  • Microsoft DBMS on-the-fly aggregation

    - by ILya
Some time ago i was reading an article about new MS DBMS technology. It's some kind of OLAP but on the fly. This technology can bind to data flows and then provide a real time aggregation. So the question is "what is it's name?". I need such a technology now but can't remember it's name... Or maybe there are some similar technologies?

  • Visual Studio: What happened to the "Break when an exception is unhandled" option?

    - by Adrian Grigore
Hi, As far as I remember, Visual Studio (both 2008 and 2010) used to have an option to break either on thrown exceptions or on unhandled exceptions. Now when I bring up the Exceptions dialog (Ctr+Alt+E), it just offers to break when an exception is thrown: http://screencast.com/t/NDk3NDYxZD I've tried resizing to the columns in that dialog, but that did not help. Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

  • How long do you hold on to your old programming magazines? [closed]

    - by JohnMcG
I'm moving offices, and have a file drawer full of old C++ Reports, MSDN Journals, C/C++ Users Journals and other programming journals that are getting close to a decade old. I can't remember referring to them, but it seems wrong to throw them out. Do the rest of you have a drawer full of old programming magazines, or am I couple steps from a Hoarders episode?

  • CQRS event versioning

    - by Arnis L.
Versioning If your events changes you would create a new version of that event, and keep the old ones. To keep your domain code form being bloated with handling of all versions of events you would basically introduce a component that converts your events from previous to newer versions, and then apply them on the domain. Remember that events are things that actually happened in your domain so in most cases the information in deprecated events are valuable. I still haven't found any example of this. Any help?

  • How does Asp.Net MVC compare to Java MVC frameworks

    - by sumek
I've started my career as a Java developer, then moved to Asp.NET and recently to the Asp.Net MVC, which I like a lot. When developing in Java I used Struts1, which I remember as a hideous framework with loads of XML. Now I suspect that Java MVC frameworks have moved on from the Struts times. So how do modern Java MVC frameworks compare to the ASP.Net MVC? Which one of them is the most similar to the Asp.Net MVC?

  • Android Webview : Display numberpad?

    - by Shaun
Hi all, I implemented a WebView in my android app displaying a web form. One of the fields ask for the user to manually enter his phone number (in case the phone does not allow extracting of phone number). Right now, the qwerty soft keyboard pops up when user selects the field. Is there a way I can have the numberpad display instead? (Remember I'm using HTML and not native controls) Thanks! Shaun

  • how can I check my rsa passphrase?

    - by joachim
I think I've forgotten my RSA passphrase again. Is there a way to have my local command line prompt me for it so I can check if I at least what I remember it as is correct, so I don't needlessly change it? Next time I'm writing it on a post-it ;)

    - by Kapil
I want to capture a webpage as an image. I am able to do this using a firefox extension using context.drawWindow method. Now I want to strech myself and see if I can do this using a bookmarklet :) I remember reading somewhere that context.drawWindow() works only from the firefox toolbars. I dont know if that's still true or not. Can anyone shed some light if I can execute context.drawWindow() from a bookmarklet or no? Thanks Kapil

  • Design Patters in Rails

    - by Winston
I remember, I have a GoF book back in college about design patterns which helped me a lot with my C and C++ programming, since my jump ship to Rails I was trying to use those design patterns I learned previously, Rails is a relatively new paradigm to me, plurals, verbs, REST, DRY.. Can you give me a recommended book for Rails that I can easily understand what I previously learned back in College. P.S. I suspect Matz knew about the GoF book, and applied it on Ruby... :-)

  • CSS Semi-fixed Element?

    - by Kelso.b
I remember seeing an example of this recently, but for the life of me I can't find the site. It was a button or something similar that sat in its place near the top of the screen, then when you scroll down it stays on screen. Now that I think about it, it must have been javascript-powered, but it looked really natural. Does anyone know of a site with this functionality or information on how to do it?

  • What are the best Perl Introductions and references?

    - by Kieveli
I've been programming for 15+ years, and I've done perl programming 3 times in the past. Every time I come back to it, I remember nothing of the language. It's very bizarre. Now it's time to hit perl again, and I'm wondering what the best Intro / Reference / Best Practice sites are that people use. Which Perl Intro / Reference site do you recommend?

  • silverlight authentication

    - by user291400
Good day! I have an silverlight site (silverlight navigation application) and I want clients to log in on my site. I want to give them different rights of viewing pages. A WCF service gives me true or false when I enter a login and a password. Then, if it returns true, I want to remember the logged user. How can I do it? Using cookies or global variable or something else?

  • WML And Downloads

    - by Nathan Campos
I'm now playing with WML and WMLScript, but I'm doing a site that will have some content to download(some txt, doc, bmp, mpg, avi and jpg files), but some of my friends(that never developed in this language, just used the technology on the beginning) said that it's impossible. Then here are my questions: It's possible? How to do it? Remember that I'm using PHP combined with WML.

  • "tracing" version of readlink(1)

    - by jonrock
I would like a version of "readlink -f" that provides a trace of every individual symlink resolution it performs. Something like: $ linktrace /usr/lib64/sendmail /usr/lib64 -> lib /usr/lib/sendmail -> ../sbin/sendmail /usr/sbin/sendmail $ I know I have used this utility in the past, on linux, and also remember at the time thinking "the name of this tool is completely unintuitive and I will forget it". Well, that day has arrived.
