  • Detemining a database's OS with a SQL query?

    - by KaizenSoze
I'm writing a tool to gather customer configuration information. One of the questions I want to answer, what OS is the customer database running on. I haven't found a generic way to find the OS with SQL and I can't create stored procedures on the customer's database. If there is a way, it's probably vendor specific. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  • How should I migrate DDL changes from one environment to the next?

    - by Rl
I make DDL changes using SQL Developer's GUI. Problem is, I need to apply those same changes to the test environment. I'm wondering how others handle this issue. Currently I'm having to manually write ALTER statements to bring the test environment into alignment with the development environment, but this is prone to error (doing the same thing twice). In cases where there's no important data in the test environment I usually just blow everything away, export the DDL scripts from dev and run them from scratch in test. I know there are triggers that can store each DDL change, but this is a heavily shared environment and I would like to avoid that if possible. Maybe I should just write the DDL stuff manually rather than using the GUI?

  • drop-down combo box-like functionality for queries.

    - by Frank Developer
Is it possible to provide the following type of fuctionality with informix client tools? As the user types the first two characters of a name, the drop-down list is empty. At the third character, the list fills with just the names beginning with those three characters. At the fourth character, MS-Access completes the first matching name (assuming the combo's AutoExpand is on). Once enough characters are typed to identify the customer, the user tabs to the next field. The time taken to load the combo between keystrokes is minimal. This occurs once only for each entry, unless the user backspaces through the first three characters again. If your list still contains too many records, you can reduce them by another order of magnitude by changing the value of constant conSuburbMin from 3 to 4.

  • Indexing XMLType columns

    - by Chris
    Hello, I am working with a XMLType and currently experiencing significant performance issues and would like to incorporate indexing to the column type. Currently I am taking the approach of using the XMLTable() and XQuery functions to create a virtual table. I would like to use this Virtual Table to create a function based index on the table containing the XMLType, but I am receiving this error: Error report: SQL Error: ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis 00907. 00000 - "missing right parenthesis" *Cause: *Action: This is the index.. any assistance would be greatly appreciated. CREATE INDEX indx_medicinalproduct ON d.ProductName XMLTable('for $i at $a in /safetyreport/patient//drug for $j in $i/medicinalproduct return element r { $i/medicinalproduct }' PASSING s.safetyreport COLUMNS ProductName varchar2(70) PATH 'medicinalproduct') d;

  • How do I insert data into a object relational table with multiple ref in the schema.

    - by Yiling
    I have a table with a schema of Table(number, ref, ref, varchar2, varchar2,...). How would I insert a row of data into this table? When I do: "insert into table values (1, select ref(p), ref(d), '239 F.3d 1343', '35 USC § 283', ... from plaintiff p, defendant d where p.name='name1' and d.name='name2');" I get a "missing expression" error. If I do: "insert into table 1, select ref(p), ref(d), ... from plaintiff p, defendant where p.name=...;" I get a "missing keyword VALUES" error.

  • Proxy Service Is Response Required

hi, I want to know what exactly is the functionality of isResponseRequired (MQ Transport)option in proxy and business service. My understanding was that a Proxy can read from a queue and business service can write to a queue. Is it possible for a Proxy to write the response to a queue?

  • How do I get every nth row in a table, or how do I break up a subset of a table into sets or rows of

    - by Jherico
I have a table of heterogeneous pieces of data identified by a primary key (ID) and a type identifier (TYPE_ID). I would like to be able to perform a query that returns me a set of ranges for a given type broken into even page sizes. For instance, if there are 10,000 records of type '1' and I specify a page size of 1000, I want 10 pairs of numbers back representing values I can use in a BETWEEN clause in subsequent queries to query the DB 1000 records at a time. My initial attempt was something like this select id, rownum from CONTENT_TABLE where type_id = ? and mod(rownum, ?) = 0 But this doesn't work.

