  • Connect to a VPN from a Virtual Machine

    I am running an Ubuntu ditro inside a VMWare virtual machine with a bridged connection on a windows 7 host. What I am trying to do is to have the virtual machine connect to a VPN, but I'm not having much success. At first, the system was using wicd, but I replaced it with network-manager who's supposed to have OpenVPN support. The problem is, even tho i've purged the wicd installation, there're connections shown in the network manager, and still, I'm able to access the net. I've also added the openvpn data in the network manager tab, but it's shown as never used. PS: when I try to stop and start the NetworkManager service, an error message pops up telling me that there's not such a service, but apt-get tells me i've already installed it...

  • How can I get my printer working after upgrading to (K)ubuntu 13.10?

    When using (K)ubuntu 13.04, my network printer worked fine. After upgrading to (K)ubuntu 13.10 today, I can no longer print. I get the error "The printer is not responding." I've tried to add the printer again, and it is automatically recognised. I can add it, and select it from print dialogue boxes, but I get the same error. Brother HL-2040, Kubuntu 13.10 (KDE 4.11.2) ==EDIT== I attempted connecting the printer directly with a USB cable, and this worked fine, so it's not a problem with drivers. (FWIW I'm using the recommended HL-2040 Foomatic/hl1250.) Further, it prints fine over the network from my wife's MacBook.

    I had follow this link to setup my first virtual host with apache2 under ubuntu 12.x. Looks easy but is not working. [How to][1] My internal dns can resolv the name, but my browsers is not showing me my webpage. from my lan, Im using ubuntu server no GUI. Every time I point to my virtual host name, I receive apache default page, I cannot see my custom page. My docs are under /home/mydomain/public_html This is my settings: ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost ServerName example.com DocumentRoot /home/example.com/public_html Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow,deny allow from all The rest of the file is the same. No, I even try to change the port from *:80 to *:81, restart and don't see apache listen to port 81. My localDNS running in other machine works. What I forget?

  • The network printer will only print blank pages and will not stop. What should I do?

    I work in a library, so we have a Ricoh printer that is networked between all of us. I just recently installed Ubuntu 11.10 64bit on my desktop and have been trying to set up the printer without success. Ubuntu found the printer immediately and allowed me to set it up. When I hit test print, I get one sheet with writing on it and then it prints blank pages and will not stop until I turn off the printer. I tried printing from a document and I get the same one page with writing and then all the blank pages again. Below is what the page says with writing on it.   • Is it ok to throw NotImplemented exception in virtual methods?

    I have a base class for some plugin-style stuff, and there are some methods that are absolutely required to be implemented. I currently declare those in the base class as virtual, for example public virtual void Save { throw new NotImplementedException(); } and in the descendand I have a public override void Save() { //do stuff } Is it a good practice to throw a NotImplementedException there? The descendand classes could for example be the modules for handling different file formats. Thanks

  • Trouble printing to local printer when connected to VPN with split-tunneling enabled

    I'm a volunteer network admin for a multi-tenant non-profit office space. One of our new tenants uses a VPN to connect to remote resources using RRAS and Small Business Server 2008. They also have a local network printer for the workstations in our office. When connected to the VPN, they cannot print to the local printer. I informed their network admin that they need to enable split-tunneling to fix this. Their network admin enabled split-tunneling, but apparently printing still didn't work. He told me that I need to open port 1723 on our office firewall to allow it to work. I'm just a novice administrator and not familiar with RRAS, but this doesn't sound right to me and I haven't been able to find anything on the web to validate it. Additionally, my understanding of split-tunneling is that it is handled entirely by the VPN client and should work irrespective of firewall settings. Is my understanding of the situation incorrect? What steps should I take to resolve this problem?

  • printer assignments for windows xp workstations within an active directory environment

    I'm using the following script to handle removing any old networked printers from machines and then assigning the propper ones and making one of them the default. This script is assigned to the OU the workstations reside in and uses group policy loopback so all users that login will get the appropriate printers mapped for them. I tried to use the new Printer Manager as part of W2K3 R2 but when assigning the default this way I get an error that the printer doesn't exist so I'm back to using the script. One flaw that I'm noticing is that it won't remove any printers that happen to be mapped from an RDP session (we don't see this everywhere but there are a few locations). Is there any way to enumerate all RDP printers and remove them similar to how I'm enumerating and removing networked printers? ' ' Printers.vbs - Windows Logon Script.     hi I when i am trying to run virtual machine on VMW 6.5 it shows me following error. "Not enough physical memory is available to power on this virtual machine with its configured settings. To fix this problem, adjust the additional memory settings to allow more virtual machine memory to be swapped. If you were able to power on this virtual machine on this host computer in the past, try rebooting the host computer. Rebooting may allow you to use slightly more host memory to run virtual machines." i have also tried options that are suggested from above error, but still its not working.     There is a physical DC with a Raid 1 Mirror, 2 Physical Disks, 500GB each. Dell Server Administrator is installed on the DC, and is reporting both physical disks are fine, online, in a good state etc. On a PERC S300 Raid Controller: Physical Disk 0:0 Physical Disk 0:1 However at the same time it's reporting that a virtual disk is degraded, what exactly does this mean? The virtual disk indicates it's State is in a Raid 1 Layout. Device Name: Windows Disk 0 If my understanding is correct then the Virtual Disk, when you drill down into Dell OpenManage should have both physical disks as members, as it is a mirror? Is this correct? However, when I drill down into the Virtual Disk, it only displays Physical Disk 0:0 included in Virtual Disk 1. I'm very new to server side/raid management etc. just while our server techy is away! Thanks!

