• Using VLC as RTSP server

  I'm trying to figure out how to use the server capabilities of VLC. More specifically, how to export an SDP file when RTP streaming. In chapter 4 in the section related to RTP Streaming examples for server and client are given: vlc -vvv input_stream --sout '#rtp{dst=192.168.0.12,port=1234,sdp=rtsp://server.example.org:8080/test.sdp}' vlc rtsp://server.example.org:8080/test.sdp It's not very clear to me how to make it actually work. I have tried these two commands for server and client using two cmd instances: vlc -I rc screen:// --sout=#rtp{dst=127.0.0.1,port=4444,sdp=rtsp://localhost:8080/test.sdp} vlc -I rc rtsp://localhost:8080/test.sdp Invoking the second command causes the first one to crash. The second command shows the error message "could not connect to localhost:8080".

• Troubleshooting mailserver (Postfix, Dovecot) on Ubuntu Server 9.10?

  Hi, I have configured a mail server with Postfix and Dovecot on Ubuntu Server 9.10. I followed the guidelines here (using Maildir): https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Postfix https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Dovecot The tests seemed alright so I connected it to GMail which is able to connect and fetch e-mails. But since there's no e-mail in the Maildir/ directory I can't decide if the problem is Postfix or Dovecot. And I am totally new to mailservers so I don't know where to start troubleshooting. So, I want to start by testing Dovecot. How can I create a fake "Hello World"-email directly on the server (using a text editor) so that I can try to fetch it with GMail? If Dovecot is alright, where do I start looking for errors in Postfix? Thank you for your time. Christoffer

• Keep a Window on top with a handy AutoHotkey script

  Are you tired of shuffling back and forth between windows to get your work done?  Here’s a handy tool that lets you keep any window always on top when you need it. There are many ways to use multiple windows efficiently, but sometimes it seems you need to keep a smaller one in front of a larger window and they never quite fit right.  Whether you’re trying to use Calculator and a web form at the same time, or see what music is playing while you’re catching up on your news, there’s many scenarios where it can be useful to keep one window always on top.  There are many utilities to do this, but they are often needlessly complicated and bloated.  Here we look at a better solution from Amit, our friend at Digital Inspiration. Always on Top Thanks to AutoHotkey, you can easily always keep any window on top of all the others on your screen.  You can download this as a small exe and run it directly, or can create it with a simple script in AutoHotkey.  For simplicity, we simply downloaded the application and ran it directly. To do this, download Always on Top (link below), and unzip the file. Once you’ve launched it, simply select the window you want to keep on top and press Ctrl+Space.  This program will now stay in front, even when it is not the active window.  Here’s a screenshot of a Hotmail signup dialog in Chrome with Notepad kept on top.  Notice Notepad isn’t the active application, but it is still on top. If you wish to un-pin the window from being on top, simply select the window and press Ctrl+space again.  You can keep multiple windows pinned at once, too, though you may clutter your desktop quickly! Always on Top will keep running in your system tray, and you can exit or suspend it by right-clicking on its tray icon and selecting exit or suspend, respectively. Create Your Own Always on Top Utility with AutoHotkey If you’re a fan of AutoHotkey, you can create your own AutoHotkey script to keep windows on top simply and easily with only one line of code: ^SPACE:: Winset, Alwaysontop, , A Simply create a new file, insert the code, and save it as plaintext with the .ahk file extension.  If you have AutoHotkey installed, simply double-click this file for the exact same functionality as the premade version.     This sys.dm_exec_sessions DMV is another Server-Scoped DMV which returns information for each authenticated session that is running on your SQL Server box. Lets take a look at some of the information that this DMV returns. SELECT * FROM sys.dm_exec_sessions This DMV is very similar to the DMV we reviewed yesterday, sys.dm_exec_requests, and returns some of the same information such as reads, writes, and status for a given session_id (SPID). But this DMV returns additional information such as the Host name of the machine that owns the SPID, the program that is being used to connect to SQL Server, and the Client interface name. In addition to this information, this DMV also provides useful information on session level settings that may be on or off such as quoted identifier, arithabort, ansi padding, ansi nulls, etc. This DMV will also provide information about what specific isolation level the session is executing under and if the default deadlock priority for your SPID has been changed from the default. Lastly, this DMV provides you with an Original Login Name, which comes in handy whenever you have some type of context switching taking place due to an ‘EXECUTE AS’ statement being used and you need to identify the original login that started a session. • Problems with 2 ISCSI connections esxi 3.5

  I am running a dell poweredge 1950 with 4 nic cards. 1 is bonded to SAN #1 on 192.168.90.xx. The second SAN is on a separate network - 192.168.7.xx The network adapter can view the ip range of the san and the NIC can be pinged from 192.168.7.xx range. vswitch1 and vswitch2 are configured identically except for the ip address. The second SAN has been added to the iscsi software adapter but the SAN is never recognized. I can connect to the SAN from other machines on the local network. Is there something else that needs to be configured for the iscsi software adapter to know which vswitch to use?

