• Use Session state within pLinq queries

  Hi, I have a fairly simple Linq query (simplified code): dim x = From Product In lstProductList.AsParallel Order By Product.Price.GrossPrice Descending Select Product Product is a class. Product.Price is a child class and GrossPrice is one of its properties. In order to work out the price I need to use Session("exchange_rate"). So for each item in lstProductList there's a function that does the following: NetPrice=NetPrice * Session("exchange_rate") (and then GrossPrice returns NetPrice+VatAmount) No matter what I've tried I cannot access session state. I have tried HttpContext.Current - but that returns Nothing. I've tried Implements IRequiresSessionState on the class (which helps in a similar situation in generic http handlers [.ashx]) - no luck. I'm using simple InProc session state mode. Exchange rate has to be user specific. What can I do? • ECC RAM in GA-G33M-DS2R? Or any Gigabyte/G33M motherboard?

  I'm looking to retire a server which has 12GB of ECC DDR2 RAM. I'd like to upgrade my multi-purpose machine (firewall, file server, VM host for Windows Home Server, etc.) using the RAM from the server. I was just wondering: Has anyone had experience using ECC RAM in a GA-G33M-DS2R motherboard (or any Gigabyte GA-G33M-XXXX motherboard for that matter)? Has anyone had experience using ECC RAM in a motherboard with a G33M chipset. I've searched everywhere and found the attitude positive of ECC memory working in a Non-ECC board, but I would like some specific positive feedback before proceeding tonight. I have to kick the entire house offline, which I don't like to do without good reason :)

• Unable to convert from Julian INT date to regular TSQL Datetime

  Help me Stackoverflow, I'm close to going all "HULK SMASH" on my keyboard over this issue. I have researched carefully but I'm obviously not getting something right. I am working with a Julian dates referenced from a proprietary tool (Platinum SQL?), though I'm working in SQL 2005. I can convert their "special" version of Julian into datetime when I run a select statement. Unfortunately it will not insert into a datetime column, I get the following error when I try: The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value. So I can't setup datetime criteria for running a report off of the Stored Procedure. Original Value: 733416 Equivalent Calendar Value: 01-09-2009 Below is my code... I'm so close but I can't quite see what's wrong, I need my convert statement to actually convert the Julian value (733416) into a compatible TSQL DATETIME value. • C# to find JobId, Owner, TotalPages from Printer

  My below code works when the Form loads and I can get a list of Network Printers in listBox1. • Outlook Interop Send Message from Account

  Okay, the specs have changed on this one somewhat. Maybe someone can help me with this new problem. Manually, what the user is doing is opening an new message in Outlook (2007 now) which has the "From..." field exposed. They open this up, select a certain account from the Global Address List, and send the message on behalf of that account. Is this possible to do? I can get the AddressEntry from the Global address list like so: AddressList list = null; foreach (AddressList addressList in _outlookApp.Session.AddressLists) { if (addressList.Name.ToLower().Equals("global address list")) { list = addressList; break; } } if (list != null) { AddressEntry entry = null; foreach (AddressEntry addressEntry in list.AddressEntries) { if (addressEntry.Name.ToLower().Equals("outgoing mail account")) { entry = addressEntry; break; } } } But I'm not sure I can make an Account type from the Address Entry. It seems to happen manually, when they select the address to send from. How do I mirror this in the Interop? Thanks! (My Original Question): I developed a small C# program to send email using the Outlook 2007 interop. The client required that the mail not be send using the default account - they had a secondary account they needed used. No problem - I used the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Account class to access the availabled accounts, and choose the correct one. Now, it turns out they need this to work in Outlook 2003. Of course, the Account class doesn't exist in the Outlook interop 11.0. How can I achieve the same thing with Outlook 2003? Thanks in advance.

• How to read a Website's Directory Structure using WMI and C# in IIS 6.0?

