• Incorrect deployment of WSGI app to AWS using Elastic Beanstalk

  cross-link to AWS forums I have developed a simple Python web service using WSGI and would like to deploy it to AWS cloud using Elastic Beanstalk. My problem is I cannot make all the options I specify in Elastic Beanstalk configuration to be correctly configured in the cloud. For deployment, I use Elastic Beanstalk CLI utility. I have run eb init command and set up the required parameters. After this, a directory named .elasticbeanstalk was created in my source tree. It has two config files that are used for deployment, namely config and optionsettings. The latter one among the other options contains the WSGI configuration that has to update /etc/httpd/conf.d/wsgi.conf at the instances. After some of my adjustments the file has the following settings: [aws:elasticbeanstalk:application:environment] DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE = PARAM1 = PARAM2 = PARAM4 = PARAM3 = PARAM5 = [aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python] WSGIPath = handler.py NumProcesses = 2 StaticFiles = /static= NumThreads = 10 [aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python:staticfiles] /static = static/ [aws:elasticbeanstalk:hostmanager] LogPublicationControl = false [aws:autoscaling:launchconfiguration] InstanceType = t1.micro EC2KeyName = zmicier-aws [aws:elasticbeanstalk:application] Application Healthcheck URL = [aws:autoscaling:asg] MaxSize = 10 MinSize = 1 Custom Availability Zones = [aws:elasticbeanstalk:monitoring] Automatically Terminate Unhealthy Instances = true [aws:elasticbeanstalk:sns:topics] Notification Endpoint = Notification Protocol = email It turns out that not all of these options are considered when I start the environment or update it. Thus, when I update NumThreads or NumProcesses, the respective parameters get changed in wsgi.conf as expected. But whatever I write to the WSGIPath and StaticFiles parameters, I'm not able to automatically change the respective values of wsgi.conf, they remain Alias /static /opt/python/current/app/ WSGIScriptAlias / /opt/python/current/app/application.py which drives me nuts. Moreover, when I deploy my application using git aws.push and having the following contents of .ebextensions/python.config file, neither of options I specify in it affects the deployment. option_settings: - namespace: aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python option_name: WSGIPath value: mysite/wsgi.py - namespace: aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python option_name: NumProcesses value: 5 - namespace: aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python option_name: NumThreads value: 25 - namespace: aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python:staticfiles option_name: /static/ value: app/static/ I wonder what I should do to force AWS use all the parameters I specify in the configuration, namely the WSGI Path and path to my static data.

• git stash blunder:

  I did a git stash pop and ended up with merge conflicts. I removed the files from the file system and did a git checkout as shown below, but it thinks the files are still unmerged. I then tried replacing the files and doing a git checkout again and same result. I event tried forcing it with -f flag. • using the window object for accessing global user defined objects and using text within html for cre

  I don't do very much jquery / javascript but wanted to ask for some advice on the following piece. I have tried to cut out as much as possible. Most of this was semi-inherited code with catching a bunch of events just hardcoded in. I'd like to generalized them more by putting the object name in the html and accessing via jquery on processing (by_date, by_popularity). I retriev as string and access the object via window[current_obj]. Is this a good way to do this or am I missing something? I use the button inside a movieclip and I export it in a SWC. The I'm trying to use it in flex. • Apache virtualhost - only apply script if file does not exist in document root

  Sorry for the newbie apache question. I'm wondering if it's possible to set up the following non-conventional apache virtualhost (for a Django app): -- If a file exists in the DocumentRoot (/var/www) it will be shown. So if /var/www/foo.html exists, then it can be seen at www.example.com/foo.html. -- If file does not exist, it is served via a virtualhost. I'm using mod_wsgi with a WSGIScriptAlias directive that points to a Django app. So if there is no /var/www/bar.html, www.example.com/bar.html will be passed to the Django app, which may or may not be a 404 error. One option is to create an Alias for each individual file/directory, but people want to be able to post a file without adding an alias, and we want to keep the above URL structure for legacy reasons. • jQuery Address - redirect after form submit

  Hello all, I use jQuery and AJAX to load content from links and forms into a content div. In addition I use the Address plugin to enable the back button and refresh. On the server side I use Java and Spring MVC. Since I'm using jQuery Address and AJAX the only page that is directly loaded is "index.html". Everything else is loaded into a content div, and what page to load is specified in the hash, ie. "index.html#/users/add.html" will load "users/add.html". Now, "users/add.html" contains a form for creating a new user. When the form is submitted and everything went OK, the controller redirects to "users/index.html". The problem is that jQuery Address doesn't know about the redirect, so the url will remain "index.html#/users/add.html". And this is a problem when you refresh the page and then get sent back to the form, instead of the index page. Is there a way to fix this problem? Thanks, Stian

In the while loop, if entered int is -1, return to the back (Set console input back to "", and let the user select what game he would like to play). • Trouble passing JSP values to ActionForm (Struts)

  Hi, I am a newbie to Struts and have inherited a problem. I am trying to pass 3 values contained in the same table cell from a JSP to my ActionForm class. The first value (and others in the JSP) work fine, but for some reason the other two do not. I have the appropriate getters and setters, but only the first (newrecnum) shows up, the other two are null. Is there a limitation to only pass the first value? Or is there something else wrong? • Using java.util.regex in Android apps - are there issues with this?

  In an Android app I have a utility class that I use to parse strings for 2 regEx's. I compile the 2 patterns in a static initializer so they only get compiled once, then activities can use the parsing methods statically. This works fine except that the first time the class is accessed and loaded, and the static initializer compiles the pattern, the UI hangs for close to a MINUTE while it compiles the pattern! After the first time, it flies on all subsequent calls to parseString(). My regEx that I am using is rather large - 847 characters, but in a normal java webapp this is lightning fast. I am testing this so far only in the emulator with a 1.5 AVD. • With the advent of HTML 5, is there a point in using COMET anymore?

