  • Could this be considered a well-written class (am I using OOP correctly)?

    - by Ben Dauphinee
    I have been learning OOP principals on my own for a while, and taken a few cracks at writing classes. What I really need to know now is if I am actually using what I have learned correctly, or if I could improve as far as OOP is concerned. I have chopped a massive portion of code out of a class that I have been working on for a while now, and pasted it here. To all you skilled and knowledgeable programmers here I ask: Am I doing it wrong? class acl extends genericAPI{ // -- Copied from genericAPI class protected final function sanityCheck($what, $check, $vars){ switch($check){ case 'set': if(isset($vars[$what])){return(1);}else{return(0);} break; } } // --------------------------------- protected $db = null; protected $dataQuery = null; public function __construct(Zend_Db_Adapter_Abstract $db, $config = array()){ $this->db = $db; if(!empty($config)){$this->config = $config;} } protected function _buildQuery($selectType = null, $vars = array()){ // Removed switches for simplicity sake $this->dataQuery = $this->db->select( )->from( $this->config['table_users'], array('tf' => '(CASE WHEN count(*) > 0 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END)') )->where( $this->config['uidcol'] . ' = ?', $vars['uid'] ); } protected function _sanityRun_acl($sanitycheck, &$vars){ switch($sanitycheck){ case 'uid_set': if(!$this->sanityCheck('uid', 'set', $vars)){ throw new Exception(ERR_ACL_NOUID); } $vars['uid'] = settype($vars['uid'], 'integer'); break; } } private function user($action = null, $vars = array()){ switch($action){ case 'exists': $this->_sanityRun_acl('uid_set', $vars); $this->_buildQuery('user_exists_idcheck', $vars); return($this->db->fetchOne($this->dataQuery->__toString())); break; } } public function user_exists($uid){ return($this->user('exists', array('uid' => $uid))); } } $return = $acl_test->user_exists(1);

  • How can I programmatically determine if my workstation is locked?

    - by AgentConundrum
I'm writing up some productivity/metrics tools for myself to help monitor my focus throughout the day. Recently, I've noticed that I tend to get off track more than usual and feel the need to get up and go for walks/drinks/etc and I'm concerned that I'm "wasting" too much time. Since I always lock my computer when I go anywhere, and I unlock it as soon as I return (even if I'm just reading at my desk, etc), I was wondering how I can determine, in code, how long the machine is locked. I'm writing this in C# if that helps, but I'm open to other ideas. I like the windows service idea (and have accepted it) for simplicity and cleanliness, but unfortunately I don't think it will work for me in this particular case. I wanted to run this on my workstation at work rather than home (or in addition to home, I suppose), but it's locked down pretty hard courtesy of the DoD. That's part of the reason I'm rolling my own, actually. I'll write it up anyway and see if it works. Thanks everyone!

  • Object for storing strings geted from prints

    - by evg
class MyWriter: def __init__(self, stdout): self.stdout = stdout self.dumps = [] def write(self, text): self.stdout.write(smart_unicode(text).encode('cp1251')) self.dumps.append(text) def close(self): self.stdout.close() writer = MyWriter(sys.stdout) save = sys.stdout sys.stdout = writer I use self.dumps list to store geted data from prints. Is it exists more convinient object for storing string lines in memory? ideally i want dump it to one big string. I can get it like this "\n".join(self.dumps) from code above. Mb it's better to just concat strings - self.dumps += text ?

  • What are the hot languages of 2009?

It is well-accepted that we should all learn something new every six months. But what should top the list for 2009? What new things should we learn this year that appear to have real staying power? (Answers do not have to be limited to languages.)

