• Why is my WordPress installation unable to create a directory?

  I am a new user of Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit and I want to test WordPress on my local PC installation. I've only installed LAMP and the latest version of WordPress for now. Further actions were creating a directory www in /home, i.e /home/www install wordpress in it. changed Apache to use /home/www instead of /var/www Apache is running smoothly & wordpress seems to be so as well. However, if try to change my background of my wordpress blog it throws an error Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2012/12. Is its parent directory writable by the server? Plese help me to resolve my problem.

Is it some simple configuration i can use for such redirect or i'm doomed to copy-paste a 100+ line configs from tutorials?

• Change permission for ALL folders and files

  I've been around Ubuntu for not too long now and I'm getting tired of a thing I used to accept. When I installed Apache and PHP on Ubuntu it was done with root meaning it got permission. So I changed that to me. Now I've just copied a big number of files, (PHP), to be viewed and edited in these directories. Now my problem: I can not view the files from var/www/ because it requires, for some reason, everyone to have access to the files. Not only me, or my group but everyone. No one else is using the computer but me, so I'm cool with it. Though I need a command to change ALL files permission recursively. When I've browsed the questions already been answered I find for example chown -R viktor:viktor /var/www/, or using sudo as well. This worked on the single var/www and the folders inside but not the files inside the folders and very odd I notice I can't do the same thing on example /var/www/dev/.

  Hello, I would like to allow PHP to execute a Git pull command. But there are some problems with the user and permissions. How did you solve the problem? PHP runs as user www-data. Therefore I've changed the .git directory owner/group to www-data (chown www-data:www-data -R .git). As it is turned out later www-data has no SSH keys. Is it a good idea to give it one? • case-specific mod rewrite on Wordpress subdomain multisite

  I have split a Wordpress blog into multiple category-specific blogs using subdomains, as the topics in the original blog were too broad to be lumped together effectively. Posts were exported from the parent www blog and imported into the subject-specific subdomain blogs. I believe .htaccess provides mod rewrite for all subdomains (including the original www) in a single .htaccess file. I use .htaccess to perform 301 redirect on post categories to the relevant post on the subdomain's blog. eg: RedirectMatch 301 ^/auto/(.*)$ http://auto.example.com/$1 The problem I have is that the category has been retained in the permalink structure in the subdomain blog, so that www.example.com/auto/mercedes is now auto.example.com/auto/mercedes. The 1st URL is redirect to the 2nd, but unfortunately, the 2nd URL is redirected to auto.example.com/mercedes using the same rewrite rule, which is not found, as the permalink on the subdomain's blog retains the parent category of auto. The solution would be to adjust the permalink structure in the subdomain's WP settings, so that the top level category does not duplicate the subdomain. My question would be: how do I then strip a section of the original (www) blog's post URL from the subdomain's URL when redirecting? eg: How do I redirect www.example.com/auto/mercedes to auto.example.com/mercedes? I'm assuming this would be a regular expression trick, which I am not great at. Update: I might have to use: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !auto.example.com$ in the default Wordpress if loop in .htaccess, and seperate my custom subdomain redirections into a second if loop section.

  Hi, I'm using Apache2 for completely local development purposes. I'm trying to make DocumentRoot to be /home/vikrant/www/ whereas permissions of /home/vikrant/ are 700. I'm getting 403 Forbidden when DocumentRoot is /home/vikrant/www/ however It Works! when DocumentRoot is /var/www/. I've even changed permissions of /home/vikrant/www/ to 777 and changed owner and group to www-data. Is it possible to serve from home directory whereas home directory doesn't has public permissions? If yes, then how?

  Is it possible to have a separate php.ini file that overrides the default php.ini file for each virtual host? I'm running Apache/2.2.14, PHP 5.3.2-1.   Im running ubuntu 12.04 lts 2gb ram 500gb hdd. My hdd have 4 partitions. Partition 1 = 40 gb Windows (NTFS, lable = win32) Partition 2 = 320 gb Windows (FAT label = common) Partition 3 = 40 gb Ubuntu (EXT4) I installed apached2 now to change its default www directory, I used 'gksu gedit /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default' and chaged to /media/common/www After all I run in terminal chmod 777 /media/common/www chmod 777 /media/common/www/. After that I type in firefox 127.0.0.1/index.php It says "Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu) Server at 127.0.0.1 Port 80" Before my changes it was working fine. How should i run my websites???

  Hello, I'm working on WampServer for development, I've set up the domain tuniguide.local and it works fine with this configuration: DocumentRoot "D:\www\tuniguide" ServerName tuniguide.local But when I wanted to add a subdomain fr.tuniguide.local I get a 404 Not Found with this configuration: DocumentRoot "D:\www\tuniguide\fr" ServerName fr.tuniguide.local It gives me this message: The requested URL /www/tuniguide/index.php was not found on this server.   I am a novice at Ubuntu and I've been given the task of installing and configuring NGINX to run ASP.NET applications. This is probably a stupid question but I'm using this tutorial as a starting guide and I'm stuck with where I have to set a socket with this command fastcgi-mono-server4 /applications=/:/var/www/www.domain1.xyz/ /socket=tcp:127.0.0.1:9000 What path am I supposed to replace '/var/www/www.domain1.xyz/' with? If I run the command as is I get an error saying Error creating the socket: Address already in use root@ubuntu:~# kill 9000; Please help.

• Where is the best location to keep shared-developer website files in the linux hierarchy?

  I just started hosting files for a website on my server, and I'm not sure where is an appropriate place to keep them. At the moment, I have them in /var/www/name.of.virtualhost.site/www/. That's obviously not secure because anything below the final public /www/ folder is also available since the /var/www/ contents are already being served up. For example, /var/www/name.of.virtualhost.site/docs/site_policies.txt is accessible via something like defaultsite.com/name.of.virtualhost.site/docs/site_policies.txt. So where is a good place to store the files that make up a website? (when it's a site that only I'm developing, I can obviously just stick them in /home/my_username/sites/name.of.virtualhost.site/, but that doesn't work well when I want other developers to be working on the site's files as well) I'm running a LAMP stack, not that I expect it to matter.
