  • Where to define exception classes, inside classes or on a higher level?

    - by rve
    Should exception classes be part of the class which may throw them or should they exist on a higher level? For example : class Test { public: class FooException: public ExceptionBase { }; void functionThrowingFooException(); }; or class FooException: public ExceptionBase { }; class Test { public: void functionThrowingFooException(); }; (functionThrowingFooException() is the only function to ever throw a FooException)

  • database design help for game / user levels / progress

    - by sprugman
    Sorry this got long and all prose-y. I'm creating my first truly gamified web app and could use some help thinking about how to structure the data. The Set-up Users need to accomplish tasks in each of several categories before they can move up a level. I've got my Users, Tasks, and Categories tables, and a UserTasks table which joins the three. ("User 3 has added Task 42 in Category 8. Now they've completed it.") That's all fine and working wonderfully. The Challenge I'm not sure of the best way to track the progress in the individual categories toward each level. The "business" rules are: You have to achieve a certain number of points in each category to move up. If you get the number of points needed in Cat 8, but still have other work to do to complete the level, any new Cat 8 points count toward your overall score, but don't "roll over" into the next level. The number of Categories is small (five currently) and unlikely to change often, but by no means absolutely fixed. The number of points needed to level-up will vary per level, probably by a formula, or perhaps a lookup table. So the challenge is to track each user's progress toward the next level in each category. I've thought of a few potential approaches: Possible Solutions Add a column to the users table for each category and reset them all to zero each time a user levels-up. Have a separate UserProgress table with a row for each category for each user and the number of points they have. (Basically a Many-to-Many version of #1.) Add a userLevel column to the UserTasks table and use that to derive their progress with some kind of SUM statement. Their current level will be a simple int in the User table. Pros & Cons (1) seems like by far the most straightforward, but it's also the least flexible. Perhaps I could use a naming convention based on the category ids to help overcome some of that. (With code like "select cats; for each cat, get the value from Users.progress_{cat.id}.") It's also the one where I lose the most data -- I won't know which points counted toward leveling up. I don't have a need in mind for that, so maybe I don't care about that. (2) seems complicated: every time I add or subtract a user or a category, I have to maintain the other table. I foresee synchronization challenges. (3) Is somewhere in between -- cleaner than #2, but less intuitive than #1. In order to find out where a user is, I'd have mildly complex SQL like: SELECT categoryId, SUM(points) from UserTasks WHERE userId={user.id} & countsTowardLevel={user.level} groupBy categoryId Hmm... that doesn't seem so bad. I think I'm talking myself into #3 here, but would love any input, advice or other ideas. P.S. Sorry for the cross-post. I wrote this up on SO and then remembered that there was a game dev-focused one. Curious to see if I get different answers one place than the other....

  • Why doesn't the Windows 7 volume mixer remember per-application levels for all applications?

    - by mdives
    If I have the device's master level set to 50, and then lower an application level to 25; Once I close that application and reopen it, the volume levels should persist. The master level should remain at 50 and the application's at 25. This does happen for most applications. However, for one in particular, Napster, it does not. I subscribe to Napster's streaming service. I use the Napster desktop application to connect to that service. Every time that I open the Napster app, I have to adjust the application's volume level down in the volume mixer. When I open the app again after closing it, I have to do the same thing, the volume mixer is not remembering the set level. In fact. The level is reset back to 50, the same level as the device's master level. Has anyone else experienced this, with Napster or any other application? Is there a solution or is this a known issue?

  • Problems creating a functioning table

    - by Hoser
    This is a pretty simple SQL query I would assume, but I'm having problems getting it to work. if (object_id('#InfoTable')is not null) Begin Drop Table #InfoTable End create table #InfoTable (NameOfObject varchar(50), NameOfCounter varchar(50), SampledValue float(30), DayStamp datetime) insert into #InfoTable(NameOfObject, NameOfCounter, SampledValue, DayStamp) select vPerformanceRule.ObjectName AS NameOfObject, vPerformanceRule.CounterName AS NameOfCounter, Perf.vPerfRaw.SampleValue AS SampledValue, Perf.vPerfHourly.DateTime AS DayStamp from vPerformanceRule, vPerformanceRuleInstance, Perf.vPerfHourly, Perf.vPerfRaw where (ObjectName like 'Logical Disk' and CounterName like '% Free Space' AND SampleValue > 95 AND SampleValue < 100) order by DayStamp desc select NameOfObject, NameOfCounter, SampledValue, DayStamp from #InfoTable Drop Table #InfoTable I've tried various other forms of syntax, but no matter what I do, I get these error messages. Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 10 Invalid column name 'NameOfObject'. Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 10 Invalid column name 'NameOfCounter'. Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 10 Invalid column name 'SampledValue'. Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 10 Invalid column name 'DayStamp'. Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 22 Invalid column name 'NameOfObject'. Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 22 Invalid column name 'NameOfCounter'. Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 22 Invalid column name 'SampledValue'. Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 22 Invalid column name 'DayStamp'. Line 10 is the first 'insert into' line, and line 22 is the second select line. Any ideas?

