• UIImageView is resizing

  I have an issue with uiimageviews resizing at run time. On one view I have more than a dozen uiimageviews contained within a uiscrollview. The images are assigned at design time. The uiimageview's are all the same size. The mode is set to Aspect Fill for all uiimageviews. At run time the images appear correctly in the view. On a second view I have only 9 uiimageviews. These uiimageviews will display up to nine of the images selected from the first view. There are three images across and three images down. The uiimageview at design time is the same size as on the first view. The uiimageview image is assigned an image that is loaded into an array. All the uiimageviews are sized the same and they also have the mode set to Aspect Fill. The images are assigned at run time using image1.image = xxx. Where xxx is an image stored in an array. However, on this second view, the images are not all the same size. The height of the image changes dynamically. The same image displayed in a different uiimageview on the view will be different sizes. It is the height of the uiimageview that changes. In some cases the image will fill the uiimageview differently. It is like the mode changes dynamically. I've tried using different modes and nothing changes. Any ideas on what is happening?

• Change with jQuery a cell of a table created with JSF

  From within a xhtml page created with JSF, I need to use JavaScript / jQuery for changing the content of a cell of a table. I know how to assign a unique id to the div containing the table, and to the tbody. I can also assign unique class names to the div itself and to the target column.   I need to insert a [number of] uiBinder-based widgets into another one, at a particular spot. The inserted widget has a somewhat complicated layout, so I am trying to define it in HTML. referencePanel.add(...) fails with NoSuchElement exception. reference.getElement().toSource returns "undefined". • Add webservice reference, the classes in different file

  Hi, When I add webservice as service reference in my .Net project, it creates a service folder within "Service References". All the interfaces and classes are contained within that service folder. I wanted to know how to split the interface's method and classes. Actually I wanted the web service reference to import classes defined in different dll. I wanted to define this way because of my design constraints. I've 3 layered application. Of which third layer is communication layer which holds all web service references. second is business layer and first is presentation layer. If the class declarations are in layer-3 and I'm accessing those classes from presentation layer, it is logically a cross-layer-access-violation. Instead, I wanted a separate project which holds only the class declarations and this would be used in all 3 layers. I didn't faced any problems to achieve this with layer-1 and layer-2. But, I'm not sure how to make communication layer to use this common declaration dll. Your suggestion would help me to design my application better. Thanks in advance Regards ArunDhaJ

  Hello, The other day i just accidently visited the site myheritage.com. I was just wondering, how they must have created one? Can anybody tell me what can be their database design? and if possible, algorithm that we can use to generate such a tree? Generating simple binary tree is very easy using recursion. But if you have a look at the site(if you have time please make account on it and add few nodes to feel) when we add son to a father, it's mother is automatically added(if you don't add explicitly). Mother's family tree is also generated side by side and many such fancy things are happening. In a simple binary tree we have a root node and then many nodes below it. Thus we cannot show wife and husband in the tree and then show a line from wife and husband to child. In spare time, can anybody discuss what can be it's database design and the recursive algorithm that we can follow to generate it? I hope i am not asking too much from you :).

• From where to send mails in a MVC framework, so that there is no duplication of code?

  It's a MVC question. Here is the situation: I am writing an application where I have "groups". You can invite other persons to your groups by typing their email and clicking "invite". There are two ways this functionality can be called: a) web interface and b) API After the mail sending is over I want to report to the user which mails were sent successfully (i.e., if the SMTP send succeeded. Currently, I am not interested in reporting mail bounces). So, I am thinking how should I design so that there is no code duplication. That is, API and web-interface should share the bulk of the code. To do this, I can create the method "invite" inside the model "group". So, the API and and the Web-interface can just call: group-invite($emailList); This method can send the emails. But the, problem is, then I have to access the mail templates, create the views for the mails, and then send the mails. Which should actually be in the "View" part or at least in the "Controller" part. What is the most elegant design in this situation? Note: I am really thinking to write this in the Model. My only doubt is: previously I thought sending mails also as "presentation". Since it is may be considered as a different form of generating output.

  I paid somebody to build me a jQuery AJAX suggestion box script a while back. It works great. Now I'm trying to learn about it enough to modify it to do something different. Right now, the script that generates the suggestions just takes the query text and does the same check every time. Now, I want to be able to pass along additional info so different things are looked for with each instance of a search box. • Is there a tool for managing redundant pages across a website?

