• What's the best way to capture output from SQL Management Studio and paste it into an Outlook email?

  I'm constantly executing ad-hoc queries in SQL Management Studio and need to send the results to people via email. This happens several times a day so I'm looking for the best way to copy the results of the query from the results window into an Outlook email body so that it can be formatted in a reader friendly manner. I haven't come up with anything that works well for me. When it really matters, I end up going into Excel, executing the query from within there and then attaching the resulting spreadsheet. I'm looking for something that I can do without involving Excel if possible. Any ideas?

• Outlook AppointmentItem - How do I programmatically add RTF to its Body?

  I would like to set the Body of an AppointmentItem to a string of RTF that contains an embedded image. Setting Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.AppointmentItem.Body results in the RTF appearing as-is in the appointment. I have tried using Redemption which wraps the appointment and exposes an RTFBody property, but the RTF formatting (including the image) is lost. In this example (which doesn't have an embedded image) the RTF appears in the document as-is. • Outlook 2007 Autodiscover Out Of Office Assistant

  Hi We are having an issue trying to set the Out Of Office Assistant through Outlook 2007. It works fine through OWA but all of the users cannot set it through Outlook. They get: your out of office settings cannot be displayed because the server is unavailable We have run through: https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ and we get this error: Certificate name validation error More info: Host name xxxxxxxxxxxx.com does not match any name found on the server certificate CN=*.securedwebspace.com, OU=Domain Control Validated - RapidSSL(R), OU=See www.rapidssl.com/resources/cps (c)09, OU=GT93715821, O=*.securedwebspace.com, C=GB Any ideas on how we can fix this? (Everything else seems to work fine - Its just the Out of Office through Outlook) Server is SBS 2008 with Exchange 2007 installed. Thanks

• Personal Archive not Visible in Outlook

  I just added a second user to my Exchange 2010 box, it is in coexistence with exc2003. My account is already set up and working with a personal archive folder. The user I just set up however is unable to see the archive in Outlook. It is visible in OWA but not outlook. I have created a test profile on my PC with the users account and still no archive, if I jump back to my profile on the same box the archive is there so I know it is not an office versions issue. UPDATE: I have deleted all profiles from Outlook (one of which worked with the archive) now any new profiles including my own no longer show up. I think I have broken something In exchange. I get an auto discover certificate error which I am in the process of fixing. Perhaps the 2 problems are related. Also OWA on this server runs on a custom SSL port.

• Extract the vb code associated with a macro attached to an Action button in PowerPoint

  I have about 25 PowerPoint presentations, each with at least 45 slides. On each slide is a question with four possible answers and a help button which provides a hint relevant to the question. Each of the answers and the help button is a PowerPoint Action button that launches a macro. I am attempting to migrate all the questions/answers/hints into a SQL Database. I've worked with Office.Interop before when working with Excel and Word and I have plenty of SQL DB experience, so I don't foresee any issues with actually extracting the text portion of the question and answer and putting it into the db. What I have no idea how to do is given an object on a slide - get the action button info - Get the macro name - and finally get the macro's vb code. From there I can figure out how to parse out which is the correct answer and what the text of the hint is. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated. The guy I'm doing this for said he is willing to do it by hand... but that would take a while.

• Macro to improve callback registration readability

  I'm trying to write a macro to make a specific usage of callbacks in C++ easier. All my callbacks are member functions and will take this as first argument and a second one whose type inherits from a common base class. The usual way to go is: register_callback(boost::bind(&my_class::member_function, this, _1)); I'd love to write: register_callback(HANDLER(member_function)); Note that it will always be used within the same class. Even if typeof is considered as a bad practice, it sounds like a pretty solution to the lack of __class__ macro to get the current class name. The following code works: typedef typeof(*this) CLASS; boost::bind(& CLASS :: member_function, this, _1)(my_argument); but I can't use this code in a macro which will be given as argument to register_callback. I've tried: #define HANDLER(FUN) \ boost::bind(& typeof(*this) :: member_function, this, _1); which doesn't work for reasons I don't understand. Quoting GCC documentation: A typeof-construct can be used anywhere a typedef name could be used. My compiler is GCC 4.4, and even if I'd prefer something standard, GCC-specific solutions are accepted.

  We have around 400 users who use Word and we want to make their life easier by distributing templates and macros over the network. The easiest way to do this of course to setup a shared network folder and let them get the appropriate templates and macros. Of course, each user has to know where to copy these files to in their local PC, and we have to rely on constant email communication to let them know for newer version of the macro and templates. The next alternative is to ask them to configure Word to point to these network folder. But of course any disruption to the network means disruption to their work. We are thinking to setup a synchronization mechanism that downloads new templates to their local machine. We are also thinking to make this sync tool to prompt users that it will download new templates - you know just to give them visibility that they are receiving changes. We are wondering what is the best approach that people usually use in their workplaces ? Are there any specific tool that can make this task easier ?