  • Silverlight Tree View with Multiple Levels

    - by psheriff
    There are many examples of the Silverlight Tree View that you will find on the web, however, most of them only show you how to go to two levels. What if you have more than two levels? This is where understanding exactly how the Hierarchical Data Templates works is vital. In this blog post, I am going to break down how these templates work so you can really understand what is going on underneath the hood. To start, let’s look at the typical two-level Silverlight Tree View that has been hard coded with the values shown below: <sdk:TreeView>  <sdk:TreeViewItem Header="Managers">    <TextBlock Text="Michael" />    <TextBlock Text="Paul" />  </sdk:TreeViewItem>  <sdk:TreeViewItem Header="Supervisors">    <TextBlock Text="John" />    <TextBlock Text="Tim" />    <TextBlock Text="David" />  </sdk:TreeViewItem></sdk:TreeView> Figure 1 shows you how this tree view looks when you run the Silverlight application. Figure 1: A hard-coded, two level Tree View. Next, let’s create three classes to mimic the hard-coded Tree View shown above. First, you need an Employee class and an EmployeeType class. The Employee class simply has one property called Name. The constructor is created to accept a “name” argument that you can use to set the Name property when you create an Employee object. public class Employee{  public Employee(string name)  {    Name = name;  }   public string Name { get; set; }} Finally you create an EmployeeType class. This class has one property called EmpType and contains a generic List<> collection of Employee objects. The property that holds the collection is called Employees. public class EmployeeType{  public EmployeeType(string empType)  {    EmpType = empType;    Employees = new List<Employee>();  }   public string EmpType { get; set; }  public List<Employee> Employees { get; set; }} Finally we have a collection class called EmployeeTypes created using the generic List<> class. It is in the constructor for this class where you will build the collection of EmployeeTypes and fill it with Employee objects: public class EmployeeTypes : List<EmployeeType>{  public EmployeeTypes()  {    EmployeeType type;            type = new EmployeeType("Manager");    type.Employees.Add(new Employee("Michael"));    type.Employees.Add(new Employee("Paul"));    this.Add(type);     type = new EmployeeType("Project Managers");    type.Employees.Add(new Employee("Tim"));    type.Employees.Add(new Employee("John"));    type.Employees.Add(new Employee("David"));    this.Add(type);  }} You now have a data hierarchy in memory (Figure 2) which is what the Tree View control expects to receive as its data source. Figure 2: A hierachial data structure of Employee Types containing a collection of Employee objects. To connect up this hierarchy of data to your Tree View you create an instance of the EmployeeTypes class in XAML as shown in line 13 of Figure 3. The key assigned to this object is “empTypes”. This key is used as the source of data to the entire Tree View by setting the ItemsSource property as shown in Figure 3, Callout #1. Figure 3: You need to start from the bottom up when laying out your templates for a Tree View. The ItemsSource property of the Tree View control is used as the data source in the Hierarchical Data Template with the key of employeeTypeTemplate. In this case there is only one Hierarchical Data Template, so any data you wish to display within that template comes from the collection of Employee Types. The TextBlock control in line 20 uses the EmpType property of the EmployeeType class. You specify the name of the Hierarchical Data Template to use in the ItemTemplate property of the Tree View (Callout #2). For the second (and last) level of the Tree View control you use a normal <DataTemplate> with the name of employeeTemplate (line 14). The Hierarchical Data Template in lines 17-21 sets its ItemTemplate property to the key name of employeeTemplate (Line 19 connects to Line 14). The source of the data for the <DataTemplate> needs to be a property of the EmployeeTypes collection used in the Hierarchical Data Template. In this case that is the Employees property. In the Employees property there is a “Name” property of the Employee class that is used to display the employee name in the second level of the Tree View (Line 15). What is important here is that your lowest level in your Tree View is expressed in a <DataTemplate> and should be listed first in your Resources section. The next level up in your Tree View should be a <HierarchicalDataTemplate> which has its ItemTemplate property set to the key name of the <DataTemplate> and the ItemsSource property set to the data you wish to display in the <DataTemplate>. The Tree View control should have its ItemsSource property set to the data you wish to display in the <HierarchicalDataTemplate> and its ItemTemplate property set to the key name of the <HierarchicalDataTemplate> object. It is in this way that you get the Tree View to display all levels of your hierarchical data structure. Three Levels in a Tree View Now let’s expand upon this concept and use three levels in our Tree View (Figure 4). This Tree View shows that you now have EmployeeTypes at the top of the tree, followed by a small set of employees that themselves manage employees. This means that the EmployeeType class has a collection of Employee objects. Each Employee class has a collection of Employee objects as well. Figure 4: When using 3 levels in your TreeView you will have 2 Hierarchical Data Templates and 1 Data Template. The EmployeeType class has not changed at all from our previous example. However, the Employee class now has one additional property as shown below: public class Employee{  public Employee(string name)  {    Name = name;    ManagedEmployees = new List<Employee>();  }   public string Name { get; set; }  public List<Employee> ManagedEmployees { get; set; }} The next thing that changes in our code is the EmployeeTypes class. The constructor now needs additional code to create a list of managed employees. Below is the new code. public class EmployeeTypes : List<EmployeeType>{  public EmployeeTypes()  {    EmployeeType type;    Employee emp;    Employee managed;     type = new EmployeeType("Manager");    emp = new Employee("Michael");    managed = new Employee("John");    emp.ManagedEmployees.Add(managed);    managed = new Employee("Tim");    emp.ManagedEmployees.Add(managed);    type.Employees.Add(emp);     emp = new Employee("Paul");    managed = new Employee("Michael");    emp.ManagedEmployees.Add(managed);    managed = new Employee("Sara");    emp.ManagedEmployees.Add(managed);    type.Employees.Add(emp);    this.Add(type);     type = new EmployeeType("Project Managers");    type.Employees.Add(new Employee("Tim"));    type.Employees.Add(new Employee("John"));    type.Employees.Add(new Employee("David"));    this.Add(type);  }} Now that you have all of the data built in your classes, you are now ready to hook up this three-level structure to your Tree View. Figure 5 shows the complete XAML needed to hook up your three-level Tree View. You can see in the XAML that there are now two Hierarchical Data Templates and one Data Template. Again you list the Data Template first since that is the lowest level in your Tree View. The next Hierarchical Data Template listed is the next level up from the lowest level, and finally you have a Hierarchical Data Template for the first level in your tree. You need to work your way from the bottom up when creating your Tree View hierarchy. XAML is processed from the top down, so if you attempt to reference a XAML key name that is below where you are referencing it from, you will get a runtime error. Figure 5: For three levels in a Tree View you will need two Hierarchical Data Templates and one Data Template. Each Hierarchical Data Template uses the previous template as its ItemTemplate. The ItemsSource of each Hierarchical Data Template is used to feed the data to the previous template. This is probably the most confusing part about working with the Tree View control. You are expecting the content of the current Hierarchical Data Template to use the properties set in the ItemsSource property of that template. But you need to look to the template lower down in the XAML to see the source of the data as shown in Figure 6. Figure 6: The properties you use within the Content of a template come from the ItemsSource of the next template in the resources section. Summary Understanding how to put together your hierarchy in a Tree View is simple once you understand that you need to work from the bottom up. Start with the bottom node in your Tree View and determine what that will look like and where the data will come from. You then build the next Hierarchical Data Template to feed the data to the previous template you created. You keep doing this for each level in your Tree View until you get to the last level. The data for that last Hierarchical Data Template comes from the ItemsSource in the Tree View itself. • UNHCR and Stanyslas Matayo Receive Duke's Choice Award 2012

    - by Geertjan
    This year, NetBeans Platform applications winning Duke's Choice Awards were not only AgroSense, by Ordina in the Netherlands, and the air command and control system by NATO... but also Level One, the UNHCR registration and emergency management system. Unfortunately, Stanyslas Matayo, the architect and lead engineer of Level One, was unable to be at JavaOne to receive his award. It would have been really cool to meet him in person, of course, and he would have joined the NetBeans Party and NetBeans Day, as well as the NetBeans Platform panel discussions that happened at various stages throughout JavaOne. Instead, he received his award at Oracle Day 2012 Nairobi, some days ago, where he presented Level One and received the Duke's Choice Award: Level One is the UNHCR (UN refugee agency) application for capturing information on the first level details of refugees in an emergency context. In its recently released initial version, the application was used in Niger to register information about families in emergency contexts. Read more about it here and see the screenshot below. Congratulations, Stanyslas, and the rest of the development team working on this interesting and important project!