• How to Configure Windows Machine to Allow File Sharing with DNS Alias

  I have not seen a single article posted anywhere online that brings together all the settings one would need to do to make this work properly on Windows, so I thought I would post it here. To facilitate failover schemes, a common technique is to use DNS CNAME records (DNS Aliases) for different machine roles. Then instead of changing the Windows computername of the actual machine name, one can switch a DNS record to point to a new host. This can work on Microsoft Windows machines, but to make it work with file sharing the following configuration steps need to be taken. Outline The Problem The Solution Allowing other machines to use filesharing via the DNS Alias (DisableStrictNameChecking) Allowing server machine to use filesharing with itself via the DNS Alias (BackConnectionHostNames) Providing browse capabilities for multiple NetBIOS names (OptionalNames) Register the Kerberos service principal names (SPNs) for other Windows functions like Printing (setspn) References 1. The Problem On Windows machines, file sharing can work via the computer name, with or without full qualification, or by the IP Address. By default, however, filesharing will not work with arbitrary DNS aliases. To enable filesharing and other Windows services to work with DNS aliases, you must make registry changes as detailed below and reboot the machine. 2. The Solution Allowing other machines to use filesharing via the DNS Alias (DisableStrictNameChecking) This change alone will allow other machines on the network to connect to the machine using any arbitrary hostname. (However this change will not allow a machine to connect to itself via a hostname, see BackConnectionHostNames below). Edit the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters and add a value DisableStrictNameChecking of type DWORD set to 1. Allowing server machine to use filesharing with itself via the DNS Alias (BackConnectionHostNames) This change is necessary for a DNS alias to work with filesharing from a machine to find itself. This creates the Local Security Authority host names that can be referenced in an NTLM authentication request. To do this, follow these steps for all the nodes on the client computer: To the registry subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0, add new Multi-String Value BackConnectionHostNames In the Value data box, type the CNAME or the DNS alias, that is used for the local shares on the computer, and then click OK. Note: Type each host name on a separate line. Providing browse capabilities for multiple NetBIOS names (OptionalNames) Allows ability to see the network alias in the network browse list. Edit the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters and add a value OptionalNames of type Multi-String Add in a newline delimited list of names that should be registered under the NetBIOS browse entries Names should match NetBIOS conventions (i.e. not FQDN, just hostname) Register the Kerberos service principal names (SPNs) for other Windows functions like Printing (setspn) NOTE: Should not need to do this for basic functions to work, documented here for completeness. We had one situation in which the DNS alias was not working because there was an old SPN record interfering, so if other steps aren't working check if there are any stray SPN records. You must register the Kerberos service principal names (SPNs), the host name, and the fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) for all the new DNS alias (CNAME) records. If you do not do this, a Kerberos ticket request for a DNS alias (CNAME) record may fail and return the error code KDC_ERR_S_SPRINCIPAL_UNKNOWN. To view the Kerberos SPNs for the new DNS alias records, use the Setspn command-line tool (setspn.exe). The Setspn tool is included in Windows Server 2003 Support Tools. You can install Windows Server 2003 Support Tools from the Support\Tools folder of the Windows Server 2003 startup disk. How to use the tool to list all records for a computername: setspn -L computername To register the SPN for the DNS alias (CNAME) records, use the Setspn tool with the following syntax: setspn -A host/your_ALIAS_name computername setspn -A host/your_ALIAS_name.company.com computername 3. I mean I want to share the internet connection through it I have installed 2 Lan cards in it eth0 and eth1 eth0 Internet eth1 LAN eth0 configuration as follows ; Ipaddress : 115.252.64.187 Subnet : 255.255.255.240 Gateway : 115.252.64.177 I wrote the following entries in Vim /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 202.138.96.2 (preferred DNS Server) nameserver 202.138.103.2 (secondary DNS server) :q! then eth1 ipaddress : 192.168.1.1 subnet : 255.255.255.0 gateway : 192.168.1.1 (I am confused which gateway I need to use in the above scenario) I am unable to ping to my lan and I am able to connect to the Internet. • Urgent :The desktop currently has no desktop sources

  Although i know there are large no. of post already floating over same issue , but am having no luck so far. I am getting below error message when trying to connect desktop by vmware view client 4: "the desktop currently has no desktop sources............. " My configuration is listed below: using view manager server over VM box. successully deployed 10 desktop VM over View manager and they are persistent mode. previoulsy few users were able to coonect to these desktops successfully under desktop sources i am getting "Domain name\user ID" and under status its showing "Ready" So when any other user who is authenticated trying to access desktop getting above mentioned error message. The other users are unique one who previously never logged in. Also i tried to rebooth the VM desktops assuming they might be locked by another user , but still am getting the same error message. Please help.

