• Entity system and rendering types

  I would like to implement entity system in my game and I've got some question about entity system and rendering. Currently, my renderer got two types of elements: Current design Mesh : A default renderable with a Material, a Geometry and a Transformable Sprite : A type of mesh with some methods like "flip" and "setRect" methods and a rect member (With an imposed geometry, a quad) This objects inherit from "Spacial" class. Questions: How can I handle this two types in an entity system? I'm thinking about using "MeshComponent" and "SpriteComponent", but if I do that, an entity could have a Mesh and a Sprite at the same type, it's look stupid, right? I thought the idea to have a parent "rendering" component : "RenderableComponent" for "MeshComponent" and "SpriteComponent" but it will be difficult to handle "cast" in the game (ex: did I need to ask entity-getComponent or SpineComponent, …) Thanks a lot for reading me! • How to assign a keyboard shortcut to a specific New Window template in Terminal.app?

  I have a template set up in Snow Leopard's Terminal.app to create a new window or tab with my preferred emulation settings for a particular host that I use. I'd like to assign a keyboard shortcut to that template so that I can quickly create a new window with those settings. I tried using the Keyboard Shortcuts System Preference pane to do it. I can assign the shortcut key to the MyTemplate submenu, but it doesn't work when I try to use it. I suspect because the MyTemplate is listed in multiple submenus -- one for New Window and one for New Tab. How can I assign a keyboard shortcut to my new fancy template? PS. I do NOT wish to change my default (cmd-N) template.

• Virtual PC - Display Issue with Ubuntu Server

  Hi Everyone, I just did a clean install of Ubuntu Server 9.04 in Virtual PC on the Windows 7 RC, and it seems to be having a bit of an issue with the virtual machine's display adapter. I've tried setting a VGA flag in the GRUB configuration to no avail. This is a guess, but I think it has something to do with the color console mode that gets enabled by default at boot time. The system starts booting just fine (i.e. the console looks "normal" when I'm asked to enter an LVM passphrase, etc.), but then the display goes wonky after a few seconds and I end up with this. Typing commands in bash works just fine: it's not like the system is frozen or anything, I just can't see anything that I type. The console looks exactly the way it does in the image below.

• CentOS PAM+LDAP login and host attribute

  My system is CentOS 6.3, openldap is configured well, PAM authorization works fine. But after turning pam_check_host_attr to yes, all LDAP-auths fail with message "Access denied for this host". hostname on the server returns correct value, the same value is listed in user's profile. "pam_check_host_attr no" works fine and allows everyone with correct uid/password a piece of /var/log/secure: Sep 26 05:33:01 ldap sshd[1588]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=my-host user=my-username Sep 26 05:33:01 ldap sshd[1588]: Failed password for my-username from 77.AA.BB.CC port 58528 ssh2 Sep 26 05:33:01 ldap sshd[1589]: fatal: Access denied for user my-username by PAM account configuration Another two servers (CentOS 5.7 Debian) authorizes on this LDAP server correctly. Even with pam_check_host_attr yes! I didn't edit /etc/security/access.conf, it is empty, only default comments. I don't know what to do! How to fix this?

• PHP: A config file in .ini or .php format?

  I'm working on a huge CMS system, and I asked myself what configuration format I should use. There are two common formats for configuration files. The first one is an INI file, containg all the configuration properties. Then you can simply parse this INI file using build in PHP functions. A second option is to use a PHP file containing a regular PHP array with these configuration properties. Now, it's easier to edit an INI file, but a PHP file give's you more options, for example it allows you to add a function which retrieves one of the configuration options while reading the configuration file. Note: The PHP configuration file would only contain an array of configuration, no initialization functions or anything. (This is possible of course, but it's not implemented by default) Now, what is recommend for me to use as configuration file? What is the most common format for a configuration file? Should I go for simplicity with the INI files, or with a more dynamic one using PHP. One thing to note, this is not for personal usage. I'm planning to release the CMS system soon, and a lot of websites are scheduled already to change to my CMS system.

• Is it possible to implement an infinite IEnumerable without using yield with only C# code?