  • Multiple Foreign keys to a single table and single key pointing to more than one table

    - by user1216775
I need some suggestions from the database design experts here. I have around six foreign keys into a single table (defect) which all point to primary key in user table. It is like: defect (.....,assigned_to,created_by,updated_by,closed_by...) If I want to get information about the defect I can make six joins. Do we have any better way to do it? Another one is I have a states table which can store one of the user-defined set of values. I have defect table and task table and I want both of these tables to share the common state table (New, In Progress etc.). So I created: task (.....,state_id,type_id,.....) defect(.....,state_id,type_id,...) state(state_id,state_name,...) importance(imp_id,imp_name,...) There are many such common attributes along with state like importance(normal, urgent etc), priority etc. And for all of them I want to use same table. I am keeping one flag in each of the tables to differentiate task and defect. What is the best solution in such a case? If somebody is using this application in health domain, they would like to assign different types, states, importances for their defect or tasks. Moreover when a user selects any project I want to display all the types, states etc under configuration parameters section.

  • What's a good starting point, tutorial, or project, to learn database programming?

    - by DarthNoodles
I've been a Software Developer now for over 10 years. I've mostly worked in Embedded C with some time spent on C++ (limited) and Java. I'm looking to learn some new technologies and skills. I thought that database programming may be interesting to learn. I would like to make my own pet project in order to learn these things. My platform of choice is Windows but can work in Linux also. My ideal pet project would involve a GUI and some network/internet programming also which I have some experience doing. I wouldn't mind getting into C# but don't want to bite off more than I can chew right now as my spare time is limited. If I understand correctly SQLite allows for programs to use a database without running an ODBC server. Is this correct? Is that a good place to start? What can I do to start that is not too complicated but not so simple that I won't learn the details also? Your opinions and feedback would be appreciated.

  • overriding callbacks avoiding attribute pollution

    - by pygabriel
I've a class that has some callbacks and its own interface, something like: class Service: def __init__(self): connect("service_resolved", self.service_resolved) def service_resolved(self, a,b c): ''' This function is called when it's triggered service resolved signal and has a lot of parameters''' the connect function is for example the gtkwidget.connect, but I want that this connection is something more general, so I've decided to use a "twisted like" approach: class MyService(Service): def my_on_service_resolved(self, little_param): ''' it's a decorated version of srvice_resolved ''' def service_resolved(self,a,b,c): super(MyService,self).service_resolved(a,b,c) little_param = "something that's obtained from a,b,c" self.my_on_service_resolved(little_param) So I can use MyService by overriding my_on_service_resolved. The problem is the "attributes" pollution. In the real implementation, Service has some attributes that can accidentally be overriden in MyService and those who subclass MyService. How can I avoid attribute pollution? What I've thought is a "wrapper" like approach but I don't know if it's a good solution: class WrapperService(): def __init__(self): self._service = service_resolved # how to override self._service.service_resolved callback? def my_on_service_resolved(self,param): ''' '''

  • If you had to work with horrible HTML, what would you do?

    - by Doug
I was looking over some of my friend's HTML and CSS, and I was speechless (in a bad way). If I had to work with that, such as putting AJAX into it, then it would have been a lot of work. I would have to rebuild a lot of the HTML aspects, otherwise it wouldn't work well with the AJAX. What would you do in a situation like so? Would you just edit at the minimum? Would you do a overhaul and redo the whole HTML aspect? Would you go back to the client and ask for more money because it was a lot more work than expected? I'm interested in strategies and approaches and how it's done out in the field.

There was something like this with Referer I beleve, but can't remember. btw I am also using: if (isset($_POST['Submit'])) { // prevent resending data header("Location: " . $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']); } to avoid the annoying resending data message when the user clicks the back button. Is this correct?

  • How can architects work with self-organizing Scrum teams?

    - by Martin Wickman
An organization with a number of agile Scrum teams also has a small group of people appointed as "enterprise architects". The EA group acts as control and gatekeeper for quality and adherence to decisions. This leads to overlaps between the team decision and EA decisions. For instance, the team might want to use library X or want to use REST instead of SOAP, but the EA does not approve of that. Now, this can lead to frustration when team decisions are overruled. Taken far enough, it can potentially lead to a situation where the EA people "grabs" all power and the team ends up feeling demotivated and not very agile at all. The Scrum guides has this to say about it: Self-organizing: No one (not even the Scrum Master) tells the Development Team how to turn Product Backlog into Increments of potentially releasable functionality. Is that reasonable? Should the EA team be disbanded? Should the teams refuse or simply comply?

