  • Asp.net mvc, view with multiple updatable parts - how?

    - by DerDres
I have started doing asp.net mvc programming and like it more everyday. Most of the examples I have seen use separate views for viewing and editing details of a specific entity. E.g. - table of music albums linking to separate 'detail' and 'update' views [Action] | Title | Artist detail, update | Uuuh Baby | Barry White detail, update | Mr Mojo | Barry White With mvc how can I achieve a design where the R and the U (CRUD) are represented in a single view, and furthermore where the user can edit separate parts of the view, thus limiting the amount of data the user can edit before saving? Example mockup - editing album detials: I have achieved such a design with ajax calls, but Im curious how to do this without ajax. Parts of my own take on this can be seen below. I use a flag (enum EditCode) indicating which part of the view, if any, that has to render a form. Is such a design in accordance with the framework, could it be done more elegantly? AlbumController public class AlbumController : Controller { public ActionResult Index() { var albumDetails = from ManageVM in state.AlbumState.ToList() select ManageVM.Value.Detail; return View(albumDetails); } public ActionResult Manage(int albumId, EditCode editCode) { (state.AlbumState[albumId] as ManageVM).EditCode = (EditCode)editCode; ViewData["albumId"] = albumId; return View(state.AlbumState[albumId]); } [HttpGet] public ActionResult Edit(int albumId, EditCode editCode) { return RedirectToAction("Manage", new { albumId = albumId, editCode = editCode }); } // edit album details [HttpPost] public ActionResult EditDetail(int albumId, Detail details) { (state.AlbumState[albumId] as ManageVM).Detail = details; return RedirectToAction("Manage", new { albumId = albumId, editCode = EditCode.NoEdit });// zero being standard } // edit album thought [HttpPost] public ActionResult EditThoughts(int albumId, List<Thought> thoughts) { (state.AlbumState[albumId] as ManageVM).Thoughts = thoughts; return RedirectToAction("Manage", new { albumId = albumId, editCode = EditCode.NoEdit });// zero being standard } Flag - EditCode public enum EditCode { NoEdit, Details, Genres, Thoughts } Mangae view <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<MvcApplication1.Controllers.ManageVM>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> Manage </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>Manage</h2> <% if(Model.EditCode == MvcApplication1.Controllers.EditCode.Details) {%> <% Html.RenderPartial("_EditDetails", Model.Detail); %> <% }else{%> <% Html.RenderPartial("_ShowDetails", Model.Detail); %> <% } %> <hr /> <% if(Model.EditCode == MvcApplication1.Controllers.EditCode.Thoughts) {%> <% Html.RenderPartial("_EditThoughts", Model.Thoughts); %> <% }else{%> <% Html.RenderPartial("_ShowThoughts", Model.Thoughts); %> <% } %>

  • VSTO and Office 2010

    - by rip
Does VSTO 2008 work for Office 2010 or will it only be VSTO 2010? If it is VSTO 2010 then does this mean that I have to update all my clients to .NET 4.0?

  • Microsoft Chart control converts \n in file names to newline characters.

    - by xpda
I am using a Microsoft Chart control (system.windows.forms.datavisualization.charting.chart) in a Windows forms application, vb.net 2008. I use folder paths for the x values in a pie chart. Chart control converts a name like c:\newfolder into c:[newline]ewfolder. I tried adding a slash, making it c:\\newfolder, but this only changes it to c:\[newline]ewfolder. Is there a workaround for this behavior?

  • Friend WithEvents in VB vs private in C#

    - by serhio
Hello, friends Who knows, why in vb.net WinForm projects the designer by default use the Friend WithEvents attributes and in C# - private ones. By ex, in a form.designer. .cs private Label Label1; .vb Friend WithEvents Label1 as Label; For WithEvents is more or less clear(for using Handles, apparently). But why Friend in VB and private in C#... Thanks.

  • Is there a way to unit test an async method?

    - by Jiho Han
I am using Xunit and NMock on .NET platform. I am testing a presentation model where a method is asynchronous. The method creates an async task and executes it so the method returns immediately and the state I need to check aren't ready yet. I can set a flag upon finish without modifying the SUT but that would mean I would have to keep checking the flag in a while loop for example, with perhaps timeout. What are my options?

  • Range issue with ui-slider

    - by Carlos
Hi, I’m trying to set up a range with a slider. I would prefer if both cursors did not overlap in the same value. In other words, how do I get the sliders to freeze and stay put when the minimum value slider and the maximum value slider come next to each other. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

  • How to cherry pick a range of commits and merge into another branch

    - by crazybyte
Hi, I have the following repository layout: master branch (production) integration working What I want to achieve is to cherry pick a range of commits from the working branch and merge it into the integration branch. I pretty new to git and I can't figure out how to exactly do this (the cherry picking of commit ranges in one operation not the merging) without messing the repository up. Any pointers or thoughts on this? Thanks!