  • Memento with optional state?

    - by Korey Hinton
    EDIT: As pointed out by Steve Evers and pdr, I am not correctly implementing the Memento pattern, my design is actually State pattern. Menu Program I built a console-based menu program with multiple levels that selects a particular test to run. Each level more precisely describes the operation. At any level you can type back to go back one level (memento). Level 1: Server Type? [1] Server A [2] Server B Level 2: Server environment? [1] test [2] production Level 3: Test type? [1] load [2] unit Level 4: Data Collection? [1] Legal docs [2] Corporate docs Level 4.5 (optional): Load Test Type [2] Multi TIF [2] Single PDF Level 5: Command Type? [1] Move [2] Copy [3] Remove [4] Custom Level 6: Enter a keyword [setup, cleanup, run] Design States PROBLEM: Right now the STATES enum is the determining factor as to what state is BACK and what state is NEXT yet it knows nothing about what the current memento state is. Has anyone experienced a similar issue and found an effective way to handle mementos with optional state? static enum STATES { SERVER, ENVIRONMENT, TEST_TYPE, COLLECTION, COMMAND_TYPE, KEYWORD, FINISHED } Possible Solution (Not-flexible) In reference to my code below, every case statement in the Menu class could check the state of currentMemo and then set the STATE (enum) accordingly to pass to the Builder. However, this doesn't seem flexible very flexible to change and I'm struggling to see an effective way refactor the design. class Menu extends StateConscious { private State state; private Scanner reader; private ServerUtils utility; Menu() { state = new State(); reader = new Scanner(System.in); utility = new ServerUtils(); } // Recurring menu logic public void startPromptingLoop() { List<State> states = new ArrayList<>(); states.add(new State()); boolean redoInput = false; boolean userIsDone = false; while (true) { // get Memento from last loop Memento currentMemento = states.get(states.size() - 1) .saveMemento(); if (currentMemento == null) currentMemento = new Memento.Builder(0).build(); if (!redoInput) System.out.println(currentMemento.prompt); redoInput = false; // prepare Memento for next loop Memento nextMemento = null; STATES state = STATES.values()[states.size() - 1]; // get user input String selection = reader.nextLine(); switch (selection) { case "exit": reader.close(); return; // only escape case "quit": nextMemento = new Memento.Builder(first(), currentMemento, selection).build(); states.clear(); break; case "back": nextMemento = new Memento.Builder(previous(state), currentMemento, selection).build(); if (states.size() <= 1) { states.remove(0); } else { states.remove(states.size() - 1); states.remove(states.size() - 1); } break; case "1": nextMemento = new Memento.Builder(next(state), currentMemento, selection).build(); break; case "2": nextMemento = new Memento.Builder(next(state), currentMemento, selection).build(); break; case "3": nextMemento = new Memento.Builder(next(state), currentMemento, selection).build(); break; case "4": nextMemento = new Memento.Builder(next(state), currentMemento, selection).build(); break; default: if (state.equals(STATES.CATEGORY)) { String command = selection; System.out.println("Executing " + command + " command on: " + currentMemento.type + " " + currentMemento.environment); utility.executeCommand(currentMemento.nickname, command); userIsDone = true; states.clear(); nextMemento = new Memento.Builder(first(), currentMemento, selection).build(); } else if (state.equals(STATES.KEYWORD)) { nextMemento = new Memento.Builder(next(state), currentMemento, selection).build(); states.clear(); nextMemento = new Memento.Builder(first(), currentMemento, selection).build(); } else { redoInput = true; System.out.println("give it another try"); continue; } break; } if (userIsDone) { // start the recurring menu over from the beginning for (int i = 0; i < states.size(); i++) { if (i != 0) { states.remove(i); // remove all except first } } reader = new Scanner(System.in); this.state = new State(); userIsDone = false; } if (!redoInput) { this.state.restoreMemento(nextMemento); states.add(this.state); } } } }

