  I am working on x86_64 machine. My linux kernel is also 64 bit kernel. As there are different ways to implement a system call (int 80, syscall, sysenter), i wanted to know what type of system call my machine is using. I am newbie to linux. I have written a demo program. include int main() { getpid(); return 0; } getpid() does one system call. Can anybody give me a method to find which type of system call will be used by my machine for this program.. Thank you....

• When and how should custom hierarchies be used in clojure?

  Clojure's system for creating an ad hoc hierarchy of keywords is familiar to most people who have spent a bit of time with the language. For example, most demos and presentations of the language include examples such as (derive ::child ::parent) and they go on to show how this can be used for multi-method dispatch. In all of the slides and presentations that I've seen, they use the global hierarchy. But it is possible to keyword relationships in custom hierarchies. Some questions, therefore: Are there any guidelines on when this is useful or necessary? Are there any functions for manipulating hierarchies? Merging is particularly useful, so I do this: (defn merge-h [& hierarchies] (apply merge-with (cons #(merge-with clojure.set/union %1 %2) hierarchies)) But I was wondering if such functions already exist somewhere.

• How does a syscall knows where the wrapper function put its parameters in?

  I'm trying to implement a syscall in Linux (RedHat Enterprise 8) and I'm a bit confused about the way it works. From what I understand, I implement a wrapper in user mode which puts the syscall number in eax and parameters in ebx, ecx, edx, etc, and then invokes int 0x80 which calls the appropriate syscall. My question is, since a syscall is written like a regular C function, how does it know what registers contain what parameters? Is it a convention, or is there a mechanism for it, and if so where and how does it do it?

• Confusion on using django socialauth

  http://github.com/uswaretech/Django-Socialauth/tree/master/socialauth/ I'm a bit confused on how I should use this. Of course, I read the notes at the bottom but I'm a Django novice so I'll need a little hand holding. The structure of this looks like a project structure since it contains a urls.py but I'm also aware that applications can also have that. It also has a manage.py which leads me to believe it's a project ( plus the subdirectories ). So should I just be integrating portions of this into my existing project? This isn't an application, right? The README also mentions grabbing API Keys. So if I want a standard interface where you click on a google/yahoo logo and it forwards itself via Javascript to the authentication page where you login if you already aren't logged in, kicks you back to your own page, would I need API keys? Any other special tips are appreciated.

  How can I create a query for a full outer join across a M2M relationchip using the django QuerySet API? It that is not supported, some hint about creating my own manager to do this would be welcome. Edited to add: @S.Lott: Thanks for the enlightenment. The need for the OUTER JOIN comes from the application. It has to generate a report showing the data entered, even if it still incomplete. I was not aware of the fact that the result would be a new class/model. Your hints will help me quite a bit.

I now got the following code which read all numbers except single numbers (1, 2, 3...) • Need an ASP.NET MVC long running process with user feedback

  I've been trying to create a controller in my project for delivering what could turn out to be quite complex reports. As a result they can take a relatively long time and a progress bar would certainly help users to know that things are progressing. The report will be kicked off via an AJAX request, with the idea being that periodic JSON requests will get the status and update the progress bar. I've been experimenting with the AsyncController as that seems to be a nice way of running long processes without tying up resources, but it doesn't appear to give me any way of checking on the progress (and seems to block further JSON requests and I haven't discovered why yet). After that I've tried resorting to storing progress in a static variable on the controller and reading the status from that - but to be honest that all seems a bit hacky! All suggestions gratefully accepted!

