  • help understanding the concept of javascript callbacks with node.js, especially in loops

    hi I am just starting with node.js. I have done a little ajax stuff but nothing too complicated so callbacks are still kind of over my head. I looked at async but all I need is to run a few functions sequentially. I basically have something that pulls some json from an api, creates a new one and then does something with that. obviously i can't just run it because it runs everything at once and has an empty json. mostly they have to go sequentially but if while pulling a json from the api it can pull other json while it's waiting that is fine. I just got confused when putting the callback in a loop. what do I do with the index? i think i have seen some places that use callback inside the loop as kind of a recusive function and don't use for loops at all. simple examples would help alot thanks!

  • Finding matching columns in excel

    I've never used excel before so I need the simplest solution available, and this is a work assignment due this week so I didn't have time read much of the documentation. Basically, I have two tables, A and B, and they are both thousands of rows long. Description of my task: right now (since I don't know better) I'm manually doing this: Go to row i in table B. Select entries in columns B(a, b, c) of that same row. Look for a row in table A where column A(b) matches row B(a). Paste the entries of columns B(a) of row i at the end of the row found in the last step. Repeat for row i + 1. Example: row B(cat, dog, mouse) matches A(mammal, cat, Mr. Whiskers). So I would paste B after A and have A(mammal, cat, Mr. Whiskers, cat, dog, mouse). Note: I am not joining tables. I am merely extending table A by pasting row A(b) if row A(b) matches row B(a). Also, sometimes entries are spelled slightly differently. Using wildcards to search for candidates would be of help. As the description should let on, this task is very tedious and inefficient if I don't know how to automate some operations (there are thousands of entries). Any quick tips as to how to be more productive is a big help.

    I'm learning to apply MVP to a simple WinForms app (only one form) in C# and encountered an issue while creating the main presenter in static void Main(). Is it a good idea to expose a View from the Presenter in order to supply it as a parameter to Application.Run()? Currently, I've implemented an approach which allows me to not expose the View as a property of Presenter: static void Main() { IView view = new View(); Model model = new Model(); Presenter presenter = new Presenter(view, model); presenter.Start(); Application.Run(); } The Start and Stop methods in Presenter: public void Start() { view.Start(); } public void Stop() { view.Stop(); } The Start and Stop methods in View (a Windows Form): public void Start() { this.Show(); } public void Stop() { // only way to close a message loop called // via Application.Run(); without a Form parameter Application.Exit(); } The Application.Exit() call seems like an inelegant way to close the Form (and the application). The other alternative would be to expose the View as a public property of the Presenter in order to call Application.Run() with a Form parameter. static void Main() { IView view = new View(); Model model = new Model(); Presenter presenter = new Presenter(view, model); Application.Run(presenter.View); } The Start and Stop methods in Presenter remain the same.   • Can't boot Ubuntu 12.10 graphics problem

    I can't boot since installing Ubuntu 12.10 When I try to run Ubuntu My computer never gets to the Ubuntu screen with the loading dots. I tried to run in recovery mode with safe graphics (failsafex) When I do this a message pops up saying "the system is running in low graphics mode", If I click okay I am asked what would I like to do and am given four options. I tried running low graphics for one session and then a message appears with a progress bar and says standby one minute while the display restarts. The progress bar never moves and if I click okay the whole process just restarts. I Don't know what to do from here I can't get into the OS. I'm not sure whether the problem is related to compatibility with my laptop monitor or my graphic card nvidia360m I had to install using a safe graphics mode. Can't install Ubuntu since 10.10 ----UPDATE--- I was able to get into a desktop environment By installing Nvidia-current however it is messy. I have a screen and I am able to see my desktop however there is no unity bar and none of the keyboard controls work. I can right click and create a folder on the desktop and then I can see inside that folder in a traditional browser window. There is still no top menu or unity bar. When I boot normally I don't get into the desktop environment and I get this message in tty 'GPU lockup switching to software FBCON' Okay, I've played around with tips the pages from comments. I've been able to consistantly get into a safemode desktop environment using the xorg & nouveau drivers. I've tried switching between the 5 different options in the Additional Drivers tab in Software Sources. The nVidia (proprietary, tested) driver gets beyond the GPU lockup on a normal boot and actually gets into a Desktop. The issue is then that there is no Unity bar, or top screen menu bar and the resolution is very low. I've tried switching to the (prop, tested) driver and then reinstalling Unity and Ubuntu-Desktop but that didn't work either.

    I am trying to figure out the syntax to register a callback with this 3rd party software. I think it is probably a basic question, I just am not too familiar with c++. They have a method for registering a callback function so their code can call a function in my code when an event happens.   • How many bytes does Oracle use when storing a single character?