    I remember reading a post inquiring the basic/advanced skills required for embedded engineer works. The top comment divides the answer into two parts, the basic level/design level ,not purely coding(something like this...). Then another level : writing application(all about programming). For each level/category, the top comment talks about the necessary skills/knowledge/college courses(for me at least) . While I was searching for this post as I was trying to read it again, I found similar questions, but these are not the one I saw: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1091931/what-skill-set-should-a-low-level-programmer-possess http://stackoverflow.com/questions/45247/how-do-i-get-started-in-embedded-programming http://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/3343/how-to-become-an-embedded-software-developer Has anyone seen the post I'm talking about? This is a repost from Stackoverflow where I was told that this question is off-topic. So..please help guys

  • Multi-level navigation controller on left-hand side of UISplitView with a small twist.

    - by user141146
    Hi. I'm trying make something similar to (but not exactly like) the email app found on the iPad. Specifically, I'd like to create a tab-based app, but each tab would present the user with a different UISplitView. Each UISplitView contains a Master and a Detail view (obviously). In each UISplitView I would like the Master to be a multi-level navigational controller where new UIViewControllers are pushed onto (or popped off of) the stack. This type of navigation within the UISplitView is where the application is similar to the native email app. To the best of my knowledge, the only place that has described a decent "splitviewcontroller inside of a uitabbarcontroller" is here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2475139/uisplitviewcontroller-in-a-tabbar-uitabbarcontroller and I've tried to follow the accepted answer. The accepted solution seems to work for me (i.e., I get a tab-bar controller that allows me to switch between different UISplitViews). The problem is that I don't know how to make the left-hand side of the UISplitView to be a multi-level navigation controller. Here is the code I used within my app delegate to create the initial "split view 'inside' of a tab bar controller" (it's pretty much as suggested in the aforementioned link). - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { NSMutableArray *tabArray = [NSMutableArray array]; NSMutableArray *array = [NSMutableArray array]; UISplitViewController *splitViewController = [[UISplitViewController alloc] init]; MainViewController *viewCont = [[MainViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MainViewController" bundle:nil]; [array addObject:viewCont]; [viewCont release]; viewCont = [[DetailViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DetailViewController" bundle:nil]; [array addObject:viewCont]; [viewCont release]; [splitViewController setViewControllers:array]; [tabArray addObject:splitViewController]; [splitViewController release]; array = [NSMutableArray array]; splitViewController = [[UISplitViewController alloc] init]; viewCont = [[Master2 alloc] initWithNibName:@"Master2" bundle:nil]; [array addObject:viewCont]; [viewCont release]; viewCont = [[Slave2 alloc] initWithNibName:@"Slave2" bundle:nil]; [array addObject:viewCont]; [viewCont release]; [splitViewController setViewControllers:array]; [tabArray addObject:splitViewController]; [splitViewController release]; // Add the tab bar controller's current view as a subview of the window [tabBarController setViewControllers:tabArray]; [window addSubview:tabBarController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } the class MainViewController is a UIViewController that contains the following method: - (IBAction)push_me:(id)sender { M2 *m2 = [[[M2 alloc] initWithNibName:@"M2" bundle:nil] autorelease]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:m2 animated:YES]; } this method is attached (via interface builder) to a UIButton found within MainViewController.xib Obviously, the method above (push_me) is supposed to create a second UIViewController (called m2) and push m2 into view on the left-side of the split-view when the UIButton is pressed. And yet it does nothing when the button is pressed (even though I can tell that the method is called). Thoughts on where I'm going wrong? TIA!

  • How can I get SQL Server transactions to use record-level locks?