  • How to self Motivate technically to put my ideas into execution or just getting a job at MNC like google or microsoft..

    - by Demla Pawan
I mean, How to self Motivate to get a job at google or create another google in future. ,as there is no mentor who can guide me on this topic, so asked it here: I'm a Graduate in BE IT,but with less grades, with interest in learning new programming languages, but not yet done anything great like developed some system or anything. And I'm left with 2 more years to prove my worth to someone. So,is their a quick guide to start learning a language and then just go on implementing your ideas and it gets appreciated or I get a good Job ant Big MNC's. By the way, I just build one website for my one client and running my wordpress blog. And I had tried my hands on basic of C++,Java,JS,JSP,PHP,Ubuntu, web designing in past.

  • What are some concise and comprehensive introductory guide to unit testing for a self-taught programmer [closed]

    - by Superbest
I don't have much formal training in programming and I have learned most things by looking up solutions on the internet to practical problems I have. There are some areas which I think would be valuable to learn, but which ended up both being difficult to learn and easy to avoid learning for a self-taught programmer. Unit testing is one of them. Specifically, I am interested in tests in and for C#/.NET applications using Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools in Visual Studio 2010 and/or 2012, but I really want a good introduction to the principles so language and IDE shouldn't matter much. At this time I'm interested in relatively trivial tests for small or medium sized programs (development time of weeks or months and mostly just myself developing). I don't necessarily intend to do test-driven development (I am aware that some say unit testing alone is supposed to be for developing features in TDD, and not an assurance that there are no bugs in the software, but unit testing is often the only kind of testing for which I have resources). I have found this tutorial which I feel gave me a decent idea of what unit tests and TDD looks like, but in trying to apply these ideas to my own projects, I often get confused by questions I can't answer and don't know how to answer, such as: What parts of my application and what sorts of things aren't necessarily worth testing? How fine grained should my tests be? Should they test every method and property separately, or work with a larger scope? What is a good naming convention for test methods? (since apparently the name of the method is the only way I will be able to tell from a glance at the test results table what works in my program and what doesn't) Is it bad to have many asserts in one test method? Since apparently VS2012 reports only that "an Assert.IsTrue failed within method MyTestMethod", and if MyTestMethod has 10 Assert.IsTrue statements, it will be irritating to figure out why a test is failing. If a lot of the functionality deals with writing and reading data to/from the disk in a not-exactly trivial fashion, how do I test that? If I provide a bunch of files as input by placing them in the program's directory, do I have to copy those files to the test project's bin/Debug folder now? If my program works with a large body of data and execution takes minutes or more, should my tests have it do the whole use all of the real data, a subset of it, or simulated data? If latter, how do I decide on the subset or how to simulate? Closely related to the previous point, if a class is such that its main operation happens in a state that is arrived to by the program after some involved operations (say, a class makes calculations on data derived from a few thousands of lines of code analyzing some raw data) how do I test just that class without inevitably ending up testing that class and all the other code that brings it to that state along with it? In general, what kind of approach should I use for test initialization? (hopefully that is the correct term, I mean preparing classes for testing by filling them in with appropriate data) How do I deal with private members? Do I just suck it up and assume that "not public = shouldn't be tested"? I have seen people suggest using private accessors and reflection, but these feel like clumsy and unsuited for regular use. Are these even good ideas? Is there anything like design patterns concerning testing specifically? I guess the main themes in what I'd like to learn more about are, (1) what are the overarching principles that should be followed (or at least considered) in every testing effort and (2) what are popular rules of thumb for writing tests. For example, at one point I recall hearing from someone that if a method is longer than 200 lines, it should be refactored - not a universally correct rule, but it has been quite helpful since I'd otherwise happily put hundreds of lines in single methods and then wonder why my code is so hard to read. Similarly I've found ReSharpers suggestions on member naming style and other things to be quite helpful in keeping my codebases sane. I see many resources both online and in print that talk about testing in the context of large applications (years of work, 10s of people or more). However, because I've never worked on such large projects, this context is very unfamiliar to me and makes the material difficult to follow and relate to my real world problems. Speaking of software development in general, advice given with the assumptions of large projects isn't always straightforward to apply to my own, smaller endeavors. Summary So my question is: What are some resources to learn about unit testing, for a hobbyist, self-taught programmer without much formal training? Ideally, I'm looking for a short and simple "bible of unit testing" which I can commit to memory, and then apply systematically by repeatedly asking myself "is this test following the bible of testing closely enough?" and then amending discrepancies if it doesn't.