  Hi all, I need to read a website's folders using WMI and C# in IIS 6.0. I am able to read the Virtual directories and applications using the "IISWebVirtualDirSetting" class. However the physical folders located inside a website cannot be read using this class. And for my case i need to read sub folders located within a website and later on set permission on them. For my requirement i dont need to work on Virtual Directories/Web Service Applications (which can be easily obtained using the code below..). I have tried to use IISWebDirectory class but it has been useful. • LINQ to DataSet Dataclass assignment question

  Hi all, I'm working on a Silverlight project trying to access a database using LINQ To DataSet and then sending data over to Silverlight via .ASMX web service. I've defined my DataSet using the Server Explorer tool (dragging and dropping all the different tables that I'm interested in). The DataSet is able to access the server and database with no issues. Below is code from one of my Web Methods: public List<ClassSpecification> getSpecifications() { DataSet2TableAdapters.SpecificationTableAdapter Sta = new DataSet2TableAdapters.SpecificationTableAdapter(); return (from Spec in Sta.GetData().AsEnumerable() select new ClassSpecification() { Specification = Spec.Field<String>("Specification"), SpecificationType = Spec.Field<string>("SpecificationType"), StatusChange = Spec.Field<DateTime>("StatusChange"), Spec = Spec.Field<int>("Spec") }).ToList<ClassSpecification>(); } I created a "ClassSpecification" data class which is going to contain my data and it has all the table fields as properties. My question is, is there a quicker way of doing the assignment than what is shown here? There are actually about 10 more fields, and I would imagine that since my DataSet knows my table definition, that I would have a quicker way of doing the assignment than going field by field. I tried just "select new ClassSpecification()).ToList Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• MySQL use certain columns, based on other columns

  I have this query: SELECT COUNT(articles.id) AS count FROM articles, xml_documents, streams WHERE articles.xml_document_id = xml_documents.id AND xml_documents.stream_id = streams.id AND articles.published_at BETWEEN '2010-01-01' AND '2010-04-01' AND streams.brand_id = 7 Which just uses the default equajoin by specifying three tables in csv format in the FROM clause.. What I need to do is group this by a value found within articles.source (raw xml).. so it could turn into this: SELECT COUNT(articles.id) AS count, ExtractValue(articles.source, "/article/media_type") AS media_type FROM articles, xml_documents, streams WHERE articles.xml_document_id = xml_documents.id AND xml_documents.stream_id = streams.id AND articles.published_at BETWEEN '2010-01-01' AND '2010-04-01' AND streams.brand_id = 7 GROUP BY media_type which works fine, the problem is, I'm using rails, and using STI for the xml_documents table. The articles.source that is provided to the ExtractValue method will be of a couple different formats.. So what I need to be able to do is use "/article/media_type" IF xml_documents.type = 'source one' and use "/article/source" if xml_documents.type = 'source two' This is just because the two document types format their XML differently, but I don't want to have to run multiple queries to retrieve this information.. It would be nice if one could use a ternary operator, but i don't think this is possible.. EDIT At this Point I am looking at making a temp table, or simply using UNION to place multiple result sets together..

• ADSIEdit freezes gettings properties of a group with hundred of thousands members

  Doing performance testing on an AD-LDS (Server 2008 R2 64 bits), we created a milion user in a single OU. We also created a single group object and made those milion users member of that group. When we try to list the milion of users ADSIEdit times out with an error message saying it cannot display that many users. Fine. But if we open the properties for the group, ADSIEdit freezes, eating up all available memory and CPU trashing (nearly 60M page faults in under an hour). AD-LDS (running on another computer) is barely hitting the 1% CPU mark, servicing other ldap requests as if nothing were. We can throw more memory at the problem, but more users will have to be managed one day and we will be back at square one. Is there a way to set a limit in ADSIEdit so that it will not hang the computer when retreving a very large multi-value object ?

• Why would cat6 connectors not work with cat5e patch cable?

  I had a naff batch of cat5 connectors (the latching mechanism didn't work) so decided to order in some cat6 connectors in preparation for the inevitable upgrade. My existing reel of for making patch cables is cat5e utp stranded. I made up a few cables and tested them- none of them worked. I recrimped and still nothing. When i check them with a multi-meter not all pins are connected. This reel has always worked with the previous cat5 connectors so I tested the cat6 connectors on a reel of solid cat5e cable and they work fine. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Or what might be at fault? (cable/connectors) and how I can diagnose? Thanks Lee

