No C++ love when it comes to the "hidden features of" line of questions? Figured I would throw it out there. What are some of the hidden features of C++?
Hey! I've searched high and low for this, and no luck. Is there a way that CRUD methods for a MySQL install (Linux box) be exposed via ADO.NET WCF Data Services? I would really love to leverage this in my WPF app :)
Thank u!
(This was asked before but the answers were not conclusive)
While I love development using Xcode (3.2.1), I have the need to port some projects to other UNIX systems, and even Windows. The code is all C++ but fairly complex. I'm looking for a way to automated / semi-automated generation of equivalent Makefiles out of my Xcode projects, after getting tired to do this by manual trial-and-error.
Thanks for any hints.

It seems JQuery, its plugins and UI has largest popularity among JS platforms. I love and use Adobe technology stack every day, I wonder if Adobe Spry will be good addition to skill set.
Is it good enough comparing to JQuery ? Spry development is not moving forward fast and there's not much information about it, does it have future ?
Hi folks,
I have been playing with other frameworks, such as NodeJS, lately.
I love the possibility to return a response, and still being able to do further operations.
e.g.
def view(request):
do_something()
return HttpResponse()
do_more_stuff() #not possible!!!
Maybe Django already offers a way to perform operations after returning a request, if that is the case that would be great.
Help would be very much appreciated! =D
Hi, I'm new at ruby and I would like to ask you guys if there's something that could improve my Ruby code. Here's my script:
#!/usr/bin/ruby -w
require 'mysql'
dbh = Mysql.real_connect('localhost', 'db_user', 'password', 'db_table')
tables = dbh.query('show tables')
tables.each do |table|
puts "#{table}" + " (" + "#{table}".length.to_s + ")"
end
I'd love to hear your comments. Thanks in advance
Soon I'll be working on a batch script where I will need to make some changes to some HTML files.
I know that I can use DOMDocument and DOMXPath to manipulate these files. But, I really love JQuery. It would be great if there was something a lot more like JQuery in the PHP world.
Does anybody know if something like that exists?
Thanks!

I have long been a fan of _why's Camping microframework -- lightweight, great for microscopic applications (low concurrency, easy to use and edit and maintain), which is what I do. I'd love to know if there's something similar for PHP; full-blown app frameworks like CakePHP or Symphony are very large for what I do, but I can't seem to find nothing "less".
What PHP framework would you prefer, in this situation?
How do I generate a transformation matrix for rotating points/others by the angle between two lines/vectors/directions in CGAL?
2D is what I need. 3D is what I love.
I am a software engineer who would love to "disconnect" from the "company store" so-to-speak.
This concept of Stack-Overflow is great...so, because I know that software engineers need coffee and food, how do you monetize this?
Just wondering.
I'm using the TTThumbsViewController section of the three20 framework, and I have the status bar hidden throughout my application.
When the user views the full size image, taps the screen(hiding the controls), when they tap again the controls reappear but the status bar is there too.
I've searched through the whole library and been unable to isolate the section where this is happening. I'd love it if someone could point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
BB
I am trying to create a professional chat application using Flex. Unfortunately, the security window that pops up asking the user to allow or deny the application access to the web cam, (the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window) doesn't really look that great and I'd like to be able to skin it.
I'd really love to make this window look nicer. Is it even possible to skin this window?
Some time in the near future I will need to implement a cross-language word count, or if that is not possible, a cross-language character count.
I'd love it if I just had to look at English, but I need to consider every language here, Chinese, Korean, English, Arabic, Hindi, and so on.
I would like to know if Stack Overflow has any leads on where to start looking for an existing product / method to do this in PHP, as I am a good lazy programmer*