  • Cannot disable index during PL/SQL procedure

    - by nw
I've written a PL/SQL procedure that would benefit if indexes were first disabled, then rebuilt upon completion. An existing thread suggests this approach: alter session set skip_unusable_indexes = true; alter index your_index unusable; [do import] alter index your_index rebuild; However, I get the following error on the first alter index statement: SQL Error: ORA-14048: a partition maintenance operation may not be combined with other operations ORA-06512: [...] 14048. 00000 - "a partition maintenance operation may not be combined with other operations" *Cause: ALTER TABLE or ALTER INDEX statement attempted to combine a partition maintenance operation (e.g. MOVE PARTITION) with some other operation (e.g. ADD PARTITION or PCTFREE which is illegal *Action: Ensure that a partition maintenance operation is the sole operation specified in ALTER TABLE or ALTER INDEX statement; operations other than those dealing with partitions, default attributes of partitioned tables/indices or specifying that a table be renamed (ALTER TABLE RENAME) may be combined at will The problem index is defined so: CREATE INDEX A11_IX1 ON STREETS ("SHAPE") INDEXTYPE IS "SDE"."ST_SPATIAL_INDEX" PARAMETERS ('ST_GRIDS=890,8010,72090 ST_SRID=2'); This is a custom index type from a 3rd-party vendor, and it causes chronic performance degradation during high-volume update/insert/delete operations. Any suggestions on how to work around this error? By the way, this error only occurs within a PL/SQL block.

  • Order of declaration in an anonymous pl/sql block

    - by RenderIn
    I have an anonymous pl/sql block with a procedure declared inside of it as well as a cursor. If I declare the procedure before the cursor it fails. Is there a requirement that cursors be declared prior to procedures? What other rules are there for order of declaration in a pl/sql block? This works: DECLARE cursor cur is select 1 from dual; procedure foo as begin null; end foo; BEGIN null; END; This fails with error PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "CURSOR" when expecting one of the following: begin function package pragma procedure form DECLARE procedure foo as begin null; end foo; cursor cur is select 1 from dual; BEGIN null; END;

  • multi-row update table with "different" data

    - by kralco626
I think the best way to explain this is to tell you what I have. I have two tables A and B both have columns Field1 and Field2. However Field 2 is not populated in table B I want to populate field 2 of table B with field 2 of table A where field 1 of table A matches field 1 of table B. something like update tableB set Field2 = tableA.field2 where tablea.field1 = tableb.field1. The reason this may seem so odd and obscure is that I'm tyring to do an inital data load form an old database to a new one. please let me know if you need clarification

  • Dynamically assembling SQL queries in Java

    - by kd
What is the best way to assemble an SQL query with join conditions dynamically? I don't want to hard code the query for each different condition on a webpage or a set of webpages. Is it even feasible? I got as far as being able to assemble simple queries but i got stumped when i needed to insert join conditions, i.e. how to figure out dependencies for joins etc.

  • Performing Inner Join for Multiple Columns in the Same Table

    - by frankiefrank
    I have a scenario which I'm a bit stuck on. Let's say I have a survey about colors, and I have one table for the color data, and another for people's answers. tbColors color_code , color_name 1 , 'blue' 2 , 'green' 3 , 'yellow' 4 , 'red' tbAnswers answer_id , favorite_color , least_favorite_color , color_im_allergic_to 1 , 1 , 2 3 2 , 3 , 1 4 3 , 1 , 1 2 4 , 2 , 3 4 For display I want to write a SELECT that presents the answers table but using the color_name column from tbColors. I understand the "most stupid" way to do it naming tbColors three times in the FROM section, using a different alias for each column to replace. How would a non-stupid way look?

