• Error while installing dependencies for PyGTK on Mac OS 10.6.3

  I tried to install the following dependencies for PyGTK 2.16.0 (the Python GIMP Tool Kit) on Mac OS 10.6.3: glib 2.25.5 gettext-0.18 libiconv-1.13.1 When I tried to install glib, I got the following error message: gconvert.c:55:2: error: #error GNU libiconv not in use but included iconv.h is from libiconv The libiconv web page talks about a circular dependency between gettext and libiconv---build one, then build the other, then build the first again. I tried to do this, though possibly incorrectly. (Will the following work: make distclean; ./configure; make; sudo make install?) The author of a posting had the same problem, and he solved it by installing libiconv-1.13.1. Could anyone explain the error in more detail, and how to correct it?

  I'm trying to start a VM on a new Hyper-V installation and I'm receiving the following error: The virtual machine could not be started because the hypervisor is not running. The following actions may help you resolve the problem: 1) Verify that the processor of the physical computer has a supported version of hardware-assisted virtualization. 2) Verify that hardware-assisted virtualization and hardware-assisted data execution protection are enabled in the BIOS of the physical computer. (If you edit the BIOS to enable either setting, you must turn off the power to the physical computer and then turn it back on. Resetting the physical computer is not sufficient.) 3) If you have made changes to the Boot Configuration Data store, review these changes to ensure that the hypervisor is configured to launch automatically. My machine supports virtualization at the hardware level and it is enabled in BIOS. Why am I receiving this error?

• Remote desktop session ends abruptly with a "protocol error"

  Intermittently we get a problem where a remote desktop session will get disconnected with the error message “Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again.” We are getting this with one server only which is running Windows Server 2008, connecting with Windows 7 clients. The session itself stays running, you just get disconnected, and you can try and reconnect. Sometimes you get in for a while then it will kick you out. We are connecting from Windows 7 clients. We have tried connecting using Cord on a Mac and this works fine, so it's not like the session itself is corrupted. One problem is that there are some critical applications running under the session (I know, let's not discuss the idiocy of that), so we cannot reset the session in any way during the working day – so any diagnostics must have minimum impact.   Wow, makes your head spin! I am about to start a project, and although my mySql is OK, I can't get my head around what required for this: I have a table of web addresses. id,url 1,http://www.url1.com 2,http://www.url2.com 3,http://www.url3.com 4,http://www.url4.com I have a table of users. id,name 1,fred bloggs 2,john bloggs 3,amy bloggs I have a table of categories. id,name 1,science 2,tech 3,adult 4,stackoverflow I have a table of categories the user likes as numerical ref relating to the category unique ref. For example: user,category 1,4 1,6 1,7 1,10 2,3 2,4 3,5 . . . I have a table of scores relating to each website address. When a user visits one of these sites and says they like it, it's stored like so: url_ref,category 4,2 4,3 4,6 4,2 4,3 5,2 5,3 . . . So based on the above data, URL 4 would score (in it's own right) as follows: 2=2 3=2 6=1 What I was hoping to do was pick out a random URL from over 2,000,000 records based on the current users interests. So if the logged in user likes categories 1,2,3 then I would like to ORDER BY a score generated based on their interest. If the logged in user likes categories 2 3 and 6 then the total score would be 5. However, if the current logged in user only like categories 2 and 6, the URL score would be 3. So the order by would be in context of the logged in users interests. Think of stumbleupon. I was thinking of using a set of VIEWS to help with sub queries. I'm guessing that all 2,000,000 records will need to be looked at and based on the id of the url it will look to see what scores it has based on each selected category of the current user. So we need to know the user ID and this gets passed into the query as a constant from the start. Ain't got a clue! Chris Denman

• Carbonite Restore Error after Windows Update

  I recently installed Windows 8 on my main machine, and I'm have an issue with Carbonite. I can't restore any files from my previous OS, only files that where backed up from the current OS. I can download them from the web service, but I can't restore them with the client. The error says "You don't have the necessary security permissions to restore this file." (The file on top was backed up from the new install, while the one on bottom was from the old install.) I'm also having another issue, where Carbonite doesn't think it's running in admin mode. I think it's probably related to this error. When I right click to restore a file, I can't choose a location to restore to. I contacted Carbonite, and they said it's a known issue that apparently happens when upgrade from XP to 7, but they wouldn't help me since I'm running a beta OS. Hopefully one of you fine folks will have an idea.

• Getting 0x80070043 error when accessing Samba share from Windows 7

  I created a Samba share on my new Ubuntu 10.04 machine. When I try to access it from a Windows 7 client, I get network error 0x80070043 (The network path not found). However, I get this error when I click on the share in the Windows Explorer, so it seems that Windows does find the path. I already enabled NTLMv1, disabled 128bit security and made sure that NetBIOS is running. I briefly disabled the Windows firewall, it didn't make a difference. What could be the problem?