    I tried to look here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/datatype.htm#i3253 And I understand that I have to provide string length for the column, I'm just not able to find out how many bytes oracle uses when storing a character. My limit is 500 characters, so if its 1 byte / character, I can create the column with 500, if its 2 byte / character then 1000, etc. Anyone have a link to the documentation or know for certain? In case it matters, the SQL is being called from PHP, so these are PHP strings I'm inserting into the database. Thanks.

    All examples I find on shuffling arrays are for NSMutableArrays. Copying an NSArray to an NSMutable array, shuffling, then copying back always crashes the application. Is it even possible to shuffle an NSArray? Anything in objective-c similar to Collections.shuffle() (Java)?

  • How to create XSD schema from XML with this kind of structure (in .net)?

    Here's the problem: my input is XML file that looks something like: <BaseEntityClassInfo> <item> <key>BaseEntityClassInfo.SomeField</key> <value>valueData1</value> </item> <item> <key>BaseEntityClassInfo.AdditionalDataClass.SomeOtherField</key> <value>valueData2</value> </item> <item> <key>BaseEntityClassInfo.AdditionalDataClass.AnotherClassInfo.DisplayedText</key> <value>valueData3</value> </item> ... ... </BaseEntityClassInfo> The <key> element somehow describes entity classes fields and relationships (used in some other app that I don't have access to) and the <value> stores the actual data that I need. My goal is to programatically generate a typed Dataset from this XML that could then be used for creating reports. I thought of building some XSD schema from input XML file first and then use this schema to generate Dataset but I'm not sure how to do that. The problem is that I don't want all data in one table, I need several tables with relationships based on the <key> value so I guess I need to infer relational structure from XML <key> data in some way. So what do you think? How could this be done and what would be the best approach? Any advice, ideas, suggestions would be appreciated!

    What debugging tools are available for directshow filters? Presently, I have a project that compiles and registers a video source filter that I then setup a graph in GraphEdit. I am using c++ in visual studio 2008. Is it possible to get a debugger attached to the filter in any way where I could set break points, inspect variables, etc? Barring that is there a way to log diagnostic information somewhere that I can view in real time?

  • Is it OK to re-create many SQL connections (SQL 2008)

    When performing many inserts into a database I would usually have code like this: using (var connection = new SqlConnection(connStr)) { connection.Open(); foreach (var item in items) { var cmd = new SqlCommand("INSERT ...") cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } I now want to shard the database and therefore need to choose the connection string based on the item being inserted. This would make my code run more like this foreach (var item in items) { connStr = GetConnectionString(item); using (var connection = new SqlConnection(connStr)) { connection.Open(); var cmd = new SqlCommand("INSERT ...") cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } Which basically means it's creating a new connection to the database for each item. Will this work or will recreating connections for each insert cause terrible overhead?

I want to load a series of textures that are numbered consecutively (ie. MyImage0001.jpg, MyImage0002.jpg, etc) But c++'s crazy strings confuse me.   • urllib2.Request() with data returns empty url

    My main concern is the function: getUrlAndHtml() If I manually build and append the query to the end of the uri, I can get the response.url(), but if I pass a dictionary as the request data, the url does not come back. Is there anyway to guarantee the redirected url? In my example below, if thisWorks = True I get back a url, but the returned url is the request url as opposed to a redirect link.     I am interested in a way how to read GPU temperature (graphics processing unit, main chip of graphic card), by using some video card driver API? Everyone knows that there two different chip manufacturers (popular ones, at least) - ATI and nVIDIA - so there are two different kinds of drivers to read temperature from. I'm interested in learning how to do it for each different card driver. Language in question is irrelevant - it could be C/C++, .NET platform, Java, but let's say that .NET is preferred.   • Does C# allow method overloading, PHP style (__call)?

    In PHP, there is a special method named __call($calledMethodName, $arguments), which allows class to catch calls to non-existing methods, and do something about it. Since most of classic languages are strongly typed, compiler won't allow calling a method that does not exist, I'm clear with that part. What I want to accomplish (and I figured this is how I would do it in PHP, but C# is something else) is to proxy calls to a class methods and log each of these calls. Right now, I have code similar to this: class ProxyClass { static logger; public AnotherClass inner { get; private set; } public ProxyClass() { inner = new AnotherClass(); } } class AnotherClass { public void A() {} public void B() {} public void C() {} // ... } // meanwhile, in happyCodeLandia... ProxyClass pc = new ProxyClass(); pc.inner.A(); pc.inner.B(); // ... So, how can I proxy calls to an object instance in extensible way? Extensible, meaning that I don't have to modify ProxyClass whenever AnotherClass changes. In my case, AnotherClass can have any number of methods, so it wouldn't be appropriate to overload or wrap all methods to add logging. I am aware that this might not be the best approach for this kind of problem, so if anyone has idea what approach to use, shoot. Thanks!
