  • How to index and search .doc files

    - by Jared
I have an application that needs to have .doc files uploaded to it. These documents should then be index and the whole collection of documents should be searchable. This will run on a Windows Server, without Word installed, using IIS and SqlServer, but I'd rather not be tied to SqlServer's full text indexing. I was thinking of using Lucene.Net for the indexing part and was wondering what the best way to get the text out of the .doc files would be. I could probably extract the text by reading in the whole stream and then using a regEx to pull out any regular characters, but that seems hefty and prone to error. I saw an article on using iFilters that sounds promising, but I thought I'd put this out there since it's not something I'm familiar with. P.S. If it matters, these .doc files will have mail-merge fields in them and there's no other current alternative for the .doc format.

  • Extending / changing how Zend_Search_Lucene searches

    - by Grant Collins
Hi, I am currently using Zend_Search_Lucene to index and search a number of documents currently at around a 1000 or so. What I would like to do is change how the engine scores hits on a document, from the current default. Zend_Search_Lucene scores on the frequency of number of hits within a document, so a document that has 10 matches of the word PHP will score higher than a document with only 3 matches of PHP. What I am trying to do is pass a number of key words and score depending on the hits of those keywords. e.g. I pass 5 key words say,PHP, MySQL, Javascript, HTML and CSS that I search against the index. One document has 3 matches to those key words and one document has all 4 matches, the 4 matches scores the highest. The number of instances of those words in the document do not concern me. Now I've had a quick look at Zend_Search_Lucene_Search_Similarity however I have to confess that I am not sure (or that bright) to know how to use this to achieve what I am after. Is what I want to do possible using Lucene or is there a better solution out there?

  • Flash Displaying Weird Text in a Dynamic Text Field

    - by Andrew M
I am working in Flash CS5 and I have placed a text field (dynamic, classic text) on the stage. I am accessing it through Actionscript on the same frame like this: var ct:TextField = TextField(getChildByName("Temperature")); ct.text = "Hello world"; What ACTUALLY appears is this: eo wor So... The H, Ls, and D are gone. Mysteriously. Without warning. I am sitting here utterly confused. Is this just me? PS. The text field is set to Myriad Pro Bold, a font on my computer, so it isn't like it's a font problem.

    - by haribo83
    Hi I have found the following code to create a search on my site - this works really well the only problem is in Internet Explorer the search doesn't work when you press the return key. Does anybody have any ideas? The search code is below - if anything else is needed please let me know. $(function() { $(".search_button").click(function() { var search_word = $("#search_box").val(); var dataString = 'search_word='+ search_word; if(search_word=='') { } else { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "searchdata.php", data: dataString, cache: false, beforeSend: function(html) { document.getElementById("insert_search").innerHTML = ''; $("#flash").show(); $("#searchword").show(); $(".searchword").html(search_word); $("#flash").html('<img src="ajax-loader.gif" /> Loading Results...'); }, success: function(html){ $("#insert_search").show(); $("#insert_search").append(html); $("#flash").hide(); } }); } return false; }); });

  • capture text, including tags from string, and then reorder tags with text

    - by Brian
I have the following text: abcdef<CONVERSION>abcabcabcabc<2007-01-12><name1><2007-01-12>abcabcabcabc<name2><2007-01-11>abcabcabcabc<name3><2007-02-12>abcabcabcabc<name4>abcabcabcabc<2007-03-12><name5><date>abcabcabcabc<name6> I need to use regular expressions in order to clean the above text: The basic extraction rule is: <2007-01-12>abcabcabcabc<name2> I have no problem extracting this pattern. My issue is that within th text I have malformed sequences: If the text doesn't start with a date, and end with a name my extraction fails. For example, the text above may have several mal formed sequences, such as: abcabcabcabc<2007-01-12><name1> Should be: <2007-01-12>abcabcabcabc<name1> Is it possible to have a regular expression that would clean the above, prior to extracting my consistent pattern. In short, i need to find all mal formed patterns, and then take the date tag and put it in front of it, as provided in the example above. Thanks.

  • jQuery way to replace just a text node with a mix of HTML and text

    - by hippietrail
In my web browser userscript project I need to replace just one text node without affecting the other HTML elements under the same parent node as the text. And I need to replace it with more than one node: <div id="target"> some text<img src="/image.png"> </div> Needs to become: <div id="target"> <a href="#">mixed</a> text <a href="#">and</a> HTML<img src="/image.png"> </div> I know jQuery doesn't have a whole lot of support for text nodes. I know I could use direct DOM calls instead of jQuery. And I know I could just do something like $('#target').html(my new stuff + stuff I don't want to change). What I'd like to ask the experts here is, Is there a most idiomatic jQuery way to do this?

  • how to do reverse fulltext search in MySQL?

    - by Shore
By default it's like this: select * from main_table where match(col1,col2) against('search_item'); but what I want to fetch is the reverse, say,I've restored all the search_item(1000 records, for example), and I want to see which of them matches a specified row in main_table. Is that doable?

  • How to, set-justification-full per line in emacs without messing up on return?

