• Unwanted automated creation of new instances of an activity class

  I have an activity (called Sender) with the most basic UI, only a button that sends a message when clicked. In the onClickListener I only call this method: private void sendSMS(String msg) { PendingIntent pi = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, new Intent(this, Sender.class), 0); PendingIntent pi = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, myIntent, 0); SmsManager sms = SmsManager.getDefault(); sms.sendTextMessage("1477", null, msg, pi, null); } This works ok, the message is sent but every time a message is sent a new instance of Sender is started on top of the other. If I call sendSMS method three times, three new instances are started. I'm quite new to android so I need some help with this, I only want the same Sender to be on all the time

• MVC - Sanitizing data, where?

  I'm using CakePHP but it's a question about the MVC pattern. I have in my form the input-text for the tags (separated by commas). To add the tags I've created a Tag model method that basically check if the tag exists and then add the new tag or just a new unit in the tag counter (the Tag model has these fields: id, name, slug, count). In the controller I explode the tags field and pass one tag at a time. The question is: where do I sanitize data? In the controller or in the model method? I think it should be in the controller because that's where I explode but in term of reusability I think I should sanitize data in the model. What do you think?

• What's wrong with consuming ConfiguredTaskAwaitable from PortableClassLibrary's class under Debugger from MSTest Runner or Console App?

  *Its only Debug-time error, but a very weird one. Problem: While running with Debugger attached and calling a method, exposed in separate Portable library, returning ConfiguredTaskAwaitable, we get InvalidProgramException. Repro: Having 2 projects: PortableClassLibrary (supporting .Net 4.5; Windows Store; Windows Phone 8) with 1 class: public class Weird { public static ConfiguredTaskAwaitable GetConfiguredTaskAwaitable() { return new ConfiguredTaskAwaitable(); } } ConsoleApplication with code: static void Main(string[] args) { Weird.GetConfiguredTaskAwaitable(); } Notes: replacing ConfiguredTaskAwaitable with ConfiguredTaskAwaitable<T> (a generic version) fixes this strange issue consuming this method form WP8 or Win8 app under Debugger works fine. Currently it causes problems cause I cant run my Unit Tests under Debugger. I'm forced to change my "ObjectUnderTest" implementation to return generic ConfiguredTaskAwaitable<T>, which is fine for the real project, but still is only a workaround. The Question is: does anybody knows the reason of this error? It definitely related to Portable Class Library magic.

  In Javascript, we can call methods on string literals directly without enclosing it within round brackets. But not for other types such as numbers, or functions. It is a syntax error, but is there a reason as to why the Javascript lexer needs these other types to be enclosed in round brackets? For example, if we extend Number, String, and Function with an alert method and try calling this method on the literals, it's a SyntaxError for Number and Function, while it works for a String. function alertValue() { alert(this); } Number.prototype.alert = alertValue; String.prototype.alert = alertValue; Function.prototype.alert = alertValue; We can call alert directly on a string object: "someStringLiteral".alert() // alerts someStringLiteral but it's a SyntaxError on numbers, and functions. 7.alert(); function() {}.alert(); To work with these types, we have to enclose it within brackets: (7).alert(); // alerts "7" (function() {}).alert(); // alerts "function() {}"

  I've written program solving bounded producer & consumer problem. While constructing ArrayBlockingQueue I defined capacity 100. I'm using methods take and put inside threads. And I've noticed that sometimes I see put 102 times with any take's between them. Why does it happen? • Python preprocessing imports

  I am managing a quite large python code base (2000 lines) that I want anyway to be available as a single runnable python script. So I am searching for a method or a tool to merge a development folder, made of different python files into a single running script. The thing/method I am searching for should take code split into different files, maybe with a starting __init___.py file that contains the imports and merge it into a single, big script. Much like a preprocessor. Best if a near-native way, better if I can anyway run from the dev folder. I have already checked out pypp and pypreprocessor but they don't seem to take the point. Something like a strange use of __import__() or maybe a bunch of from foo import * replaced by the preprocessor with the code? Obviously I only want to merge my directory and not common libraries.

• Does a Category applied to NSString also apply to NSCFString via the "toll-free bridge"?

  We're integrating a library into an iPhone app which appears to use the google toolbox for iPhone internally. The google toolbox adds a method gtm_stringBySanitizingAndEscapingForXML to NSString. The problem is, whenever we attempt to make a call to this library we get [NSCFString gtm_stringBySanitizingAndEscapingForXML]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x272478 So it appears the library is calling that method on a NSCFString, to which the category does not apply. So... is it the case that the category will not apply across the toll-free bridge to CoreFoundation classes? If that's the case then we at least know why it's blowing up. Figuring out how to fix it is a different matter.

