  • Apply a recursive CTE on grouped table rows (SQL server 2005).

    - by Evan V.
    Hi all, I have a table (ROOMUSAGE) containing the times people check in and out of rooms grouped by PERSONKEY and ROOMKEY. It looks like this: PERSONKEY | ROOMKEY | CHECKIN | CHECKOUT | ROW ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | 8 | 13-4-2010 10:00 | 13-4-2010 11:00 | 1 1 | 8 | 13-4-2010 08:00 | 13-4-2010 09:00 | 2 1 | 1 | 13-4-2010 15:00 | 13-4-2010 16:00 | 1 1 | 1 | 13-4-2010 14:00 | 13-4-2010 15:00 | 2 1 | 1 | 13-4-2010 13:00 | 13-4-2010 14:00 | 3 13 | 2 | 13-4-2010 15:00 | 13-4-2010 16:00 | 1 13 | 2 | 13-4-2010 15:00 | 13-4-2010 16:00 | 2 I want to select just the consecutive rows for each PERSONKEY, ROOMKEY grouping. So the desired resulting table is: PERSONKEY | ROOMKEY | CHECKIN | CHECKOUT | ROW ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | 8 | 13-4-2010 10:00 | 13-4-2010 11:00 | 1 1 | 1 | 13-4-2010 15:00 | 13-4-2010 16:00 | 1 1 | 1 | 13-4-2010 14:00 | 13-4-2010 15:00 | 2 1 | 1 | 13-4-2010 13:00 | 13-4-2010 14:00 | 3 13 | 2 | 13-4-2010 15:00 | 13-4-2010 16:00 | 1 I want to avoid using cursors so I thought I would use a recursive CTE. Here is what I came up with: ;with CTE (PERSONKEY, ROOMKEY, CHECKIN, CHECKOUT, ROW) as (select RU.PERSONKEY, RU.ROOMKEY, RU.CHECKIN, RU.CHECKOUT, RU.ROW from ROOMUSAGE RU where RU.ROW = 1 union all select RU.PERSONKEY, RU.ROOMKEY, RU.CHECKIN, RU.CHECKOUT, RU.ROW from ROOMUSAGE RU inner join CTE on RU.ROWNUM = CTE.ROWNUM + 1 where CTE.CHECKIN = RU.CHECKOUT and CTE.PERSONKEY = RU.PERSONKEY and CTE.ROOMKEY = RU.ROOMKEY) This worked OK for very small datasets (under 100 records) but it's unusable on large datasets. I'm thinking that I should somehow apply the cte recursevely on each PERSONKEY, ROOMKEY grouping on my ROOMUSAGE table but I am not sure how to do that. Any help would be much appreciated, Cheers!

  • Symfony fk issue on insertion

    - by Daniel Hertz
Hi, I posted a similar problem but it could not be resolved. I create a relational database of users and groups but for some reason I cannot insert test data with fixtures properly. Here is a sample of the schema: User: actAs: { Timestampable: ~ } columns: name: { type: string(255), notnull: true } email: { type: string(255), notnull: true, unique: true } nickname: { type: string(255), unique: true } password: { type: string(300), notnull: true } image: { type: string(255) } Group: actAs: { Timestampable: ~ } columns: name: { type: string(500), notnull: true } image: { type: string(255) } type: { type: string(255), notnull: true } created_by_id: { type: integer } relations: User: { onDelete: SET NULL, class: User, local: created_by_id, foreign: id, foreignAlias: groups_created } FanOf: actAs: { Timestampable: ~ } columns: user_id: { type: integer, primary: true } group_id: { type: integer, primary: true } relations: User: { onDelete: CASCADE, local: user_id, foreign: id, foreignAlias: fanhood } Group: { onDelete: CASCADE, local: group_id, foreign: id, foreignAlias: fanhood } And this is the data i try to input: User: user1: name: Danny email: [email protected] nickname: danny password: f05050400c5e586fa6629ef497be Group: group1: name: Mets type: sports FanOf: fans1: user_id: user1 group_id: group1 I keep getting this error: SQLSTATE[23000]: Integrity constraint violation: 1452 Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails (`krowdd`.`fan_of`, CONSTRAINT `fan_of_user_id_user_id` FOREIGN KEY (`user_id`) REFERENCES `user` (`id`) ON DELETE CASCADE) The users and groups are clearly being created before the "fanhood" is so why am I getting this error?? Thanks!

