  • How can I see a visual overlay of shortcut keys I've pressed?

    I've seen several screencasts (recorded on Mac OS X) which show a nice little "toast" indicating which shortcut key is being pressed by the screencaster, typically in the middle of the screen. Is this a feature of the screencasting software? Is there an app that does this that stands alone? I regularly do presentations for programming classes, and I want a way to show my audience what shortcuts I'm activating.

  • Hardware imposed 32-bit limit

    i'm thinking about converting my OS (ubuntu) to the 64 bit version to use the last bit of memory (4 gb)—ok, it's rather reinstalling … will this work as expected or are there possible limits given by the mainboard/memory controller/some other component, so i cannot fully utilize my full ram? if so, are there benefits from upgrading anyway?

  • Dropbox doesn't recognize camera (for Camera Upload)

    I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro 13" 2011 version, trying to use Dropbox 1.4.7 Camera Upload. When I connect my Sony HDR-XR260 video camera or my Blackberry Torch 9800 via USB or even an SD card via the built-in reader, Dropbox never recognizes any of it and the pop-up dialog box never pops up to ask me if I want to import my videos or not. I do have the option enabled in DB preferences. Any solutions?

    I see there are thousands of files in my "/tmp" directory (a CentOS machine) and almost all of them are PHP session files. I'm worried about the possible impact this might have on my system. Are those files ever deleted either by the OS, Apache or PHP? or I have to take care of it myself?

    I have a fresh install of Windows and a Linux OS that I can't access, how do I fix this? I do not have the .iso/disk for Linux anymore. So I figured, I can install Cygwin and through that install Grub, but I am used to Linux Mint, which uses apt-get. I have used CentOS before which uses rpm, but how do I install and use packages in the Cygwin terminal, and is it possible to install Grub through Cygwin?

  • Compiz: Switching focus by application instead of by window

    I got used to OS X way of doing things (separate shortcuts for switching between applications and switching between current application's windows). Is there a way to get Compiz to have a shortcut (such as Super+Tab) to switch between applications ("window groups") instead of between windows? I already got the "Scale" plugin (an expose clone) to display only windows from current window group, proving there is a way to group by application, but I cannot find a way to get the "Application Switcher" to switch between these groups instead of between windows themselves.

However it is not a linux problem....if I just leave the computer on at the no operating system found message, it still turns off.     Every time I open iTunes I get the the following warning: Do you want the application "iTunes.app" to accept incoming network connections? Clicking Deny may limit the application's behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences. I always click "Allow" but it still pops up. I set the OS X firewall to allow incoming connections for iTunes. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • How can I crop every page of a large PDF file?

    I have a 1300 page PDF file of a scanned book that was unfortunately not cropped when scanned. The actual book page dimensions are around 6x9", but each scanned page is 8.5x11", the size of the scanner bed. For much smaller PDF files I could throw it into Photoshop and crop the page, but this is a huge file. What is the best way to losslessly crop all of the pages of the file, in either Windows or OS X?

    I would like to know if there is a systematical way (software) to capture a fixed region on the screen, under Windows 7 or OS X. It must be accurate about the region. I always want to capture the region with left-top coordinate (300, 300) and right-bottome coordinate (800, 800). So I can't not select the region by mouse myself.   • Proper upgrade path for Windows 7 to Windows 8 when the directory setup is non-standard

    I have both a HDD and a SSD in my computer and after installing Windows I moved things around a little to ensure that the OS is on the SSD but my user profile resides on the SSD (with a few exceptions). I used junction points heavily for that. Windows and most applications are fine with that and it works well. Now I wonder whether I can in-place upgrade this to Windows 8 while retaining that exact setup or whether there is anything I can do to ease the upgrade process.
