  • cancelPreviousPerformRequestWithTarget is not canceling my previously delayed thread started with pe

    - by jmurphy
Hello, I've launched a delayed thread using performSelector but the user still has the ability to hit the back button on the current view causing dealloc to be called. When this happens my thread still seems to be called which causes my app to crash because the properties that thread is trying to write to have been released. To solve this I am trying to call cancelPreviousPerformRequestsWithTarget to cancel the previous request but it doesn't seem to be working. Below are some code snippets. - (void) viewDidLoad { [self performSelector:@selector(myStopUpdatingLocation) withObject:nil afterDelay:6]; } (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated { [NSObject cancelPreviousPerformRequestsWithTarget:self selector:@selector(myStopUpdatingLocation) object:nil]; } Am I doing something incorrect here? The method myStopUpdatingLocation is defined in the same class that I'm calling the perform requests. A little more background. The function that I'm trying to implement is to find a users location, search google for some locations around that location and display several annotations on the map. On viewDidLoad I start updating the location with CLLocationManager. I've build in a timeout after 6 seconds if I don't get my desired accuracy within the timeout and I'm using a performSelector to do this. What can happen is the user clicks the back button in the view and this thread will still execute even though all my properties have been released causing a crash. Thanks in advance! James

  • A NSMutableArray is destroying my life!

    - by camilo
EDITED to show the relevant part of the code Hi. There's a strange problem with an NSMutableArray which I'm just not understanding... Explaining: I have a NSMutableArray, defined as a property (nonatomic, retain), synthesized, and initialized with 29 elements. realSectionNames = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:29]; After the initialization, I can insert elements as I wish and everything seems to be working fine. While I'm running the application, however, if I insert a new element in the array, I can print the array in the function where I inserted the element, and everything seems ok. However, when I select a row in the table, and I need to read that array, my application crashes. In fact, it cannot even print the array anymore. Is there any "magical and logical trick" everybody should know when using a NSMutableArray that a beginner like myself can be missing? Thanks a lot. I declare my array as realSectionNames = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:29]; I insert objects in my array with [realSectionNames addObject:[category categoryFirstLetter]]; although I know i can also insert it with [realSectionNames insertObject:[category categoryFirstLetter] atIndex:i]; where the "i" is the first non-occupied position. After the insertion, I reload the data of my tableView. Printing the array before or after reloading the data shows it has the desired information. After that, selecting a row at the table makes the application crash. This realSectionNames is used in several UITableViewDelegate functions, but for the case it doesn't matter. What truly matters is that printing the array in the beginning of the didSelectRowAtIndexPath function crashes everything (and of course, doesn't print anything). I'm pretty sure it's in that line, for printing anything he line before works (example): NSLog(@"Anything"); NSLog(@"%@", realSectionNames); gives the output: 2010-03-24 15:16:04.146 myApplicationExperience[3527:207] Anything [Session started at 2010-03-24 15:16:04 +0000.] GNU gdb 6.3.50-20050815 (Apple version gdb-967) (Tue Jul 14 02:11:58 UTC 2009) Copyright 2004 Free Software Foundation, Inc. • Could InAppSettingsKit do this, or is there another library?

    - by cannyboy
I'm trying to implement a system whereby the user is initially presented with a single tablecell, in a uitableview (grouped style), within a uinavigationview. --------------- + | add record | --------------- When they click on the cell, they are pushed onto a new screen where they fill in a few textviews (perhaps imbedded in a tableview's cells) --------------- | (name) | --------------- | (phone num) | --------------- Then when they go back, they can see the new record as well as the 'add record' cell. --------------- | record 1 | --------------- + | add record | --------------- (When they go into record 1 again there would be a delete button) Is there any sample code or libraries which would achieve this? What about InAppSettingsKit? It's more the presentation I'm concerned with. I can handle the saving of data myself.

  • Concept: Mapping irregular shapes (cartoons, sprites) to triangles in OpenGL ES

    - by Moshe
I understand how mapping a triangle texture to a triangle works, but how do you map other things? I can't see myself mapping a circle onto a triangle. If it were a quad (square), I could see it happening, but why would a graphic not get warped on a triangle? EDIT: Bonus question: What are some good OpenGL ES tutorials online? Videos and articles count. (I've seen the Stanford University stuff on iTunes U and think it's excellent, but I want more.)

