• VirtualBox: How to connect to Internet via wi-fi on Mac?

  I installed VirtualBox with a Win XP VM on my Mac running OS 10.7.5. My Mac only has a wi-fi connection to the internet. On the settings for the virtual host, I set: Attached to: Bridged Adapter Name: en1: Wi-Fi (AirPort) Adapter Type: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM) Promiscuous Mode: Deny Mac Address: Cable Connected: true Those are the settings I see around the internet as being correct, but I still can't ping anything. On my Mac I have internet sharing via Ethernet enabled (not sure if that matters). When I start up my WinXP VM, it asks me to install a bunch of hardware which I don't have any drivers to. Do I need to install any ethernet card drivers in order for the internet to work? Thank you!!

  In the embedded system I'm working on, we are using a table of function pointers to support proprietary Dynamic Libraries. We have a header file that uses named constants (#define) for the function pointer indices. These values are used in calculating the location in the table of the function's address. (Also, I would like the compiler or preprocessor to calculate the indices to avoid human mistakes like typeo's.)

  Hello, I'm trying to fetch the most popular tags from all videos in my database (ignoring blank tags). I also need the 'flv' for each tag. I have this working as I want if each video has one tag: SELECT tag_1, flv, COUNT(tag_1) AS tagcount FROM videos WHERE NOT tag_1='' GROUP BY tag_1 ORDER BY tagcount DESC LIMIT 0, 10 However in my database, each video is allowed three tags - tag_1, tag_2 and tag_3. Is there a way to get the most popular tags reading from multiple columns? • SQL Server Stored Procedure that return processed records number

  I have a winform application that fires a Stored Procedure which elaborates several records (around 500k). In order to inform the user about how many record have been processed, I would need a SP which returns a value every n records. For example, every 1000 row processed (most are INSERT). Otherwise I would be able only to inform when ALL record are processed. Any hints how to solve this? I thought it could be useful to use a trigger or some scheduled task, but I cannot figure out how to implement it.

  My program needs to listen incoming socket connections (lets agree on port 8765), but it doesn't know which addresses it can bind on a particular machine. Of, course, it could simply to listen to all of them, but it need to send to the client program over a different(slower) channel the addresses which it should try in order to rich me on port 8765. So the flow is like this: My program lisens on all available interfaces on port 8765 Finds out a list of inet4 adresses by which it can be possibly reached (this step is the actual question) Posts that address on a whiteboard (blogpost or something) Interested clients try out all of them, to see using which one they can reach my program. This is all is to be done in java ofcourse :)

  I'm building a word anagram program that uses a database which contains one simple table: Words --------------------- varchar(15) alphagram varchar(15) anagram (other fields omitted for brevity) An alphagram is the letters of a word arranged in alphabetical order. For example, the alphagram for OVERFLOW would be EFLOORVW. Every Alphagram in my database has one or more Anagrams. • MySQL: Records inserted by hour, for the last 24 hours

  I'm trying to list the number of records per hour inserted into a database for the last 24 hours. Each row displays the records inserted that hour, as well as how many hours ago it was. Here's my query now: SELECT COUNT(*), FLOOR( TIME_TO_SEC( TIMEDIFF( NOW(), time)) / 3600 ) FROM `records` WHERE time > DATE_SUB(NOW(), INTERVAL 24 HOUR) GROUP BY HOUR(time) ORDER BY time ASC right now it returns: 28 23 62 23 14 20 1 4 28 3 19 1 That shows two rows from 23 hours ago, when it should only show one per hour. I think it has something to do with using NOW() instead of getting the time at the start of the hour, which I'm unsure on how to get. There must be a simpler way of doing this.

• Check if a GtkEntryCompletion is currently visible

  I have a GtkEntry with a GtkEntryCompletion attached to it. The Entry does something fairly expensive if the user hasn't changed the text in it for a second (to preview search results). However it's very common for the user to stop typing in order to select the correct autocompletion. So I'd like to delay the preview until the user has stopped typing and the GtkEntryCompletion is not currently suggesting anything. GtkEntryCompletion is not a real widget however, and doesn't seem to have any way to get to whatever widget does own the CellRenderers it uses. Is there a way I can detect if it's visible or not?