  I am very tempted to use long wait http or periodic polling by the client to set up pseudo-sockets on the browser side, for an application that would be used publicly. But then on the 2nd thought, I am thinking HTML 5 is here. But on the 3rd thought, what is the percentage of browsers out there that remain non-HTML5 within 12 months, 24 months, 36 months? If there are at least 20% of browsers still incapable of HTML5, then I cannot depend on HTML5 because 20% of users not being able to access an application is a significant amount. What do you think, how would your advice be (to me and to developers in general)? Q1. Is there any point in rigging in COMET into an application anymore? I am thinking of gwt comet - http://code.google.com/p/gwt-comet/. Q2. Should we release a new public application within the next 2 months that is dependent on HTML5 sockets and tell non-HTML5 browser users "sorry, your browser version cannot access this application"? Or should we architect the apps to use communication like GWT RPC? Q3. I am also very distrustful of long wait http request. I have never used it before but I have a horrible feeling about it. I have been using 10 to 20 second client-side polling. Is long wait http request risky (risk of hanging a browser session)? Does long wait request present any additional security risk?

• Why doesn't Default route work using Html.ActionLink in this case?

  I have a rather perculiar issue with routing. Coming back to routing after not having to worry about configuration for it for a year, I am using the default route and ignore route for resources: routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional }); I have a RulesController with an action for Index and Lorem and a Index.aspx, Lorem.aspx in Views Rules directory. I have an ActionLink aimed at Rules/Index on the maseter page: <li><div><%: Html.ActionLink("linkText", "Index", "Rules")%></div></li> The link is being rendered as http://localhost:12345/Rules/ and am getting a 404. When I type Index into the URL the application routes it to the action. When I change the default route action from "Index" to "Lorem", the action link is being rendered as http://localhost:12345/Rules/Index adding the Index as it's no longer on the default route and the application routes to the Index action correctly. I have used Phil Haack's Routing Debugger, but entering the url http://localhost:12345/Rules/ is causing a 404 using that too. I think I've covered all of the rookie mistakes, relevant SO questions and basic RTFMs. I'm assuming that "Rules" isn't any sort of reserved word in routing. Other than updating the Routes and debuugging them, what can I look at?

• IIS 6 ASP.NET default handler-mappings and virtual directories

  I'm having a problem with setting a default mapping in IIS 6. I want to secure *.HTML files with ASP.NET forms authentication. The problem seems to have something to do with using virtual directories to hold the html files. Here's how it's setup: sample directory tree c:/inetpub/ (nothing in here) d:/web_files/my_web_apps d:/web_files/my_web_apps/app1/ d:/web_files/my_web_apps/app2/ d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/ app1 and app2 both access the same html_files directory, so html_files is set as a virtual directory in the web apps in IIS... sample web directory tree //app1/html_files/ (points to physical directory: d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/) //app2/html_files/ (points to physical directory: d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/) If I put a file called test.html in the root of //app1/ and then add the default mapping to the asp.net dll and setup my security on the root folder with deny="?", then accessing test.html works exactly as expected. If I'm not authenticated, it takes me to the login.aspx page, and if I am authenticated then it displays test.html. If I put the test.html file in the html_files directory I get a totally different behavior. Now the login.aspx page loads and I stuck some code in to check if I was still authenticated: <p>autheticated: <%=User.Identity.IsAuthenticated%></p> I figured it would say false because why else would it bother to load the login page? Nope, it says true - so it knows i'm authenticated, but it won't give me access to the test.html file. I've spent several hours on this and haven't been able to solve it. I'm going to spend some more time on google to see if I've missed something. Fingers crossed.

• jQuery click event on image only fires once

  I created a view of thumbnails. When the user clicks, I want the real image to pop-up in a dialog. That works the first time, but once the jQuery 'click' fires on an thumbnail it never fires again unless I reload the entire page. I've tried rebinding the click events on the dialog close that that does not help.   I'm iterating through a collection on my view model. The collection contains HealthLifeDentalRates which implement IBeginsEnds. I have a Display Template BeginsEnds that displays the date range. This results in very slow performance. If I simply the date range (see commented code), it's fine.   Hello, I'm trying to create a class that can instantiate arrays at runtime by giving each array a "name" created by the createtempobjectname() method. I'm having trouble making this program run. I would also like to see how I could access specific objects that were created during runtime and accessing those arrays by either changing value or accessing them.   I am having difficulties with forms, specifically ModelMultipleChoiceField. I've pieced together this code from various examples, but it sadly doesn't work. I would like to be able to: Search for some Works on work_search.html Display the results of the search, with checkboxes next to each result Select the Works I want, via the checkboxes After pressing Add, display which works were selected. I believe everything is okay except the last part. The page simply displays "works" :( Here is the code - sorry about the length.   I've got a Linode configured as a Ubuntu 10.04.2 web server with Apache 2.2.14. I have a total of 4 sites, all defined under /etc/apache2/sites-available as virtual hosts. All sites are almost identical clones for configuration. And all sites but my last work successfully. default: (www.)exampleadnetwork.com (www.)example.com reseller.example.com trouble: client1.example.com I keep getting this page when I visit the client1.example.com site: It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet. In my ports.conf file I have the NameVirtualHost correctly set to my IP address on port 80. If I access the "www.sub.example.com" alias the site works! If I access it without the www I see the "It Works" excerpt posted above. Even apache2ctl -S shows that my vhost file parses correctly and is added to the mix.