  This isn't a practical problem, it's more of a riddle. Problem I'm curious to know if there's a way to implement something equivalent to the following, but without using yield: IEnumerable<T> Infinite<T>() { while (true) { yield return default(T); } } Rules You can't use the yield keyword Use only C# itself directly - no IL code, no constructing dynamic assemblies etc. You can only use the basic .NET lib (only mscorlib.dll, System.Core.dll? not sure what else to include). However if you find a solution with some of the other .NET assemblies (WPF?!), I'm also interested. Don't implement IEnumerable or IEnumerator. Notes The closest I've come yet: IEnumerable<int> infinite = null; infinite = new int[1].SelectMany(x => new int[1].Concat(infinite)); This is "correct" but hits a StackOverflowException after 14399 iterations through the enumerable (not quite infinite). I'm thinking there might be no way to do this due to the CLR's lack of tail recursion optimization. A proof would be nice :)

• Need IPSec help on Windows 2003

  Hey guys, I am trying to configure IPSec between a web and app server in our environment. I want all traffic between these two servers to use IPsec and be encrypted. These servers are on the same domain so i am currently using Kerebos for security, I have also tried pre-defined keys and nothing changed. When I try and ping between the servers I get "Negotiating IP Security" everytime. I have also confirmed that when I change "Require Security" to "Permit" everything works so IPSec is working, I believe its something with my security setup. Under the security tab both servers have the default 3DES keys first and then DES keys. I have also specified tunnel endpoints (the alternate server's IP). What am I missing? Thanks for any help..

• How to install an init.d script in ubuntu?

  i am trying to install an init.d script, to run celery for scheduling tasks. Here is the steps i followed: copied the file celeryd and pasted it in folder /etc/init.d/ created a configuration file celeryd in folder /etc/default/ now when i tried to start it by sudo /etc/init.d/celeryd start, it throws error sudo: /etc/init.d/celeryd: command not found I googled about how to install init.d, i got this SO-question. it says to issue a uname -a and when i does i get this: Linux capsonesystem8-desktop 3.2.0-43-generic-pae #68-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 15 03:55:10 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux and also it says use utils like insserv to enable init.d script so tried: insserv /etc/init.d/celeryd but it throws error insserv: command not found so i tried to install insserv sudo apt-get install insserv. but it say aleady installed: insserv is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 222 not upgraded. So how to install init.d script?? Any help will be appreciated. update1: when i tried: $ sh -x /etc/init.d/celeryd start it reveal some errors. may be that is why the service won’t start. update2: I cleared all the errors when i run $ sh -x /etc/init.d/celeryd start but still sudo /etc/init.d/celeryd start throws command not found error

• ADFS 2.0 Farm - How do I perform an immediate sync

  Hi, We're using ADFS 2.0 on a windows 2008 server, it's in a farm and has the default polling interval of 5 minutes. We're making a change tonight and would rather sync immediately than wait for the other guy to update, especially as we might be making multiple changes. This Technet article mentions that I can change the polling interval or do an immediate sync between my servers: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee913581%28WS.10%29.aspx I checked the powershell commandlets for ADFS and I can only seem to find one that let's me set the polling interval, but not perform a 1 time immediate sync Searched the usual suspects, but just can't find a ADFS-SyncMyStuffNow command... • Issue with PHP and osx 10.7 - runs via command line but not in browser

  I recently removed MAMP as I wanted to have more control over my machine and wanted to make use of PHP5.4 I installed using the script located here I cannot now not even get my default PHP that is built in to osx to work. I am running this script with a simple In a document in my ~/Sites directory. I am really at a loss as to why this will not work. I have php5 installed in my /usr/local directory via the link provided above and it seems like the main php is installed in /usr/bin Any and all insight on how to debug this would be greatly appreciated.

  I have a nokia N97. In my apartment there's a wifi network that we all use to connect to the internet. But for the past few days my laptop is not able to find the network..Initially I thought it was a problem of the network,but hen I found out that others were able to use it..My vista os laptop is able to detect other available networks but not the required one..Then i tried to connect my cell phone to the network and it did easily!! I tried restoring the network settings to default but it showed the network for just 2 mins and it ws back to square one.. I wanted to know can I connect my laptop to the cell using USB and browse internet through that?? I have done it when I used GPRS but am not sure if it cn be done in this situation when the cell is connected toa wifi network..plz help..

