• Authentication for users on a Single Page App?

  I have developed a single page app prototype that is using Backbone on the front end and going to consume from a thin RESTful API on the server for it's data. Coming from heavy server side application development (php and python), I have really enjoyed the new different design approach with a thick client side MVC but am confused on how best to restrict the app to authenticated users who log in. I prefer to have the app itself behind a login and would also like to implement other types of logins eventually (openid, fb connect, etc) in addition to the site's native login. I am unclear how this is done and have been searching - but unsuccessful in finding information that made it clear to me. In the big picture, what is the current best practice for registering users and requiring them to login to use your single page app? Once a user is logged in, how are the api requests authenticated? Can I store a session but how do I detect for this session in the API calls? Any answers to this would be much appreciated!

• How do I shutdown 12.10 when ACPI is set to OFF?

  I recently installed 12.04 on an HP Spectre XT ultrabook. I installed 12.04 from a USB. When the install was complete, and the computer restarted, I got a blank screen. After some searching, I found that I had to choose "acpi=off" during the installation, which now shows up in the grub screen. Once I was on 12.04, I upgraded to 12.10. The issue now is that when I hit shutdown, the computer hangs on a purple shutdown screen. Usually, at this point, I press the power button on the machine to completely power off the machine. I am new to ubuntu, and would appreciate the help. Thanks.

• Google Places seo?

  Im familiar with seo and getting higher google listings but for allot of services google has recently been making there search results (were applicable) much more location orientated.. for instance searching for a "accountant in london" or "accountancy firm london" will through return the first half of page 1 as google places listings, then under about 6 of these you will get your normal search results so somone who used to rank #1 on page 1 now will rank effectily #7. What i was wandering is that i cant see any reasons as to why the company that rank high in the places results get there, often they are not high up in the search results. Is there a way to optimise on or offsite to rise up the google places listings in your city ?

• Business not showing up on right hand side of google search

  The business I work has currently has a verified business Google+ page and in the past this page has shown up as a thumbnail during Google searches. The thumbnail brings up basic information such as our picture and operating hours etc. However, since verifying the business page, the thumbnail overview of our business does not seem to show up anymore. I have tried Google searching our business on several computers and it still just brings up the normal search results. Is there a setting I need to activate in order for the thumbnail to appear?   I am searching suggestions for improvements? Currently our team use Github Issues to register changes in our software. Sometimes our customers have requirements that we will invoice them for. So now we reqister the same issue again in CRM. Unfortunately, the workflow is not as smooth as Github Issues and most developers try to avoid CRM if possible. It also feels waste of time to register the same issue twice. Are there any suggestions for better workflow than this?

• Photo Gallery Software - reads from a local directory - watches folder- user and group permissions

  Use Case: Photos are organised in a folder structure by date (by software lightroom/picasa) Want to run a local webserver to host a web gallery from (already know how to run lamp etc) I want to be able to attach metadata to the photos (probably through a database not residing in the photos folder) such that they can be tagged/categoried/albumed without affecting the original photos I want to be able to assign permissions to different albums to set users I want the software to watch the photo source folder for changes so that new photos are indexed ready for applying metadata and albums. I'd like the software to handle the rendering of numerous file types (photo formats) as well as video formatts I am language agnostic so php/python heck even c#, just want software that forfills the requirements. The main reason I am asking this question here as I am unsure what this software would even be called so google searching is quite difficult! Thanks for reading.

• removing an ssrs instance from a scale-out deployment

  If you're like me you had at one time connected one of your Reporting Services instances to a report server database that was already in use by another instance.  This allows the instance to show up in the Scale-out Deployment section of the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.  My problem was that the server that got joined to the original server was no longer available as it had been repurposed, and when I clicked Remove Server to remove it from my scale-out it would fail because it couldn't contact the server.  After searching for a solution for quite some time I decided to look around in the report server database tables, and voila!  All I had to do was remove the old server from the Keys table.  I can't guarantee there won't be any side effects to this method, but it worked like a charm for me.

• Installer can't find any partition

  I have a ubuntu 11.10 cd which I burned. And when I try to install Ubuntu I come all the way until it tells me to format partitions / choose partitions. And it can't see ANY partition at all. I have Windows 7 at the moment. I really don't know what the problem is, I've been googling it and searching the forums but no luck. I tried to install with WUBI and rebooted it. And when I was in "ubuntu", at the desktop in ubuntu a error came up telling me to choose a partition. I have no clue what the the problem is... My computer is a Packard Bell model ixtreme m5150 and I don't know what motherboard I have unfortunately. I didn't build it. Please help me.

• Toshiba satellite L500 no Wifi anymore!

