• Subversion: What to do with branches, tags and trunk folders?

  A little background first: I'm a designer/developer and decided to use subversion for a personal project. I'm the only one working on this project. I've setup a Beanstalk account and installed Versions on Mac. Locally I have MySQL and PHP running through MAMP. First thing I did in Versions is click the 'checkout' button. I selected my webroot folder and a folder has been created with three subfolders: branches, tags, trunk. I don't understand what to do with this. My code lives in the webroot and a bunch of subfolders and I can't move my code to any of the three folders without breaking things. So, my question is, how do I tell Versions that my code is in the webroot folder and not in the folder it created itself?

• Setting up Netbeans/Eclipse for Linux Kernel Development

  Hi: I'm doing some Linux kernel development, and I'm trying to use Netbeans. Despite declared support for Make-based C projects, I cannot create a fully functional Netbeans project. This is despite compiling having Netbeans analyze a kernel binary that was compiled with full debugging information. Problems include: files are wrongly excluded: Some files are incorrectly greyed out in the project, which means Netbeans does not believe they should be included in the project, when in fact they are compiled into the kernel. The main problem is that Netbeans will miss any definitions that exist in these files, such as data structures and functions, but also miss macro definitions. cannot find definitions: Pretty self-explanatory - often times, Netbeans cannot find the definition of something. This is partly a result of the above problem. can't find header files: self-explanatory I'm wondering if anyone has had success with setting up Netbeans for Linux kernel development, and if so, what settings they used. Ultimately, I'm looking for Netbeans to be able to either parse the Makefile (preferred) or extract the debug information from the binary (less desirable, since this can significantly slow down compilation), and automatically determine which files are actually compiled and which macros are actually defined. Then, based on this, I would like to be able to find the definitions of any data structure, variable, function, etc. and have complete auto-completion. Let me preface this question with some points: I'm not interested in solutions involving Vim/Emacs. I know some people like them, but I'm not one of them.   I am creating a standalone (no DLLs) windows C/C++ program that uses HTTP POST to periodically send data to an HTTP server. I identified libCURL as the HTTP client library as it seems simple and reliable. I still need to identify the environment (an IDE) which I can use to develop my project. My program has: poller- which checks the status of the connection a file writer when polled link is down a component which POSTs the file when link is up What is the appropriate IDE for this project? I heard endorsements for DevC++ and Visual C. I am a newb to coding and this site. Pardon me if I am unclear in anything.

• 'Step Into' is suddenly not working in Visual Studio

  All of a sudden, I have run into an issue where I cannot step into any code through debugging in Visual Studio. The step over works fine, but it refuses to step into (F11) any of my code. This was working before, now all of a sudden it does not. I've tried some things below, but I still had no success: Delete all bin files in every project in my solution, clean solution, re-build solution. Build projects in solution indivdualy Restart machine It an ASP.NET C# application consuming a WCF sevice locally. It is in debug mode. I have a breakpoint set on the page consuming the service. The breakpoint hits, but it will not step into the service code. The ASP.NET site and the service code is all in the same solution. This all of a sudden does not work, it did work before. How can I fix this problem? Adding a breakpoint to the service project I get a warning: Breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document. I deleted all the bin folders for all the projects and re-built them one by one. They all succeeded, but still I am getting the symbols won't load on any breakpoint I put into any project in the solution other than the ASP.NET project where the breakpoint works. I was able to debug step into all the projects before, this is an all of a sudden thing. Information from the output window.. • Application built using VS2010 does not work in VS-Express2008 - C

  Hello, I have wrote an application that consists of two projects in a solution, each project contains only 1 .c source file. I was using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate but due to the University only supporting 2008 I decided to create a blank solution and copy the source files into the new one. After creating a new solution in VS2008 express, creating two projects and re-creating and adding the source files to the projects I ran the application. For some reason only one part of the application does not work, I use CreateProcess() to execute "Project1.exe" from Project 2. This works fine under vs2010 but for some reason it's not working under VS2008 express, GetLastError() is showing an Error 2: File Not Found. This is an image showing the same code in both IDE's: I'm not using anything special and I've made sure that both solutions/projects are using .Net 3.5. I can't work out why it would work for one IDE and not the other. Any suggestions? Thanks!

• GWT tries to load a deleted module

  I am using Eclispe with Google plugin for AppEngine and GWT. Recently I created a test GWT module, but eventually it has been deleted from the project and I can not find any sign of it in the project now. However, whenever I run the web app locally, I get in console the following message: Loading modules com.piq.exemity.Test [ERROR] Unable to find 'com/XXXXXX/Test.gwt.xml' on your classpath; could be a typo, or maybe you forgot to include a classpath entry for source? Has anyone got any idea where it can be hiding?