    - by Joe White
    We have an application that was originally written as a desktop app, lo these many years ago. It starts a transaction whenever you open an edit screen, and commits if you click OK, or rolls back if you click Cancel. This worked okay for a desktop app, but now we're trying to move to ADO.NET and SQL Server, and the long-running transactions are problematic. I found that we'll have a problem when multiple users are all trying to edit (different subsets of) the same table at the same time. In our old database, each user's transaction would acquire record-level locks to every record they modified during their transaction; since different users were editing different records, everyone gets their own locks and everything works. But in SQL Server, as soon as one user edits a record inside a transaction, SQL Server appears to get a lock on the entire table. When a second user tries to edit a different record in the same table, the second user's app simply locks up, because the SqlConnection blocks until the first user either commits or rolls back. I'm aware that long-running transactions are bad, and I know that the best solution would be to change these screens so that they no longer keep transactions open for a long time. But since that would mean some invasive and risky changes, I also want to research whether there's a way to get this code up and running as-is, just so I know what my options are. How can I get two different users' transactions in SQL Server to lock individual records instead of the entire table? Here's a quick-and-dirty console app that illustrates the issue. I've created a database called "test1", with one table called "Values" that just has ID (int) and Value (nvarchar) columns. If you run the app, it asks for an ID to modify, starts a transaction, modifies that record, and then leaves the transaction open until you press ENTER. I want to be able to start the program and tell it to update ID 1; let it get its transaction and modify the record; start a second copy of the program and tell it to update ID 2; have it able to update (and commit) while the first app's transaction is still open. Currently it freezes at step 4, until I go back to the first copy of the app and close it or press ENTER so it commits. The call to command.ExecuteNonQuery blocks until the first connection is closed. public static void Main() { Console.Write("ID to update: "); var id = int.Parse(Console.ReadLine()); Console.WriteLine("Starting transaction"); using (var scope = new TransactionScope()) using (var connection = new SqlConnection(@"Data Source=localhost\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=test1;Integrated Security=True")) { connection.Open(); var command = connection.CreateCommand(); command.CommandText = "UPDATE [Values] SET Value = 'Value' WHERE ID = " + id; Console.WriteLine("Updating record"); command.ExecuteNonQuery(); Console.Write("Press ENTER to end transaction: "); Console.ReadLine(); scope.Complete(); } } Here are some things I've already tried, with no change in behavior: Changing the transaction isolation level to "read uncommitted" Specifying a "WITH (ROWLOCK)" on the UPDATE statement

  • Problem with FedEx Address validation web service

    - by DJ Matthews
    Hi, I'm trying to get started with Fedex'es Address validation service and I'm running into a road block with FedEx's own demo application. This is the code in there app: Sub Main() ''# Build a AddressValidationRequest object Dim request As AddressValidationRequest = New AddressValidationRequest() Console.WriteLine("--- Setting Credentials ---") request.WebAuthenticationDetail = New WebAuthenticationDetail() request.WebAuthenticationDetail.UserCredential = New WebAuthenticationCredential() request.WebAuthenticationDetail.UserCredential.Key = "###" ''# Replace "XXX" with the Key request.WebAuthenticationDetail.UserCredential.Password = "###" ''# Replace "XXX" with the Password Console.WriteLine("--- Setting Account Information ---") request.ClientDetail = New ClientDetail() request.ClientDetail.AccountNumber = "###" ''# Replace "XXX" with clients account number request.ClientDetail.MeterNumber = "###" ''# Replace "XXX" with clients meter number request.TransactionDetail = New TransactionDetail() request.TransactionDetail.CustomerTransactionId = "Address Validation v2 Request using VB.NET Sample Code" ''# This is just an echo back request.Version = New VersionId() request.RequestTimestamp = DateTime.Now Console.WriteLine("--- Setting Validation Options ---") request.Options = New AddressValidationOptions() request.Options.CheckResidentialStatus = True request.Options.MaximumNumberOfMatches = 5 request.Options.StreetAccuracy = AddressValidationAccuracyType.LOOSE request.Options.DirectionalAccuracy = AddressValidationAccuracyType.LOOSE request.Options.CompanyNameAccuracy = AddressValidationAccuracyType.LOOSE request.Options.ConvertToUpperCase = True request.Options.RecognizeAlternateCityNames = True request.Options.ReturnParsedElements = True Console.WriteLine("--- Address 1 ---") request.AddressesToValidate = New AddressToValidate(1) {New AddressToValidate(), New AddressToValidate()} request.AddressesToValidate(0).AddressId = "WTC" request.AddressesToValidate(0).Address = New Address() request.AddressesToValidate(0).Address.StreetLines = New String(0) {"10 FedEx Parkway"} request.AddressesToValidate(0).Address.PostalCode = "38017" request.AddressesToValidate(0).CompanyName = "FedEx Services" Console.WriteLine("--- Address 2 ---") request.AddressesToValidate(1).AddressId = "Kinkos" request.AddressesToValidate(1).Address = New Address() request.AddressesToValidate(1).Address.StreetLines = New String(0) {"50 N Front St"} request.AddressesToValidate(1).Address.PostalCode = "38103" request.AddressesToValidate(1).CompanyName = "FedEx Kinkos" Dim addressValidationService As AddressValidationService.AddressValidationService = New AddressValidationService.AddressValidationService ''# Try ''# This is the call to the web service passing in a AddressValidationRequest and returning a AddressValidationReply Console.WriteLine("--- Sending Request..... ---") Dim reply As New AddressValidationReply() reply = addressValidationService.addressValidation(request) Console.WriteLine("--- Processing request.... ---") ''#This is where I get the error If (Not reply.HighestSeverity = NotificationSeverityType.ERROR) And (Not reply.HighestSeverity = NotificationSeverityType.FAILURE) Then If (Not reply.AddressResults Is Nothing) Then For Each result As AddressValidationResult In reply.AddressResults Console.WriteLine("Address Id - " + result.AddressId) Console.WriteLine("--- Proposed Details ---") If (Not result.ProposedAddressDetails Is Nothing) Then For Each detail As ProposedAddressDetail In result.ProposedAddressDetails Console.WriteLine("Score - " + detail.Score) Console.WriteLine("Address - " + detail.Address.StreetLines(0)) Console.WriteLine(" " + detail.Address.StateOrProvinceCode + " " + detail.Address.PostalCode + " " + detail.Address.CountryCode) Console.WriteLine("Changes -") For Each change As AddressValidationChangeType In detail.Changes Console.WriteLine(change.ToString()) Next Console.WriteLine("") Next End If Console.WriteLine("") Next End If Else For Each notification As Notification In reply.Notifications Console.WriteLine(notification.Message) Next End If Catch e As SoapException Console.WriteLine(e.Detail.InnerText) Catch e As Exception Console.WriteLine(e.Message) End Try Console.WriteLine("Press any key to quit !") Console.ReadKey() End Sub It seems to send the request object to the web service, but the"reply" object is returned with "Nothing". I could understand if I wrote the code, but good god... they can't even get their own code to work? Has anyone else seen/fixed this problem?