    - by inaki
Hi, I have two problems in emacs. First. How do I set-justification-full for the whole document? I can do M-X set-justification-full for a region successfully, but I would like to make it work in the whole document. Second. How do I manage not to get lines jumping from one place to another when I have done set-justification-full, and press enter? That is, say I have the following paragraph: %%if normalized beforehand then the rule would be, %%\begin{gather} %%(\hat{y}_{i}^{'} \times \hat{y}_{i+1}^{'}) \cdot \hat{z}_{mst} = 1, \quad then \ \Omega 1\\ %%(\hat{y}_{i}^{'} \times \hat{y}_{i+1}^{'}) \cdot \hat{z}_{mst} = %%-1,\quad then \ \Omega When I do set-justification-full, it will convert six lines into three lines, that is, what I want to do is a per line justification. Is this possible in emacs? Thank you all very much for your help. Inhaki2006

  • Sphinx search: failed to unpack mysqlcompress column

    - by Un_tangable
I have compiled sphinx 0.9.9 for debian x64. When I try to index using unpack_mysqlcompress, I get this error: "WARNING: failed to unpack column 'page_text', error=-5" The 'page_text' field is around 5Kb, and unpack_mysqlcompress_maxsize is set to 64M, yet the zlib manual says error -5 indicates Z_BUF_ERROR. Also if mysql does the decompression using UNCOMPRESS(), it works fine. Any ideas why sphinx is generating this error?

  • Unable to center text in IE but works in firefox

    - by greenpool
Can somebody point out where I'm going wrong with the following code. Text inside td elements need to be centered except for Summary and Experience. This only appears to work in Firefox/chrome. In IE8 all td text are displayed as left-justified. No matter what I try it doesn't center it. Any particular reason why this would happen? Thanks. css #viewAll { font-family:"Trebuchet MS", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; width:100%; border-collapse:collapse; margin-left:10px; table-layout: fixed; } #viewAll td, #viewAll th { font-size:1.1em; border:1px solid #98bf21; word-wrap:break-word; text-align:center; overflow:hidden; } #viewAll tbody td{ padding:2px; } #viewAll th { font-size:1.1em; padding-top:5px; padding-bottom:4px; background-color:#A7C942; color:#ffffff; } table <?php echo '<table id="viewAll" class="tablesorter">'; echo '<thead>'; echo '<tr align="center">'; echo '<th style="width:70px;">Product</th>'; echo '<th style="width:105px;">Prob</th>'; echo '<th style="width:105px;">I</th>'; echo '<th style="width:60px;">Status</th>'; echo '<th style="width:120px;">Experience</th>'; echo '<th style="width:200px;">Technical Summary</th>'; echo '<th style="width:80px;">Record Created</th>'; echo '<th style="width:80px;">Record Updated</th>'; echo '<th style="width:50px;">Open</th>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '</thead>'; echo '<tbody>'; while ($data=mysqli_fetch_array($result)){ #limiting the summary text displayed in the table $limited_summary = (strlen($data['summary']) > 300) ? substr(($data['summary']),0,300) . However when we search on google or bing or yahoo using the keyword Vialogues, We are given results of the keyword dialogues and this message “showing results for dialogues, search instead for vialogues”. I am wondering if it's possible to list the site without the search engine suggesting “showing results for dialogues, search instead for vialogues”?

  • Where can I safetly search domain whois without worrying about the search engine parking on the domain immediately after the search?

    - by Evan Plaice
There are a lot of companies that provide domain whois but I've heard of a lot of people who had bad experiences where the domain was bought soon after the whois search and the price was increased dramatically. Where can I gain access to a domain whois where I don't have to worry about that happening? Update: Apparently, the official name for this practice is called Domain Front Running and some sites go as far as to create explicit policies stating that they don't do it. This is where a domain registrar or an intermediary (like a domain lookup site) mines the searches for possibly attractive domains and then either sells the data to a third-party, or goes ahead and registers the name themselves ahead of you. In one case a registrar took advantage of what's known as the "grace period" and registered every single domain users looked up through them and held on to them for 5 days before releasing them back into the pool at no cost to themselves. Source: domainwarning.com And apparently, after ICANN was notified of the practice, they wrote it off as a coincidence of random 'domain tasting'. Source: See for yourself

  • Python - Using "Google AJAX Search" API's Local Search Objects

    - by user330739
Hi! I've just started using Google's search API to find addresses and the distances between those addresses. I used geopy for this, but, I often had the problem of not getting the correct addresses for my queries. I decided to experiment, therefore, with Google's "Local Search" (http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxsearch/local.html). Anyway, I wanted to ask if I could use the "Local Search" objects provided by the API within python. Something tells me that I can't and that I have to use json. Does anyone know if there is a work around? PS: Im trying to make something like this: http://www.google.com/uds/samples/random/lead.html ... except a matrix type deal where the insides will be filled with distances between the addresses. Thanks for reading!

  • Within headers, images with alt text vs. text

    - by Court
Do search engines treat the alt text of an image placed within an h1 tag the same way they would treat regular text placed in an h1 tag? I gave a search through here looking for an answer to this question, but was only able to find information on image replacement and the infamous h1 debate. For example would: <h1><img src="#" alt="Contact Us" /></h1> Act the same as: <h1>Contact Us</h1> In the electronic eye of a search engine? This seems considerably less "CSS Hacky" than other image replacement techniques like negative text indents, display:none, height:0, or ridiculous z-index integers.