• jQuery access each matched element from '.find' by an index

  Using jQuery's .find() method to return a set of elements, I am trying to access items in the returned set by their order in that set. For example, a table with two rows and in each row a select box and two text input fields, accessed with the following: $('table#tbl').find('tr.row').each(function(i) { }); To get the first element I would have thought I could use $('table#tbl').find('tr.row').each(function(i) { alert( $(this).find(':input').get(1).val() ); }); And variations of the above, but apparently this doesn't work. Could anyone suggest the correct method to access item x of n elements returned?

• Listing C/C++ functions (Code analysis in Unix)

  Whether we're maintaining unfamiliar code or checking out the implementation details of an Apache module it can help if we can quickly traverse the code and build up an overview of what we're looking at. Grep serves most of my daily needs but there are some cases where it just wont do. Here's a common example of how it can help. To find the definition of a PHP function I'm interested in I can type this at the command line: grep -r "function myfunc" . This could be adapted very quickly to C or C++ if we know the return type, but things become more complicated if, say, I want to list every method that my class provides: grep "function " ./src/mine.class.php Since there's no single keyword that denotes a function or method in C++ and because it's generally more complex syntax, I think I'd need some kind of static code analysis tool, smart use of the C Preprocessor or blind faith the coder followed strict code guidelines (# of whitespace, position of curlies etc) to get these sorts of results. What would you recommend? p.s. be nice, this is my first post ;-) :p

• Exposing console apps to the web with Ruby

  I'm looking to expose an interactive command line program via JSON or another RPC style service using Ruby. I've found a couple tricks to do this, but im missing something when redirecting the output and input. One method at least on linux is to redirect the stdin and stdout to a file then read and write to that file asynchronously with file reads and writes. Another method ive been trying after googling around was to use open4. • UITableView: Need a liveUpdate (Huge amount of cells)

  Hey all, I have a UITableView which shows some information. The informations are from a XMLFile. The Xmlfile is pretty big, about 500 entries. I don't want that the user has to wait until the parsing has finished, i want to add cell by cell to the TableView.   I'm building a Client / Server app that has some very specific needs. There are 2 kinds of servers: the first kind provide most of the remote procedures and clients connect to these directly, while the second kind is a single server that should keep track of what users are active (clients) and how many servers of the first kind are active when a method is called. The main thing is that the monitor should ONLY connect to the servers and not the clients directly. My first idea was to implement a simple login/logout rmi method when a client connects/ disconnects and keep track of those in a list but the main problem is when a client or server end abnormally. For example, if a client goes offline abruptly the server should somehow be notified and update the list accordingly, while if a server goes out all of the clients connected to it should be marked as not active in the control server. Any ideas of how to implement this functionality would be appreciated.

• How much effort does it take to spoof an Ip Address in a call to a webservice?

  I don't want to know how... Just how complicated.... I'm thinking of securing a webservice or 2 based on the incoming client ipaddress of the caller. Is this in any way secure? Surely if the IPaddress was being spoofed then the result would have to be sent back to the address that was being spoofed and therefore not reach the spoofer? Update: Ok so from what I can tell.... I should create a Gettoken() method which checks the IPaddress and passes out a cryptographically significant token with a timeout to any valid IP address. This is then required by any other method before any kind of side effect is allowed. Since an Attacker can't (likely) get the token without having a valid IP, he will be unable to validly call any of my "dangerous" webmethods ?

If I call the Method below numerous times within a class: public void Method() { Foo a = new Foo(); a.Delegate1Handler = ViewSomething(); } So I am reinitializing "a" every time but for some reason a.Delegate1Handler is still around from the previous initialization, and therefore ViewSomething() is called again and again and again.... • Multiple key map in c++

  Hi, I'm wondering if any of you know of a c++ associative map container type which I can perform multiple key lookups on. The map needs to have constant time lookups but I don't care if it's ordered or unordered. It just needs to be fast. For example, I want to store a bunch of std::vector objects in a map with an integer and a void* as the lookup keys. Both the int and the void* must match for my vector to be retrieved. Does anything like this exist already? Or am I going to have to roll my own. If so, any suggestions? I've been trying to store a boost::unordered_map inside another boost::unordered_map, but I have not had any success with this method yet. Maybe I will continue Pershing this method if there is no simpler way. Thanks!

• Arraylist can't compare objects after they are loaded from disk

  To make it easy, lets say I have an arraylist allBooks containing class "books" and an arraylist someBooks containing some but not all of the "books". Using contains() method worked fine when I wanted to see if a book from one arraylist was also contained in another. The problem was that this isn't working anymore when I save both of the Arraylists to a .bin file and load them back once the program restarts. Doing the same test as before, the contains() returns false even if the compared objects are the same (have the same info inside). I solved it by overloading the equals method and it works fine, but I want to know why did this happen?