  • NSURLConnection not "firing" until UITableView scrolls..

    - by Simon
Hi, I've got a UITableView that loads an image asynchronously and places it in the UITableViewCell once it's loaded (I'm using almost the exact same code as in the "LazyTableImages" tutorial). This works fine for all images when I scroll the table, but it's not loading the images that are first in the view. The code is definitely working fine as the class that actually sends the NSURLConnection request is being called correctly (I added an NSLog and it reached the console). The NSURLConnection is just not calling the delegate methods (didReceiveData, connectionDidFinishLoading, etc). Here's my code: HomeController.m - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; NSArray *feed = [feeds objectAtIndex: indexPath.row]; /** * Name of person */ [...] /** * Feed entry */ [...] /** * Misc work */ [...] } FeedRecord *feedRecord = [self.entries objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; if( !feedRecord.image ) { if (self.table.dragging == NO && self.table.decelerating == NO) { [self startIconDownload:feedRecord forIndexPath:indexPath]; } cell.imageView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"Placeholder.png"]; } return cell; } - (void)startIconDownload:(FeedRecord *)feedRecord forIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { IconDownloader *iconDownloader = [imageDownloadsInProgress objectForKey:indexPath]; if (iconDownloader == nil) { iconDownloader = [[IconDownloader alloc] init]; iconDownloader.feedRecord = feedRecord; iconDownloader.indexPathInTableView = indexPath; iconDownloader.delegate = self; [imageDownloadsInProgress setObject:iconDownloader forKey:indexPath]; [iconDownloader startDownload]; [iconDownloader release]; } } IconDownload.m #import "IconDownloader.h" #import "FeedRecord.h" #define kAppIconHeight 48 @implementation IconDownloader @synthesize feedRecord; @synthesize indexPathInTableView; @synthesize delegate; @synthesize activeDownload; @synthesize imageConnection; #pragma mark - (void)dealloc { [feedRecord release]; [indexPathInTableView release]; [activeDownload release]; [imageConnection cancel]; [imageConnection release]; [super dealloc]; } - (void)startDownload { NSLog(@"%@ %@",@"Started downloading", feedRecord.profilePicture); // this shows in log self.activeDownload = [NSMutableData data]; // alloc+init and start an NSURLConnection; release on completion/failure NSURLConnection *conn = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest: [NSURLRequest requestWithURL: [NSURL URLWithString:feedRecord.profilePicture]] delegate:self]; self.imageConnection = conn; NSLog(@"%@",conn); // this shows in log [conn release]; } - (void)cancelDownload { [self.imageConnection cancel]; self.imageConnection = nil; self.activeDownload = nil; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Download support (NSURLConnectionDelegate) - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data { NSLog(@"%@ %@",@"Got data for", feedRecord.profilePicture); [self.activeDownload appendData:data]; } - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)error { NSLog(@"%@",@"Fail!"); // Clear the activeDownload property to allow later attempts self.activeDownload = nil; // Release the connection now that it's finished self.imageConnection = nil; } - (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { NSLog(@"%@ %@",@"Done", feedRecord.profilePicture); // Set appIcon and clear temporary data/image UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:self.activeDownload]; self.feedRecord.image = image; self.activeDownload = nil; [image release]; // Release the connection now that it's finished self.imageConnection = nil; NSLog(@"%@ %@",@"Our delegate is",delegate); // call our delegate and tell it that our icon is ready for display [delegate feedImageDidLoad:self.indexPathInTableView]; } @end Has anyone else experienced anything like this or can identify an issue with my code? • UIView, UIScrollView and UITextFields problem calling Method