  Hi all, I have a question about the usage of TCPListener in .NET... I am thinking about a client/server application and being new to this kind of application I have search a bit around the web and the solution which come the more often is to create a new thread for each new client connection. This solution seem fine but I was wondering if it was still usable with a application where you can have thousands of client at the same time ? Of course if there is thousands of client the application will not be hosted on a small desktop but on a real server, but is it the way to design an application for a large number of client ? • Understanding the output of ldd

  I'm having a hard time understanding the output of ldd - Especially the processor identifiers. The string in question is this one: Shortest.so: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, from ']', not stripped I have several questions about it: What does "ELF" mean? I know that's what Linux binaries are called like (Windows Binaries are called PE Binaries, "Portable Executable" Binaries), but isn't ELF an abbreviation for something? What does LSB mean? I can't even guess it... I see the string "Intel" there, now I seriously wonder about the portability of Linux binaries, as ldd seems to expect every binary to be compiled on a intel processor... but what if it wasn't compiled on a Intel processor? Or when I attempt to run the binary on a computer that doesn't run ontop of a Intel processor? Why the ']'? My guess is it should be some sort of Linker identify, but ']' doesn't look much like a Identifier... Thanks in advance

  I have a project under which various distributed applications are placed; the whole project is under a single dll. Hence, if any issue occurs we need to re-build the whole application to run or import to our server. I am looking for the best possible way to make the build process faster and also bit worried about the size of the DLL.   Hi everybody, I've though a bit about the activerecord vs. manual queries in Codeigniter. ActiveRecord is awesome when it's all about standard queries and holds development time really low. However, when there's a need to add some complexity to the queries, the ActiveRecord gets quite complicated to work with. Sub queries or complex joins gives atleast me a lot of headache. Since the current "$this-db-query" -call immediately executes the set query, it can't be combined with normal activeRecord calls. So, what can I do to combine the two methods? Thanks!

  We are using Antlr StringTemplates to give control over how a Entity's Name is output. The basic Stringtemplate is $FirstName$ $Initial$ $LastName$, $Suffix$, $Degree$ I want to add some smarts to that template so that the commas are only output when necessary i.e. The first comma is only output when there is a Suffix or Degree and the second commas is only output if there is a suffix. I tried the following template string bit it does not work. • BigInteger or not BigInteger?

  In Java, most of the primitive types are signed (one bit is used to represent the +/-), and therefore when I am exceed the limits of this type, I can get many strange things, like negative numbers. In the BigInteger class, I have no limits and there are some helpful functions there but it is pretty depressing to convert your beautiful code to work with the BigInteger class, specially when primitive operators don't work there and you must use functions from this class. I was wondering if you had this problem, and if you have any better solution than the BigInteger class? Thank you.

  Hi. I'm sending a message to a NNTP server in order to fetch an article's body. I don't want to wait for the answer to complete, cause I only need the first 3 lines from the body. How can I interrupt the transfer and move on to the next article? Now when I request another's article message body, I still get data from the previous one. The only way that worked for me, was to close the stream and reopen it. In my opinion this is a little bit hardcore, cause I have to login to the server every time I need a new file.   Hey, I've bene working with Objective-C for a while now, and so far I have never really needed to craft my own classes, properly. I am a bit confused with the two arguments you can give the @property(a, b) declaration in a header file. When creating outlets to Interface Builder I usually do @property(nonatomic, retain) but I have no idea what this means. I'm writing a simple class which has a set of properties which will be set from the outside, like [instance setName:@"Bla Bla Bla"]; or I guess like instance.name = @"Bla@" but I would rather the first option. How would I declare this kind of property on a class? Thanks in advanced! Sorry for the n00bish question :-)

  If invoices can be voided, should they be used as quotations? I have an Invoices tables that is created from inventory associated with a Job. I could have a Quotes table as a halfway-house between inventory and invoices, but it feels like I would have duplicate data structures and logic just to handle an "Is this a quote?" bit.   Okay, I'm fed up with phpDocumentator. It consumes way much more memory and time than I'm willing to give it. Does there exist some really compatible program to generate documentation for PHP code? I've tried PHPDoctor, which looks nice, but it has some missing features. I've also tried PhpDocGen, but it just bails out with some Perl errors, which I'm too lazy to study. Doxygen also does not seem to play well with our sources. PS: The documentation would be for phpMyAdmin, a little bit outdated documentation is here.

  Hi All, Im wanting to organize a series of dates in the following format. As a bit of context, the dates are the dates of upcoming events that can be added by my users. The format: January 2011 date - event date - event date - event February 2011 date - event date - event date - event with all events in a given month, arranged by the date on which they occur.