  I am in charge of constructing a website with a '2-dimensional' site map, as explained later. I am looking for (preferably a Wordpress plugin, as the site is built in Wordpress already) that would make managing thousands of pages a lot easier. To explain further, let me iterate my situation. I am building a website for a construction company, and they have several key cities and several key services. Now, they want a parent page for each service, and another unique page for the child sub-service, and finaly, a grandchild page for the city they are performing the service in. For example, if they were doing Concrete Construction in Los Angeles, the URL would look like: /concrete/construction/los-angeles The content on /los-angeles would be the same as on /malibu, or /burbank. However, there would be a different set of content for /concrete/design/los-angeles, but the entire page content (sans a few variables with city names) would be the same. Is there a way to manage or automate 'matrixing' this information on the site? I am looking for a tool that would allow me to easily add a 'city' with the same content across all grandchildren, per the child's content requirements. All of the grandchildren pages will have redundant content across them. Should something like this not exist, how difficult would it be to create, as a freelance side project? I need a tool like this, because I am approaching about ~500 cities and 50 services (Concrete Construction, Concrete Design, Concrete Engineering, etc)

• Why thread in background is not waiting for task to complete?

  I am playing with async await feature of C#. Things work as expected when I use it with UI thread. But when I use it in a non-UI thread it doesn't work as expected. Instead it instantly executes the BgOnRunWorkerCompleted after calling Method. Why is that so? What am I missing here? P.S: I am not interested in alternate ways or correct ways of doing this. I want to know what is actually happening behind the scene in this case? Why is it not waiting?

But I thought it would be great if we could get clear list of not only what code smells there are, but also how to correct them. • C# custom control to get internal text as string

  ok, I'm working on a custom control that can contain some javascript, and read this out of the page into a string field. This is a workaround for dynamic javascript inside an updatepanel. At the moment, I've got it working, but if I try to put a server tag inside the block: <custom:control ID="Custom" runat="server"> <%= ControlName.ClientID %> </custom:control> The compiler does not like it. I know these are generated at runtime, and so might not be compatible with what I'm doing, but does anyone have any idea how I can get that working? • Personalized UIView created with Interface Builder

  I need to project a personalized UIView with a UIImageView and 3 UILabel. I need to allocate more of this view because I want put it into a UIScrollView. I would avoid to generate the view programatically because it's difficult and boring design it. My idea is to create a new class that extends UIView and design it with interface builder. Note that I don't want create a specific ViewController for this view and PersonalizedView is instantiate at runtime not when the app runs, moreover I don't know how many PersonalizedView I will instantiate, it depends on runtime execution. • Code smells galore. Can this be a good company?

  I am currently doing some contract work for a company. Now they want to hire me for real. I have been reading on SO about code smells lately. The thing is, I have worked with some of their code and it smells. Badly. They use incredibly old versions of MSVC (2003), they do not seem to use version control systems, most code is completely undocumented, variable names with more than three letters are a rarity, there is commented out code all over the place, some methods take huge amounts of arguments, UI design is seemingly done by blind people... Yet they seem to be quite successful with what they do and their actual algorithms seem to be pretty sound and rather sophisticated. Since they mostly do DSP stuff, I am willing to ignore the UI side of things, but really these code smells are worrying. What would you think of a company that doesn't seem to value readable code? The people are nice enough and payment would be good. How much would you value code smells in this context? You see, this is my first job and SO got me worried, so I turn to you for suggestions ;-)

I have a class library project containing a class AppConfig; this class is consumed by a Webforms project. • Is it possible to definitively identify whether a DML command was issued from a stored procedure?

  I have inherited a SQL Server 2008 database to which calling applications have access through stored procedures. Each table in the database has a shadow audit table into which Insert/Update/Delete operations for are logged. Performance testing on populating the audit tables showed that inserting the audit records using OUTPUT clauses was 20% or so faster than using triggers, so this has been implemented in the stored procedures. However, because this design cannot track changes made directly to the tables through DML statements issued directly against the tables, triggers have also been implemented which use the value of @@NESTLEVEL to determine whether or not to run the trigger (the assumption being that all DML run through stored procedures will have @@NESTLEVEL 1). i.e. the body of the trigger code looks something like: IF @@NESTLEVEL = 1 -- implies call is direct sql so generate history from here BEGIN ... insert into audit table This design is flawed because it won't track updates where DML statements are executed in dynamic SQL, or any other context where @@NESTLEVEL is raised above 1. Can anyone suggest a completely reliable method we can use in the triggers to execute them only if not triggered by a stored procedure? Or is this (as I suspect) not possible?