  • Exception opening TAdoDataset: Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are

    - by Dave Falkner
I've been trying to debug the following problem for several weeks now - this method is called from several places within the same datamodule, but this exception (from the subject line of this post) only occurs when integers for a certain purpose (pickup orders vs. orders that we ship through a carrier) are used - and don't ask me how the application can tell the difference between one integer's purpose and another! Furthermore, I cannot duplicate this issue on my machine - the error occurs on a warehouse machine but not my own development machine, even when working with the same production database. I have suspected an MDAC version conflict between the two machines, but have run a version checker and confirmed that both machines are running 2.8, and additionally have confirmed this by logging the TAdoDataset's .Version property at runtime. function TdmESShip.SecondaryID(const PrimaryID : Integer ): String; begin try with qESPackage2 do begin if Active then Close; LogMessage('-----------------------------------'); LogMessage('Version: ' + FConnection.Version); LogMessage('DB Info: ' + FConnection.Properties['Initial Catalog'].Value + ' ' + FConnection.Properties['Data Source'].Value); LogMessage('Setting the parameter.'); Parameters.ParamByName('ParameterName').Value := PrimaryID; LogMessage('Done setting the parameter.'); Open; Ninety-nine times out of 100 this logging code logs a successful operation as follows: Version: 2.8 DB Info: (database name and instance) Setting the parameter. Done setting the parameter. Opened the dataset. But then whenever a "pickup" order is processed, this exception gets thrown whenever the dataset is opened: Version: 2.8 DB Info: (database name and instance) Setting the parameter. Done setting the parameter. GetESPackageID() threw an exception. Type: EOleException, Message: Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another Error: Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another for packageID 10813711 I've tried eliminating the parameter and have built the commandtext for this dataset programmatically, suspecting that some part of the TParameter's configuration might be out of whack, but the same error occurs under the same circumstances. I've tried every combination of TParameter properties that I can think of - this is the millionth TParameter I've created for my millionth dataset, and I've never encountered this error. I've even created a second dataset from scratch and removed all references to the original dataset in case some property of the original dataset in the .dfm might be corrupted, but the same error occurs under the same circumstances. The commandtext for this dataset is a simple select ValueA from TableName where ValueB = @ParameterB I'm about ready to do something extreme, such as writing a web service to look these values up - it feels right now as though I could destroy my machine, rebuild it, rewrite this entire application from scratch, and the application would still know to throw an exception whenever I try to look up a secondary value from a primary value, but only for pickup orders, and only from the one machine in the warehouse, but I'm probably missing something simple. So, any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to properly read 16 byte unsigned integer with BinaryReader

    - by Brent
I need to parse a binary stream in .NET to convert a 16 byte unsigned integer. I would like to use the BinaryReader.ReadUIntXX() functions but there isn't a BinaryReader.ReadUInt128() function available. I assume I will have to roll my own function using the ReadByte function and build an array but I don't know if this is the most efficient method? Thanks!

  • can't the asp file system object access shares server paths?

    - by sushant
i am using this code to access files and folders. <%@ Language=VBScript %><% option explicit dim sRoot, sDir, sParent, objFSO, objFolder, objFile, objSubFolder, sSize %> <META content="Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0" name=GENERATOR><!-- Author: Adrian Forbes --> <% sRoot = "D:Raghu" sDir = Request("Dir") sDir = sDir & "\" Response.Write "<h1>" & sDir & "</h1>" & vbCRLF Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") on error resume next Set objFolder = objFSO.GetFolder(sRoot & sDir) if err.number <> 0 then Response.Write "Could not open folder" Response.End end if on error goto 0 sParent = objFSO.GetParentFolderName(objFolder.Path) ' Remove the contents of sRoot from the front. This gives us the parent ' path relative to the root folder ' eg. if parent folder is "c:webfilessubfolder1subfolder2" then we just want "subfolder1subfolder2" sParent = mid(sParent, len(sRoot) + 1) Response.Write "<table border=""1"">" ' Give a link to the parent folder. This is just a link to this page only pssing in ' the new folder as a parameter Response.Write "<tr><td colspan=3><a href=""browse.asp?dir=" & Server.URLEncode(sParent) & """>Parent folder</a></td></tr>" & vbCRLF ' Now we want to loop through the subfolders in this folder For Each objSubFolder In objFolder.SubFolders ' And provide a link to them Response.Write "<tr><td colspan=3><a href=""browse.asp?dir=" & Server.URLEncode(sDir & objSubFolder.Name) & """>" & objSubFolder.Name & "</a></td></tr>" & vbCRLF Next ' Now we want to loop through the files in this folder For Each objFile In objFolder.Files if Clng(objFile.Size) < 1024 then sSize = objFile.Size & " bytes" else sSize = Clng(objFile.Size / 1024) & " KB" end if ' And provide a link to view them. This is a link to show.asp passing in the directory and the file ' as parameters Response.Write "<tr><td><a href=""show.asp?file=" & server.URLEncode(objFile.Name) & "&dir=" & server.URLEncode (sDir) & """>" & objFile.Name & "</a></td><td>" & sSize & "</td><td>" & objFile.Type & "</td></tr>" & vbCRLF Next Response.Write "</table>" %> it works fine. but when i try to access something on shred path like: "\\cvrdd0110:share" it gives error. how to access these files? and sorry for formatting issues.