I'm using Ninject (1.5 ... soon to be 2) and I'm curious how other people use Ninject or other IoC containers to help wire up events to objects? It seems to me in my code that I'm doing it herky-jerky all over the place and would love some advice on how to clean it up a bit.
I have vimx installed, so I can copy in vimx to the x clipboard by using "+y and the like, which works well as long as I can keep the current vimx running.
However, I also love to be able to switch to the current running shell with ctrl-z and be able to paste what I copied from vim into the shell. Does anyone know how to do this, because as soon as I suspend vim with ctr-z the x-clipboard becomes empty, until I put vim into the fg again.
Hi all,
I found this article http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Talk:Dashboard_API
but for the love of me, I cannot understand how to use javascript in order to call the dashboard api. Does anyone know if it's possible?
Hi StackOverflow! I'm a CS student on well on my way to graduate. I have had a difficult time of finding relevant student jobs (they seems to be taken merely hours after the notice gets on the board) , so instead I'm looking for an open source project in need of help. I'm aware that I should choose one that I use, but I'm not aware of any OS-project that I use that needs help. That's why I'm asking you.
I don't have any deep experience, but I here are some of my biggest projects so far:
BitTorrent-ish client in Python (a subset of BitTorrent)
HTTP 1.1 webserver in Java
Compiler from a subset of Java to run on JRE
Flash-framework project to model an iPad look and feel (not to run actual iPad programs) complete with an API for programs.
Complete MySQL database for a booking system, with departure and arrival times, so you could only book valid tickets (with a Java frontend).
I know, Java and languages like AS3 and C# feels natural per se, Python, and have done a fair bit of hacking around in C, but I don't feel very comfortable with it. Mostly I'm afraid to make a fuckup because I have such a high degree of control.
I would like to think I'm well aware of good software design practices, but in reality what I do is ask myself "would I like to use/maintain this?", and I love to refactor my code because I see optimizations. I love algorithms and to make them run in the best possible time. I don't have any preferred domain to work in, but I wouldn't mind it to be graphics or math heavy.
Ideally I'm looking for a project in C++ to learn the in's and out's of it, but I'm well aware that I don't know that language very well. I would like to have a mentor-like figure until I'm confident enough to stand on my own, not one to review all my code (I'm sure someone will to start with anyway), but to ask questions about the project and language in question. I do have a wife and two children, so don't expect me to put in 10+ hours every week. In return I can work on my own, I strive to program modular and maintainable code. Know how to read an API, use Google, StackOverflow and online resources in general.
If you have any questions, shoot. I'm looking forward to your suggestions.
Hi all,
How does something like this work without Flash?
http://www.dirtyphonebook.com/dashboard/425-205-1921
I right-clicked on it but there's no Flash menu. I love Flash because its stable and works. But is using some sort of Javascript hack for this kind of complex behavior actually a good idea?
I've always used PHP, but recently I've been reading about why it's bad. I love Python, but I don't know how it works with the web. I've never even seen Ruby... what is worth learning? Should I stick to PHP?
Hi, if I have a input with new lines in it like:
[INFO]
xyz
[INFO]
How can I pull out the xyz part. I tried a pattern like /^\[INFO\]$(.*?)$\[INFO\]/ms, but perl gives me:
Use of uninitialized value $\ in regexp compilation at scripts\t.pl line 6.
I've been trying things to get interpolation to stop like using qr// but alas, no love.
I found that when I ask something more to Python, python doesn't use my machine resource at 100% and it's not really fast, it's fast if compared to many other interpreted languages, but when compared to compiled languages i think that the difference is really remarkable.
It's possible to speedup things with a JIT compiler in Python 3 ?
Usually a JIT compiler is the only thing that can improve performances in interpreted languages, so i'm referring to this one, if other solutions are available i would love to accept new answers.
I mean you can point out which topics you want to be covered, or atleast focused. Beside that, if you are already a developer using FBConnect, is there anything you want a detailed example (other than Facebook's official developers wiki). I would love to add the topics here for sure.
Just for the record, server side examples will be shown in PHP :)
For the love of God I am not getting this easy code to work! It is always alerting out "null" which means that the string does not match the expression.
var pattern = "^\w+@[a-zA-Z_]+?\.[a-zA-Z]{2,3}$";
function isEmailAddress(str) {
str = "[email protected]";
alert(str.match(pattern));
return str.match(pattern);
}
Hello fellow stackoverflowers, quick question. I'm using C# 3.5 and I have a date that comes in as string in the following format:
Tue Jan 20 20:47:43 GMT 2009
First question, what is the name of that format? Second question, what's the easiest and clearest way to convert this string into a datetime? I would love to be able to use a .net API/Helper method if possible.
Thanks a bunch...
I've been using Subversion for a few years and after using SourceSafe, I just love Subversion. Combined with TortoiseSVN, I can't really imagine how it could be any better. Yet there's a growing number of developers claiming that Subversion has problems and that we should be moving to the new breed of distributed version control systems, such as Git. Can anyone explain how Git improves upon Subversion?
