The template look like as following Dear {!User:Full Name} you received one assignment. output of the email as following Dear John Smith you received one assignment. now I need to change the value as just John. we do not have attribute like first name and last name. but when we send an email it only take first word of the string. • How to get an internship with a low GPA?

  A lot of changed majors and some other mitigating circumstances have left me with a pretty low GPA. My GPA in the last couple of semesters hasn't been stellar, but my grades have gotten a LOT better. I want to try and start putting in some resumes to get a good internship this summer. I do think that I have some decent experience for someone at my level, but I see my GPA being a pretty big potential stumbling block. Is there anything I can do to help my chances of getting a good internship? (For the record, the mitigating circumstances aren't something I'd feel comfortable discussing with a potential employer. I'd prefer getting a job by proving my merit, not making excuses.)

• Trying to Install Rails 3

  I'm trying to install Rails 3 on a brand new MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.3, Ruby 1.8.7, and Rails 2.3.5 and I'm wondering if I've hosed myself. So far, I've run these commands: $ gem update --system $ gem install arel tzinfo builder memcache-client rack rack-test rack-mount erubis mail text-format thor bundler i18n $ gem install rails --pre However, when I run the last command, I get this error: ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::FilePermissionError) You don't have write permissions into the /usr/bin directory. I think it wants me to run the command with sudo so that it can write over /usr/bin/rails. But if I do that, won't I be overwriting my Rails 2.3.5 executable? I don't want to do that. Instead, I'd like to keep both versions of Rails. Can anyone help? Thanks.

• DDE Server Windows:orcascr9.exe: Application Error

  Hello I've looked at the queries on SO that pertain to similar errors - but haven't found anything so far, to help with this particular problem I am having with an orcascript which I am running under Powerbuilder9.0. The orca script connects to an SCC service provider, does a full target refresh, and then is supposed to build the exe. It never gets to the last step though. The log is not very informative and simply says this at the point of failure: PBORCA_SccRefreshTarget. Full Rebuild Calling cm_rebuild_application(CM_REBUILD_FULL) While the script is at some way into this above step, it exits and throws up the DDE server error. Can someone help me figure this one out? I just barely know the basics of PB, and the intent of this exercise is to convert an IDE-based build that I inherited, into an orcascript build so that i can run the build unmonitored. • Change background colour of individual elements on the fly

  Hi, Is there a way in CSS or JQuery where I can dynamically change the background of li tags so they get slightly lighter for each element until it gets to white. For example say I had a list of 10 li elements. The first would have a red (#ff0000) background, the next one would then be a lighter shade of red, and so on and so on until we got to the last one which would have a background of white (#FFFFFF) The list can be any length and i just want the background colour to go from one colour e.g. red to another colour e.g. white. My site uses JQuery so if I have to use that I don't mind. Thanks

• Google Analytics to track FireFox extension use

  Hi all, I'm developing a Firefox extension and would like to track its use with google analytics, but I can't get it working. I've tried manually calling a funstion from ga.js, but that didn't work for some reason. No error was produced, but neither was any data collected. My last attempt was to have a website that just holds the tracking javascript and then loading it within the extension in an iframe with the URL configured so it contains meaningful data. This way the analytics are getting connected when I visit said webpage with a browser, but not in an extension. I've tried putting some visible javascript ont he site and have confirmed the site's javascript is executing. This method also works with other trackers, but I don't like their output and would prefer Google Analytics. Any ideas what else I could try to accomplish this?

Each result requires three columns based on the type and its row count. The outcome should be one row with many columns.   Hi there, we've had a ASP.NET web application deployed for a number of years now.... last week we migrated to a slightly slower server to save some money. Now we're frequently getting command timeouts: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding This is understandable in that a slower server will take longer to produce results; take longer time and produce a timeout. Is there any system-wide way to get SqlClient to set a longer timeout? We cannot change the code, as it's everywhere... we're using multiple data access technologies as well. Maybe there's a default command timeout setting on a connection string? We just need to increase it by 30 seconds; we're happy to wait a bit longer for queries to return. thanks

• Why does PHP overwrite values when I iterate through this array twice (by reference, by value)

  If I iterate through an array twice, once by reference and then by value, PHP will overwrite the last value in the array if I use the same variable name for each loop. This is best illustrated through an example: $array = range(1,5); foreach($array as &$element) { $element *= 2; } print_r($array); foreach($array as $element) { } print_r($array); Output: Array ( [0] = 2 [1] = 4 [2] = 6 [3] = 8 [4] = 10 ) Array ( [0] = 2 [1] = 4 [2] = 6 [3] = 8 [4] = 8 ) Note that I am not looking for a fix, I am looking to understand why this is happening. Also note that it does not happen if the variable names in each loop are not each called $element, so I'm guessing it has to do with $element still being in scope and a reference after the end of the first loop.

• Get notified/receive explicit intents when an activity starts

  Hi, I am developing an application than gets notified when an activity chosen by a user is started. For this to work, the best approach would be to register a broadcastreceiver for ACTION_MAIN explicit intents, which as far as I know doesn't work (because these intents have specific targets). Another, probably less efficient approach, is to use the system ActivityManager and poll on the getRunningTask() which returns a list of all running tasks at the moment. The polling can be done by a background service. By monitoring the changes in this list, I can see whether an activity is running or not, so that my application can get notified. The downside is ofcourse the polling. I have not tried this yet, but I think that this last approach will probably work. Does anyone know of a better approach(es) or suggestions which are less intensive?