  • Is it possible to "merge" the values of multiple records into a single field without using a stored

    - by j0rd4n
A co-worker posed this question to me, and I told them, "No, you'll need to write a sproc for that". But I thought I'd give them a chance and put this out to the community. Essentially, they have a table with keys mapping to multiple values. For a report, they want to aggregate on the key and "mash" all of the values into a single field. Here's a visual: --- ------- Key Value --- ------- 1 A 1 B 1 C 2 X 2 Y The result would be as follows: --- ------- Key Value --- ------- 1 A,B,C 2 X,Y They need this in SQLServer 2005. Again, I think they need to write a stored procedure, but if anyone knows a magic out-of-the-box function that does this, I'd be impressed.

  • PHP: Array of objects is empty when I come to retrieve one from the array

    - by Tom
Good morning, I am trying to load rows from a database and then create objects from them and add these objects to a private array. Here are my classes: <?php include("databaseconnect.php"); class stationItem { private $code = ''; private $description = ''; public function setCode($code ){ $this->code = $code; } public function getCode(){ return $this->code; } public function setDescription($description){ $this->description = $description; } public function getDescription(){ return $this->description; } } class stationList { private $stationListing; function __construct() { connect(); $stationListing = array(); $result = mysql_query('SELECT * FROM stations'); while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { $station = new stationItem(); $station->setCode($row['code']); $station->setDescription($row['description']); array_push($stationListing, $station); } mysql_free_result($result); } public function getStation($index){ return $stationListing[$index]; } } ?> As you can see I am creating a stationItem object per database row (which for now has a code and description) and I then push these on to the end of my array which is held as a private variable in stationList. This is code which creates this classes and attempts to access the properties on them: $stations = new stationList(); $station = $stations->getStation(0); echo $station->getCode(); I am finding that the sizeof($stationList) at the end of the constructor is 1 but then it is zero when we come to try to get an object from the array using the index. Therefore the error that I get is: Fatal error: Call to a member function getCode() on a non-object Please can someone explain to me why this is happening? I guess I am misunderstanding how object references work in PHP5.

  • Acquiring Table Lock in Database - Interview Question

    - by harigm
One of my interview Questions, if multiple users across the world are accessing the application, in which it uses a Table which has a Primary Key as Auto Increment Field. The Question how can you prevent the other user getting the Same Primary key when the other user is executing? My answer was I will obtain the Lock on the table and I will make the user to wait Until that user is released with the Primary key. But the Question How do you acquire the Table lock programmatically and implement this? If there are 1000 users coming every minute to the application, if you explicity hold the lock on the table, then the application will become slower? How do you manage this? Please suggest the possible answers for the above question