  I can run my Asp.Net MVC 2 application without an issue on my local computer. Just Run / Debug. But if I have already built it, I can't publish it! I have to clean the solution and publish it again. I know this is not system critical, but it's really annoying. "One Click Publish" is not "Clean solution and then One click publish" The exact error is as follows: Error 11 It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. I suspect it's something to do with the Web.Config in the Views folder, but then why only after I build once previously. And just to note, the app works fine once published.

  I am getting the following error when referencing the assembly Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word in my asp.net application. The type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass' exists in both 'C:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word\11.0.0.0_71e9bce111e9429c\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.dll' and 'C:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word\12.0.0.0_71e9bce111e9429c\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.dll' Previously, I was getting the error but the 12.0.0.0 was in the PIA directory under Visual Studio, but the error message was the same, except pointing to a different path. Since then, I copied the dll to the GAC, but with the same error. I thought that .Net was supposed to take care of this. Can anyone give me some help? Thanks BTW, I am doing this using Visual Studio .Net 2008

  I'm trying to find a parental control for Ubuntu that turns adult site words into *. I have tried webcontentcontrol (doesn't even ask me to set a password), mobicip (doesn't even get listed in package names). My family can see my adult bookmark names and that's really embarrassing. I tried sudo apt-get remove webcontentcontrol sudo apt-get -f install sudo apt-get upgrade sudo pkill webcontentcontrol sudo apt-get remove webcontentcontrol but still can't uninstall it. Googling for that error message resulted in a solution that is first said dangerous, later said wrong. After sudo apt-get remove webcontentcontrol, I always get the error message "Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)". What should I do? The full error message is in brazilian portuguese. Should I post it anyway? I have just installed nanny, but while webcontentcontrol is installed, it doesn't load.

My exact requirement was to prompt Open/Save/Color/Print/Font dialog boxes.Ive written code for prompting Save file dialog box. Also I've added a license file using LPK Tool onto my webpage.   I'm the one-man dev team on a fledgling military history website. One aspect of the site is a catalog of ~1,200 individual battles, including the nations & formations (regiments, divisions, etc) which took part. The formation information (as well as the other battle info) was manually imported from a series of books by a 10-man volunteer team. The formations were listed in groups with varying formatting and abbreviation patterns. At the time I set up the data collection forms I couldn't think of a good way to process that data... and elected to store it all as strings in the MySQL database and sort it out later. Well, "later" - as it tends to happen - has arrived. :-) Each battle has 2+ records in the database - one for each nation that participated. Each record has a formations text string listing the formations present as the volunteer chose to add them. Some real examples: 39th Grenadier Rgmt, 26th Volksgrenadier Division 2nd Luftwaffe Field Division, 246th Infantry Division 247th Rifle Division, 255th Tank Brigade 2nd Luftwaffe Field Division, SS Cavalry Division 28th Tank Brigade, 158th Rifle Division, 135th Rifle Division, 81st Tank Brigade, 242nd Tank Brigade 78th Infantry Division 3rd Kure Special Naval Landing Force, Tulagi Seaplane Base personnel 1st Battalion 505th Infantry Regiment The ultimate goal is for each individual force to have an ID, so that its participation can be traced throughout the battle database. Formation hierarchy, such as the final item above 1st Battalion (of the) 505th Infantry Regiment also needs to be preserved. In that case, 1st Battalion and 505th Infantry Regiment would be split, but 1st Battalion would be flagged as belonging to the 505th. In database terms, I think I want to pull the formation field out of the current battle info table and create three new tables: FORMATION [id] [name] FORMATION_HIERARCHY [id] [parent] [child] FORMATION_BATTLE [f_id] [battle_id] It's simple to explain, but complicated to enact. What I'm looking for from the SO community is just some tips on how best to tackle this problem. Ideally there's some sort of method to solving this that I'm not aware of. However, as a last resort, I could always code a classification framework and call my volunteers back to sort through 2,500+ records...

  Hi All, I had some fairly simple code in my app to invoke Edit Contact activity on a known good contact index that worked in Android 1.6 but is broken for me now in Android 2.1 on the Droid. • Sql server 2000 replication error

  Good morning, I have a sql server 2000 machine, with SP4. I have a transactional replication. A keep receving this error message: The process could not execute 'sp_replcmds' on 'servername' the logreader stops responding.When i click start it starts fine, and the replication starts fine.And then, works for hours, and the problem comes back. In the begining i though it could be timeouts, but i already set a couple of parameters in the logreader profile,like querytimeout/readbatchsize. Sometimes when the logreader stops,it generates a dump, but not always. In event viewer, it appears this message: 17066 : SQL Server Assertion: File: , line=1985 Failed Assertion = 'startLSN = m_curLSN'. 18052 : Error: 3624, Severity: 20, State: 1. 17066 : SQL Server Assertion: File: , line=2223 Failed Assertion = 'm_noOfScAlloc == 0'. I also executed checkdb in the databases, and they are fine. have you every experienced something similar? thanks in advance, Renato Alves.

  Basically I've got the below schema and I'm inserting records if they don't exists. However when it comes to inserting a duplicate it throws and error as I would expect. My question is whether there is an easy way to make Hibernate to just ignore inserts which would in effect insert duplicates?
