• What should I name instances of a twisted.internet.defer.Deferred?

  I'm writing code using Twisted, and having trouble coming up with a sensible variable name for my twisted internet deferred's. Here are my candidates: d : Too generic, too short, violates pylint rule C0103. def : Conflicts with function defintion builtin. defer : Conflicts with module twisted.internet.defer deferred : OK but pretty long cb : Still too short, violates pylint C0103, conflicts with many callback method names. cback : Too Weird? callback : Conflicts with method Deferred.callback() I'm looking for other suggestions. It seems like most of the Twisted example code uses "d" which is fine for simple invocations, but when you're passing Deferred's around to methods and storing them as member variables, it's really far too descriptive.

• Application window sent behind other windows on closing different thread (C#)

  I'm writing a Windows Forms Application in C#.NET On startup, the application displays a splash screen which is running in a separate thread. Whilst the splash screen is showing, the main application is initialising. Once the main application has finished initialising, the main form of the application is displayed, and the splash screen still shows over the top. Everything so far is as expected. Then, the Splash screen is closed, which causes that thread to exit. For some reason, at the point, the main application windows gets sent behind all other open Windows, notably the Windows Explorer window where you clicked the .exe file to run the application in the first place! What could be causing the windows to suddenly jump "behind" like this?

Any idea if the name can be the number of the match in the loop or a slugified version of the text between the h2 tags? • Java how to load modules

  heres my problem: im building a server that loads modules. each module is a .jar file. inside the jar theres all the classes that the module need. the server needs to read the jar, find the main class (it doesnt have the main method on it is just the class that makes the module work but not as a different program), build an object of that class and store it in a vector of modules so that it can acces to a specific module depending on the job to be done. how can i do that? as far as the server, it is listening and reciving request, but thes no modules to delegate the job to, since my vector of modules is empty

• AS3 Passing data between objects/classes

  So i a building a categorized menu of different foods. I have a class for "categories" (buttons) which essentially will return a string "salads", "drinks", etc. I now have another class "menuItems" for items within categories and this handles sizes such as "small", "med", "large", etc. My problem now is that when i return "salads", i want to invoke an array which contains all the elements of salads, send it to menuItems which will populate the menu. So far i have both the category objects and the menu object setup. I just cant seem to be able to send the data that the category object is returning and pass it to the menu object. Both of which are added to the stage as shown below: If there was a way that i could say add all these classes to one class so that they can talk to each other that would be great but i dont know how to do this. Been stuck for hours, please any help is greatly appreciated.

• Wait for animation, render to complete - XAML and C#

  Hi all. I have a situation where I am animating part of my XAML application, and I need to wait for the animation AND rendering to complete before I can move on in my code. So far the tail end of my function looks like: ProcExpandCollapse.Begin(); while (ProcExpandCollapse.GetCurrentState() != ClockState.Stopped) { } } Which, in theory, will wait until the animation is finished. But it will not wait until the rendering is finished - the thread drawing the application might still not have re-drawn the animation. The animation is expanding a UIElement, and then the next part of my code uses it's rendered size to do some things. My question then is, how do I wait until my UI Element is re-rendered before moving on?

• How can I save/print values in my WATCH list in Visual Studio 2008?

  When I attach the Visual Studio 2008 debugger to my web server process, I sometimes browse a large amount of data in my watch list. Suppose I have an array of string variable that I expand to show 20 entries. It seems that the only way to save these values is to copy and paste them one at a time. I have gone so far as to do a screen-shot in order to have a record of what the values were (to refer to later or print a hard copy). Is there an easy way to save and print these values? I am familiar with the new "IntelliTrace" feature in Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, but it seems overkill for this purpose. I just want to take something like an array of strings and save it for later reference once I've stopped the debugger. What's a good way to do this?

  Trying to grasp Prototyping in Javascript. Trying to create my own namespace to extend the String object in JavaScript. Here is what I have so far (a snippet): var ns { alert: function() { alert (this); } } String.prototype.$ns = ns; As you can see, I am trying to place what will be a series of functions into the ns namespace. So I can execute a command like this: "hello world".$ns.alert(); But the problem is, the this doesn't seem to reference the text being sent (in this case, "hello world"). What I get is an alert box with the following: [object Object] Not having a full grasp of the object-oriented nature of JavaScript, I am at a loss, but I am guessing I am missing something simple. Does anyone know how to achieve this? Thanks -

