  • Vmware Player network adapters have no network or internet access in Windows 7 enterprise [closed]

    - by daffers
As per the title. My VMWare player installation has setup the two network adaptor VMnet1 and VMnet8 and they are picked up as unidentified networks with no network access (i need this to activate my windows server installation on it). The option to change the network location is not available (this might be because of network policy on the domain despite having set this as configurable in the local security policy section). Is there anyway i can change how these networks are detected or alter the configuration of vmware to get around this?

  • Windows 8 N & Media Player/DVD playback

    - by HaydnWVN
An open-ended question (ie I havn't encountered this yet...) Being in the UK I consider it only a matter of time until I come across the following scenario: Windows 8 Pro N install where the End User wants DVD playback without installing all the Media Player 'add-ins' to enable it. Will just installing codecs and then some playback software work? (ie no huge downloads from Windows Update - consider this user to only want Crtical Updates due to a slow internet connection.)

  • Changing Flash player of Firefox cache

    - by Prasenjit Chatterjee
I want to relocate the Flash player plugin of Firefox cache so that it saves my C: drive space when I watch youtube videos. I successfully changed the firefox cache by opening about:config and then created a new string key "browser.cache.disk.parent_directory" where I put the value of the new cache location. But it doesn't work with online streaming contents such as youtube videos. Please guide me where does it get stored and how to change its cache into another drive.

  • how to know if a video file can be played on a dvd player

    - by user23950
Is there an application that can emulate a dvd player? I've converted a .mp4 video using allok video converter. And choose the output format to be xVid(.avi)<--that is exactly what is written on the application. I don't want to waste a blank dvd and try if it really can be played. So if you have tried this before please tell me if it works. And I have tried burning .avi files and it works because they are genuine avi files which I did not convert

  • Database design for a media server containing movies, music, tv and everything in between?

    - by user364114
In the near future I am attempting to design a media server as a personal project. MY first consideration to get the project underway is architecture, it will certainly be web based but more specifically than that I am looking for suggestions on the database design. So far I am considering something like the following, where I am using [] to represent a table, the first text is the table name to give an idea of purpose and the items within {} would be fields of the table. Also not, fid is functional id referencing some other table. [Item {id, value/name, description, link, type}] - this could be any entity, single song or whole music album, game, movie - almost see this as a recursive relation, ie. a song is an item but an album that song is part of is also an item or for example a tv season is an item, with multiple items being tv episodes [Type {id, fid, mime type, etc}] - file type specific information - could identify how code handles streaming/sending this item to a user [Location {id, fid, path to file?}] [Users {id, username, email, password, ...? }] - user account information [UAC {id, fid, acess level}] - i almost feel its more flexible to seperate access control permissions form the user accounts themselves [ItemLog {id, fid, fid2, timestamp}] - fid for user id, and fid2 for item id - this way we know what user access what when [UserLog {id, fid, timestamp}] -both are logs for access, whether login or last item access [Quota {id, fid, cap}] - some sort of way to throttle users from queing up the entire site and letting it download ... Suggestions or comments are welcome as the hope is that this project will be a open source project once some code is laid out.

  • Difficulty restoring a differential backup in SQL Server, 2 media families are expected or no files

    - by digiguru
I have sql backups copied from server A to server B on a nightly basis. We want to move the sql server from server A to server B without much downtime, but the files are very large. I assumed that performing a differential backup and restore would solve the problem with the databases. Copy full backup from server A to copy to server B (10+gb) Open SQL Server Managment Studio on server B Right mouse on databases Restore Database Type in the new DB-name Choose "From Device" and browse to the backup file Click Okay. This is now resorting the original "full" backup. Test new db with dev application - everything works :) On original database rightmouse on DB Tasks Backup... Backup Type = Differential, Backup to disk, add a new file, and remove the old one (it needs to be a small file to transfer for the smallest amount of outage) Copy the diff backup onto the new db Right mouse on DB Tasks Restore Database This is where I get stuck. If I add both the new differential file, and the original backup to the restore process I get an error The media loaded on "M:\path\to\backup\full.bak" is formatted to support 1 media families, but 2 media families are expected according to the backup device specification. RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. But if I try to restore using just the differential file I get System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The log or differential backup cannot be restored because no files are ready to rollforward. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Any idea how to do it? Is there a better way of restoring backups with limited downtime?

  • Verification of files on backup media - after the backup

    - by Greg Sansom
I have a system in place where I back up my work files daily to a portable hard drive. I actually have two portable hard drives - one is stored off-site and I swap them regularly. I also keep my family photos and other historical files backed up, but I only back the photos up occasionally (ie when I have new photos). The backup media is for backup only, and it is unlikely I will ever read the files from the backup media unless a disaster occurs and I lose the master. It worries me that my backed up files could become corrupt without me knowing it. It is also feasible that my master files could become corrupt, and eventually the corrupt files would be replicated to the backup media. I'm currently using Cobian Backup, but I'm open to alternatives. Is there a tool I can use to confirm that the backed up files are identical to the files that were first copied? I know it would be possible to generate a checksum and periodically validate the backup files against the original checksum, but I'm looking for a tool which will do this automatically.