• Correct configuration of a reverse Proxy with IIS 6.0 and IIRF for Hudson

  I have an Hudson build working on IIS 6.0 with reverse proxy (IIRF). In general it works but 2 errors are displayed in Hudson in the main configuration page called "Manage Hudson" (only if I connect through the reverse proxy): Your container doesn't use UTF-8 to decode URLs. If you use non-ASCII characters as a job name etc, this will cause problems. See Containers and Tomcat i18n for more details. The problem is that, when I'm in office, to reach the svn repo I use an internal LAN IP (like 192.168.1.200), but when I'm home the IP is different, because I reach the server from an externel connection. • SATA-II motherboard and drives but only connected at SATA-I

  I have an Abit AB9 QuadGT motherboard which has a SATA-II controller. Connected to it I have a Kingston SSDNow V Series 64GB as boot drive and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 as a data drive. I also have 2 x Optiarc AD-7170S DVD burners attached by SATA. Both SSD and HDD are SATA-II and the optical drives are SATA-I. I have just run CrystalDiskInfo and this is reporting that both SSD and HDD are connected at SATA-I (1.5 Gbps), not SATA-II (3.0 Gbps). I have the BIOS set up to use SATA drives in IDE mode. So a few questions: Is CrystalDiskInfo reporting correctly? Are the optical drives causing the SSD & HDD to connect at the slower rate? Is there any setting to force the SSD & HDD to use SATA-II? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.

• Windows - Use Local Service and/or Network Service account for a windows service

  I've created a window's service that monitors files on a specific directory on our Windows OS. When a file is detected, the service does some file I/O, reads the files, creates sub-directories, etc. This service also uses database connectivity to connect to another server. My plan is to have the service run as the default "Local Service" account. Since I need to allow write/read privileges, which apparently the "Local Service" account does not do by default, I'm going to explicitly set "Full Control" privileges for the "Local Service" account on the folder that I'm reading/writing to and from. I believe the above is a good . My question is, for the folder that I'm reading and writing to, do I need to setup a "Network Service" role with full control access? I'm wondering since my service uses database connectivity to another server, if I'll need the "Network Service" account setup. I may be misunderstanding what the "Network Service" account does.

• Sendmail Failing to Forward Locally Addressed Mail to Exchange Server

  I've recently gained employment as a web developer with a small company. What they neglected to tell me upon hire was that I would be administrating the server along with my other daily duties. Now, truth be told, I'm not clueless when it comes to these things, but this is my first rodeo working with a rack server/console.. However, I'm confident that I will be able to work through any solutions you provide. Short Description: When a customer places an order via our (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) website, a copy of said order is supposed to be BCC'd to our sales manager. I say supposed because this was a working feature before the old administrator left. Long Description: Shortly after I started, we had a server crash which required a server restart. After restart, we noticed a few features on our site weren't working, but all those have been cleaned up except this one. I had to create an account on our server for root access. When a customer places an order, our sites software (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) is configured to BCC the customers order email to our sales manager. We use a Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server for our mail, which is hosted on a different machine (in-house) that I don't have access to ATM, but I'm sure I could if needed. As far as I can tell, all other external emails work.. Only INTERNAL email addresses fail to deliver. I know this because I've also tested my own internal address via our website. I set up an account with an internal email, made a test order, and never received the email. I changed my email for the account to an external GMail account, and received emails as expected. Let's dive into the logs and config's.   I want to connect using FTP to my webpage hosted on ipages.com , but I always get this error on filezilla.: Status: Server does not support non-ASCII characters. Status: Connected Status: Retrieving directory listing... Command: PWD Response: 550 PWD: Permission denied Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing Error: Disconnected from server: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted It looks like the connection is established but then disconnects. Is it an issue with the host? I use the default port 21. The user-pass is working. And the ftp adress is ftp.mysite.com I tested the port 21 using netstat and I get 220 Ipage FTP Server Ready

• How to have internet connection over VPN while "Microsoft Firewall Client for ISA server" is running

  I have the software mentioned in the title running on my machine. When I connect over VPN to my company's network, my internet connection gets borked, because somehow the ISA firewall blocks it. This is completely idiotic, because my work involves extensive use of the internet, so having to disconnect and reconnect continuously seriously cripples my productivity. (Meaning: I'm tearing my hair out here.) Can I have my VPN connection and somehow still have my internet connection too? I'm open to any solution.