    Is there any virtual desktop software that can virtualize desktop just like a virtual desktop to sandbox (sort of like virtualization and sandbox combined). I want to create many desktop and each of them must be sandbox. For example if I have virus infected in one of the desktop, I just have to clear or close the desktop and everything is fine. Is there any software that can do that kind of jobs that I have mentioned? Remember I am not asking recommendation of software, but the software that can do the job. UPDATE: I mean that every virtual desktop is working as a virtual box or sandbox. Clearing or closing the desktop will work as shutting down that virtual box.

I want to use a Puppet to configure them and next try to setup OpenStack. I am not sure If I am understanding how this should look at the end.   • URL redirect to a virtual server on a VLAN

    I have a production site, running off 10 servers. I've been given another virtual server on the same network as these 10 servers, to use for testing purposes. This server doesn't have it's own DNS entry. Therefore I need to do a redirect to the site hosted on this virtual server for a sub-domain of the site running on the 10 other servers. So Basically I was wondering how I would configure a sub domain of my production server to point at the Virtual server for testing. I'm guessing I need to modify my site file in /etc/apache2/sites-available and add another virtual host like the following and modify the redirect match: <VirtualHost *> ServerName SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN.com RedirectMatch 301 (.*) **IP ADDRESS** CustomLog /var/log/apache2/SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN.com.access.log combined </VirtualHost> Do I set the redirect match to just the IP on the Virtual server, and then configure another site file in the sites-available directory, which will recption this redirect and point the browser towards the HTML root?   • virtual box strectch to fit resolution

    Hey guys I have a really annoying problem, that I hope someone has figured out. I just installed ubuntu on virtual box and installed the guest additions so everything was great. I had a resolution that stretched across my screen from left to right and the only virtual box components that were visible were the windows vista title bar : minimize/exit/maximize buttons and virtual box controls at the bottom. Now all of a sudden now that I have installed the ubuntu 170mb of automatic updates, I see vertical and horizontal scroll bars that are part of virtual box and the ubuntu resolution will not stretch across my screen anymore. What I want is a ubuntu resolution that will stretch to fit the maximized window of virtual box, and remove the scroll bars. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate it.

    We have two MongoDB data nodes (replica set) - Primary & Secondary. I noticed that the non-mapped virtual memory is relatively high and wondering if they are hurting our MongoDB performance (The server usually peaked at around 6-7K queries per sec). In MMS, it was stated: "The most common case of usage of a high amount of memory for non-mapped is that there are very many connections to the database." So we checked the memory usage with db.serverStatus().mem in our Secondary: { "bits" : 64, "resident" : 6846, "virtual" : 416797, "supported" : true, "mapped" : 205549, "mappedWithJournal" : 411098, "note" : "virtual minus mapped is large. could indicate a memory leak" } Note: We are using 2.0.4 and now the default stack size should be 1MB per connection. The current number of connections is around 1.1K, but the non-mapped virtual memory (virtual-mappedWithJournal) is around 5699 MB. The trend is quite stable so I can't say there is a leak here, but where is the memory gone? Any idea?

    My application needs to print invoices, then a get the invoice from database, insert informations os the invoice in a big string (tellling the line, column, etc). after this a have the string ready to be sent to a printer. My problem is: I need to put some ESC/P commands/characters in my big string i try to do something like this: char formFeed = (char)12; Convert.ToChar(12); MyBigString.Insert(10, formFeed); whit this, the line 10 will do a FormFeed, but this not work NOTE: i send the MybigString all at once to printer. to make my code works i need to send the data line by line to a printer ?   • Portable way to determining of printer is physical or virtual

    I need direct-to-printer functionality for my website, with the ability to distinguish a physical printer from a virtual printer (file). Coupons.com has this functionality via a native binary which must be installed by the user. I'd prefer to avoid that. SmartSource.com does it via Java applet: Does anybody know how this is done? I dug through that Java APIs a bit, and don't see anything that would let you determine physical vs virtual, except looking at the name (that seems prone to misidentification). It would be nice to be able to do it in Java, because I already know how to write Java applets. Failing that, is there a way to do this in Flash or Silverlight? Thanks in advance.