  • The power of explicit social networks

    - by me
Last week I had the pleasure to write a guest post on the Oracle WebCenter blog  with the topic The Power of Social Recommendations where I described Implicit and Explicit Social Recommendations models and how they relate to a Social Engagement Strategy. Now let's look at a real live example. Apple has implemented an explicit Social Network model with So what ? Users do this already on Facebook and Twitter!  (see ZDNet blog post : Ping: Apple should leave social to Facebook, Twitter) BUT there are some major  advantages: "100 % control over the explicit Social Network ->  direct customer relationship without a social intermediary like Facebook or Twitter Total  access to the Social Graph ->  own the Social Graph data from their users and no need to "buy" it from external social network providers Integrated into the core business model ->  harvest all Social Graph data  to provide  highly personalized and trusted recommendations Isn't this the dream of any company which thinks about their social media strategy?  and guess what - Oracle Social Network is all about this - building explicit Social Networks with seamless integration into  your core business processes and applications follow me on twitter:  http://twitter.com/peterreiser Enterprise2.0, enterprise2.0, social networks, social media, apple

  • Streaming server required with JW Player?

    - by Aaron
Currently, a site I developed plays mp3 files directly in JW Player using the file attribute and public URLs to the mp3 file. This is now an issue with the client for legal reasons, and they now need to stream the audio files so that the users can't open up their cache and nab the files directly after downloading. The JW player site has a bunch of examples for streaming video, but nothing for audio. Is it possible to stream audio files with JW player, and do we have to pay a lot of money for a streaming provider? Is it possible to do on the local php server?

  • BlackBerry - video player - FramePositioningControl is null

    - by sinu-mathews
I'm developing a blackberry application that plays video from the server. I've used Player.start() and Player.stop() for playing and pausing a video. But I also need rewind, forward and seek bar controls in my application. I tried using FramePositioningControl for these controls. But the following code is returning null. FramePositioningControl framePositioningControl = (FramePositioningControl) player.getControl("FramePositioningControl"); I searched several forums and they say many players do not support FramePositioningControl. What players support FramePositioningControl? And what else should I do to add these controls in my application?

  • C# - Error if Windows Media Player is not supported

    - by f4bzen
i´m using the windows media player (Interop.WMPLib.dll & AxInterop.WMPLib.dll) in my c#-project to stream a mp3 from a server. The only problem is, if the windows media player is somehow not supported on a pc (not installed or something), my application just gives an error (no exception, just a "windows-error") and won´t start. So, is it possible to check, if the windows media player is supported? Just checking if the OS is supported will probably not help. Are there maybe some better ways to stream mp3s than with the WMP ? Thanks in advance.

  • same flash file (.swf) downloaded multiple times on a page

    - by Gunjan
I have a page that has a table with each row corresponding to an audio file. The last cell in each row embeds a simple flash audio player. The problem is that the flash file for the player is being downloaded for each row separately and as soon as rows go beyond 40-50 it crashes the browser. I tried using different players (1pixelout, flash-mp3-player) and the problem is still there, so its not a player specific issue. Is there any way to cache the player so that it is only downloaded once?

  • flvplayer.swf player to play the video?

    - by Surya sasidhar
Hi, I am using flvplayer.swf player, it is playing the videos, but before playing the video the player has black screen and a play button. When I click the play button the video plays. Is it possible to show a screen-shot of the video with the play button on top, instead of the blank screen? This is the code of my player: <embed id="fl" src="flvplayer.swf" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" align="left" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" flashvars="file=hospitaldemo.swf&autostart=false&frontcolor=0xCCCCCC&backcolor=0x000000&lightcolor=0x996600&showdownload=false&showeq=false&repeat=false&volume=100&useaudio=false&usecaptions=false&usefullscreen=true&usekeys=true" style="width: 400px; height: 350px"> </embed>

  • If You Could Cut Your Meeting Times in ½ Would You?

