It was interesting to hear definite patterns emerging from those conversations: “BPM is a journey”, “experiences to share”, “our organization now understands what BPM is”, and my favorite (with some caveats): “BPM is like wine tasting, once you start, you want to try more”. These customers have started their journey, climbed up the learning curve, and reached a vantage point that allows them to see their next BPM destination. They see the next few processes they are going to tackle and improve with BPM. These processes/destinations target both horizontal processes where BPM replaces or coordinates manual activities, and critical industry processes that the company needs to improve to compete and deliver increasing value. Each new destination generates value, allowing the organization to reduce the cost of manual processes that were not supported by apps/custom development, and increase efficiency of end-to-end processes partially covered by apps/custom dev. The question we wanted to answer is how to help organizations experience deeper success with BPM, by increasing their awareness of the potential for reaching new targets, and equipping them with the right tools. We decided that we needed to identify destinations, and plot routes to show the fastest path to those destinations. In the end we want to enable customers to reach “Process Excellence”: continuously set new targets and consistently and efficiently reach them. The result is Oracle Process Accelerators (PA), solutions built using the rich functionality in Oracle BPM Suite. PAs offers a rapidly expanding list of exciting destinations. Our launch of the latest installment of Process Accelerators at Oracle Open World includes new Industry-focused solutions such as Public Sector Incident Reporting and Financial Services Loan Origination, and improved other horizontal PAs, including Travel Request Management, Document Routing and Approval, and Internal Service Requests. Just before OOW we had extended the Oracle deployment of Travel Request Management, riding the enthusiastic response from early adopters among travelers (employees), management and support (approvers). “Getting there first” means being among the first to extract value from the PA approach, while acquiring deeper insights into the customers’ perspective. This is especially noteworthy when it comes to PAs, a set of solutions designed to be quickly deployed and iteratively improved by customers. The OOW launch has generated immediate feedback from customers, non-customers, analysts, and partners. They all confirmed that both Business and IT at organizations benefit from PAs when it comes to exploring the potential for BPM to improve their business processes. PAs help customers visualize what can be done with BPM, and PAs are made to be extended: you can see your destination, change the path to fit your needs, and deploy. We're discovering new destinations/processes that the market wants us to support, generic enough across industries and within industries. We'll keep on building sets of requirements, deliver functional design, construct solutions using Oracle BPM, and test them not only functionally but for performance, scalability, clustering, making them robust, product-quality. Delivering BPM solutions with product-grade quality is the equivalent of following a tried-and-tested path on a map. Do you know of existing destinations in your industry? • Multiple domains

  I got 6 domains : company.ca and company.com (because both where free, but we are a canadian company but can do business with the rest of the world). Then, we sell sportwear because of the company name is totally unknown to the world. Our product is we have bought product specific domain : chandails.ca and t-shirt.ca as well as shorts.ca and shorts.com. So those 6 domains are mine. Now what is the best way to do? Now all are 301 redirect to the main company name (.com) or make micro-site, super simple one page optimized for just shirt and one for shorts, then tell people to know more, go to the main site. Because now, I cannot really find the benefit of the search word in domain name edge if never somebody see something in that domain... I got confused and don't find strait answer to this question.

Quote from Wikipedia Starting from scratch I'm starting from scratch with a project that I recently finished because I found the code to be too tightly coupled and hard to refactor, even when using MVC. I will be using MVC on my new project aswell but want to try and avoid the pitfalls this time, hopefully with your help. Project summary My issue is that I really wish to keep the Controller as clean as possible, but it seems like I can't do this. The basic idea of the program is that the user picks wordlists which is sent to the game engine. It will pick random words from the lists until there are none left. Problem at hand My main problem is that the game will have 'modes', and need to check the input in different ways through a method called checkWord(), but exactly where to put this and how to abstract it properly is a challenge to me. I'm new to design patterns, so not sure whether there exist any might fit my problem. My own attempt at abstraction Here is what I've gotten so far after hours of 'refactoring' the design plans, and I know it's long, but it's the best I could do to try and give you an overview (Note: As this is the sketch, anything is subject to change, all help and advice is very welcome. If object A needs info from object B, how is it supposed to get this without losing too much cohesion? As suggested in the comments, models should hold all business logic. However, as objects should be independent, where to glue them together? Should the model contain some sort of "index" or "client" area which connects the dots? Edit: So basically what I should do for a start is to make a new model which I can more easily call with oneliners such as $model->doAction(); // Lots of code in here which uses classes! How about the method for checking words? Should it be it's own object? I'm not sure where I should put it as it's pretty much part of the 'game'. But on another hand, I could just leave out the 'abstraction and OOPness' and make it a method of the 'client model' which will be encapsulated from the controller anyway. Very unsure about this.

• What is an acceptable GC frequency for a SlimDX/Windows/.NET game?

