• Sending compressed data via socket

  Hi, I have to make a log server in java, and one task is to send the data compressed. Now I am sending it line by line in plain text, but I must compress it. The server handle "HTTP like" request. For example, I can get a log sending "GET xxx.log". This will entablish a TCP connection to the server, the server response with a header and the log, and close the connection. The client, reads line by line and analyzes each LOG entry. I tried some ways without success. My main problem is that I don't know where each line ends(in the client size). Any idea?

• Use python decorators on class methods and subclass methods

  Goal: Make it possible to decorate class methods. When a class method gets decorated, it gets stored in a dictionary so that other class methods can reference it by a string name. Motivation: I want to implement the equivalent of ASP.Net's WebMethods. I am building this on top of google app engine, but that does not affect the point of difficulty that I am having. How it Would look if it worked: class UsefulClass(WebmethodBaseClass): def someMethod(self, blah): print(blah) @webmethod def webby(self, blah): print(blah) # the implementation of this class could be completely different, it does not matter # the only important thing is having access to the web methods defined in sub classes class WebmethodBaseClass(): def post(self, methodName): webmethods[methodName]("kapow") ... a = UsefulClass() a.post("someMethod") # should error a.post("webby") # prints "kapow" There could be other ways to go about this. • MSBuild Include Remote File 2008?

  TFS 2008, VS 2008. I have a tfsbuild.proj and tfsbuild.msp file in $/MyStuff/TeamBuildTypes/Dev folder. I have a targets file at $/MyStuff/TeamBuildTypes/IncludeFiles/Common/test.xml. test.xml contains an XML fragment that overrides the BeforeGet task. I tried to get the file into my tfsbuild.proj file like this: <Import Project="$/MyStuff/TeamBuildTypes/IncludeFiles/Common/test.xml" /> The build fails because it tries to get the file from a relative path that is way off. How can I specify external/include files from an explicit TFS "remote" path? Thanks.

• Sending binary data with Indy through TCP\IP, how?

  Hello. How to send a binary data with Indy components? Which of them is most suitable for this task? I've tried to use TIdTcpClient but it allows only to send strings. I've found one reponce for that problem here but I don't get it. It says about method Write(TIdBytes), but the answer is not clear for me. Does he meant Write to some instance of TIdBytes, and how to connect that instance with TIdTcpClient? Thanks for any help.

  Hi, I'm trying to install a speech recognition engine server side. (non commercial preferred since it's just for experimentation) The idea is to allow a user to say something from a website then whatever he/she says will show up on the screen (as text) I've read about many available softwares ranging from Microsoft Speech, Sphinx, Julius etc just not sure which one will perform best and easiest to install. • Chrome plugin process - npapi plugin

  Hi, I'm writing an npapi plugin in Qt. My plugin works perfectly on firefox and opera. The problem in chrome i guess is regarding the "process-per-plugin" setup. What happens is, when i first open a page, the plugin is injected and all works as per expected. But when i navigate from that page to another one, in the new page, the plugin seems to get injected but even its constructor isnt called. To examine the issue, I tried killing my plugin process via the chrome task manager before i navigate to the new page. When i do this, the plugin works as expected in the 2nd page too. I'm unable to comprehend what is happening here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

• A question about "empty" lists in Python

  I've started teaching myself Python, and as an exercise I've set myself the task of generating lookup tables I need for another project. I need to generate a list of 256 elements in which each element is the value of math.sin(2pi/256). The problem is I don't know how to generate a list initialized to "dummy" values that I can then use a for loop to step through and assign the values of the sin function. Using list[] seems to create an "empty" list, but with no elements so I get a "list assignment index out of range" error in the loop. Is there a way to this other than explicitly creating a list declaration containing 256 elements all with "0" as a value? Thanks!