  The most common question I often receive is why do I blog? The answer is even simpler – I blog because I get an extremely constructive comment and conversation from people like DHall and Kumar Harsh. Earlier this week, I shared a conversation between Madhivanan and myself regarding how to find out if a table uses ROWGUID or not? I encourage all of you to read the conversation here: SQL SERVER – Identifying Column Data Type of uniqueidentifier without Querying System Tables. In simple words the conversation between Madhivanan and myself brought out a simple query which returns the values of the UNIQUEIDENTIFIER  without knowing the name of the column. David Hall wrote few excellent comments as a follow up and every SQL Enthusiast must read them first, second and third. David is always with positive energy, he first of all shows the limitation of my solution here and here which he follows up with his own solution here. As he said his solution is also not perfect but it indeed leaves learning bites for all of us – worth reading if you are interested in unorthodox solutions. Kumar Harsh suggested that one can also find Identity Column used in the table very similar way using $IDENTITY. Here is how one can do the same. • Can't (re)Install VLC (removed by update{again})

  I use VLC a lot, And When 2.0 came out Ubuntu did not update to that version, the REPO had the older version even months later, So I added the daily repo: http://ppa.launchpad.net/videolan/stable-daily/ubuntu and that worked for a while, after a few months later I received a 'Distribution upgrade' and when I installed it, it removed VLC. when I tried to re-install it gave me a bunch of unmet dependency's, so I disabled the source, ran apt-get update, and tried to install the older VLC, that did not work either. • Ubuntu and racadm

  I recently purchased a used poweredge 1850 server and it came with a DRAC card. After wiping the HDD and installing ubuntu server 12.04.3 LTS amd64 on it, I am now trying to gain access to the DRAC which I believe is version 4. I have properly configured the DRAC to use it's own IP on my LAN and when I point my browser to the IP address, I am greeted with the DRAC login page (it has the dell logo and everything). However, after trying the credentials of root/calvin, I was denied access. So I think that the previous owners had set their own password. After doing some reading, it appears that I can reset the credentials to the default using racadm config -g cfgUserAdmin -o cfgUserAdminPassword -i 1 newpassword but upon entering the command, I get this error: bash: /usr/sbin/racadm: No such file or directory This holds true even if I run sudo su prior to running the racadm command. If, however, I run sudo racadm config -g cfgUserAdmin -o cfgUserAdminPassword -i 1 newpassword there are no errors. Yet, when I try to log into the DRAC via the web interface using the credentials of root/newpassword I am still not granted access. I installed the dell utilities via the guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportMachinesServersDellNotes. I first tried to install the 64 bit version that is on the dell repositories, but after that was unsuccessful, I just followed the guide verbatim. No errors were produced in either case. I even followed the information at the bottom of the guide by executing sudo pppd /dev/ttyS1 1382400 crtscts noipdefault noauth lock persist connect 'chat -v "" CLIENT CLIENTSERVER "\\c"' but obviously, replacing the /dev/ttyS1 with the correct information for my system. ls -l /usr/sbin/ | grep racadm yields -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 87930 Sep 16 04:03 racadm I have tried these credentials after each attempt of changing the password: root/calvin root/newpassword admin/calvin admin/newpassword All have been unsuccessful. What is the next course of action that I should take?

• Email client supporting multiple accounts

  I've been using Microsoft Outlook for a very long time, although one thing that has bugged me is how multiple email accounts are handled. As far as I can tell, there isn't a set and straightforward way of managing multiple accounts in one instance of outlook. For example, when I create an email, saving it as a draft will by default dump it into the first personal folder that I have open, which in my current case, is not where I want it. I would like all trash, spam, drafts, contacts, etc. etc. to be handled on a PF by PF basis. Now to my question: Is there a way to accomplish the task of email account "segregation" in Outlook (2007 is my current version), or is there another client that handles this in a more organized fashion? Note: I don't use most of the features in outlook (I hardly even need special formatting for my messages), I generally just send and read mail, and get a few attachments, so leaving Outlook wouldn't be too much of a stretch for me.

• "Automatically Connect" option for Mobile Broadband crashes GNOME Shell, how to remove network configurations?