  I understand that the Windows GC is much better than the Xbox/WP7 GC, being that it's generational and multithreaded -- so I don't need to worry quite as much about avoiding memory allocation. SlimDX even has some unavoidable functions that generate some amount of garbage (specifically, MapSubresource creates DataBoxes), yet people don't seem to be too upset about it. I'd like to use some functional paradigms to write my code too, which also means creating objects like closures and monads. I know premature optimization isn't a good thing, but are there rules of thumb or metrics that I can follow to know whether I need to cut down on allocations? Is, say, one gen 0 GC per frame too much? One thing that has me stumped is object promotions. Gen 0 GCs will supposedly finish within a millisecond or two, but if I'm understanding correctly, it's the gen 1 and 2 promotions that start to hurt. I'm not too sure how I can predict/prevent these.

• Is it illegal to use content in such a way?

  I have a couple of questions about the legality of the content of some websites. I am currently working on two websites and I would like to make sure I am not breaking any laws, by using some content like I am... Do I need to get a license to use images from the Internet (such as google.images.com) in my site, assuming they aren't a company logo belonging to another company? If not, am I allowed to use it after I modify it with a image editing software? If content such as phone numbers, e-mail addresses, website addresses, and text from websites can be found for free online, and I gather this information for a search engine based site that I am working on and offering this information on a paid basis (similar to google, but more specialized), is something that is legal? Note: I am not 'copying' or redirecting business from anywhere, to my site. The exact opposite, the site I am working on actually helps advertise businesses and make it easier for customers to find them.

• How important is it that you know the C++ standard?

I am an avid user of SO, and I notice that there are lots of references to the C++ standard in discussions and answers - and I have to admit, I have never read this particular document, the language makes my eyes hurt... So, the question is, can a C++ developer really code for a living without ever having read this document? Is it really important for us mere mortals who are not in the business of writing compilers?

• Is there a way I can filter traffic by page-type based upon URL structure in Google-Analytics or Google Webmaster Tools?

I'm trying to segment my incoming traffic by page-type such that I can find out what percentage of traffic is going to zip code pages exclusively and what percentage is going to city/state level pages. I basically want to filter by URL structure to find out what percentage of total traffic zip code pages account for. The reason for doing this is to find out if Google Tag Manager can help with this? • Duplicate domain names - .net and .com Create separate pages, or redirect?

  In a SEO point of view: This website has a good amount of traffic for a local business, but also ships some merchandise. While the .net domain (registered first) is associated with the local busines (google places, maps, etc...) the .com domain only redirects to the .net domain. Is it good, bad or okay to create a different page for the domain .com for example, that would be pretty simple, but would link to the 10 different categories of products that this company sells? I know links are good, so there's that, but what else is good, or bad? Thanks in advance!

• How to verify the Liskov substitution principle in an inheritance hierarchy?

  Inspired by this answer: Liskov Substitution Principle requires that Preconditions cannot be strengthened in a subtype. Postconditions cannot be weakened in a subtype. Invariants of the supertype must be preserved in a subtype. History constraint (the "history rule"). Objects are regarded as being modifiable only through their methods (encapsulation). Since subtypes may introduce methods that are not present in the supertype, the introduction of these methods may allow state changes in the subtype that are not permissible in the supertype. The history constraint prohibits this. I was hoping if someone would post a class hierarchy that violates these 4 points and how to solve them accordingly. I'm looking for an elaborate explanation for educational purposes on how to identify each of the 4 points in the hierarchy and the best way to fix it. Note: I was hoping to post a code sample for people to work on, but the question itself is about how to identify the faulty hierarchies :)

Requirements: limit the type of objects allowed to be dropped on the diagram validate a model (e.g. node of type A must precede node of type B; must enter node Title) export a model import a model Our domain is very specific, and its a tool we'd want to offer to some of our power users. The $500 Visio licence isn't really within the business model. I'll put no constraints on framework or deployment (web or desktop) - is there anything out there?

  I need to collect Video on demand bandwidth usage every few minutes (or maybe ever few seconds) and store this in a database so users can produce graphs on bandwidth usage over a period of time (few hours, days, weeks or even possibly months). So the sort of data that will be stored will be the number of users watching videos, current server bandwidth (Mb/s), multicast bit rate etc. I am wondering whether using CQRS would be a good approach with Event sourcing as I can then rebuild my objects to create different projections (I.e. different graphs/reports etc) but then again it seems like I am introducing complexity which might not be needed. Or would it be best to just put the data directly in a database (currently using PostGres) directly and query off that? Having thought about it, my table is a form of audit log anyway, so I don't think I need event sourcing at all. Any thoughts?

• Gnome 3 and compiz, everything works except Explode and Leaf Spread animations

  I am using 11.10 with Gnome 3, I have installed Compiz, and have got it functioning almost how I want it. I want my windows to Leaf Spread, which seems to work fine for a few minutes after I enable it and restart my machine. However, over the time of a few window closes, I notice that the objects are not showing up little by little until the Leaf Spread just doesn't show at all? This really isn't a big deal, but I'd like things to work properly. Can anyone shed some light on this?
