  Hello! I'm very new to actionscript 3.0 and flash in general. I'm trying to update a website that someone else did with flash, and am having issues with it. I need a button to link to an outside website, but I keep getting the error "access of undefined property" on my button. • How to use a c# datagridview to update a database file just like Access does?

  I have googled everywhere and I am finally giving up and asking here. I am working in Visual Studio 2010 with C#. I have set up a form with a datagridview connected to a MSSQL database and I need to save changes made in the datagridview back to the physical database. I am having some success but I think that I am going about some of it completely wrong because I can not get it to save consistently. What I really want is for the updates to work just like they do when working with Access. When I edit a row in the datagridview and then leave that row, either by selecting another row or by selecting some other control on the form or even by changing to another form or quitting the application the row should be automatically pdated to the physical database. The first part of this question I think is, what is the proper event to use to trigger the save and then second what methods should be used to actually write the data to the database?

• Data mining logs to locate a bug

  I'm working on a data distribution application which receives data from a source and distributes that data to multiple target application. After successfully distributing several messages each second for 8 days, it missed a single message and did not deliver it properly to the clients. As I was looking at the logs I tried to find something there that was special for the time the miss happend - either in the data, its rate or some other condition but couldn't find anything. Is there any data mining technique I can use to identify how that specific event differs from other events?

  If I handle the PreviewMouseDown event on TreeViewItem, I get events for everything I click on that TreeViewItem include the little +/- box to the left (Windows XP). How can I distinguish that? • How do I read CalDAV objects from Google using python/django?

  I've looked at vObject, iCalendar and the official list of CalDAV libraries, including 3 in python. However, I can't find any code that can get me an event object from a given CalDAV (i.e. google, exchange, etc.) server using a username/password. Most of the django calendar related code uses native code libraries and not WebDAV. An ideal python CalDAV client example would 1) use a given uid/pw, 2) obtain primary calendar and 3) obtain next appointment information (i.e. subject, location, start, end, etc.) Thanks!

• Painting to Form then to Printer

  I often find myself needing to create custom reports that do NOT work with Crystal Reports or Report Viewer. Often, I hack a DataTable together and dumping that into a DataGridView control. It is never pretty, and printing is difficult. What I need is a class that I can call using the OnPaint event, but I've never sat down and written all of the Pen and Brush commands until now. Painting to the screen and painting to a printer both use the Graphics object, so I want to build a class that I'd pass in the Graphics object, my window bounds (a Rectangle), and some data (in the form of an instance of my class) that I'd use to paint a form or a sheet of paper. That sounds like a great concept! Surely, someone has done something like this before. Does anyone know of a book, a website tutorial, or video that goes into this? If someone wants to write all that out for me here, more power to you - but I'd think that would be too much work.

• Android x86 porting, unable to make it work

  I'm kind of new to the whole porting issue and I got to it because of the slowness in the emulator provided with the Android SDK. I downloaded the android-x86-3.2-RC2-eeepc and android-x86-3.2-RC2-tegav2 ISO-es (from this site) and tried them on the VirtualBox but have no internet connection on the eeepc version and the tegev2 wont event start. I tried the VirtualBoxHowTo but got nothing, on both Windows and Linux platforms. the only thing I managed to understand is that to use this on a VM you need to build it for VM. Can anyone help me on this? P.S.: I need the HoneyComb version (3.2) and the pc I have is a AMD 6 core on and Asus Crosshair Extreme motherboard, Windows 7 or Ubunutu 11.10. (both OS are 64bit)

• Silverlight - rebinding to a property?

  Hello, I'm just getting started with silverlight. Basically I have a silverlight user control that has various dataGrids and a combobox, their item sources set to the properties of a custom plain c# object. My problem is that I have a dropdown list that when a user selects an item from the list a new row should appear in one of the grids. All I'm doing is handling the SelectionChanged event and adding a new item to to a list in my custom object and setting the itemsource for the grid again. This doesnt seem to work; no row is added to the dataGrid I have no idea how to force my grid to "rebind" to this property. I've been reading about dependency properties, are these what I need? Any pointers would be really appreciated.

But whenever I replace a string with a dom element (<img> or <span> or whatever..), the div stops being editable (i.e. I can see the caret when I click on text, but can add no characters to it). What's going on?   Hi there, I'm using WCF client like this... var client = new TestClient(); try { response = service.Operation(request); } finally { try { if (client.State != CommunicationState.Faulted) client.Close(); } catch (Exception) { client.Abort(); } } but from time to time I get 500 HTTP error which is the only answer I get for next 15 minutes, then everything is back to normal for 15 minutes and so on. I know there is some load balancing stuff going on service side but guys there can't find any problems with it. That's why I started wondering am I using WCF service correctly. I already made a mistake once when I was using "using" to close service connection and I'm afraid I doing something wrong again. So can anybody say whether my way of calling WCF service is correct or not in all (event the most rare) circumstances?

• C# WinForms: How to load an image, then wait a few seconds, then play a mp3 sound ?

