subclass of NSFetchedResultsController. I can tap the tool bar button to present the master list, scroll to whatever row, and tap the row to dismiss the popover. My problem is that if the table is scrolled past the top of the second section, when I dismiss the popover and then later tap the toolbar button to re-present it, the table's scroll position is always set such that the first row of the second section is at the top of the list. If I haven't scrolled past the top of the second section, it correctly remembers its scroll position when the table is presented again. Similarly, in landscape mode, if I scroll the table past the top of the third section and then rotate to portrait, when I come back to landscape the scroll position is always set such that the first row of the third section is at the top of the list. I tried calling -scrollToNearestSelectedRowAtScrollPosition:animated in both the master view controller's -viewWillAppear, as well as in the split view delegate's splitViewController:popoverController:willPresentViewController:, to no effect. Anybody have a clue what I might be doing wrong?