    - by Brian Dayton
I know it sounds like a big promise. And what I'm thinking about may not cut a :60 minute meeting into :30 minutes, but it could make meetings and interactions up to 2X more productive. How? Social Media for the Enterprise, Not Social Media In the Enterprise Bear with me. I'm not talking about whether or not workers should or shouldn't have access to Facebook on corporate networks. That topic has been discussed @ length. I'm also not talking about the direct benefits of Social Networking tools like Presence (the ability to see someone online and ask a question in real-time), blogs, RSS feeds or external tools like Twitter. The Un-Measurable Benefits Would you do something that you believe will have a positive effect--but can't be measured? It's impossible to quantify the effectiveness of a meeting. However, what I am talking about would be more of a byproduct of all of the social networking tools above. Here's the hypothesis: As I've gotten more and more busy with work, family, travel and kids--and the same has happened to my friends and family--I'm less and less connected. But by introducing Facebook to my life I've not only made connections with longtime friends whom I haven't spoken to in years--but I've increased the pace and quality of interactions, on and offline, with close friends who I see and speak to every week. In some cases it even enhances the connections and interactions with those I see or speak to every day. The same holds true in an organization. Especially a larger one with highly matrixed organizational structures. You work with people on a project, new people come in with each different project and a disproportionate amount of time is spent getting oriented and staying current. Going back to the initial value proposition--making meetings shorter/more effective--a large amount of time is spent: -          At Project Kick-off: Meeting and understanding team member's histories, goals & roles -          Ongoing: Summarizing events since the last meeting or update email In my personal, Facebook life today I know that: -          My best friend from college - has been stranded in India for 5 days because of the volcano in Iceland and is now only 250 miles from home -          One of my co-workers started conference calls at 6:30 this morning -          My wife wasn't terribly pleased with my painting skills in our new bathroom (disclosure: she told me this face to face too) Strengthening Weak Links A recent article in CIO Magazine, Three Dangerous Social Media Misconceptions (Kristen Burnham, March 12, 2010) calls out the #1 misconception as follows: 1. "Face-to-face relationships are far more valuable than virtual ones." While some level of physical interaction will always add value to relationships, Gartner says that come 2020, most relationships and teams will be based on "weak links"--that is, you may not have personally met a contact, but you'll know of or may have interacted with him via social sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. The sooner your enterprise adopts these tools, the sooner your employees will learn them, and the sooner you'll begin to cultivate these relationships-of-the-future.   I personally believe that it's not an either/or choice between face-to-face and virtual interactions. In fact, I'll be as bold as saying it doesn't matter. I can point to two extremely valuable work relationships that I've had over the past 5 years: -          I shared an office with one of them -          I met the other person, face-to-face, only once Both relationships were very productive. The dynamics were similar. The communication tactics differed immensely. What does matter is the quality, frequency and relevance of interactions. Still sound like too much? An over-promise? Stay tuned for my next post The Gap Between Facebook and LinkedIn. I'll also connect some of the dots with where Oracle Applications and technologies are headed.

  • Social Business Forum Milano: Day 2

    - by me
@YourService. The business world has flipped and small business can capitalize  by Frank Eliason (twitter: @FrankEliason ) Technology and social media tools have made it easier than ever for companies to communicate with consumers. They can listen and join in on conversations, solve problems, get instant feedback about their products and services, and more. So why, then, are most companies not doing this? Instead, it seems as if customer service is at an all time low, and that the few companies who are choosing to focus on their customers are experiencing a great competitive advantage. At Your Service explains the importance of refocusing your business on your customers and your employees, and just how to do it. • Flash Player error logs on Mac OS X

    I'm on Mac OS X 10.5.8 running Flash Player 10,0,32,18. Flash Player is dumping giant amounts of error logging into the system log (stuff like "bit length overflow" and "code 0 bits 6-7"). Here's a tiny sampling: Oct 14 13:09:41 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:09:41 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 6 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:09:41 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:09:41 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 5 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 6 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 5 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 0 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 4 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 12 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:20 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:20 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 6 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:20 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:20 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 5 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:21 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:21 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 0 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:21 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:21 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 12 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:31 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:31 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 7 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:31 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:31 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 12 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 3 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 4 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 3 bits 7->6 Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 4 bits 5->6 Oct 14 13:11:07 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:07 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 3 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:07 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:07 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 3 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:15 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:15 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 3 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 7 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 0 bits 4->5 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 14 bits 4->5 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 10 bits 5->4 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 4 bits 5->4 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Any ideas on what this may be about?

  • Diverting sound output of MCE to SPDIF

    - by Saxtus
I have an ASUS SupremeFX II audio card (which in fact is an onboard audio riser slot) with the default drivers that are pre-installed by Windows 7 x64 for this card. I am able to manually switch between analog output and SPDIF output by the means of control panel (or external utilities like STADS), a change that affects all applications. The problem is that by doing that every time I am about to launch Windows Media Center, except that it's not that elegant, also makes all other Windows application's sounds to pass through SPDIF too, bypassing analog output completely, blending with what I am watching at Windows Media Center. Is there a way to make SPDIF as the default playback device for Windows Media Center? I know other programs that have a setting like that (foobar2000 for example) working like charm, allowing me to even have different outputs working at the same time (tested with my current card successfully). But when comes to Windows Media Center... it just use what the default playback device is all the time. The only setting that I know of, is under: Settings General Windows Media Center Setup Set Up Your Speakers and what it does is to just change the default playback device for entire system. Please help!