• Subversion Copy Hook on Windows

  Hi I am working on a web based project in my free time. I have SVN set up on my machine (running XP). What I would like to do is have a copy of my repository copied to the htdocs folder (Dev machine) post-commit via a hook. That way I can test my changes in a browser. I know that I can write up a .bat file, but I'm not sure what the syntax would be. I can do a basic DOS Copy command, but I saw one example that provided a username and password to SVN at copy time. Do I need to do this? Can someone point me in the right direction as far a syntax for the .bat file? Or maybe even suggest a better method. Thanks

  Hi, Is it possible to import managed keywords into SharePoint 2010? Where are the keywords stored within which database? Background - I'm currently working on a migration from a legacy system into SharePoint 2010. So far everything is going well, and I can even bring across the managed meta data across along with most other data. The process I use was built for SharePoint 2007 to update Lists over SOAP. With a few manual tweaks I've managed to get the metadata to come across. To bring across either managed metadata or managed keywords I need to know the ID for the existing label/keyword. I have this for the Managed Metadata however not for the Managed Keyword. Currently I create a CSV file to be imported for managed metadata before working out the reverent GUID for the source label. • iOS sdk question: how do I cast a UIView to a UIImage View (alternativly how do I get a UIImageView from a GestureRecognzer?)

  Desired end result: user taps a UIImageView and the image changes to another image (a subsequent tap returns the image to the original state) Problem: I add a (unique) selector to a bunch of UIImageViews (in an array) and point the action at the same function - let's call this function imageTapped: for now. Here is my code so far: -(void)imageTapped:(UITapGestureRecognizer *)tapGesture { UIImageView *view = tapGesture.view; // rest of code... } This code actually works fine but gets a warning when I run it: "Incompatible objective c types initilizing 'struct UIView *', expected 'struct UIImageView *' Any way to get rid of this? Not sure how casting works in objective c... primitive types seem to work fine such as (int)someFloat works fine but (UIImageView)someUiView doesn't work. Like I said, code works alright when I run it but would like to get ride of the compiler warning. Any help would be awesome.... I am very new to objective c (or any non java language for that matter) so be gentle. Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I’m currently trying to develop a method to get a overview of all my different web templates I’ve created and (legally) downloaded over the years. I thought about a displaying them like Wordpress is previewing it’s templates view a small preview windows, displaying the concrete file with styles and everything. How to divide them into rows and columns and create AJAX modal window open on preview and pagination and so on I believe I can manage, but it is the concept itself about iterate over several folders then find all index.htm / index.html pages and displaying them. I’ve not worked very much with directories in PHP and the only references and code stumps I’ve found so far is just to list all the files in a certain directory like, what it contains. I would be really grateful if someone knew about a script, a function, snippet or just could get me a nudge in the right direction to create such a (probably simple) preview function. • Extracting two strings from quotations in Java using regex?

  Hi everyone, I'm new to using patterns and looked everywhere on the internet for an explanation to this problem. Say I have a string: String info = "Data I need to extract is 'here' and 'also here'"; How would I extract the words: here also here without the single quotes using a pattern? This is what I have so far... Pattern p = Pattern.compile("(?<=\').*(?=\')"); But it returns ( here and 'also here ) minus the brackets, that is just for viewing. It skips over the second piece of data and goes straight to the last quote... Thank you!

• transition background-image/css change on hover?

  I have a thumb nail inside another div, when the thumbnail is hovered I want the parent div to fade/transition to the background of the thumbnail, then fade back to the original image after hover.   I am writing a C/C++ extension module for other languages and I am using SWIG to generate the bindings. I have two questions Can I include more than 1 header file in the declaration part of the interface file e.g.: /* Declarations exposed to wrapper: */ > %{ > #define SWIG_FILE_WITH_INIT > #include "a.h" > #include "b.h" > #include "c.h" %} In all of the examples I have seen so far, after the header include declaration (as shown above), the functions declared in the header are then declared again in the interface file. Is this really necessary, as it means there are two copies of the function declarations that need to be maintained. Note: I can appreciate that some functions/methods declaration may need to be 'decorated' with the 'newobject' declaration so these obviously need to be in the interface file, to avoid memory leaks - however, I would have though that it would be sufficient to include the headers and then ONLY the declarations of the functions/methods that need to be declared with 'newobject' - is this recommended way of doing things?