  • Creating a procedure with PLSQL

    - by user1857460
I am trying to write a PLSQL function that implements a constraint that an employee cannot be both a driver and a mechanic at the same time, in other words, the same E# from TRKEMPLOYEE cannot be in TRKDRIVER and TRKMECHANIC at the same time. The abovementioned tables are something like as follows: TRKEMPLOYEE(E# NUMBER(12) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT TRKEMPLOYEE_PKEY PRIMARY KEY(E#)) TRKDRIVER(E# NUMBER(12) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT TRKDRIVER_PKEY PRIMARY KEY(E#), CONSTRAINT TRKDRIVER_FKEY FOREIGN KEY(E#) REFERENCES TRKEMPLOYEE(E#)) TRKMECHANIC(E# NUMBER(12) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT TRKMECHANIC_PKEY PRIMARY KEY(E#), CONSTRAINT TRKMECHANIC_FKEY FOREIGN KEY(E#) REFERENCES TRKEMPLOYEE(E#)) I have attempted to write a function but keep getting a compile error in line 1 column 7. Can someone tell me why my code doesn't work? My code is as follows CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION Verify() IS DECLARE E# TRKEMPLOYEE.E#%TYPE; CURSOR C1 IS SELECT E# FROM TRKEMPLOYEE; BEGIN OPEN C1; LOOP FETCH C1 INTO EMPNUM; IF(EMPNUM IN(SELECT E# FROM TRKMECHANIC )AND EMPNUM IN(SELECT E# FROM TRKDRIVER)) SELECT E#, NAME FROM TRKEMPLOYEE WHERE E#=EMPNUM; ELSE dbms_output.put_line(“OK”); ENDIF EXIT WHEN C1%NOTFOUND; END LOOP; CLOSE C1; END; / Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Help in setting the setClientInfo with JPA

    - by enrique
i am trying to set to jpa the new JDBC method which allows the application to be identified with a name it is the setClientInfo() and i could do it using pure JDBC using the lines Properties jdbcProperties = new Properties(); jdbcProperties.put("user", "system"); jdbcProperties.put("password", "sw01"); jdbcProperties.put("v$session.program", "Clients"); Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection(url, jdbcProperties); However i have new requirements and i need to make it with JPA EclipseLink i have been googling and could not find something substantial on how to set this property out in JPA i guess it is by annotating something but i do not know what, i was trying to setting the persistence unit by putting the following in the persistence unit: <properties> <property name="toplink.ddl-generation" value="create-tables"/> <property name="v$session.program" value="Clients"/> </properties> but no lucky ...does somebody know how to do it or any idea...? thanks in advanced.-

  • sql data source re binding question

    - by Keith
In my gridview after an insert operation has been done I am filtering the sqldatasource by ID. I am getting an error that the item drop down box selected value is not in the list. To test my theory I created a new sql data source with only the select statement and after the insert operation I am binding it to my grid view and filtering by Id and I get my result. The question Having a second data source is not the solution so is it possible that there is some way to use sqldatasource1? what I tried is sqldatasource.databind() and gridview.databind() on the inserted and inserting metheds in many test cases but still that doesnt work. I dont have any filters applied on the original data source?

  • PL/SQL 'select in' from a list of values whose type are different from the outer query

    - by Attilah
I have the following tables : Table1 ( Col1 : varchar2, Col2 : number, Col3 : number) Table2 ( Col1 : number, Col2 : varchar2, Col3 : varchar2) I want to run a query like this : select distinct Col2 from Table1 where Col1 in ( select Col1 from Table2 ) Table1.Col1 is of type varchar2 while Table2.Col1 is of type number. so, I need to do some casting, it seems but it fails to succeed. The problem is that any attempts to run the query returns the following error : ORA-01722: invalid number 01722. 00000 - "invalid number" *Cause: *Action: Table1.Col1 contains some null values.

  • Sum of distinc rows after a 1-many table join

    - by Lock
I have 2 tables that I am joining. Table 1 has 1-many relationship with table 2. That is, table 2 can return multiple rows for a single row of table 1. Because of this, the records of table 1 is duplicated for as many rows as are on table 2.. which is expected. Now, I have a sum on one of the columns from table 1, but because of the multiple rows that get returned on the join, the sum is obviously multiplying. Is there a way to get this number back to its original number? I tried dividing by the count of rows from table 2 but this didnt quite give me the expected result. Are there any analytical functions that could do this? I almost want something like "if this row has not yet been counted in the sum, add it to the sum"

  • Can I lock rows in a cursor if the cursor only returns a single count(*) row?

    - by RenderIn
I would like to restrict users from inserting more than 3 records with color = 'Red' in my FOO table. My intentions are to A) retrieve the current count so that I can determine whether another record is allowed and B) prevent any other processes from inserting any Red records while this one is in process, hence the for update of. I'd like to do something like: cursor cur_cnt is select count(*) cnt from foo where foo.color = 'Red' for update of foo.id; Will this satisfy both my requirements or will it not lock only the rows in the count(*) who had foo.color = 'Red'?