    - by Jeff Groby
I have a view with several embedded UITextFields, this UIView is subordinated to a UIScrollView in IB. Each text field is supposed to invoke a method called updateText defined in the viewcontroller implementation file when the user is done editing the field. For some reason, the method updateText never gets invoked. Anyone have any ideas how to go about fixing this? The method fired off just fine when the UIScrollView was not present in the project but the keyboard would cover the text fields during input, which was annoying. Now my textfields move up above the keyboard when it appears, but won't fire off the method when done editing. Here is my implementation file: #import "MileMarkerViewController.h" @implementation MileMarkerViewController @synthesize scrollView, milemarkerLogDate, milemarkerDesc, milemarkerOdobeg, milemarkerOdoend, milemarkerBusiness, milemarkerPersonal, milemarker; - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { if (self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]) { // Initialization code } return self; } - (BOOL) textFieldShouldReturn: (UITextField*) theTextField { return [theTextField resignFirstResponder]; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver: self selector: @selector(keyboardWasShown:) name: UIKeyboardDidShowNotification object: nil]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver: self selector: @selector(keyboardWasHidden:) name: UIKeyboardDidHideNotification object: nil]; keyboardShown = NO; // 1 [scrollView setContentSize: CGSizeMake( 320, 480)]; // 2 } - (void)keyboardWasShown:(NSNotification*)aNotification { if (keyboardShown) return; NSDictionary* info = [aNotification userInfo]; // Get the size of the keyboard. NSValue* aValue = [info objectForKey:UIKeyboardBoundsUserInfoKey]; CGSize keyboardSize = [aValue CGRectValue].size; // Resize the scroll view (which is the root view of the window) CGRect viewFrame = [scrollView frame]; viewFrame.size.height -= keyboardSize.height; scrollView.frame = viewFrame; // Scroll the active text field into view. CGRect textFieldRect = [activeField frame]; [scrollView scrollRectToVisible:textFieldRect animated:YES]; keyboardShown = YES; } - (void)keyboardWasHidden:(NSNotification*)aNotification { NSDictionary* info = [aNotification userInfo]; // Get the size of the keyboard. NSValue* aValue = [info objectForKey:UIKeyboardBoundsUserInfoKey]; CGSize keyboardSize = [aValue CGRectValue].size; // Reset the height of the scroll view to its original value CGRect viewFrame = [scrollView frame]; viewFrame.size.height += keyboardSize.height; [scrollView scrollRectToVisible:CGRectMake(0, 0, 1, 1) animated:YES]; scrollView.frame = viewFrame; keyboardShown = NO; } - (void)textFieldDidBeginEditing:(UITextField *)textField { activeField = textField; } - (void)textFieldDidEndEditing:(UITextField *)textField { activeField = nil; } - (IBAction)updateText:(id) sender { NSLog(@"You just entered: %@",self.milemarkerLogDate.text); self.milemarker.logdate = self.milemarkerLogDate.text; self.milemarker.desc = self.milemarkerDesc.text; self.milemarker.odobeg = self.milemarkerOdobeg.text; self.milemarker.odoend = self.milemarkerOdoend.text; self.milemarker.business = self.milemarkerBusiness.text; self.milemarker.personal = self.milemarkerPersonal.text; NSLog(@"Original textfield is set to: %@",self.milemarker.logdate); [self.milemarker updateText]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. • Calling popToRootViewControllerAnimated causing crash. How should I be doing this?