  I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 with Ubuntu 12.04 and its wifi suddenly stopped working!! I've never seen like that before.. I tried also using external USB wifis but no success. I am not able to turn it on with the function keys nor using rfkill commands and similar WLAN manipulator Commands in the terminal! It was working before for at least 4-5 months!! The computer says it's turned off by hardware. I checked it and the Driver is fine. So why can i not use any Wifi on my computer?? Why it is suddenly disabled? I checked the BIOS too there is enabled the WLAN. I spent 10 hours for searching for solutions but i am out of ideas!!! Please Help!

  I manage a website. In order to lead the visitor to the latest post when entering the website, I set a 302 redirect from the homepage URL to the latest post URL. There's 1 to 2 posts a month so the redirection is made manually each time a new post gets published. Despite the website registration on google it doesn't get indexed at all. After searching for some solution on blogs and forums I understood this issue might be related to the 302 redirection. It's the first time I use redirections on a website, can someone help me?

  My laptop (HP Probook) webcam has always worked. When I upgraded to 13.10 it stopped working. No solution found then so gave up.   I have forgotten a slang programming term. This thing is an intentional bug or a decoy feature used as a distraction. An example usage, "Hey Bob, QA is doing a review today. Put a $THING into the module so they actually have a problem to find". This can be used negatively, to have a very obvious intentional flaw to discover as a distraction from a real problem. This can also be used positively. Its like how you always let rescue dogs 'find' a victim when searching a disaster area. It can also be used to verify that a QA process is actually catching flaws. What is the term I am looking for?

• Network connection on an Acer Aspire 5253?

  Brand new to Ubuntu and PCs for that matter. I've been a Mac user all my life but wanted to try Ubuntu on the cheap so I bought an Acer laptop 5253-BZ893. I got Ubuntu 10.10 installed with no problem. The only problem I have is I have no network connection options, wired or wireless. I just get "No Network Devices Available". The computer came with Windows 7 installed and I'm able to connect to my wireless network fine using Windows so I know the computer works. I've been searching forums and google for hours trying to figure out why I can't get a network connection using Ubuntu but so far no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  How can I get notified of updates to a certain PPA? For example when I am interested in new package versions of a certain package in a certain PPA? If a user has the package in question installed and is using the default desktop, she probably get notified via an icon in the traybar or something like that. But I am searching for a method which works even when the package is not installed (and without gnome). It should be reliable and prompt. Does launchpad provides some RSS/Atom-Feed features for PPAs? Or email notifications? (As a sidenote: I am surprised that even with my own PPA I only get an upload notification via mail - but no notification when the binary package is finished.)

I have a hub with 3 USB 3G modems, I got the 3 simultaneously connect with an upload speed of about 500kb in each approx. and a dynamic ip each. I do a unicast streaming with vlc rtp with a bandwidth of 1.5mb. Bone the sum of the three modems. I was searching on ifenslave, iproute. Then I found a draft vlc MultiCat. I understood that this could end, but configure it only moves a card. If I can help extend the information willingly. From now eternally grateful.

• Mouse disables on key press, but touchpad doesn't

  My mouse cursor disables for 1-2 seconds when the keyboard is used. This can make gaming especially difficult. The touchpad is fine; I can use it at the same time as the keyboard. Doing some forum searching, I can see that going to mouse and touchpad touchpad disable touchpad when typing works for the touchpad, but I still have the problem when using the mouse. I've tried using synaptiks, and setting the 'automatically switch off touchpad on keyboard activity' time to 0 seconds doesn't seem to work either. I'd appreciate any help.

Summerise the environmental context of your question e.g. If using SQL then state the version e.g. SQLExpress 2008 If you need to post a code or markup sample, tidy it up by removing extraneous blank lines and set the tab spacing to 2 rather than 4.   I'm trying to switch to bullet for physics simulation. Lemme just say first that I am so pleased with bullet's accuracy and performance. After messing around it for a bit, I'm now trying to load rigid bodies from files. Most of my models are in blender and with some searching, I was able to export them in .bullet format. However, loading the files into bullet doesn't look like an easy task. I've come across this page that points me to a sample application that loads bullet files. But then it goes and says that this loader is just a starting point. Is there any open source library out there that will allow me to load rigid bodies from a file? I don't really wanna spend that much time trying to create my own loader.

  I am using gnome-shell in Ubuntu 11.10. I am getting annoyed when dash search lists Recent Items. I have tried many ways to prevent it like Deleting activity.sqlite and activity.sqlite-journal files under ~/.local/share/zeitgeist Adding all the possible entries in Activity Log Manager to prevent application logging Specifying time range in Activity Log Manager to forget my activities. But none of the methods are working. The recent items list is still populated. Is there any way to tell dash not to list Recent Items while searching, other than the above methods? Or is there any way to delete the recent items list?
