  I have a batch file intended to replace all instances of tracking.js within a folder/sub folders.   I want to delete all folders starting with "A" letter (including subfolder/files). For example There are three folder in D directory (D:\Air, D:\Abonden, D:\All....) • Avoid Windows Explorer to load complete executable file

  On Windows Vista, when browsing to a network folder containing executables, Windows Explorer seems to load all the files completely just to be able to show the executable icon (the resource monitor indicates loads of traffic during the loading of the directory) On XP only a part of the file is loaded. Is there a way to avoid the complete loading of these files? Note that disabling my anti virus does not help.

  I just noticed a few directories in C:\ with long, random hex values. Each of these contains an update directory. When I click on the update directory, I get an access denied message, even though my account has admin privileges (XP Home). Two questions: How can I delete these folders, and how is it possible to restrict a folder this way?

• I accidentally made my new hard drive (the non system drive) my primary partition

  Hi all, When installing a new hard drive, I accidentally formatted it using 'Disk Management' and set it up as my primary active partition, even though it isn't the system drive. Then, when I restarted my machine, Windows wouldn't boot, citing a missing or corrupt SYSTEM folder. Can anyone help me re-enable the system hard drive as my primary active partition? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

But when archiving a folder containing already compressed files, there is no need to compress them a second time, such as archives, packed setup program, jpg, movies, mp3,.... I check "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" Apply. I get a Windows Security dialog that says, "Setting security information on" the list of objects that flashes by. But now the "Replace all child object permissions" box is unchecked.   I Installed wamp in windows 7 pro, and copied a joomla live site. Everything seems working well except that it doesn't load the images on the page. Even when I try to access in directly: localhost/logo.png Im getting an 403 Forbidden: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /logo.png on this server.   Every now and then I need to delete a folder containing something like 500k files from an NTFS volume. I do this with Windows Explorer. Since NTFS journals all the service data changes each deletion is carried out serially and so the whole 500k files deletion takes ages. I remember when I did the same in FAT32 it ran uncomparably faster. Is there any way to speed up deletion of large number of files on NTFS volumes?

What does this option actually do, and how do I use it to search every file name on the drive for a specified character string?   Yesterday I installed an SSD in my MacBook and kept my original HDD with a "data doubler" (replaces the DVD-drive with a hard-drive bay). That means I have my OS (and applications) on both my SSD and HDD. Is it possible to get rid of the OS on the HDD? I think that removing everything but the ~/users-folder from the HDD should solve this problem, right? If not, what is the best solution to achieve this?

• Windows 8 disk errors

  So yesterday, I forcibly restarted my Windows 8 PC. VMWare Workstation was having some trouble with the guest Linux Mint OS. It wasn't responding for some time, so I tried suspending it September 28th or perhaps even before. It wouldn't suspend -- I forgot what the window looked like, but all options in the power menu were disabled (i.e. "Shutdown," "Power Off," and options like that were all disabled). I eventually killed the VMWare application through Task Manager, though I was too lazy to hunt down the running virtual machine itself, and decided to kill it by just shutting down my PC entirely. The PC wouldn't shut down for quite some time after the monitor went blank, so I did a cold reset by holding the power button. I then powered it on again and Windows briefly gave me some message like "Search for KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR." Windows then started diagnosing some problems and gave me the message, "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." That was yesterday night, and I went to sleep without waiting for it to finish. This morning, it said that the repair failed, and that the log was at C:\windows\system32\LogFiles\srt\srtTrail.txt (as I remember it -- I don't have the exact path I wrote down right now). It gave me some other options to troubleshoot, such as resetting Windows (files and settings still intact, but programs not installed through the app store will be erased). That didn't work (no error message given, I was just told it didn't work). I tried rebooting in safe mode, the same diagnosis process begins, except that this time it doesn't bother with the automatic repairs again. So I tried using the command prompt to try to see if my files are at least still there. I was on the X drive, and I couldn't cd to the C drive. I couldn't find my folder under Users (of course?), and couldn't find the srt folder under LogFiles either. I am not sure what to try next. I have backed up everything, but to the cloud, so if absolutely necessary I can start off with a fresh copy of Windows and restore all my data, though it would be a hassle. Any thoughts on what might be wrong or what I can try? My computer was purchased just this June, so the hard drive should still be pretty new.