  • Isn't it better to create the subview hierarchy in -viewDidLoad rather than in -loadView?

    - by dontWatchMyProfile
The docs say that the whole subview hierarchy can be created in -loadView. But there's also this -viewDidLoad method which sounds nice to ovewrite for actually building the hierarchy, when the view loaded. I guess it's a matter of taste only. But maybe doing so in -viewDidLoad hast the advantage that the view controller already adjusted the frame of the view correctly to accomodate for the status bar or any other kind of bar like tab bar or tool bar?

  • Passing Data thru NSTimer UserInfo

    - by zorro2b
    I a trying to pass data thru userInfo for an NSTimer call. What is the best way to do this? I am trying to use an NSDictionary, this is simple enough when I have objective c objects, but what about other data? I want to do something like this, which doesn't work as is: - (void) play:(SystemSoundID)sound target:(id)target callbackSelector:(SEL)selector { NSLog(@"pause ipod"); [iPodController pause]; theSound = sound; NSMutableDictionary *cb = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [cb setObject:(id)&sound forKey:@"sound"]; [cb setObject:target forKey:@"target"]; [cb setObject:(id)&selector forKey:@"selector"]; [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0 target:self selector: @selector(notifyPause1:) userInfo:(id)cb repeats:NO]; }

  • Why does this code sometimes return NaN?

    - by carrots
This often returns NAN ("Not A Number") depending on input: #define PI 3.1415f GLfloat sineEaseIn(GLfloat ratio) { return 1.0f-cosf(ratio * (PI / 2.0f)); } I tried making PI a few digits smaller to see if that would help. No dice. Then I thought it might be a datatype mismatch, but float and glfloat seem to be equivalent: gl.h typedef float GLfloat; math.h extern float cosf( float ); Is this a casting issue?

  • How to achieve a hidden status bar using three20 framework

    - by Angelfilm Entertainment
I'm using the TTThumbsViewController section of the three20 framework, and I have the status bar hidden throughout my application. When the user views the full size image, taps the screen(hiding the controls), when they tap again the controls reappear but the status bar is there too. I've searched through the whole library and been unable to isolate the section where this is happening. I'd love it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks, BB

  • drawRect is not refreshing the screen

    - by coure06
I have this code in my drawRect method float aValue = .0167f; float fValue = 20; for(int i=1; i<=6; i++) { CGContextSelectFont(context, "Arial", fValue, kCGEncodingMacRoman); CGContextSetCharacterSpacing(context, 0); CGContextSetTextDrawingMode(context, kCGTextFill); NSString *hString = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%i",i]; CGContextSetRGBFillColor(context, 1, 1, 1, aValue); CGContextShowTextAtPoint(context, i*25, i*16, [hString UTF8String], [hString length]); aValue += 0.167; fValue += 1; } I am calling a method using NSTimer like this staticTimer = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:1.0 target:self selector:@selector(refreshUIView) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; here is the refreshUIView -(void)refreshUIView { [self setNeedsDisplay]; } Problem is that drawRect is not clearing the screen, its just over writing what have been written last time on screen.

  • setNeedsDisplayInRect: paints a white rectangle only

    - by Ion Tichy
Hi, I'm still a little fresh to CoreGraphics programming, so please bear with me. I'm trying to write an application, which allows the user to rub stuff off an image with the finger. I have the basic functionality nailed down, but the result is sluggish since the screen is redrawn completely every time a touch is rendered. I did some research and found out that I can refresh only a portion of the screen using UIView's setNeedsDisplayInRect: method. This does call drawRect: as expected, however everything I draw in the drawRect: following the setNeedsDisplayInRect: is ignored. Instead, the area in the rect parameter is simply filled with white. No matter what I draw inside, all I end up with is a white rectangle. In essence, this is what I do: 1) when user touches screen, this touch is rendered into a mask 2) when the drawRect: is called, the image is masked with that mask There must be something simple I'm overlooking, surely?

I have 32 images and I was adding them like this [theCarPics addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"1.jpg"]]; [theCarPics addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"2.jpg"]]; //... [theCarPics addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"32.jpg"]]; is there a simpler way? loop perhaps? Any ideas would be appreciated guys Thanks Sam