  • jQuery Datatables throws error when dynamically created row headers

    - by JM4
I am using the Datatables jquery plugin for one of my projects. For one in particular, the number of columns can vary based on how many children a consumer has (yes I realize normalization and proper technique would insert on another row but it is a client requirement). Datatables must be set up as such: <table> <thead> <tr> <th></th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr> <td></td> </tr> </tbody> </table> my script starts out as: <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" class="display" id="sortable"> <thead> <tr> <th>parent name</th> <th>parent phone</th> <?php try { $db->beginTransaction(); $stmt = $db->prepare("SELECT max(num_deps) FROM (SELECT count(a.id) as num_deps FROM children a INNER JOIN parents b USING(id) WHERE a.id !=0 GROUP BY a.id) x"); $stmt->execute(); $rows = $stmt->fetchAll(); for($i=1; $i<=$rows[0][0]; $i++) { echo " <th>Child Name ".$i."</th> <th>Date of Birth ".$i."</th> "; } $db->commit(); } catch (PDOException $e) { echo "<p align='center'>There was a system error. Please contact administration.<br>".$e->getMessage()."</p><br />"; } ?> </tr> </thead> In this manner, the final column headers can be 1 or 50 spots long. However, with this dynamic code in place, datatables throws the following error: ""DataTables warning (table id = 'datatable'): Cannot reinitialise DataTable. To retrieve the DataTables object for this table, please pass either no arguments to the dataTable() function, or set bRetrive to true. Alternativly, to destroy old table and create a new one...ETC."' Yes I have set "bRetrieve" : true in the javascript above and that does not do the trick. If I remove the code above, the file "works" fine but it leaves off the necessary columns for my table. Any ideas? • PHP Variable with Array

    - by Crays
Hi guys, i'm trying to make a "update user's power" page. It is something similar to those you can find in say, invisionfree forums. I need it to generate a list of members with checkbox [done] Add an option for it [done] What i don't know how to do is to update, to say, give all the selected users the selected power. Then i went searching for something and found most of them uses array to do this, but i never found one that actually explains how it works. The example i took (with my own modification) was this: while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo '<tr>'.$id[]=$rows['id'].''; echo '<td width="50px" align="center" class="TableFormCell"><input type="checkbox" name="option[]" /></td>'; echo '<td width="170px" align="center" class="TableFormCell">'.$row['uname'].'</td>'; echo '</tr>'; } I'm not sure what exactly $id[]=$rows['id'] does I know after the row, my option[] would become an array of option[1], option[2], option[3] for what power should be given, i've got no problem with that but on how to update the database i'm got no clue... for($i=0;$i<$count;$i++){ $sql1="UPDATE ninos SET power='$power' WHERE id='$option[$i]'"; $result1=mysql_query($sql1); } So Say i have 5 users, Aye, Bee, Cee, Dee, Eee with IDs of 1,2,3,4,5 how can i make it so that my script would run like $sql1="UPDATE ninos SET power = '$power' Where id='1','2','3','4','5'"; Please help, thanks.

  • Data sync solution?

    - by user321088
For some security issues I'm in an envorinment where third party apps can't access my DB. For this reason I should have some service/tool/script (dunno what yet... i'm open to the best option, still reading to see what I'm gonna do...) which enables me to generate on a regular basis(daily, weekly, monthly) some csv file with all new/modified records for a certain application. I should be able to automate this process and also export at any time a new file. So it should keep track for each application which records he still needs. Each application will need some data in some other format (csv/xls/sql), also some fields will be needed for some application and some aren't... It should be fairly flexible... What is the best option for me? Creating some custom tables for each application? Based on that extracting modified data?

  • One table, need multiple values from different rows/tuples

    - by WmasterJ
    I have tables like: 'profile_values' userID | fid | value -------+---------+------- 1 | 3 | [email protected] 1 | 45 | 203-234-2345 3 | 3 | [email protected] 1 | 45 | 123-456-7890 And: 'users' userID | name -------+------- 1 | joe 2 | jane 3 | jake I want to join them and have one row with two of the values like: 'profile_values' userID | name | email | phone -------+-------+----------------+-------------- 1 | joe | [email protected] | 203-234-2345 2 | jane | [email protected] | 123-456-7890 I have solved it but it feels clumsy and I want to know if there is a better way to do it. Meaning solutions that are either more readable or faster(optimized) or simply best-practice. Current solution: multiple tables selected, many conditional statements: SELECT u.userID AS memberid, u.name AS first_name, pv1.value AS fname, pv2.value as lname FROM users AS u, profile_values AS pv1, profile_values AS pv2, WHERE u.userID = pv1.userID AND pv1.fid = 3 AND u.userID = pv2.userID AND pv2.fid = 45; Thanks for the help!