    - by Lewis42
The app is for taking body measurements. The user can say I want to measure: legs, arms and neck, in the settings tab and in the main tab there is a view which loops round to take each measurement. This is achieved like so: i have tab controller the first tab has a navigation controller the first view controller on the storyboard and has one segue to itself the board loops round until it has all the measurements then it segues to a different controller the problem is: if the user changes which measurements they are taking in the settings tab, the first tab needs to completely reload, as if the app was just starting up, clearing down the whole nav stack etc. at the moment the tab controller calls popToRootViewControllerAnimated on the navigation controller in the measurements tab, but this is causing a crash. Each screen has a slider control and a call to titleForRow:forComponent: is being called on a deleted view causing it to crash. What am I doing wrong?! Here's the tab bar controller code // TabBarController.m // #import "TabBarController.h" #import "TodaysMeasurementObject.h" #import "AppDelegateProtocol.h" #import "AddMeasurementViewController.h" #import "ReadPerson.h" #import "AppDelegate.h" @interface TabBarController () <UITabBarControllerDelegate> @end @implementation TabBarController bool resetWizardView = false; - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view. self.delegate = self; [[UIDevice currentDevice] beginGeneratingDeviceOrientationNotifications]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(orientationChanged:) name:UIDeviceOrientationDidChangeNotification object:nil]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(measurementsSettingsUpdated:) name:@"MeasurementsSettingsUpdated" object:nil]; } - (void) measurementsSettingsUpdated:(NSNotification *) notification { // UINavigationController *navigationController = [self.viewControllers objectAtIndex:0]; // AddMeasurementViewController *addMeasurement = [[AddMeasurementViewController alloc] init]; // [navigationController setViewControllers: [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:addMeasurement, nil]]; resetWizardView = YES; } - (void) viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated { if (![ReadPerson userHasRecords]) { [self setSelectedIndex:3]; } } - (void)orientationChanged:(NSNotification *)notification { // We must add a delay here, otherwise we'll swap in the new view // too quickly and we'll get an animation glitch [self performSelector:@selector(showGraphs) withObject:nil afterDelay:0]; } - (void)showGraphs { UIDeviceOrientation deviceOrientation = [UIDevice currentDevice].orientation; if (deviceOrientation == UIDeviceOrientationLandscapeLeft && !isShowingLandscapeView) { [self performSegueWithIdentifier: @"toGraph" sender: self]; isShowingLandscapeView = YES; } else if (deviceOrientation != UIDeviceOrientationLandscapeLeft && isShowingLandscapeView) { [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; isShowingLandscapeView = NO; } } - (void)viewDidUnload { [super viewDidUnload]; // Release any retained subviews of the main view. } - (void)dealloc { [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] removeObserver:self]; [[UIDevice currentDevice] endGeneratingDeviceOrientationNotifications]; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { if(interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight) { [self performSegueWithIdentifier: @"toGraph" sender: self]; } return false; } - (void)tabBarController:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { int tbi = tabBarController.selectedIndex; if (tbi == 0) { [[viewController view] setNeedsDisplay]; if (resetWizardView) { [(UINavigationController*)[self.viewControllers objectAtIndex:0] popToRootViewControllerAnimated: NO]; // ******* POP CALLED HERE ****** resetWizardView = false; } } } - (TodaysMeasurementObject*) theAppDataObject { id<AppDelegateProtocol> theDelegate = (id<AppDelegateProtocol>) [UIApplication sharedApplication].delegate; TodaysMeasurementObject* theDataObject; theDataObject = (TodaysMeasurementObject*) theDelegate.theAppDataObject; return theDataObject; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotate { return NO; } - (NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations { return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskPortrait; } @end UPDATED - (void) measurementsSettingsUpdated:(NSNotification *) notification { NSMutableArray *viewControllers = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithArray: self.viewControllers]; UINavigationController *navigationController = [viewControllers objectAtIndex:0]; AddMeasurementViewController *addMeasurement = [[AddMeasurementViewController alloc] init]; [navigationController setViewControllers: [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:addMeasurement, nil]]; [viewControllers setObject:navigationController atIndexedSubscript:0]; self.viewControllers = viewControllers; } and removed the code from - tabBarController:didSelectViewController: but still the same error. I think the problem is that it's trying to get a value for the slide control after the view has been deleted. But some part of the view must still be alive...? Anyway to kill that off? Or leave it all alive??