  I'm a little confused by how keyword accesses seem to behave in Clojure when they are evaluated at macro expansion time. The following works as I expect: (def m {:a 1}) (:a m) => 1 However the same keyword access doesn't seem to work within a macro: (def m {:a 1}) (defmacro get-a [x] (:a x)) (get-a m) => nil Any idea what is going on here?

• How can I create a macro that acts on a relative reference rather than an absolute reference to cell A1?

  I have a master rent statement in an Excel 2007 (macro enabled) spreadsheet that shows all tenants in rows with columns formed by the months. Each tenant then has a separate rent statement sheet like the one below that pulls the data through from the master rent statement and all I do then is to copy the last 4 columns to the right and add them to the right, just renaming the month labelled as ‘rent due’ with the current month and then hiding the previous last 4 columns to the left so that the statement always shows the previous month's activity and the amount due for the current month: I used a macro to speed up the creation of these statements, but then found that in some cases the result was wrong and needed major correction because the macro use absolute references i.e. its starting position was relative to cell A1 whereas some of my rent worksheets commence from a different column and in some cases from a different column and a different row. I have tried recording the macro with 'Use relative references' but when trying to use the macro it only gets part way through its operation before it stops and the message appears: Run time error '1004' Application defined or object defined error with the option to End or Debug or go to Help and then I'm stuck as I don't know how to debug and work in VBA or understand what has gone wrong. I want to record a single macro that always remains relative to the last 'Total Due' column heading (in the sample, it’s cell FF3 but on another worksheet could be cell GA26) and thus enables me regardless of where on the worksheet the rent statement is placed to add through my recorded macro a further four columns with updated dates and a repositioned 'Total Due' summary (in the sample in cells FE23 and FF23). The contents of cells FE23 and FE22 are always the same number of rows from the 'Sample Rent Statement, Service Charge and Sub Total' rows. I've searched on the web and in the help files of Excel 2007 but have been totally stumped by this, so currently I have to re-record a quantity of macros each month to cover all of the permutations of the worksheets in my Excel rent workbook, which is starting to become pointless in terms of saving time. Does someone know a solution to this problem please?!

• Need an excel macro to produce a formatted text file

  I am just learning how to make macros and I found a macro that nearly does what I need it to do, which is output a text file from Excel. What I need it to do is output this in a .mhd format, which I have done, and then take all the data written in the #fnum cells and place a return after each in the Excel file. Essentially I just need all the data to have their a specific line in the text file. I am certain there is an elegant way to go about this, but I can't seem to get it. • Unable to install ExchangeCdo with Outlook 2010

  We recently got the Blackberry Express Server for our small home business and linked it in with our Exchange 2010 server. All is well except for calendar syncing. From what I can tell I require the ExchangeCdo patch. Except when I go to install it, it errors saying I require Outlook 2007. I have Outlook 2010 on the server and have no real way of getting 2007 on instead. Any suggestions?

• I noticed the answer to the Aug 2009 question of using VBA to set Custom Flag values

  We are actively using the Follow Up mail feature to assign users to particular mail follow up items. Although mail item follow ups are generally the province of the individual user, by changing the flag value from "Follow Up" to "User name", we can see each other's follow up tasks and group on responsible party. Currently we accomplish the Flag value change manually. My sense is the easiest way to perfect the process is a separate macro for each user. Along the lines of the macro to change the star/end due date to end of month, please define the macro to re-assign the Flag value for each highlighted mail item (previously assigned by default).   Problem Starting Outlook shows only the splash screen with comment “loading profile”. I could cancel the startup but restarting shows the same. I verified with Task Manager that no hidden outlook process is bother me. Solution Scanpst Normally with Outlook the tool “Microsoft Outlook Inbox Repair Tool” (scanpst.exe) is additionally installed. Some people could access it via Startmenu, but not me. My lovely Launchy found it under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\SCANPST.EXE" Scanpst first ask you for the pst file which you would like to scan. I started with the first default offer: C:\Users\…\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\….ost And this brings up the information, that another application uses this file. Handle To investigate the causer Handle from Sysinternals is your friend in such cases. Start it from an administrative console and pipe the output to a file. handle > c:\temp\handle.txt Now you could open this file with the editor of your choose and search for the blocked file (your pst file). On top of the section you see the application which has a handle to this file opened (SfdcMsO1.exe). Task Manager Kill this application and start Outlook again. And voila – everything starts up fine … by me

To do so, I still have to press a button in the worksheet, which costs time and is annoying. Email -- Exchange Server --[something] For the [something] I was using Outlook 2003 & C# but it feels messy (A program is trying to access outlook, this could be a virus etc) Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application objOutlook = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application(); Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.NameSpace objNS = objOutlook.GetNamespace("MAPI"); objNS.Logon("MAPIProfile", "MAPIPassword", false, true); Is this the best way to do it? Is there a better way of retrieving and processing emails in a Microsoft environment???