  • Using respond_to ... format.json and jQuery Form Plugin by malsup

    - by Topher Fangio
    Hello all, I'm having a tad bit of trouble getting the jQuery Form Plugin to work properly with a file-upload field. When I use the plugin to submit the form without a file-upload field, the format.json portion of the respond_to do |format| block is called properly. However, by adding the file-upload field, it only executes the format.html portion which makes my javascript code think that an error has occurred. Has anyone run into this before or know a way to force the plugin to always use json? Alternatively, can I modify the url that the plugin uses to force Rails to render the json? Thanks very much for any help! Code below: # app/controllers/details_controller.rb def create @detail = Detail.new(params[:detail]) style = params[:detail_style].to_sym || :thumb data = { :id => '5', :url => 'test.rails' } respond_to do |format| if @detail.save flash[:notice] = 'Your image has been saved.' data = { :id => @detail.id, :url => @detail.data.url(style) } format.html { redirect_to :action => 'index' } format.json { render :json => "<textarea>#{data.to_json}</textarea>", :status => :created } else format.html { render :action => 'new' } format.json { render :json => @detail.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end /* app/views/sidebar/_details.html.erb (excerpt) */ <% form_for(Detail.new, :html => { :multipart => true } ) do |f| %> <%= hidden_field_tag 'detail_style', 'thumb' %> <%= f.label :image, "Recent Images" %> <%= f.file_field :image%> <p> <%= f.submit "Upload" %> </p> <% end %> <script> $(document).ready(function() { var options = { dataType: 'json', success: function(json, statusText) { console.log("success: " + json); }, error: function(xhr, statusText, errorThrown) { console.log("error: " + xhr.responseText); } }; $('#new_detail').ajaxForm(options); });

  • How can I iterate over a collection of objects returned by a LINQ-to-XML query?