  I'm using Fedora 15, in GNOME Shell, my mobile broadband connection was working absolutely fine, until I set the connection type to Connect Automatically using nm-connection-manager. Now, when I start the Fedora, the Top panel network icon shows red exclamation symbol and when I click it, instead of showing me available networks' list, it shows only "Network Settings", and when I open it, it shows GNOME 3's new Network Manager app, and it pops out the dialog saying that, "Current network settings service is incompatible with this version". And after a few seconds of log in, the shell freezes and all I can do is log out using Ctrl+Alt+BackSpace. I'm facing this problem since I opened old network manager app using nm-connection-manager in the run dialog, and editing my connection to connect automatically. After logging in to the shell I somehow managed to delete that connection from the same app and created a new one, but the problem still exists. How can I delete all network preferences (by deleting its configuration files from my home directory or something like that) and reset the GNOME 3's network manager to its default state?

• Auto Save and Auto Load Game onto the Device's Storage Concept Question

  I'm trying to make a simple app that will test the save and load state. Is it a good idea to make an app that has an auto save and load game feature only every time the newbies open the first app then continues it on the other day? I tried making a sprite that is moving, starting at the center. When I close and re-open the app, the sprite goes back to the center instead of the last coordinate where the sprite land on this part (i.e. at the top). The thing I want to know how the sequence of saving and loading goes like this: I open the app The starting sprite at the center. It displays a coordinate of the sprite plus number of times does the sprite move. I exit the app that automatically saves the game without notice. Finally, when I re-opened it, it automatically loads the game retaining the number of times the sprite move, coordinates, and the sprite's area landed. These steps above are similar, but not the sprite movement test app, to the sequence of saving and loading the game's level and record in Jewel Stackers for the Android app. And, by default, if there is no SD card in any tab or phone that runs on Android, does it automatically save/load onto the internal drive or the APK file itself? • Ubuntu Server 12.04 as a router. Problem with DNS

  I have a virtualbox lab made up of 4 Windows 2008 R2 servers (DC/DNS,SQL,SHAREPOINT, EXCHANGE) that are configured with static ip addresses with NIC's attached to Internal network. Everything works. I had the requirement to execute some tests that also access external services available on the internet. To keep things clean and similar to the production environment I have installed another VM, with Ubuntu Server 12.04 64 bit and configured (I hope) to work as a router like described on this post. This VM has two network interfaces: first is Bridged with the host and is used as a WAN connection and the other one attached in the Internal Network with its own static IP address on the internal network subnet. But actually the Windows servers does not connect to the internet while the unix one connects. • IIS6 Permissions

  We have a set of IIS6 Jakarta/ASP.NET applications (implemented as virtual directories) on a machine without a domain. The directories all exist under the default website. We need to setup the permissions so that certain users can access only specific applications yet others users can access several of the applications. The way it's been setup previously has been to explicitly deny access to the users for every application except the ones that they are allowed to see. The problem is that the list of applications changes fairly often (for demos etc) and it's been known for the developers to forget to deny the old users access to the new applications which leads to security problems. This is all quite unmaintainable. Does anybody have any advice on this? Surely I can't be the only person to find this all a bit of a mess? Thanks

I need to discover their mac address with the following situation : MacBookPro >----------< Server I'm directly connected (not behind a router/switch) to the server. I've no clues about the ip address the server is using as default setup. I can't use a display connected to the server displaying its newtwork card config. How can I discover the MAC address of the server network card ? I'm looking for a command line tool. If something exists in MacPort it's also ok !

• Unable to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 on Virtualbox on Windows 7 Host

  I would like to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 in a virtual box on windows 7 host however I get a black screen after selecting to install Ubuntu i.e. right after choosing English language I have tried the 32bit and 64bit version desktop version, have also read thru some guides e.g. http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/virtualbox but I could not find any solution to fix this problem. BTW I have Ubuntu installed using Virtual PC (not running at the same time), also I have mac OS (mountain lion) installed using Virtual Box so I do not think it is a problem with the virtual box or windows 7 host. My VM configuration is with 1 core and 1 GB of ram using 20GB VDI; rest is default config. My hardware is Core i7 3770k / Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe / GSkill 32GB which I believe should be more than sufficient to run another VM. I have moved my user profile from SSD to HDD via junction however IMHO it should not matter. Has anyone else come across this problem and found a solution? Any help/thoughts on how to solve this would be very much appreciated.