  • Bus Timetable database design

    - by paddydub
hi, I'm trying to design a db to store the timetable for 300 different bus routes, Each route has a different number of stops and different times for Monday-Friday, Saturday and Sunday. • Reading a CSV with file_get_contents in PHP

    - by JPro
    I am reading a 'kind' of csv file and exploding it and storing it in array. The file I am reading has this structure Id,Log,Res,File mydb('Test1','log1','Pass','lo1.txt'). mydb('Test2','log2','Pass','lo2.txt'). mydb('Test3','log3','Pass','lo3.txt'). Now what I am trying to do is : reading the last record in my database, get the Name, lets say in this case 'Test1' and then I am searching through my file and where I can find the position of 'Test1' and get the next lines in the file, extract the ID,s and add it to database. I am getting the position of desired string in the file, but I am not sure how to get the next lines too. Here's my code so far. <?php mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("testing") or die(mysql_error()); $result = mysql_query("select ID from table_1 order by S_no DESC limit 1") or die(mysql_error()); $row = mysql_fetch_array( $result ); $a = $row['ID']; echo 'Present Top Row is '.$a.'<br>'; $addresses = explode("\n", file_get_contents('\\\\fil1\\logs\\tes.pl')); foreach($addresses as $val) { $pos = strstr($val, $a); if ($pos === false) { } else { echo "The string <br> '$a' <br>was found in the string <br>'$val' <br>"; echo " and exists at position <br>$pos<br>"; } }

  • SubSonic: MySqlDataReader closes connection.

    - by SchlaWiener
I am using SubSonic 2.1 and entcountered a problem while executing a Transaction with SharedDbConnectionScope and TransactionScope. The problem is that in the obj.Save() method I get an "The connection must be valid and open" exception I tracked down the problem to this line: // Loads a SubSonic ActiveRecord object User user = new User(User.Columns.Username, "John Doe"); in this Constructor of the User class a method "LoadParam" is called which eventually does if (rdr != null) rdr.Close(); It looks like the rdr.Close() implicitly closes my connection which is fine when using the AutomaticConnection. But during a transaction it is usally not a good idea to close the connection :-) My Question is if this is by design or if it's an error in the MySqlDataReader.

  • Simple CalendarStore query puts application into infinite loop!?

    - by Frank R.
Hi, I've been looking at adding iCal support to my new application and everything seemed just fine and worked on my Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard development machine without a hitch. Now it looks like depending on what is in your calendar the very simple query below: - (NSArray*) fetchCalendarEventsForNext50Minutes { NSLog(@"fetchCalendarEventsForNext50Minutes"); NSTimeInterval start = [NSDate timeIntervalSinceReferenceDate]; NSDate* startDate = [[NSDate alloc] init]; NSDate* endDate = [startDate addTimeInterval: 50.0 * 60.0]; NSPredicate *eventsForTheNext50Minutes = [CalCalendarStore eventPredicateWithStartDate:startDate endDate:endDate calendars:[[CalCalendarStore defaultCalendarStore] calendars]]; // Fetch all events for this year NSArray *events = [[CalCalendarStore defaultCalendarStore] eventsWithPredicate: eventsForTheNext50Minutes]; NSLog( @"fetch took: %f seconds", [NSDate timeIntervalSinceReferenceDate] - start ); return events; } produces a beachball thrash even with quite limited events in the calendar store. Am I missing something crucial here? The code snippet is pretty much exactly from the documentation at: // Create a predicate to fetch all events for this year NSInteger year = [[NSCalendarDate date] yearOfCommonEra]; NSDate *startDate = [[NSCalendarDate dateWithYear:year month:1 day:1 hour:0 minute:0 second:0 timeZone:nil] retain]; NSDate *endDate = [[NSCalendarDate dateWithYear:year month:12 day:31 hour:23 minute:59 second:59 timeZone:nil] retain]; NSPredicate *eventsForThisYear = [CalCalendarStore eventPredicateWithStartDate:startDate endDate:endDate calendars:[[CalCalendarStore defaultCalendarStore] calendars]]; // Fetch all events for this year NSArray *events = [[CalCalendarStore defaultCalendarStore] eventsWithPredicate:eventsForThisYear]; It looks like it has something to do with the recurrence rules, but as far as I can see there are no other ways of fetching events from the calendar store anyway. Has anybody else come across this? Best regards, Frank

  • How do I delete a foreign key in SQLAlchemy?