    - by billmaya
    I've got this XML: <BillingLog> <BillingItem> <date-and-time>2003-11-04</date-and-time> <application-name>Billing Service</application-name> <severity>Warning</severity> <process-id>123</process-id> <description>Timed out on a connection</description> <detail>Timed out after three retries.</detail> </BillingItem> <BillingItem> <date-and-time>2010-05-15</date-and-time> <application-name>Callback Service</application-name> <severity>Error</severity> <process-id>456</process-id> <description>Unable to process callback</description> <detail>Reconciliation timed out after two retries.</detail> </BillingItem> </BillingLog> That I want to project using LINQ-to-XML into a collection of BillingItem objects contained in a single BillingLog object. public class BillingLog { public IEnumerable<BillingItem> items { get; set; } } public class BillingItem { public string Date { get; set; } public string ApplicationName { get; set; } public string Severity { get; set; } public int ProcessId { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public string Detail { get; set;} } This is the LINQ query that I'm using to project the XML (which is contained in the string variable source). XDocument xdoc = XDocument.Parse(source); var log = from i in xdoc.Elements("BillingLog") select new BillingLog { items = from j in i.Descendants("BillingItem") select new BillingItem { Date = (string)j.Element("date-and-time"), ApplicationName = (string)j.Element("application-name"), Severity = (string)j.Element("severity"), ProcessId = (int)j.Element("process-id"), Description = (string)j.Element("description"), Detail = (string)j.Element("detail") } }; When I try and iterate over the objects in log using foreach. foreach (BillingItem item in log) { Console.WriteLine ("{0} | {1} | {2} | {3} | {4} | {5}", item.Date, item.ApplicationName, item.Severity, item.ProcessId.ToString(), item.Description, item.Detail); } I get the following error message from LINQPad. Cannot convert type 'UserQuery.BillingLog' to 'UserQuery.BillingItem' Thanks in advance.

  • Providing lat/long AND title in iOS Maps URL seems to cause zoom level to be ignored

    - by Ian Howson
    I'm writing an iOS app that shows a location in Maps upon a user action. I'd like to drop a pin with a description and zoom in to show map detail. If I invoke Maps with the url http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-33.895851,151.18483+(Some+Description)&z=19 I get a pin with 'Some Description', but the zoom level is ignored. This does work on the Google Maps website. If I use http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-33.895851,151.18483&z=19 the zoom works, but I get no pin. I've tried a few combinations of ?q=, ?ll= and ?sll=, but so far, nothing will change zoom and show a description. Any clues? Just so we're really clear, here are some screenshots. I want this to work on a real device (i.e. with iOS Maps). The simulator uses Google Maps through Safari. Here's what I see with URL 1 ([[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString: @"http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-33.895851,151.18483+(Some+Description)&z=19"]];) This is URL 2 ([[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString: @"http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-33.895851,151.18483&z=19"]];): This is relikd's suggestion ([[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString: @"http://maps.google.com/maps?z=19&q=-33.895851,151.18483+(Some+Description)"]];): I want the image I see in screenshot 2, but with a pin and a description.

  • Condition Error: Property is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level.

    - by Stoive
    I've have a workflow whose root activity is a custom NativeActivity with a public InArgument called XmlData. When I try and use this argument in a child If activity I get the following error using XmlData within the condition: 'XmlData' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level I'm adding the argument inside CacheMetadata using the metadata.AddArgument method, and I've tried adding the child property it has using both AddChild and AddImplementationChild. If I replace my custom activity with an ActivityBuilder and use code to create a DynamicActivityProperty then the condition can be compiled successfully, so I don't see what I'm missing when I use my own code.

  • C# How to get the current project directory or the bin directory and move a few level up?

    - by melaos
    Hi there, I have an ASP.Net MVC app, and i have some xsl files inside of the Content directory. I've try a few methods to get directory dynamically buy keep on coming short. So how do i get the directory to point to the Content/xsl folder? the closest that i came to was with this: this.GetType().Assembly.CodeBase which only returns the project DLL, but i can't figure out how to move up a few levels from there or what .net library to use to navigate around the path. there's no ../.. :( Basically i want to navigate to the Content/xsl folder which is at the same level of the Bin directory. Any idea? thanks.

  • Lazy Load images on Listview in android(Beginner Level)?

    - by Praveen Chandrasekaran
    Hi all, I am working on the listview with the custom adapter. I want to load the images and text view on it. The images are load from the internet urls. I just want to show the images which are visible list item to hte user. I refered the Shelves opensource project example from romainguy, but its to complicated to understand the code. For a beginner level, I just want to know how to handle the tag between the adapter and activity. From the commonsware example I can set the tag on adapter, but can't show the corresponding image at the idle state of the listview. Please help me with your ideas. Sample codes are more understandable. Thanks. EDIT: The combination of Efficient and Slow Adapter in ApiDemos is more helpful to understand.