• LINQ-to-SQL vs stored procedures?

  I took a look at the "Beginner's Guide to LINQ" post here on StackOverflow (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8050/beginners-guide-to-linq), but had a follow-up question: We're about to ramp up a new project where nearly all of our database op's will be fairly simple data retrievals (there's another segment of the project which already writes the data). Most of our other projects up to this point make use of stored procedures for such things. However, I'd like to leverage LINQ-to-SQL if it makes more sense. So, the question is this: For simple data retrievals, which approach is better, LINQ-to-SQL or stored procs? Any specific pro's or con's? Thanks.

  I have been developing a project and in this project i have designed my code to do the same job after a specified time interval continuously. The job that wanted to be done has a lot of distinct cycles. The interval is small to execute them normally thus i used threads. Until that point everything is clear for me. To decrease the process and information transaction i wanted to put an session like object that holds the given data and provide it to any thread at anytime. With this object i plan to not query the same configuration information from database at everytime but if it exists on the session take it else query and store on session. • MS Dev Studio 2005 Ignores Preprocessor directives during compile

  We just got a new developer and I'm trying to set him up with Dev Studio 2005 (The version we all use at this office), and we're running into a weird problem that I've never seen before. I have some code that works perfectly on my system, and he can't seem to get it compiled. We've tracked the issue down to his copy of dev studio ignoring the preprocessor directives. For example, in the project properties under C/C++|Preprocessor|Preprocessor Directives, I add DEFINE_ME. Which should translate to a /D"DEFINE_ME" for the compiler. And it does in my development environment, but it doesn't on his. I verified that when he checks out the code from the source repository, that he has the same version of the code I do. And if I look in his Project Properties, all of the directives are there. For some reason they're just not getting passed down to the compiler. Any Ideas?

  Hi, I have the following scenario: a table of projects and a table of persons, working on one or serveral projects. Also, I have a project id column (of type int), in the first table, which is a primary key there and I have a vector of project ids, as a column of type int, in my second table (persons), that references primary keys from the first table. What is the correct syntax for referencing multiple primary keys, from a vector foreign key. This is the way I am trying to create the table, but I am not sure what to place at the indicated line: CREATE TABLE Persons( Person_Id int, ..., ProjectsList int[], FOREIGN KEY (ProjectsList) REFERENCES Projects(Project_id) -- not sure what how to define the link here ); I hope my explanations are not over-complicated. • "_FILE_AND_LINE_ is not defined in this scope" (compiling RakNet NAT examples in OS X)

  Hello! I'm working on a RakNet-based project (using 3.8 on OS X 10.6), and I'm trying to work through the various examples that demonstrate the parts of RakNet I want to use. For the "NatCompleteClient" example, I've imported the source into a command-line project in XCode, along with the UPNP dependency. At compile time I've had a few errors in the UPNP section, though, and I can't find any guidance on this. In UPNPPortForwarder.mm, there are 7 lines that use _FILE_AND_LINE_, and the compiler is not happy; for example on line 232: foundInterfaces.Deallocate(r1,_FILE_AND_LINE_); causes: UPNPPortForwarder.mm:232: error: '_FILE_AND_LINE_' was not declared in this scope Can anyone tell me what this is all about? That variable doesn't seem to get talked about very often... or Google doesn't like to find it.

• Maven and db4o dependency

  I'm intrigued to test new frameworks in the Java world, and decided to create a new project that takes advantage of Maven and db4o. I'm starting to get a hang of Maven, but I have a hard time adding db4o as a dependency to the project. First problem is that db4o doesn't exist in the official Maven repositories. Next up comes the problem that db4o seem to have recently restructured their whole site's URI:s, so I'm getting 'site not found' messages all the time when I try to navigate their site. I found somewhere a potential Maven repository that should be at https://source.db4o.com/maven but I get all the time "Error reading archetype catalog https://source.db4o.com/maven Unable to locate resource in repository" when I try to access it. So, any suggestions on how I'll get db4o up through Maven? I've managing Maven through Eclipse with the M2Eclipse plugin.

  I've recently convinced my management that our outdated version of Rails is slowing us down enough to warrant an upgrade. The approach we're taking is to start a fresh project with current technology rather than a painful upgrade. Our requirements for the project have changed and this will be much easier. The biggest problem is actually that my knowledge of Rails is out of date. I've dealt only with Rails 1.2.4 while the rest of the world has moved on long ago. What topics have I missed by being buried in my work instead of keeping up with the current Rails fashion? I'm hesitant to dig through blogs at random because I'm not sure how much has changed between the intervening versions of Rails. It's no use to learn Rails 2.1-2.3 specific stuff that is no longer useful for Rails 3.