  Hello everybody, (after pressing a button) i would like to show an image (using a picturebox), wait a few seconds and then play a mp3 sound, but i dont get it to work. To wait a few seconds i use "System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000)". The problem is, the image alway appears AFTER the wait time, but i want it to show first, then wait, then play the mp3... i tried to use "WaitOnLoad = true" but it doesnt work, shouldn't it load the image first and the continue to read the next code line ?? Here is the code i've tried, that doesnt work: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { pictureBox1.WaitOnLoad = true; pictureBox1.Load("image.jpg"); System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000); MessageBox.Show("test"); //just to test, here should be the code to play the mp3 } (i also tried loading the image with "LoadAsync" and put the code to wait and play the mp3 in the "LoadCompleted" event, but that doesnt work either...) would be very nice if somebody helps me

• Response.Redirect in HttpModule

  Can I do a redirect to a custom page in an HttpModule? I have an HttpModule A which executes some javascript code when any aspx page is loaded. I would like to have a server side code check to see if the clients browsers supports cookies. Can I place that code in the HttpModule A? If so, in which event? Or do I need to have a new HttpHandler for both purposes? Also, is it possible to check for cookies in an HttpModule(without a response.redirect)? All solutions I have seen need 2 pages, 1 for setting the cookie and the other for checking if the cookie has actually been created. I am hoping there should be a way to check for cookies at one place. Thanks in advance

• Best way to handle input from a keyboard "wedge"

  I'm writing a C# POS (point of sale) system that takes input from a keyboard wedge magcard reader. This means that any data it reads off of a mag stripe is entered as if it were typed on the keyboard very quickly. Currently I'm handling this by attaching to the KeyPress event and looking for a series of very fast key presses that contain the card swipe sentinel characters. Is there a better way to deal with this sort of input? Edit: The device does simply present the data as keystrokes and doesn't interface through some other driver. Also We use a wide range of these types of devices so ideally a method should work independent of the specific model of wedge being used. However if there is no other option I'll have to make do.

  Hey Guys. I'm very new with rails and I've been building a CMS application backend. All is going well, but I would like to know if this is possible? Basically I have two models: @page { id, name, number } @extended_page { id, page_id, description, image } The idea is that there are bunch of pages but NOT ALL pages have extended_content. In the event that there is a page with extended content then I want to be able to have a form that allows for editing both of them. In the controller: @page = Page.find(params[:id]) @extended= Extended.find(:first, :conditions = ["page_id = ?",@page.id]) @combined = ... #merge the two somehow So in the view: <%- form_for @combined do |f| % <%= f.label :name % <%= f.text_field :name % ... <%= f.label :description % <%= f.text_field :description % <%- end This way in the controller, there only has to be one model that will be updated (which will update to both).   I found that a website does somewhat sneaky things. When you hover over a link, it shows you the real URL. WHen you click on it, it uses the click/mousedown event to rewrite the URL. I want to override that behaviour in firefox, So I fired up firebug to see what it does. On a mouse click, it executes a function called window.tgs. Easy, I thought. I can override this function. My first attempt was to do get the element via getELementsByTagName(), and then element.removeEventListener("click",window.tgs, false); To my surprise, this did nothing. I tried redefining window.tgs window.tgs = function() { return true; }; that did not do anything either. I am not a JS expert. Your insights appreciated thanks Sid

• What's the smartest way to organize SVN for translated versions of the same project?

  I apologize because I know this has been covered over and over again, but I'm trying to understand the smartest way to cleverly use subversion to our benefit. (*Note: I know our method is not the BEST way to handle localized versions, but external factors are forcing us to work this way on current projects) We have a fairly static website in English...html, css, js, etc. After the site comes back from the translator we will have 5 variations of the same code (this week...then potentially 25 more in the future!). So we'll soon have a folder for EN, FR, SP, DE, etc. Most files (css, js, img) will remain exactly the same; and html files (structure, id's, classes) will only vary based on the localized text inside the elements. Is there any way to use clever SVN folder structuring that would help us out in the event that if a small change is needed, we don't have to manually change the files in each and every translated version of the site? • how to draw a line between two labels in a panel where labels are added during runtime

  A panel contains two labels which are generated by mouse clicks on the panel. I want to connect these two labels by drawing a line between them probably by dragging the mouse pointer from one label to another. There are two events here - one is clicking on the panel to generate the labels and the second is connecting these two labels (mouse pressed, mouse dragged and mouse released events). Both these event need to call the repaint() method but for different purposes. But there can be only one paint() method. The problem is when I connect these two labels, the line comes up but the rest of the components on the panel disappear.

• How to effectively draw on desktop in C#?

  I want to draw directly on the desktop in C#. From searching a bit, I ended up using a Graphics object from the Desktop HDC (null). Then, I painted normally using this Graphics object. The problem is that my shapes get lost when any part of the screen is redrawn. I tried a While loop, but it actually ends up drawing as fast as the application can, which is not the update rate of the desktop. Normally, I would need to put my drawing code in a "OnPaint" event, but such thing does not exist for the desktop. How would I do it?