  Hey Sorry the title is not very clear. This is a follow up to my earlier question where one of the members helped me with a query. I have a following friends Table Friend friend_id - primary key user_id user_id_friend status The way the table is populated is - when I send a friend request to John - my userID appears in user_id and Johns userID appears in user_id_friend. Now another scenario is say Mike sends me a friend request - in this case mike's userID will appear in user_id and my userID will appear in user_id_friend So to find all my friends - I need to run a query to find where my userID appears in both user_id column as well as user_id_friend column What I am trying to do now is - when I search for user say John - I want all users Johns listed on my site to show up along with the status of whether they are my friend or not and if they are not - then show a "Add Friend" button. Based on the previous post - I got this query which does part of the job - My example user_id is 1: SELECT u.user_id, f.status FROM user u LEFT OUTER JOIN friend f ON f.user_id = u.user_id and f.user_id_friend = 1 where u.name like '%' So this only shows users with whom I am friends where they have sent me request ie my userID appears in user_id_friend. Although I am friends with others (where my userID appears in user_id column) - this query will return that as null To get those I need another query like this SELECT u.user_id, f.status FROM user u LEFT OUTER JOIN friend f ON f.user_id_friend = u.user_id and f.user_id = 1 where u.name like '%' So how do I combine these queries to return 1 set of users and what my friendship status with them is. • TwoWay Binding to ListBox SelectedItem on more than one list box in WPF

  I have a scenario where I have a globally available Properties window (similar to the Properties window in Visual Studio), which is bound to a SelectedObject property of my model. I have a number of different ways to browse and select objects, so my first attempt was to bind them to SelectedObject directly. For example: <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding ActiveProject.Controllers}" SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedObject, Mode=TwoWay}"/> <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding ActiveProject.Machines}" SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedObject, Mode=TwoWay}"/> This works well when I have more than one item in each list, but it fails if a list has only one item. When I select the item, SelectedObject is not updated, since the list still thinks its original item was selected. I believe this happens because the two way binding simply ignores the update from source when SelectedObject is not an object in the list, leaving the list's SelectedItem unchanged. In this way, the bindings become out of sync. Does anybody know of a way to make sure the list boxes reset their SelectedItem when the SelectedObject is not in the list? Is there a better way to do this that doesn't suffer from this problem?

• Images missing after moving Django to new server

  I'm moving Django project to new server. I'm newbie in Django, and I don't know where should be upload folder. There are all images which should be displayed on website. In config file I haven't seen upload folder I could specify, so I'm guessing it always should be the same location for django projects or I just can't find it. Locations are saved in database. When I've put uploaded files into media folder, so url was like domain.co.uk/media/upload/media/images/year/month/day/image_name.ext and the same is on the old website, images on website ware still missing. All images are visible if I put url by hand, but django doesn't seems to see files. Replies are defined by the ParentID column, which is self-referencing.

  I am building my portfolio website simply using HTML, Flash, and the Mootools Javascript framework. I have decided to implement a theme changing feature using Javascript and cookies. When the user clicks on the "Change Theme" link, a mediaboxAdvanced lightbox appears, containing a real-time form which allows you to change the theme on the portfolio. • Is MEF an all-or-nothing affair?

  I've had a few questions about MEF recently, but here's the big one -- is it really all-or-nothing, as it appears to be? My basic application structure is simply an app, several shared libraries that are intended to be singletons, and several different plugins (which may implement different interfaces). The app loads the plugins, and both the app and all plugins need to access the shared libraries. My first go at MEF was fairly successful, although I made some stupid mistakes along the way because I was trying so many different things, I just got confused at times. But in the end, last night I got my smallish test app running with MEF, some shared libraries, and one plugin. Now I'm moving onto the target app, which I already described. And it's the multiple plugins part that has be a bit worried. My existing application already supports multiple plugins with different interfaces by using Reflection. I need to be able to uniquely identify each plugin so that the user can select one and get the expected behavior exposed by that plugin. The problem is that I don't know how to do this yet... but that's the topic of a different question. Ideally, I'd be able to take my existing plugin loader and use it as-is, while relying on MEF to do the shared library resolution. The problem is, I can't seem to get MEF to load them (i.e. I get a CompositionException when calling ComposeParts()) unless I also use MEF to load the plugin. And if I do this, well... then I need to know how to keep track of them as they get loaded so the user can select one from a list of plugins. What have your experiences been with trying to mix and match these approaches?

Is there some reason that concatenation won't work inside a While loop? That seems wrong, since incrementing @counter works perfectly. So is there something else I'm missing?
