  • vb.net system beep sound on XP

    Is it possible to have a vb.net program sound the PC's internal speaker? you know the one that produces C's \a BELL I have tried beep(), but this only produces the error sound on the sound card.     Hi there I expose my problem, but first I ask you one example otherwise you will understand why, In VB6 when surfing the site and google example I set the textbox the value "Test" and then click on commandbotton I just enter the source webbrowser1.document.all ("g"). value = "Test" WebBrowser1.document.all ("btnG").     At the last PDC (can't remember which talk it was) they gave us the information that it will be possible to share assemblies between regular .Net 4 and Silverlight 4. Unfortunately I can't find anything on this. Was this feature dropped? What options/limitations are there? (There are similar questions on SO but they don't say if they apply to SL3 or 4.)

    .NET provides a great library for working with SMTP for sending messages, however, there is not an implementation of a Pop3 client, or IMAP client for working with receiving e-mail from a mail host. Does anyone know of a good component that can provide Pop, IMAP, or both support? I know that code project has implementations, but from my experience finding a "good" one is hard.

  • Do .NET Timers Run Asynchronously?

    I have a messaging aspect of my application using Jabber-net (an XMPP library.) What I would like to do, if for some reason the connection to the Server is ended, is keep trying to connect every minute or so. If I start a Timer to wait for a period of time before the next attempt, does that timer run asynchronously and the resulting Tick event join the main thread, or would I need to start my own thread and start the timer from within there?

    I want to do something like this ffmpeg -i audio.mp3 -f flac - | oggenc2.exe - -o audio.ogg i know how to do ffmpeg -i audio.mp3 -f flac using the process class in .NET but how do i pipe it to oggenc2? Any example of how to do this (it doesnt need to be ffmpeg or oggenc2) would be fine.

    I have a .net 4 application that uses a Com Dll to send SMS messages. I used TlbImp to create the interop assembly and that is what is referenced in the application. When I try to create an instance of this class, it takes a really long time (2-5 seconds). I ran performance profile in VS 2010 and the call that takes the longest by far is System.Activator.CreateInstance(). I am looking for tips on how to debug or gotchas with using Com Interop.

    As per the question title, How could I take a hex code and convert it to a .Net Color object, and do it the other way? I googled and keep getting the same way which doesn't work. ColorTranslator.ToHtml(renderedChart.ForeColor) Which returns the name of the color as in 'White' instead of '#ffffff'! Doing it the other way seems to have odd results, only working some of the time...

I find it annoying that I have to add using System.Diagnostics to the source code in order to type Debug.WriteLine.... I checked under project properties, but I cannot find the References tab that allows me to add namespaces to Imported Namespaces. Where do I find this in C#? Also, why can't I do this in C#?     Similar to Ubiquitous way to get the root directory an application is running in via C#, but that question seems to be related to Win Forms. How would the same be done for Web Forms? I was using... HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~") This works great for handling HTTP requests but seems not to work if a scheduler like Quartz.NET invokes a job (the problem I am having). The HttpContext.Current is null in that scenario since an actual HTTP request is not made.