• Build path error in eclipse for android

  Hi, whenever I do a Clean on my project, I get 2 errors: 1.) the project is missing gen folder. 2.) there is a build path error. I go to "Configure build path" and uncheck "Android 1.6". It works. If I do thsi again , i go and this time check "Android 1.6". It again works. Can anyone please tell me why this is happening. Thanks

• Combining Session and Cache

  To make my extranet web application even faster/more scalable I think of using some of the caching mechanisms. For some of the pages we'll use HTML caching, please ignore that technique for this question. E.g.: at some point in time 2500 managers will simultaneously login on our application (most of them with the same Account/Project) I think of storing an Account-cachekey and Project-cachekey into the user's Session and use that to get the item from the Cache. I could have simply stored the Account into the session, but that would result in 2500 of the same Accounts in memory. Is there a better solution to this or does it make sense :)?

  I have Maven multi-module project with such structure: parent-pom-project -- module1 -- module2 At the parent-pom-project I have such pom.xml <modules> <module>module1</module> </modules> ... <profiles> <profile> <id>local</id> <properties> <prop>local_prop</prop> </properties> </profile> <profile> <id>test</id> <modules> <module>module2</module> </modules> <properties> <prop>test_prop</prop> </properties> </profile> </profiles> At all pom.xml files I have such tag: <build> <resources> <resource> <directory>src/main/resources</directory> <filtering>true</filtering> </resource> <resource> <directory>src/test/resources</directory> <filtering>true</filtering> </resource> </resources> </build> At module1 and module2 in resource directory I have properties files with such text: prop=${prop} The problem is that after mvn clean install or mvn clean install -Ptest or even mvn clean install -P test I get prop=local_prop If I user test profile for build module2 is also builded, but properties are used from local profile. I use Maven 3.0.3. Anybody have any ideas?

• Referenced Assembly won't load

  I've got a visual studio 2010 project which publishes an assembly called myAssembly.ddl. I then want to reference myAssembly.dll from an existing vs 2008 project. If I try to load the reference it comes up with an yellow exclamation mark next to it, suggesting that the assembly wasn't loaded. However, I'm not getting any error messages during that process. Obviously, if i try to import the namespace in my code it doesn't compile. Converting myAssembly.dll to a .net version 3.5 doesn help. Nor does copying the assembly to a different directory and referencing it from there. Any ideas?

• Considering modified files for rebuild

  I have a C++ project, I am using Bakefile for build process, Makefiles are generated for msvc, mingw, gnu etc for cross-platform support. Now the problem is that if I change any .h files (which are included in other .cpp files) and performing a rebuild does not recompile modified files. But changing any .cpp file gets recompiled. Based on modified time-stamp of any file which is included in the project I expect to consider that file for rebuild. Am I missing something which required to be added as a tag in .bkl files? Please help.

• Visual Studio creating bin/ folder in wrong location.

  In Visual Studio 2008, I have a solution with a number of projects. Each project has the same build output path of "..\bin\Debug\" for debug, and "..\bin\Release\" for release. So the directory structure looks like this: solution\ bin\ project1\ project2\ project3\ This all works fine, all the assemblies go to the correct location when I build the project, etc. Howevever, when I first open the solution in Visual Studio, an empty bin folder is created one level up from where it should. So I am getting: bin\ solution\ bin\ project1\ project2\ project3\ This folder is only created when I first open the solution. Never when I build. I have looked through the .sln and every .csproj file, and I cannot work out why this folder is being created. So, my questions are: a) Why is this bin folder being created? b) How do I stop Visual Studio from creating this bin folder?

• NHibernate very slow during debugging

  Have anyone stumbled upon a problem where NHibernate is extremely slow in Visual Studio while debugging, but behaves normally when run separately? Logging is disabled and the time lost seems to be when the actual queries are executed, NHProfiler shows that queries were executed very quickly (on SQL side I presume), but each session with 10 queries takes about 4 seconds. I am using SQL Express Server. As I said, even if I turn on full logging and run my application without Visual Studio it is a magnitude faster. Update. After hours and hours of work towards the issue I was able to fix it by simply switching project type from Windows Application to Console Application (although in reality it's a Windows Service, but it always worked before with Windows Application project type). What could possibly be the difference to bring NHibernate to a halt in debugging mode?