  Hi, I have a control that has a "Filter" property that expects a function that defines how the contents of the control should be filtered. so far i am setting the filter in code behind as such: MyControl.Filter = AddressOf Filters.MyFilter In this example MyFilter is a shared function in the Filters class with the following signature: Public Shared Function MyFilter(ByVal obj As Object, ByVal text As String) As Boolean I would like to set this in xaml. I was thinking of setting the Filters.MyFilter as a static resource and setting it that way: ...Filter="{StaticResource myFilter}"/ but i cant set Filters.MyFilter as a static resource.   Hi, Im not much of a php coder, mainly use VB. But i had a problem with one of my apps. To make it more secure i would need each php parameter to go through one site. Here is an example of what i mean: Application loads sends ip and location to 2 servers (a.php & b.php) the problem so far is that the pc is making direct connections to these pages. What i was trying to do is make it so that it only sends one command to z.php and the page z.php would send the data to a.php and b.php. My question is how would i set up z.php? I hope i make sense, i have looked everywhere and couldnt find an answer.

  I am writing a small program for my assignment to find the primitive roots of a prime number. So far, the program works for smaller prime numbers till 13 and gives correct number of roots. But for higher primes numbers, it is showing only fewer primitive roots. And now i got stuck for the prime number 41, shows no primitive roots for it. I used DOUBLE datatype for the calculation, and again tried with the datatype DECIMAL, but no luck. Does anyone know about this kind of problem??? Thank you.

  I have a python program that imports pythoncom (and uses pythoncom.CoCreateInstance from it). I want to create a unittest for the program logic without it importing pythoncom (so I can run the test on Linux as well). What options are there? Can I do it without modifying the system under test? What I found so far: sys.modules["pythoncom"] = "test" import module_that_imports_pythoncom My problem with it is if I have: from pythoncom.something import something I'll get: ImportError: No module named something.something And sys.modules["something.something"] or sys.modules["pythoncom.something.something"] doesn't work. Any ideas?

• How does one receive and post text messages on a website, a la Twitter?

  I've looked around at pretty much all the SMS posts here on SO and the best answer I've come up with so far is ZeepMobile. The only problem is, they're "in beta" and aren't readily accepting users. Is there a workaround for this, maybe receiving an email via text (kind of like how TwitPic does it?) somehow and parsing it? Basically all I want to do is have people text the site so that their message posts... I don't need to send any messages (actually I would prefer not to). Pretty much the same functionality as Twitter (same functionality, but no I'm not building a Twitter-esque service because I am not crazy). PS this will be a VB.NET ASP.NET 3.5 solution. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

  I'm using the O_DIRECT flag to write to the disk directly from the user buffer. But as far as I understand, Linux doesn't guarantee that after this call, the data is written. It just writes directly from the user buffer to the physical device using DMA or anything else... Therefore, I don't understand if I can write to the user buffer after the call to 'write' function. I'm sure that example code will help to understand my question: char *user_buff = malloc(...); /* assume it is aligned as needed */ fd = open(..., O_DIRECT); write(fd, ...) memset(user_buff, 0, ...) Is the last line (memset) legal? Is writing to the user buffer valid that is maybe used by DMA to transfer data to the device?

• R scatterplot overplotting color

  So far I have this: qplot(df[[1]], as.numeric(rownames(df)), group=df[[2]], color=df[[2]], ylab="") I want to use different colors for the points in the 2 groups - perhaps a lighter shade for the what's in black now and a darker - say, red for what's in blue. Also, I want to use hexbin kind of thing for group=0 but not for group=1. I'm not able to get the syntax to get this working. In the current plot 0 is in black and 1 is in blue. Added: I worked on it some more, and by using factor and scale_colour_manual, I got the grey color for 0 and red for 1: > palette1 [1] "grey" "red" "blue" "violet" "black" fy=factor(y, labels=c('grey', 'red')) qplot(x, seq(1:length(x)),col=fy, ylab="") + geom_point() + scale_colour_manual(values=palette1) Pending questions are: How to first plot all the grey and then red on top (some of the red is now hidden because the grey is plotted over). How to apply the hexbin logic for group0 i.e. the grey points only and not for the red.

• Optimal way to store and pass a date to Javascript

  I need to store a date-time value in MySQL and subsequently display it on a webpage. Due to its flexibility I usually chose to store a Unix timestamp in the database and convert it with PHP's date() to the desired format. This time however I would like to use MySQL's datetime field (mostly due to 2038) and apply the browser's timezone (hence I cannot simply format it on the server and pass the string to the client). I thought of storing the date as UTC datetime in the database and send it as well-defined format to the client, where it will be further processed. Here I would like to avoid a Unix timestamp but everything else might add additional overhead in processing. Is there any best practice as far as date processing is concerned in a MySQL, PHP, JQuery environment? Thanks.