  I'd like to connect my PC to an HDTV using an HDMI-HDMI cable. The distance between them is about 8 m; is the length going to be an issue? I'm worried the signal might deteriorate over such a distance. Also, does price have any major impact on the signal quality? I'd like to buy an 8-10 m cable for somewhere around 20$. Would such a cheap cable be good for what I want?

  I have a Netgear N750 as my main router, which connects to the internet via a modem. I have a second Netgear N750 which I want to use to repeat the wireless signal of the main router. I logged in to routerlogin of my main router (192.168.1.1) and set up the "Wireless Repeating Function". I set it as the "Wireless Base Station" and filled in the MAC adress of my second Netgear N750. Then I logged in to routerlogn of my second router and set it up as the "Wireless Repeater", I gave it the IP 192.168.1.11 and filled in the MAC adress of the base station. During the setup of the second router (Repeater) I had to disable all security functions. If I connect to the repeaters' WLAN signal, I get no internet connection. Maybe you can help me, thanks

  I have a Debian server with one static external IP. It has PPTP server installed. Local IP is 192.168.1.200 and remote IPs are 192.168.1.201-209. I have several users, who connect to my server using their routers through the Internet. VPN work flawlessly. Routers have UPnP enabled, but devices, that use UPnP, are reporting no UPnP available. What rules do I need in iptables to make it work? Thanks.

  I am putting a Dell server together, more specifically R720. I have to select the correct Host Bus Adapter. This HBA on R710 will connect to a storage device. I am confused between these two: QLogic 2562, Dual Port 8Gb Optical Fiber Channel HBA (price $2,045) QLogic 8262, Dual Port 10Gb SFP+, Converged Network Adapter (price $1,618) I thought since the QLogic 2562 is a fiber channel and is more expensive then it is faster in terms of IOPS. But, it is a 8Gb as opposed to 10 Gb of SFP+. My questions: Which one is better (IOPS performance, etc.)? Why should I choose one over another?

• Tunneling a TCP/IP Connection through Remote Desktop Connection

  There is a remote Windows server on a private network which I can connect to via Remote Desktop Connection. I would like to be able to make TCP/IP connections from my computer to other computers on that server's network. Remote Desktop Connection makes it possible to share printers, drives, and other local resources through the connection. Is there any way to "tunnel" a TCP/IP connection via RDC? I'd like something similar to the port-forwarding provided by SSH. I don't see any way to do this via RDC, but I'm hoping the capability is there and I just don't know about it.

• Fun with Database Mail

  I just had some fun with a new server I set up. I configured Database Mail but it wouldn't send mail. In the Database Log was an error message I've never had before: The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 1 (2010-02-15T16:58:54). Exception Message: Could not connect to mail server. (A non-recoverable error occurred during a database lookup). ) I looked around and found this forum thread: http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=139909. I looked into the anti-virus software and firewall but neither of those helped. Then I noticed the last post where they original poster said "oops, I put an @ in the name of the SMTP server". How I laughed. What a ***! At least my problem isn't because I did something that careless. But then that little voice in my head said "Better check, just to be on the safe side". SMTP Server Name: smtp@domain. Who's the *** now? So, rbarlow, thanks very much for making the same silly mistake first so I could find the answer. (And I'm sorry for thinking you were a ***!)

• L2TP with PEAP authentication from MacOS/iOS

  Following the recent security advisory, I'm reconfiguring our VPN servers and having trouble. We're using Windows 2008 R2 server for VPN services, running RRAS and NPS on the same server and configure it to use PEAP-EAP-MSCHAPV2 authentiation for all tunnel type(PPTP, L2TP, IKEv2, SSTP), which previously allowed plain MSCHAPv2. But Apple products, MacOS and iOS cannot connect to VPN after this change. I tried to install root certificate used in PEAP transaction but no change. Does anyone know whether MacOS/iOS supports PEAP-EAP-MSCHAPv2 authentication in PPTP/L2TP? If so any tips to make it work? (I know PEAP-EAP-MSCHAPv2 is supported in WPA/WPA2 enterprise) Regards.