• Stop scrolling to ID when opening jQuery Modal via URL

  I need to be able to open an ID'd jQuery UI Modal on a page when that modal's ID is passed in the page's URL. For example: http://mysite.com/visit.html#directions #directions is an ID'd DIV at the very bottom of the page, right before the closing BODY element. It's instantiated as a jQuery UI dialog on page load, then I'm running a function to check the current URL for the modal's ID. If the URL contains the modal's ID, the modal is opened. Here's what my auto-open function looks like: function autoOpenModal() { if ( document.location.href.indexOf('#') ) { var uriParts = document.location.href.split('#'); var hashID = '#' + uriParts[1]; if ( $(hashID) && $(hashID).hasClass('dialog')) { $(hashID).dialog('open'); } } } The problem I'm having is that the browser is automatically scrolling down to the ID at the very bottom of the page before the modal is opened. So when the user closes the modal they're at the bottom of the page (which seems "broken" to me). Can anyone tell me how I stop the browser from auto-scrolling down to the ID please? I've had a look at event.preventDefault() but without success; I'm not sure where or how to use it in the event chain.

Interface A is shared by multiple objects. But the implementation of A is dependent on the template argument. Interface B is the seen by the outside world, and needs to be abstrakt. The reason I would like this is that it would allow me to define object C like this: Define the interface C inheriting from abstrakt A. Define the implementation of C using a different datatype for template A. I hope I'm clear. Is there any way to do this, or do I need to rethink my design?

  Hello, I am using http://loungerepo.codeplex.com/ this library needs a unique id when I persist my entities to the repository. I decided for integer not Guid. The question is now where do I retrieve a new integer and how do I do it? Do you have any better ideas? What I do not like about my current apporach: -Having a private method in repositry class because a repositry is to fetch data only not "entity logic" like the counter - Having to access from the ViewModel a public property - located in the repository -, actually its not the ViewModel concern to get a entity id and assign it. Actually the ViewModel should ask for a schoolclass POCO and get a SchoolclassModel to bind to the UI. But then I have again to re-read the Schoolclass properties into the SchoolclassModel properties what I want to avoid.

Instead, it just display a simple EditText text box. I wonder what is going wrong. Is it because I put a layout inside another layout? I don't think there is any problem with that right?

• Javascript AJAX function not working properly

  I have a function that sends a GET request to a php script and checks if the script returned any output. It works great, but when I try to add another function that checks for something similar, both of them fail. • IndexOutofRangeException while using WriteLine in nested Parallel.For loops

  I am trying to write kinect depth data to a text file using nested Parallel.For loops with the following code. However, it gives IndexOutofRangeException. The code works perfect if using simple for loops but it hangs the UI since the depth format is set to 640x480 causing the loops to write 307200 lines in the text file at 30fps. Therefore, I switched to Parallel. For scheme. If I omit the writeLine command from the nested loops, the code works fine, which indicates that the IndexOutofRangeException is arising at the writeline command. I do not know how to troubleshoot this. Please advise. Any better workarounds to avoid UI freezing? I can create the folder by hand, but when i try to create the file, I get the similar "Access Denied" exception.

• PHP Function needed for GENERIC sorting of a recordset array

  Somebody must have come up with a solution for this by now. I wrote a PHP class to display a recordset as an HTML table/datagrid, and I wish to expand it so that we can sort the datagrid by whichever column the user selects. In the below example data, we may need to sort the recordset array by Name, Shirt, Assign, or Age fields. I will take care of the display part, I just need help with sorting the data array. As usual, I query a database to get a result, iterate throught he result, and put the records into an assciateiave array. So, we end up with an array of arrays. (See below.) I need to be able to sort by any column in the dataset. However, I will not know the column names at design time, nor will I know if the colums will be string or numeric values. I have seen a ton of solutions to this, but I have not seen a GOOD and GENERIC solution Can somebody please suggest a way that I can sort the recordset array that is GENERIC, and will work on any recordset? Again, I will not know the fields names or datatypes at design time. The array presented below is ONLY an example.