  I'm building a PHP framework, and in it I have a request object that parses the url as well as the $_GET, $_POST and $_FILE superglobals. I want to encourage safe web habits, so I'm protecting the data against SQL injection, etc. In order to ensure users of this framework are accessing the safe, clean data through the request object, I plan to use unset($_GET, $_POST, $_REQUEST); after parsing those variables. I will document this in the method comments, and explain in the framework documentation that this is happening. My question is: Would this be desirable behavior? What are the potential pitfalls that I have not foreseen?

• get n records at a time from a temporary table

  I have a temporary table with about 1 million entries. The temporary table stores the result of a larger query. I want to process these records 1000 at a time, for example. What's the best way to set up queries such that I get the first 1000 rows, then the next 1000, etc.? They are not inherently ordered, but the temporary table just has one column with an ID, so I can order it if necessary. I was thinking of creating an extra column with the temporary table to number all the rows, something like: CREATE TEMP TABLE tmptmp AS SELECT ##autonumber somehow##, id FROM .... --complicated query then I can do: SELECT * FROM tmptmp WHERE autonumber>=0 AND autonumber < 1000 etc... how would I actually accomplish this? Or is there a better way? I'm using Python and PostgreSQL.

  Hello there, In my app, I am composing an HMTL email message with the 3.0+ MFMailComposeViewController. To do this, I created an HTML file, with some placeholders. In my code, I read the HTML file, and with replaceOccurrencesOfString, I replace the placeholders with data from the app. In that way, I compose the body of the email I want to send out. This is all working very nicely, except for the fact, that in my HTML file, I have an <img src='imageplaceholderpath' /> tag. Somehow, I cannot figure out, with what I should replace this imageplaceholderpath, in order to refer to an image that resides in my app. Is this a valid approach at all, and if so, what would be the syntax/logic behind the path I should put there?   I try to refer to an array in the Game1 class by creating an object of the Game1 class with its definition Game1 gameObject; , its declaration gameObject = new Game1(); in the constructor, and its usage gameObject.tileArray[xInt, yInt].treed = true;. The game1 class itself remains unchanged in its class code other than some methods and variables. When I try to use this code in the TreeRegion class it gives me "Object reference not set to an instance of an object," leading me to believe that the game1 class is null somehow. How might one change the class or object in order to refer to game1's variables? Mind you I am self-taught and still rather new to C#.   I am using will_paginate for pagination but I can't seem to use more than one condition at a time. For example, if I want to have a sql query that ends in "Where office_id = 5", then it's pretty straight forward, I can do that. but what if I want to do "Where office_id = 5 AND primary_first = 'Mark'"? I can't do that. I have no idea how to enter multiple conditions. Can you help??   please help me with the following if you can, i have the simple following command me.textbox1.databindings.clear me.textbox1.databindings.add("text",TicketsBindingSource,"TicketSubject") the command exeutes succesfully and i can see in the textbox the title, BUT once i click on the textbox1 the position of the cursor it's always moving to the position 0 and not to the area of the textbox i clicked. For example my textbox has the following text: "Hello World". If i click with my mouse inside the textbox at the letter W or anywhere i click the cursor is moving to the 0 index. eg. at the beggining , in order to move my cursor left or right i have to do that with my keyboard arrows keys, Dose anybody know how i can solve this issue?

• Is JPA + EJB to much slow (or heavy) for over Internet transactions?

  Hi, I am developing a stand-alone java client application that connects to a Glassfish v3 application for JPA/EJB facade style transactions. In other words, my client application do not connect directly to the database to CRUD, but it transfers JPA objets using EJB stateless sessions. I have scenarios where this client application will be used in an external network connected with a VPN over Internet with a client connection of 512kbp/DSL, and a simple query takes so much time, I'm seeing the traffic graph and when I merge a entity in the client application I see megabytes of traffic (I couldn't believe how a purchase order entity could weight more than 1 mb). I have LAZY fetch in almost every many-to-many relationship, but I have a lot of many-to-one relationships between entities (but this is the great advantage of JPA!). Could I do something to accelerate the the speed of transactions between JPA/EJB server and the remote java client? Thank you in advance.

  I already created a custom 404 page inside my web app deployed in JBoss AS 7.1. So if my app is at fubar dot com :8080/Myapp and I go to fubar dot com :8080/Myapp/xyzzy, I get the custom error page (defined in the web app's web.xml file). However, when I go to fubar dot com :8080/xyzzy, JBoss displays the default 404 page which discloses that it's JBoss and which JBoss version. I need to replace this page in order to hide this information. Please advise.