• Make Custom Project template in Eclipse IDE

  I have been using Eclipse IDE for a long time. Its a really great IDE for Java/C/C++ (and other languages with its THOUSANDS of plugins). Every once in a while, I get the need for creating a Javax interface. To do this normally, I would setup the new java project then add what I need. But, wouldn't it be nice if I could just make a template project to automatically include the code for the files. How would I go about doing this? It it even possible? The Eclipse CDT can make a new project type. So can the Google ADT and Google App engine. So I would imagine it is possible. But how?

  I'm trying to install my iphone app on my device for testing and whenever I try to build it I get: The executable was signed with invalid entitlements The entitlements specificed in your application's Code Signing Entitlements do not match those specified in your provisioning profile. Now I've tried adding an Entitlements.plist file and both checking and unchecking get-task-allow. I've added the file name under Code Signing Entitlements under the project and then under the target, both, neither, etc. I've deleted and re-created every app id, provisioning profile, and certificate. Those all seem valid. This is not an ad-hoc distribution (it's development) and it's not a jailbroken phone. I don't even understand where in the provisioning profile any Code Signing Entitlements are specified..?

• Remove JQuery validationEngine from form

  I am using Position Absolute's jQuery validationEngine but I need to remove it after attaching it to a form. I have 2 submit buttons on my form - one for save and one for save as draft. I attach the validationEngine to the form when Save is clicked. If the validation fails, and the user clicks Save as Draft (by passing the validation), the validation engine is still attached to the form from when they clicked "save". What I want to do is: - allow the user to attempt to save - validation fails and error is displayed - and allow them to click save as draft without any validation being performed I tried the unbind function and it appears to work, but it breaks the submit on the button completely. I just want to remove the validationEngine and allow everything else to work as it was. Thanks

• AnkhSVN: moving a project to another repo

  My task is to move this VS solution and projects to another SVN server. I'm working with Visual Studio 2010 RC1 and AnkhSVN 2.1.7819.... Currently the files are all bound to a repo at C:\Repositories\foo. I'd like to move it to http://someSite/svn/foo I'm presented with this error message: Repository UUID '152c39db-5799-4234-85f2-074004a6fcad' doesn't match expected UUID '6c83444d-7f93-d64a-b0a0-23283495cf17' Questions How can I avoid this message in AnkhSVN? Are there better solutions for moving the source into a repo on the new target? How can I get Ankh to 'forget' that repo at C:\Repositories\ forever?

• Can NotifyIcon.ShowBalloonTip in C# be customized?

  Purely out of GUI vanity, I would like to make my task bar tool tip less...well, less "I wear a suit and work at Microsoft"-y. I can't seem to find a setting to do this, but I know that this particular function is relatively new so if anyone knows of a way to change the balloon look and feel I would very much appreciate a link or suggestion! • Value of text box disapears - binding viewmodel to a tab (content control)

  Based on the MVVM example by Josh Smith, I have implemented the multi tab option which binds to a different tab to a different view model using a simple datatemplate that binds a viewmodel to a view. <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type fixtureVM:SearchViewModel}"> <SearchVw:SearchView/> </DataTemplate> The issue that I'm having, is when I switch tabs and then switch back again, the value in the textbox disappears. When I bind the Text in the textbox to a value in the ViewModel it does not disappear. This is fine, and I can overcome this but I am having another issue for example with the position of the scroll bar in a grid disappearing once the tab has lost focus. Why is the value disappearing? I'm assuming it is a WPF sub system task that cleans up resources!? how can I avoid this? I also feel it might be slowing down my app.

• How to add a whole directory or project output to WiX package

  We decided to switch from VS integrated setup to WiX. However, what we currently do is use projects output files as the input for the setup project. This lets us easily add Application Files to a directory (for images, samples, and other resources...) and those files are automatically added to the setup when we build. I could not find any similar feature in WiX. WiX seems to require one Directory entry and one File entry for each and every directory and file. This would require us to change the WiX source everytime a file is added which, to my eyes, is prohibitive since we have so many of them. Is there any integrated way of doing that with WiX or do I have to write my own task that will create a WiX source before calling candle?

  Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to write a Perl regular expression that for a given string, will return the first occurence of a character that is not consecutively duplicated. In other words, both preceded AND succeeded by characters different from itself (or start/end of string respectively). Example: IN: aabbcdecc OUT: c Please note that "not consecutively duplicated" does not mean "anywhere in the string". NOTE: it must be a pure regex expression. E.g. the solution that obviously comes to mind (clone the string, delete all the duplicates, and print the first remaining character) does not count, although it solves the problem.   Alright, I have an issue with the following code. What happens is when a user closes their browser, it should prompt them to either click OK or click CANCEL to leave the page. Clicking OK would trigger a window.location to redirect to another page for user tracking (and yes, to avoid flame wars, there is a secondary system in place to assure accurate tracking, in the event of the user killing the browser from the task manager (as mentioned in similar questions)). CANCEL would remain on the page, the issue being that no matter what button you hit, you get redirected as if you wanted to leave the page.   I'd built an WSSv3 application which upload files in small chunks; when every data piece arrives, I temporarly keep it into a SQL 2005 image data type field for performance reasons**. Problem come when upload ends; I need to move data from my SQL Server to Sharepoint Document Library through WSSv3 object model. • TFS and SVN code Merge

  We are a small team of 8. 3 are from other country and they are using the Source controller as TFS and TFS server is also located there and they have only 4 licence. So we (5 developers) are using SVN source controller as local source controller and for every 3 days we are taking the TFS latest and merging the changes from and to SVN & TFS. Really this is overkilling and hour consuming task. They don't want to change the TFS ( Not event add ins ). So what i can use to merge the code between two source controllers. Is it i can use SVN-Bridge to Merge the code without changing or modifying the TFS Server. Please guide me on this. (Worst case they might go for add ins, for sure no other source controllers than Microsoft Product) hhhmmmmmm, i'm sitting in front of monitor and hitting the F5 on this page, Please save my hours.

• How to marshal a COM-Parameter as VT_ARRAY of VT_RECORD

  I've already done some extensive search, but I can't seem to find anything matching my problem. The task I'm currently working on is to create a WCF-Wrapper for some DCOM-Objects. This already works great for the most parts, but now I'm stuck with one invocation that expects a VT_ARRAY containing VT_RECORD-Objects. Marshalling as VT_ARRAY is not a problem, but how can I tell COM that the elements in this array are VT_RECORDs? This is the invocation as I current use it. InitTestCase(testCaseName, parameterFileName, testCase, cellInfos.ToArray()); The parameter I'm talking about is the last one. It's defined as List<CellInfo>, CellInfo itself is already attributed with Guid("7D422961-331E-47E2-BC71-7839E9E77D39") and ComVisible(true). It's not a struct but a class. This is the condition failing on the native side: if (VT_RECORD == varCellConfig.vt)... Because of old software using these interfaces, changing the native side is not an option Any idea?

• What is "Virtual Size" in sysinternals process explorer

  Hi My application runs for few hours, There is no increase in any value ( vmsize, memory) of Task Manager. But after few hours i get out of memory errors. In sysinternals i see that "Virtual Size" is contineously increasing, and when it reach around 2 GB i start getting memory errors. So what kind of memory leak is that ? How can i demonstrate it with a code ? Is it possible to reproduce same thing with any piece of code where none of the memory value increase but only the Virtual Size in sysinternsl process explorer increase ? thanks for any suggestions

• DirectSound affects system volume on WinXP

  Hello guys, I'm currently developing an audio engine that is used in voice network chat software. Everything is working fine - capture/playback/mixing channels. The problem is in using it under Windows XP. I've been getting user reports with information that their global system volume is set to zero after launching the application. I'm assuming that happens because of WaveOut/DSound conflict. How can I force DSound not to affect system volume? Playback device is initialized: DirectSoundCreate8(&GUID, &pAudio, NULL); and: pAudio-SetCooperativeLevel(parentWnd, DSSCL_PRIORITY); I'm currently not able to debug the application, cause I'm using Vista and everything is OK.