    - by Travis
I'm using SQLAlchemy Migrate to keep track of database changes and I'm running into an issue with removing a foreign key. I have two tables, t_new is a new table, and t_exists is an existing table. I need to add t_new, then add a foreign key to t_exists. Then I need to be able to reverse the operation (which is where I'm having trouble). t_new = sa.Table("new", meta.metadata, sa.Column("new_id", sa.types.Integer, primary_key=True) ) t_exists = sa.Table("exists", meta.metadata, sa.Column("exists_id", sa.types.Integer, primary_key=True), sa.Column( "new_id", sa.types.Integer, sa.ForeignKey("new.new_id", onupdate="CASCADE", ondelete="CASCADE"), nullable=False ) ) This works fine: t_new.create() t_exists.c.new_id.create() But this does not: t_exists.c.new_id.drop() t_new.drop() Trying to drop the foreign key column gives an error: 1025, "Error on rename of '.\my_db_name\#sql-1b0_2e6' to '.\my_db_name\exists' (errno: 150)" If I do this with raw SQL, i can remove the foreign key manually then remove the column, but I haven't been able to figure out how to remove the foreign key with SQLAlchemy? How can I remove the foreign key, and then the column?

  • Drupal db_query_range sql query

    - by hfidgen
    Hiya, I'm trying to get this working and the query executes but nothing comes back.. I've tried everything I can think of, can you spot what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance! $nido = $node->nid; $result = db_query_range(' SELECT i.nid, i.iid, a.fid, p.filename, p.filepath FROM {drup_image_attach} i LEFT JOIN {drup_image} a ON i.iid = a.nid LEFT JOIN {drup_files} p ON a.fid = p.fid WHERE i.nid = %d AND p.filename = "recipe_thumb"', $nido, 0, 10); echo "Filepath = " . $result ->filepath. "<br>"; echo "Filepath = " . $result ->filename . "<br>"; echo "IID = " . $result ->iid. "<br>"; echo "NID = " . $result ->nid . "<br>"; } EDIT - sorted out a couple of bits, but the output is still empty!

  • When *not* to use prepared statements?

    - by Ben Blank
I'm re-engineering a PHP-driven web site which uses a minimal database. The original version used "pseudo-prepared-statements" (PHP functions which did quoting and parameter replacement) to prevent injection attacks and to separate database logic from page logic. It seemed natural to replace these ad-hoc functions with an object which uses PDO and real prepared statements, but after doing my reading on them, I'm not so sure. PDO still seems like a great idea, but one of the primary selling points of prepared statements is being able to reuse them… which I never will. Here's my setup: The statements are all trivially simple. Most are in the form SELECT foo,bar FROM baz WHERE quux = ? ORDER BY bar LIMIT 1. The most complex statement in the lot is simply three such selects joined together with UNION ALLs. Each page hit executes at most one statement and executes it only once. I'm in a hosted environment and therefore leery of slamming their servers by doing any "stress tests" personally. Given that using prepared statements will, at minimum, double the number of database round-trips I'm making, am I better off avoiding them? Can I use PDO::MYSQL_ATTR_DIRECT_QUERY to avoid the overhead of multiple database trips while retaining the benefit of parametrization and injection defense? Or do the binary calls used by the prepared statement API perform well enough compared to executing non-prepared queries that I shouldn't worry about it? EDIT: Thanks for all the good advice, folks. This is one where I wish I could mark more than one answer as "accepted" — lots of different perspectives. Ultimately, though, I have to give rick his due… without his answer I would have blissfully gone off and done the completely Wrong Thing even after following everyone's advice. :-) Emulated prepared statements it is!