  Hi Stack Overflow users, I've encountered a frustrating problem, can't find the answer to it. Yesterday I was trying to find a way to HIDE a subprocess.Popen. So for example, if i was opening the cmd. I would like it to be hidden, permanently.   I started getting into reading design blogs a little while ago, and it seemed that @font-face got really popular sometime late last year, or something like that, because I was under the impression that it was a new emerging feature of the web. But then I saw that Internet Explorer has had it since IE4 (with some conversion). So is it common to see @font-face online nowadays? Sould I have anything in mind with respect to accessibility, legality, or rendering before I do something like this? I saw that Hulu.com renders fonts with Canvas and a javascript called "cufon."

• How much difference you find between scrollview offset and contentview offset of table?

  Hi all, In my application, I want to detect the end of the entire table with scrollview. Since there're no sections in my scrollview, I'm using noOfRows*rowHeight to reach the end. I'm using scrollview.contentOffset.y to detect the y offset, but this contentOffset isn't matching the multiplication result i.e. I have 20 rows and with height as 250. So it comes as 5000, but my scrollview.offset.y at the end of last cell is nearly about 4650. What's this difference? Thanx in advance.

Why is only every second listener called? The event firing is implemented exactly this way in javax.swing.tree.DefaultTreeModel among others, so it's obviously me who's just not getting something.

• Rails: Accessing previous loop in Populator (rake db:populate)

  I am populating my Rails database using populator, and I have a case where I would like to build a series of records where fields start_date and end_date follow seamlessly from each other (from today back into the past). Here is a sample of what I'm doing: Chain.populate 1 do |ch| ch.date_end = DateTime.now ch.date_start = DateTime.civil(DateTime.now.year-rand(40)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Chain.populate 0..10 do |chs| chs.date_end = Chain.find(:last).date_start chs.date_start = DateTime.civil(chs.date_end.year-rand(10)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Problem? undefined method 'date_start' for nil:NilClass. I assume the problem is the first Chain record hasn't been saved, so I added: Chain.save # in between the two loops This didn't work either. How can I make this work? Thank you!

  What I need is something like Hashtable which I will fill with prices that were actual at desired days. For example: I will put two prices: January 1st: 100USD, March 5th: 89USD. If I search my hashtable for price: hashtable.get(February 14th) I need it to give me back actual price which was entered at Jan. 1st because this is the last actual price. Normal hashtable implementation won't give me back anything, since there is nothing put on that dat. I need to see if there is such implementation which can find quickly object based on range of dates.

• RewriteRule being greedy

  I have been looking for an answer for a few hours now, so sorry if this was asked a ton of times, I missed it. I basically want to make a rewrite to ignore the first directory. That first dir in the path will be different so I thought I could use a regex. But my regex is matching all the way to the file name: RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)?/(.+)$ $2 [L] this works if I am one level deep: http://test.domain.com/one/index.php I get the actual index page of the root. Which is what I want. but if I were to go deeper: http://test.domain.com/one/two/index.php I get a message saying /index.php was not found. So it seems my regex is not stopping after the last [a-z]. I appreciate any help. This is Apache2 if that matters at all.

• iPhone CGContext: drawing two lines with two different colors

  I am having some troubles using the CGContext with an iPhone app. I am trying to draw several lines with different colors, but all the lines always end up having to color, which was used last. I tried several approaches I could think of, but haven't been lucky. I set up a small sample project to deal with that issue. This is my code, I use in the drawRect method. • Why does MySQL autoincrement increase on failed inserts?

  A co-worker just made me aware of a very strange MySQL behavior. Assuming you have a table with an auto_increment field and another field that is set to unique (e.g. a username-field). When trying to insert a row with a username thats already in the table the insert fails, as expected. Yet the auto_increment value is increased as can be seen when you insert a valid new entry after several failed attempts. For example, when our last entry looks like this... ID: 10 Username: myname ...and we try five new entries with the same username value on our next insert we will have created a new row like so: ID: 16 Username: mynewname While this is not a big problem in itself it seems like a very silly attack vector to kill a table by flooding it with failed insert requests, as the MySQL Reference Manual states: "The behavior of the auto-increment mechanism is not defined if [...] the value becomes bigger than the maximum integer that can be stored in the specified integer type." Is this expected behavior?

• Python 2.6 and 3.1.1, earlier version compatibility

  I ordered three books to start teaching myself Python - a beginning programming book, a computer science book that uses Python for all of its code references, and a book on Python network programming. Unfortunately, I was a little too quick on ordering them, because I hadn't noticed the version differences. The beginner book is for python 3.1, the CS book is Python 2.3, and the last is Python 2.6. The CS book is also oriented towards beginners. My question is, will the different versions be too different at this level for me to effectively use all three, or will I likely be able to get by learning from the 3.1 beginners book and then sort of teach myself from the 2.3 CS book, and be able to comprehend 2.6 code? That probably didn't make sense. I hope it did.

• SSRS Multilookup Function for Names with Comma Separation

  I would like to put the following in a a multilookup drop-down in reporting services: "Smith, John", "Jones, Tim", "Kelly, Andy" The comma separating the first and last name prevents the multilookup from working correctly. I am also unable to use ticks (' or ") in reporting service to keep the separating comma from working like a multilookup comma that separates the fields I want to select from. Is there a way to keep the comma in the names while still allowing multilookup? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
